Random Model S sightings part 18

Sam, you have to hold the world record for sightings in different parts of the country, not only in your own backyard.

    Heh! I aim to please!

Yes indeed, haha! I get to see them in a varied natural habitat!!! Here is a bonus pic from right now! A blue S85 parked at 4th and Colorado in Austin!

I saw a Volt (or Opel Ampera, as it's called here) this Friday, the first I have ever seen. It was in the left lane in very slow-moving traffic, I was in the right lane in my red Model S 85. In front of me was a grey P85, behind me was a white Model S. No, I don't know if that was a 60, 85, P85 or P85+. I didn't see the rear end of it. ;)

VFX is the handle of a long-time TMC member who had his Roadster painted this stunning copper color. I considered trying to "license" the formula from him. ;-)

No pics unfortunately, but I got passed by a Tesla Service Truck on the Mass Pike this Christmas morning in the Worcester area and we waved to each other. My first sighting of one of those out in the wild.
I caught up with them again later and roared past them and we all waved again :) None of this "Tesla nod" here in New England ;-)

I've always admired the color. Except I've been calling it "burnt orange." What does VFX call it?
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
I've heard it called "copper" in his presence, but now I can't remember who it was who called it that. It might not have been either of the owners.

Just south of the Pentagon, a MI registered Model S.

Assuming it's not a local who just registers the car out of state, my hat's off to the driver--running from Michigan to Virginia in December before the Superchargers are built out sounds like quite a trip.

Saw this beautiful, though dirty, Sig red in Excelsior, MN last night. Oddly, it still had its 21s on. Most of the cars in MN have had 19s put on with winter tires. IMAG0244_BURST002.jpg

Pretty little red S85 at a 24 Hour Fitness in Little Elm, Texas. Nice.
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
The 24 Hour Fitness here is door ding central. My last vehicle got about 9 dents from that place. These days I always park at the extreme end of the row where only one car can park next to me and hopefully with nobody next to me on either side.
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
And if you park on the right-hand side of a row (i.e., no parking to your right), then you only can get dinged by the passenger-side door. Since most people drive around solo, you improve your odds further. Further, if you back into the spot (highly recommended) you'll be opening your door into an empty area and not risk dinging the car next to you.
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
Good advice. I'll have to see what I can find next time I'm at the gym (probably today). :)

I also try to look for the "staggered" parking places where their doors do not line up with my car.
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
My wife and I refer to those spots as a "fiddy-fiddy" - you only have a fifty/fifty chance of a door ding.
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
So when I park way out where there's no one around, that's a "naughty-naughty" then?

Found a nice one at the Gym, right on the far right end with nobody next to me today. I had to laugh when I came out there was some woman pulling up nose to nose and trying to get as close to my bumper as possible. I jogged over and told her "that's perfect" and she stopped. She was about two inches away from my bumper. When I left, she got back in her car and took the spot I'd been parked in. Weird day for parking

Nope. Wasn't me. Talk about a dangerous parking lot - that one is high on the list.

In regard to the burnt orange color Tesla, I was told by someone who knows someone (I know, it sounds crazy but let's just say that my source was recently 3 supervisors above me and they know some of Tesla folks) who said that the burnt orange color and other ones were going to be coming out. He straight up said, "have you seen the new colors yet?"

I started to search these forums for more information. I say this not bc I want to start some rumors but it IS something I heard from someone I trust.

While on our way to the Big Island (Hawaii) we had a layover in LA for 6 hours and spotted 6 Model S's on the way to Santa Monica where we spent most of the layover.

On the way back we only saw one but it was something like this color, a custom blue or a new color. As soon as we landed in Hawaii we saw another Model S on our way to the hotel (one of only 2 on the island apparently). Never saw another Model S until I got home...

I live in the St. Louis and there are just enough MS to spot some every now and again. Saw a black one today in my dad's neighborhood.

I would think there would be more since there is a service center here and we have a owner specialist based out of here but they are coming up.

Our daughter moved into a condo in Broomfield, CO today. When she parked in the garage she texted us that her parking spot was right across from a Model S:

Why are there so few Model Ss in the Mainline of Philadelphia??? We have a Tesla store at the King of Prussia Mall, and a service center in Norristown, soon to be in Devon. I've seen maybe three in the past few months. I haven't seen one in center city Philadelphia at all (though @SamGarber has seen some).

I live in Wynnewood and am ALWAYS looking for them. I saw one last week driving two cars ahead in the next lane on Montgomery Avenue past Lower Merion HS and I yelled at my kids in the back seat, "There's one, look!!!" I tried to get next to it to see the driver but to no avail (probably because I'm in a Prius). I've seen two black Model Ss (maybe the same car, didn't see plate), and my friend has seen one white and one red in this area. That's it. Can't wait for my brown...

So I've been away from home for two weeks and my rental drives like garbage. When I saw those unmistakable headlights coming up behind me while eastbound on 60 in Mesa, you could say I got a little excited. Keep in mind that it's a Tesla wasteland where I live so I basically never get to see other owners. I'm the only one around for at least 150 miles. Anyhow, my reaction was to whip out my phone, open the Tesla app and plaster it to the window(displaying my "Home" page) while waving to the owner of this gorgeous black Tesla on 21's. A little afterthought made me realize 1. He probably couldn't see the screen and thought I was taking a pic, 2. I probably looked like a psycho stalker, and 3. It was probably a bad idea doing this at 70mph. Haha. My apologies. Love seeing this car in the wild.

Met today with Rafael de Mestre here in Tallinn during one of his road trips. We had about 10 people around a table asking questions about electric cars, driving really long distances and his experiences with electrics after 130 000km. It was fun to hear that he's never been left at the side of the road and he doesn't really plan his trips, but just drives and when the time is approaching to charge he looks for a location and keeps the chill. There are almost always 3x16A or 3x32A CEE plugs around and it's super easy to just ask for them and in most cases people don't mind (you have to have your own cable though). In any case it was a fun couple of hours to chat and he's here in TMC as well under the username TRON :)

Finally, after nearly a year I ended up side by side with another TMC member who works right around the corner from my neighborhood... On our way to dinner I caught those beautiful headlights in my sideview mirror and that multicoat red paint and knew right away it was xhawk101. We managed to have a quick chat at a light. It was fun seeing another MS on the road at night, I'm always in mine so finally got to enjoy just how beautiful all those lights are!

I was at Starbucks the other day and there were FOUR of us there. We had our own little Starbucks Tesla club. :)
I didn't take a picture because it's all too common where I live (this is a good thing). If I posted a pic every time I spotted a Tesla, I'd never get any work done. I see 3 or 4 of them every time I go out.

I was only about 10' away before I realized it wasn't mine. I remembered that I parked further out (full aisle when I got there), and the rival car didn't have tinted windows.

On closer inspection they had black leather. Other than that they looked the same. Both were even absent '85' badging at the back. I didn't check the VIN to see if it was P85/85/60.

That's not a bad idea. Might actually help temporarily solve my mudpit driveway issue. MS is so heavy it tore up my driveway pretty bad. Tires get all muddy every time I pull in and out of the garage. Had to even lie down some spare studs for some makeshift bridges it got so bad.

I'd love to pave my driveway but every quote I get is over > $7k-$10k. Not worth it at those prices IMO :(

That's a big area, my fake grass covers a 9 x 24 area of compressed gravel. Nonetheless it was only $70!. I would get the stuff with the stiffer packing next time though. Also the gravel was only $200 delivered and compressed so maybe look into that?

Visiting family in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year, I had finished dinner and was crossing street to hail a cab, when i noticed this red car displayed in courtyard in front of a Mercedes Benz showroom. Why its a Signature red Model S - and displayed right in front of the MB showroom - genius! This must be the first public viewing in central Hong Kong.

Later upon examining Tesla's Hong Kong website, I find that this Tesla will be displayed from Jan 15 through Feb 15 at the Hopewell Center in Wan Chai. And btw I find that there is a Tesla charging station in Hopewell's 12th floor parking - how convenient.

No chance to see how the rear seat was "improved"?

Nope. Couldn't even tell if its a RH drive car (doubt it).

I will be going out of HK for the weekend but will try to revisit when I return.

Looks like the driver's side rear door handle is extended or is that just a shadow?

Today I saw my third German Model S on my way home from work, on the Autobahn A99 north of Munich. Blew past me at what must have been close to 100mph. Noteworthy is the fact that it had no dealer stickers or anything like that so it was probably my first "genuine" sighting of a Model S of a private customer.

My first sighting was one of the three cars they had brought to Germany to introduce them and my second appeared to be a show car and had a big dealer sticker on the side so I feel they don't really count.

On Montrose Parkway in Rockville, MD this morning at about 8:30am, and had another 85 pull up next to me. With the road salt, etc.. (on both our cars!), it was hard to tell if it was black, or blue like mine. Clever license plate:"GRNRG".

    Cool dude...

Well, this is not really random as the picture taken yesterday night during Elon's appearance at Munich store. Presumably the first TMS Taxi in Germany

That was a shadow. All handles were retracted. Turns out I know the owner. He unfortunately bent both his front rims on a pothole and was heading to Rockville Service Center for replacements...

I was on Montrose yesterday around 8:30 too! Must've just missed you. We could've had a caravan....
