1/1/2015
guest Less rare every day - ours got installed last week in a home visit, sans the $100 ranger-charge.
However, it doesn't show as much on our black car as the white one pictured.
Also reporting a sighting: a blue one in the New York Hospital of Queen's employee parking lot in Flushing.

Probably a good idea.
1/1/2015
guest I was in Thousand Oaks last week parked in a spot visible from the 101 and no posts of our silver model S.
1/1/2015
guest not sure this counts as entirely random, but I did see mfcnova's grey one this morning. When he first posted his pics in the delivery thread, i was SURE i recognized that location, and sure enough, it's less than a block from my office. (yes, i'm working today - major software upgrade). anyway, the Grey looks absolutely fantastic in real life in the sun. I'm NOT going to rethink my color choice!!! (hopefully me swinging past there doesn't sound too stalkerish).

1/1/2015
guest I saw a Grey S (from my Grey S ) in Los Altos on San Antonio Rd yesterday. cameras are too slow for the S!~
1/1/2015
guest I wonder if I saw either you or the one you saw. I was driving to work on 101S yesterday morning and I was passed by a Grey Model S, which I then followed most of the way down the peninsula. I got a lousy photo, but I think it's a little interesting because it shows how much lower to the ground the Model S is at highway speed than most other cars on the road.

1/1/2015
guest Thanks bonnie for calling me a lair. It's pretty hard to pull my cell phone out my pocket, drive and take a pictures of cars going in the other direction.
Well here's a pic if you really need one.
1/1/2015
guest Red Sig on Alicante Rd. in Carlsbad just a few minutes ago. It wasn't TMC member PSullivan, who lives in the area, so perhaps there is another neighbor who has a Sig, or perhaps they were just passing through. Torn between not being as exclusive and now seeing my 2nd Model S in the wild in the last week.

guest Saw two black Model S's heading north on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach around 3:45 pm while heading southbound. I don't know if they saw us or not. No time for photos.
1/1/2015
guest Finally had a ipod w/me to take a picture when I saw a silver S on 280 NB this afternoon. maybe the Santana TD car? The driver seemed 'busy' as I was passing him.

1/1/2015
guest The Santana Row test drive car is a metallic brown. There are quite a few of us on the road in the Bay Area, so it's hard to even begin to guess who you might have seen. Of the three I've seen parked at my building one is silver, one is a signature red, and mine is the pearl white.
1/1/2015
guest Well, it wasn't entirely random. But I still thought it was pretty fun when my friend Mike came by today with his pearl white Model S Performance. He ended up nose to nose with my regular white.

1/1/2015
guest Whoa! "Pics or it didn't happen" is an ongoing forum JOKE. If I were going to call someone a liar, I'd say exactly that. And iirc, there was a whole series of posts of 'hey, saw a Model S on the road'. Not sure why you thought my "Pics or it didn't happen" was directed at you.
Again, it's an ongoing forum joke. Sorry you took offense.
(And thanks, Brianman, for trying to calm it down. I appreciate the 'assume good intent'.)

Then I apologize to Bonnie and the forum for taking it so personal.
I have seen two Model S in the Miami and was disappointed that I could not get those pics like everyone has been doing.
1/1/2015
guest No worries. Moving on
(and have that camera at the ready!)
1/1/2015
guest Documented my first in the wild encounter today, that is, not at a Tesla Store, or Service Center. Immediately recognized the cat eyes of this black? Model S in my mirrors so I was able to get the camera ready as he passed me on the Capitol Beltway this afternoon. So happy to add to the East Coast sightings!
I sent my final paperwork and payment today so there should be at least one more black Model S (60 kWh) in the DC region in about two weeks. I wonder if I'll see my own car here soon ;-)
1/1/2015
guest Model S in KP
First post. Might as well be a Sighting.
I saw a Gray Model S around 3pm EST in King of Prussia, PA today. The car was heading past the mall. I was on other side.
Nice!

guest Pics or it didn't happen... ;-)

guest Welcome to the forum, Roy. (And know that ggr was joking.)
1/1/2015

I wasn't able to take a pic, because it happened so fast. Next time, I will try.
1/1/2015
guest Surprising number of internet rookies for a forum about Tesla...
1/1/2015
guest I find this oft-repeated comment so boring and unnecessary...We get it, it's a forum joke. It's just that it stopped being funny around 2004. If people can take a photo, they will. In not, not. Let's just let it go at this point...

1/1/2015

I know Mike Maloney has is getting one if he hasn't already. He had a roadster till it got in an accident.

1/1/2015
guest Saw one at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Portland, OR yesterday. First time I've seen one other than my own, excepting the PDX Tesla get together last month. I suppose within a year it'll be an every day occurrence in most places.
1/1/2015
guest Ouch! I am admittedly goofy, but I still think it's funny. However maybe we could abbreviate "POIDH" so as to not annoy those that don't? Or, maybe a new thread for undocumented/unverified sightings? Or maybe just another group hug?
1/1/2015
guest group huuuug!!!
1/1/2015
guest Eh, bad puns annoy me, but I have to accept others find them funny. We all have our burdens to bear in life. This really shouldn't be one.
1/1/2015
guest Holy cr4p! I thought I was good at spotting all things Tesla ... but this takes the cake. I literally had to rewind twice to see the picture on the wall. Congrats.
1/1/2015
guest Yes at 1:37 in the video, picture of Model S
Yes, around 1:37 in the video. There is a "picture of a Model S" in the upper middle left corner above the PC monitor.
Enjoyed watching the video too.

guest Lol Bonnie...Well here's a little nugget that I got today.
1/1/2015
guest Interesting, the "retrofitted" European upgrades don't look too great, i.e. the added lamps on the rear bumper. I guess they switched out the reversing lamps in the US tail lights to be turn signals, and then added a fog/reverse lamp in the bumper (since the fog has to be a certain distance from tail lights).
Also, interesting wheels. Needless to say I am intrigued about what the final modifications will be for European/non-US models!

1/1/2015
guest I followed this fellow all the way from Scotts Valley to Saratoga during my morning commute. We stopped side-by-side in Los Gatos for a friendly wave, but I haven't any idea who the fellow was. Was anyone here followed by a Pearl White Model S along that route today?

1/1/2015
guest Great photos. Saw a white S south on the 405 near Euclid street off ramp around 9:30 pm tomight, no time for photos. Good to see more S's on the road.
1/1/2015
guest I think your Tesla detector is broken. Apparently it thinks it's looking at an Alpha of the Model S, or some other Model A that we haven't been told about yet.
1/1/2015
guest I'll be joining you guys on that commute really soon.
1/1/2015
guest FINALLY saw my first Model S in the wild today. Tysons Corner, VA on Westpark Drive at around 8am. It was either blue or black, couldn't tell. 19" wheels. "Tesla - No Emissions" tag on still.
kinda sux cuz i wanted to already be driving MY Model S by the time I saw my first other one on the road. oh well. i'll add that to my list of things that are in no way actual problems.
1/1/2015
guest The more, the merrier. What's your ETA? I'll be looking forward to seeing yours - the grey exterior was really tempting.

guest First spotting in Indianapolis (that I know of)
Dave's Model S parked in my office parking garage while on business in Indianapolis. I had a buzz just looking at it sitting there this morning...absolutely stunning car! I can't wait to have mine parked in that spot in a couple week!
When I took this pic, the late morning office crowd was pulling in and you should have seen the heads turning when THIS greeted them right after the ticket gate! Pretty sure one has not yet been seen in Indianapolis...until now. Thanks dave!!!

1/1/2015
guest Thanks for keeping an eye on her. Took a taxi to work because I didn't want to take her our in the snow with summer tires. I couldn't bear to leave her at home the day after I got her though. I may be here until spring.
1/1/2015
guest Wow! That is sort of funny and sort of not. I guess the only public stations I've charged at were the Milford, CT SuperCharger and Westport, CT train station, and both are basically just parking spaces of normal dimensions.

guest Had my first friendly encounter with a fellow Model S owner driving a Sig Red. It was brief as we crossed each other this morning on N California Ave, Palo Alto near my son's school.
There were friendly waves all the same; couldn't recall what Tesla salute we had worked out here on TMC
1/1/2015

Model S Salute

guest how about a thumbs up through the sunroof.
1/1/2015
guest We apparently have another Santa Cruz-to-Silicon Valley owner. My second siting on Hwy 17 in 2 days after GeekGirl and I encountered each other yesterday. Gonna have to rename it Tesla Valley.
1/1/2015
guest Saw a Sig Red driving on the 26 east-bound toward Portland yesterday about 7:50 AM as I was heading out to Hillsboro. My first spotting of one on the road. The 'cat eyes' are unmistakable. I love that the Model S has such an iconic and easily-recognizable trademark.
1/1/2015
guest Just spotted a black one turning onto Crest in Walnut Creek. Tried to make a U-Turn to talk, but he was long gone.

guest Just saw this one on 580 E in Pleasanton

1/1/2015
guest Please note that it's a US version first registered in the US, then imported to Norway by a local car dealership as a demo car. So the "retrofitted solutions" are more or less an ad-hoc solution for this specific car to get it approved in Norway. The European versions are for sure going to be more elegant (I would expect nothing less).
BTW, second thoughts this was not the first Model S, as Tesla themselves arranged test drives in Oslo in December '12, and also had one on display in September/October-ish last year.
1/1/2015
guest Sighted heading south on the 405 just past the 10 freeway! Moments before this I sighted a white Model S heading north on the same freeway. In the last two weeks I've seen 8 of the Model S's in the wild! Tesla must have that factory on full blast!

1/1/2015
guest Indeed, I realise it is (presumably) not the final solution, just found it interesting since, as you say there were earlier cars that did not have such things. I guess they are just testing the wiring/software with the amber bulbs, foglight etc before fitting the final design.
1/1/2015
guest Looks like they are shipping w spoilers again... Nice
1/1/2015
guest Just had my first Manhattan Model S sighting in the wild. A silver one headed north on 8th avenue past 50th street toward Columbus circle! Must have been relatively new as it had the general production nosecone and no plates yet.
1/1/2015
guest This morning I saw a parade of 20 or so Model S and Roadsters on Paseo del Mar in Palos Verdes - very cool sight to see!
1/1/2015
guest Yes, the SoCalGreenSpeed meetup. Unfortunately we had to leave early or we'd have been in the parade too. See the California forum page for details.
1/1/2015
guest I saw my second 'random' Model S today driving back, in my Model S, from retaking some wedding photos. Signature Red right at noon.
I was on Cheshire Bridge going North directly before going under I-85. I turned to get to GA-400 North, while they kept driving up Lenox Road towards Buckhead.

guest Caught up (barely) with a Blue Perf Model S coming off 280 N onto 92 E and then onto Ralston Ave in Belmont this afternoon. There were friendly waves all around (including from a little hand in the other car )

guest Saw my first random sighting in the DC area, on Connecticut Ave. north
1/1/2015
guest I wonder if that's the same blue I saw today ~4:45pm outside of the Safeway at Ralston and El Camino.
1/1/2015
guest I let a red signature pull pull out on front of me this evening on West 4th Ave near Capers. I tried to give the guy a thumbs up, but he was looking at the screen at both stop lights!
1/1/2015
guest Got to be it. They went down Ralston while we turned off on Belmont Canyon right around 3 pm. Jeez, we were at the Starbucks near Lunardi's at around 4:15 and could have caught your car!
1/1/2015
guest
Must have been cold there in Maryland! Or do you like it that hot in your car?
1/1/2015
guest There have been some posts about having to up the temperature to keep the car reasonably warm. It's thought that the sensor is in a place that warms up before the rest of the car.
1/1/2015
guest As a stock holder I am incredibly happy that I'm seeing AT LEAST 4-5 per day in "Tesla Valley"
I'd really increase my post count if I posted every time I saw one.
If you want to see one in the wild, go check out Eco green car wash on middlefield. They are frequently washing them! I'm going today...
1/1/2015
guest lol, what's missing is the info that I had the sunroof wide open. I've found the heat works great, through I do keep everything on manual.

1/1/2015
guest I just had my first Model S sighting in the wild in the western suburbs of Chicago. It was a red sig with grey wheels turning east onto Plainfield Road from northbound Kingery Highway in Westmont. I was first at the light southbound turning to go the same way in my blue S, but I don't think the driver saw me. Trying to get in some driving before the freezing rain hits; maybe he was doing the same. My son couldn't take the pic in time...

1/1/2015
guest I would think so...
1/1/2015
guest A friend sighted one between Ridgewood and Cresskill NJ on a Sunday morning two weeks ago. I asked what color but forgot what she told me. Then she said I do not know what all this talk is about on Tesla it looks like an ordinary car.
1/1/2015
guest saw this performance model s at the jans marketplace parking lot today
it had some little snow glass thing on the dash
also saw a white base model on thousand oaks blvd in front of the audi dealer
1/1/2015
guest Love it!!!
1/1/2015
guest Quick side story. I have been using the mirrors in reverse and for days I still kept parking crooked by a bit. It was really driving me nuts (I'm kinda anal that way) then one day a coworker and I were looking at the car and realized that I had lined up the left side wheels but since the rear wheel span is wider than the front, the car ends up a bit crooked when backing in (if that makes sense). So. After accounting for that I'm finally getting better

1/1/2015
guest Just saw a white Model S going eastbound on Aviara Parkway here in Carlsbad. It's the 3rd sighting I've had in 3 weeks, all different colors. Will the next be Silver, Green, Grey or Brown?
With the distinctive driving light pattern, you don't even have to be searching these cars out, they just jump out at you...
1/1/2015
guest They're Everywhere!!
There is a story from the early days of the automobile when there were only two automobiles in the state of Kansas. As the story goes, despite the fact that there were only two automobiles in the entire state, the two cars collided with one another.
A little over a week ago I parked my car at lot 6 at LAX. There was only one other Model S when I parked. Six days later, when I returned, there were four others for a total of five. I don't consider this completely random as lot 6 offers free EV parking (ending at the end of next month) and there are EV chargers in this lot.
Then yesterday, I pass a white Model S on Rinaldi in the north San Fernando Valley. This is my first truly random sighting since I received my Model S in October.
Today, just over 24 hours later, I see a blue Model S parked at the Warner Center in Woodland Hills. I take the opportunity to relocate my Model S so that we are parked side by side. I didn't see the other owner and left first so, the other owner likely doesn't know of the encounter.
Two days, two random sightings. For those that don't know the area, I'm referring to the Los Angeles area, which is to say this isn't the same Tesla hotbed that is Silicon Valley (although it is California).
We will know the Model S has reached a meaningful level of penetration when we get our first report of two Model S in the wild colliding with one another. (I don't count the fender bender at the Get Amped Tour as being in the wild.) Something to aspire to! And given that these cars are popping up everywhere...

1/1/2015
guest What do you think the odds are that they'll collide while fumbling with their phones trying to take pictures of one another for this thread?
1/1/2015
guest Works fine in that position.
1/1/2015
guest In San Diego this morning. Red one is mine. Didn't meet the owner of the blue one, but it sure is pretty and I love the plate!
