Random Model S sightings part 9

Saw another S while driving around

I am one of very few model S owners in the Sacramento area, and was driving across the causeway a couple of days ago. What a nice surprise to see another owner drive up next to me!! We are a small group of people these days and I feel that we are automatically comrades on the road. We drove back and forth for a few miles and enjoyed watching each other's cars until it came time for the other owner to get off the freeway. From the map on this forum, it seems there are just a few of us in the valley. Nice seeing you on the road whomever you are in the white Model S from downtown Sac area...

Greetings to whoever was driving the blue (I think) Model S this evening on Ralston Avenue in Belmont, near Lunardi's Market. I was the guy you waved to, in the white Model S. :)

dadaleus: how long did it take until you got your HOV stickers?

    - - - Updated - - -

Pulled into the Westin St. Francis in SF Sat afternoon. Valet comes up: "cool...this is our second one today...we park these where people can see them." And points at the other blue one in front of me. Of course they don't have any charging capability yet. However, at $51 per nite for parking that's more than my monthly "eFuel" bill now.

Hilarious because Tesla is not even listed as a manufacturer.

I am seeing one almost every day now in the La Jolla/Del Mar/RSF region of North San Diego. Pretty soon this thread will become obsolete!---that will be a good thing. BLINK lists 300 L1/L2 chargers in the area--more than the LA Basin.

Saw a record number of Model S today (and was nowhere near work, the factory, or Palo Alto).
Driving north on 101 from Gilroy (Costco run), saw one at the supercharger, then immediately saw a car carrier with 8 on it (only two were covered). About 5 miles north of this, saw another car carrier with 10 on it (only two were covered again).
Sorry, no pics, but it did happen (I was driving in a much too spirited manner to take pics!)

I have yet to see a single Model S on the road out in the western suburbs of Chicago... :(

Just saw a black one coming up Third Ave at 44th. I tried to get a pic, but managed to only drop my phone... but not my coffee!

While car pooling in the HOV lane with another EV driver s/b on 280 towards CA 85 into the West Valley last Thursday afternoon between 3:30 and 4, I spotted a white MS ahead of me ... just after I got on at Page Mill Rd. Within minutes at the turn off to Giloy in Cupertiono we passed another one, a grey driven by a woman (with a pony tail...) and finally just before turning off in Saratoga passed another Red Signature. All were occupied by only the driver (no stickers yet), and in all cases (being a loud NY-raised driver) I honked obnoxiously in passing while we waving furiously! The drivers turned their heads, wondering!
For a 25 minute ride - I felt three sitings was impressive! They are becoming more frequent in the Silicon Valley, but still not common place. Go Tesla!
And so much for sharing our exuberance!

    Finally.

Not truly random, but it was random that I saw it because on a whim I took a different route to work. Still, it's a sighting. Seems to be handling the Chicago salt just fine...

Got a text from a friend in Reno last night. She saw a white Model S. She was going to take a picture, but her precocious six-year-old told her it was rude to take a picture without the person knowing it. While trying to explain to her that it was... you know... for science, traffic started moving again and the car turned.

Saw a white MS on the 87N to 101 ramp in this mornings commute. You were in the carpool lane. I had two immediate thoughts when I saw you:

    1. Lucky you to use the carpool lane while I'm stuck on this awful connector ramp.
    2. Two months from now I'll be the lucky guy in that carpool lane!

I do have to say that for living in Silicon Valley, I don't see as many MSes as you would think. I see a couple around the fruit company in Cupertino near my client's office, and some on the 85 corridor around Sunnyvale/Mountain View/Los Altos, but not too many in the south bay area around San Jose. Maybe I haven't been travelling far enough north to the land of Google and Facebook.

This was my first (and so far only) random Model S sighting in the wild - a Signature Red driving by the Cambridgeside Galleria mall at noon on January 3. I guess there still aren't many in the Boston area, but I will be adding to the tally in a month or two.

My wife txt me saying she saw a silver S driving in the parking lot near Taco Cabana on Wyoming & Momtgomery, but didn't have time to snap a picture. She had never seen one in person before.

tasolomon, terry pierce, someone else on this forum, was this you?

My wife said the silver was really pretty in the sun. Glad we're getting silver too!

I saw the same black Model S twice today. The first sighting was on my way to work at the four-way stop sign at the intersection of Mays Chapel Road and Jennifer Road. I was headed north east on Mays Chapel, the Model S south east on Jennifer.

The second sighting was on my way home, again on Mays Chapel. It was about 5 cars ahead of me on Falls Road. It turned right on Seminary and in a flash kept ahead about 200 yards, then turned left up Mays Chapel. I pursued but with a number of slower cars between us it was futile. It then turned right on Timonium Road. I was tempted to follow but thought that might be annoying to the driver. But it appears I now have one in my neighborhood.

What are the odds that I'd see the same care twice in the same day? Very long.

Kudos to the MD driver of a black Model S parked on the street in DC last night (too dark for pics) presumably in the Foggy Bottom area for the fun. concert at Constitution Hall. I had the temerity to park my 4 hour new S in a garage to attend the show.

Admittedly Silicon Valley sightings are kind of "cheating" but WTH... Here I spotted a friendly fellow on my way to work on I-280 northbound. Friendly wave when passing. Greetings, whoever you are...

(Should we have a separate thread for "Model S sightings from Model S"?)

So the same friend who texted me from Reno yesterday texted me again this morning. She said she had to make up for not taking a picture of the one Tesla by sending me a picture of several Teslas. All the cars were white and silver, but two of the cars were covered. She asked if one of them might be mine, but I told her I hoped not since I'm supposed to be taking delivery on Tuesday morning. It's a long way from Reno to Chicago!!

If you really want to see some random Model S sightings, get the Instagram App and search the hashtag: #Tesla ... There are quite a few photos of Model S (and Roadsters) that people have uploaded, and I definitely recognize some of the license plates from photos posted on here. FYI: if you search hashtag: #ModelS you will not find many photos of the Tesla Model S, but you will find tons for photos of male and female models. So, ya know, use your best judgement on that ;)

    - - - Updated - - -

One of the photos you would see is this one that I posted yesterday:

Spotted one of the Founders' cars on 280 as it ends and dumps onto King St./Embarcadero on my commute into San Francisco yesterday morning. I'm pretty sure it was a Founders car because it had the same plates as the first 10 Founders' cars: 6USX025. So I'm guessing it's Founders #25?
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
Not all of the founders' cars went to California, and I believe I've seen a plate like that on a demonstrator. Ours is Sig 29, and the plate is 066, so you're probably right that it's a founder, but I wouldn't bet on its VIN being #25.

had my first true "in the wild" sighting this morning (and from my S even!).

In fairfax, on the fairfax county parkway headed south (I was stopped at a red light at franklin farm specifically), saw a leaf cross in front of me going eastbound, thought to myself, "hey, nice to see other electrics around now and again", and then immediately after that, saw a dark colored model S going westbound. Phone was in my pocket, so didn't snag a picture :)
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
That could have been me! I cross the parkway on Franklin Farm road heading west on my way to work. This morning it would have been about 8:50am, give or take a few minutes.

On Monday, Richard M was driving behind me in his model S on Franklin Farm Road, and we both pulled off to have a short chat! That was my first sighting.

I have just finished day 7 in the car. It's still awesome! :)

My first time charging outside of home (besides the garage where my car spent the first two days/nights getting paint armor installed).
My car turns 1 month tomorrow. This is at the 99 Restaurant in Marlboro, MA (note: the Hudson, MA location does not have a charger!).
Note to self: Bring wallet (where chargepoint card is) and keep second chargepoint card in car. I had to make 2 phone calls, one to release the nozzle and one to enable
charging. Charging was free here. The other car also had an EV plate in the 1000's - but no front plate! Never saw the driver (does (s)he work at an office nearby?)

Saw a dark-colored (sun had set so hard to tell) Model S coming down the hill on Ralston Ave at 5:00 this evening - I was in my Roadster and waved. Then right after that saw a Fisker coming down. Lots of EVs in the Belmont hills it seems.

It's as if Model S's just suddenly descended from the sky. After seeing maybe two others randomly over the last 4 months, we've seen four randomly in the last 2 days here in the San Diego area. Tonight I saw a white in Camp Pendleton. Yesterday I saw a silver one in my neighborhood. And my wife saw a black one outside our daughter's school and a sig red one at a local restaurant yesterday. This is awesome!

It's like not exactly sporting here, is it? The other day I followed a Roadster on my way to work, parked beside another Model S when I got there, had a third one pull up next to me to chat, and walked by two more in the parking lot I just about gave up posting to this thread. I know of two more on order on my floor. It's an epidemic of delightful proportions!

While I've had my S since early November, I have yet to see one truly 'in the wild'. Closest I've come was this morning; got a hint on where the upcoming Raleigh service center will be, and since it is only a few miles from home, swung by after dropping son off at school. There were two S out back, apparently being prepped for delivery. The colors are very subtle on an overcast day, but still sharp looking cars!

With the service center location being between my exit off the freeway and the next, hopefully I'll be seeing one truly 'in the wild' soon!

Bleeds On stopped by to show off his new ride.
I think he may have sold one to my boss.

Funny! I drive from SJ to San Antonio rd in PA. I love the black car....and the light greay, and the dark grey, and the white.....

Do you have the commute stickers? Someone told me I defaced my car putting them on....

I do have a single commute sticker, but have it applied in a way that ensures no damage. (paint armor scrap cut to fit). Commuting in car pool lane is worth it.

    My work parking lot today...

Mine is the dirty blue 85kWh 19" wheels
JP's is the clean black 60kWh 21" wheels

Man those 21" wheels are SICK looking!
JP got his car 2+ weeks ago but usually drives his winter "beater".

Yesterday, I ran an errand on the way home. I saw a Signature Red car and spoke with the driver at a light. Then I passed a black Model S and a dark blue Roadster at almost the same time.

No photos of those, but perhaps today makes up for it. This was fun. Parked, ran into the grocery store, and upon my return, my car had attracted a friend!

LOL. I like how the clip with the Model S was "not like the others" as Sesame Street would say.

Decided to go to the Stone Brewery Gardens in Escondido (Northern San Diego) for dinner, where they have two free GE charging stations. Pull up to find a silver performance, VIN 2974.

The owner must have been enjoying the food and beer, they were still there when we left, and the EVSE was showing about 3 hours of charging... Unfortunately the plug I was left with wouldn't charge my P85 :-(

Saw my first "in the wild" on Saturday morning just south of Portland on I5. Saw a silver one with 21" chrome rims in my rear view mirror (driver was female and passenger was male). We waved at each other and off they went.

My first Model S in a natural setting spotted yesterday at Ala Moana Mall parking lot. That's my Leaf behind it. Though the S might look blue it is in fact a black, extremely elegant, spotlessly clean. The lady driving it gave me permission to take pictures, said she had it since November and loved it. Truly beautiful car. Feb 16, 2013 Ala Moana Mall.JPG

    I'm tired...

Saw your license plate placement and was about to ask if it interferes with temperature control... until I noticed a tiny bit of snow in the picture...

Sad to say I saw an empty black (I think) Model S sitting on the shoulder of the ICC in Montgomery County MD on Sunday. Breakdown? Range miscalculation?

I really don't understand why Tesla is shipping these cars without protecting them with at least a cover over the front bumper and windshield. The car that is in front above the CAB is likely to have lots of chip marks. I hope they're not shipping cars cross country this way. Sadly, I think they are.

Stones do not fly that high on the highway...

Bugs? Yes, but I have not known a bug splatter to be permanent.

They come off fairly clean in all honesty...

Would an enclosed truck be nice? Sure, but that comes in time...

I like how the sunroof is open in the freezing winter. I'm sure that's great for keeping the interior warm without blasting heat (and wasting energy) to keep yourself from frostbite. :p

I have been known to crack the sunroof open in very cold weather, to prevent the inside of the windows from frosting over. Humid warm air against cold windows is a bad combination. I usually do this in the garage though.

It's nice to see that not only the battery got replenishment, but also the Saint Bernard.

Just saw my first Austin Texas area in-the-wild Model S... a beautiful white one going the opposite direction on Southwest Parkway. Turned out it was someone on the Austin-SanAntonio boards who saw my Silver 60 for the first time in-the-wild as well.

Sorry no picture, but it was nice to see another S (other than obvious Cars-N-Coffee or other get togethers).

Yeah, someone on another thread took delivery in Rockville and needed to have his windshield replaced and front hood repainted. Compliments of Tesla -- but that sucks to have to deal w/ that on a new car!!
