Random Model S sightings part 33

Sorry no VIN pics. If you live close all those cars will be moved back outside on Monday am. And I am pretty sure there was no grey, both were the new "silver".

Saw a nice P85D on the street in Minneapolis yesterday. Had 21" rims but didn't see if they were stock tires (not good for cold weather) or they were winter or all-season tires. It was below 32 when I took this pic.

And I also saw another "Model S" at the Minneapolis Institute of Art:

Yeah, I should stop calling it grey. I ordered a midnight silver. The closest one looked like it could have been it. I will certainly swing by on Monday to take a peek.

They park the cars on the south side of the building if you don't already know what....easy access from 72nd Ave.:-(

I am confused why silver is in quotes. We're this the dark gray cars currently called "Midnight Silver Metallic" or the restored silver cars called "Silver Metallic"?
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
Both of them where Titanium Metallic. No gray, no silver.
  • 1/1/2015

Ahh, titanium, not gray or "silver". Much clearer. Thank you.

maybe I'm just getting bored waiting for my own delivery... (you know, repeatedly refreshing My Tesla page all day, endlessly reading every TMC subforum...)
so I thought I'd chime in on this thread, even though on any typical day around these parts I might spot at least 4 or 5 different Model S driving around town. So not so rare anymore, but this time I was walking and snapped a pic. Charging at the community centre, a white 85 with personalized plates visiting from out of town (welcome!)

Ok this won't make sense to ... 99,980/100,000-ish owners, assuming there's now about 20 or so Model S in Victoria by now. But seeing 3 in the space of hour has to warrant a post.
    1. In front of Royal Oak School about 6:05pm, being dark I couldn't see the colour or plate; I was walking to the parking lot
    2. 15 minutes later, exchanged waves at intersection Douglas & Broughton with what looked either silver or titanium with a personalized plate; howdy!
    3. Just down the street from the wave, a parked MC red

Thinking about the logistics there... I'm guessing you would take delivery of the car in western Europe and then drive it back to Turkey? Closest store is in Austria. And that last supercharger stop in Croatia probably won't be enough to get you home.

At IKEA in Tampa, just a few minutes ago! I know this car...I tried to get in it by mistake at the Don Garlits event!
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
I know IKEA is big on solar, so had to take a look on GMaps. Wow, that roof is loaded. Also noticed that the inside of the building is mapped, which I knew was a feature for a while, but I think it's the first time I've seen it.

I had another good sighting about a month ago on NB Rochester that I didn't post. Pretty sure it's the same one with tinted windows I've seen many times before on Rochester going the opposite direction. This is the first time I saw the plate, let alone seen it on my side of the road. It passed me kind of quickly and I couldn't clearly see through the tint for a wave.
    2015-11-23_model-s-sighting-59.png

Also, on the 1st, I saw two just 2 minutes apart on the other side (NB) of M-59, at around 8:25am. They were too small and blurry in the dashcam capture to be worth posting. That was the third time I saw two in one day. The first time, coincidentally, was on the morning of Dec. 1st last year, just 1 minute apart on the other side (EB) of Hall. Second time was on the evening of June 30, 7 minutes apart on the other side (SB) of Stephenson and Rochester.

Is it "normal" that I've kept such detailed data on all my sightings for over 2 years and 60 sightings? Apparently I'm not only obsessed with Tesla, but spreadsheets too. I can't wait until I see so many that I can't keep up with the log and give up on it, as what happened with my Volt log just before my first Tesla sighting.

    Well, yeah, sure. OK. Fine.

But it could also be a reason to do a road trip across Serbia and Bulgaria. Plovdiv looks like an amazing city to visit. Of course, several of the enthusiastic blog articles that show up in a search for "bulgarian road trip" mention the fact that Bulgaria feels "off the grid" to a large extent, so I'd imagine you'd need to research the available charging options carefully.

Last March, while taking my first REAL road trip in my Metallic Blue Model S, I stayed at the Luxor Hotel in Vegas. I parked in their parking garage, as far away as I could get from the hotel entrance, just being paranoid of the other guests parking skills. First trip to my car after I checked in, and a beautiful brown Model S (from Florida) had parked next to me! I felt honored. Fun to have a Hawaii car parked next to a Florida car, in Vegas, no less. VERY SLOWLY . No, really, it took a month to get my car from Maui to Albuquerque (I drove from Albuquerque to Vegas). It took another month for the return trip to Maui. The worst thing about owning my Model S is GOING WITHOUT it.

Visiting South Florida today and decided to check out the destination chargers at the Bal Harbour Shopping Center...

Saw a couple of Model S using them in Blue Ground Level C and E.

This is the one in Blue C:

But the really random one was the one from Ontario, Canada parked in the Pink (2nd Garage Level)

We were eating dinner in a restaurant tonight and I saw what looked like the taillight pattern of a Model S in the unlit parking lot. It looked like a white or silver car, but could just barely make out the silhouette. I went out to grab some cash from my SO's car's console to pay the bill and sure enough, it was a white Model S. Oddly the badge on the right side of the trunk was missing so I don't know the battery size or whether it was RWD or AWD. I took a picture while we were leaving.

Probably a 2012 or early 2013 car. Tesla didn't put model identifying badges on their cars for the first 7-8 months of production. My January 2013 Model S has no "S60" badge.

Just noticed it posted a huge copy upside down too. I thought I had deleted that. Now it won't delete it for some reason.

I thought it might be the nice forum member who gave me a test drive when I first joined, he has a very early, white Model S, but the guy who walked in the restaurant with his wife was a different person.

You can delete the upside down copy by editing your post, selecting the "Go Advanced" option, and then selecting the "Manage Attachments" option. Once there, just delete the upside down photo attachment, and then save your edit.

(It took me a little while to figure that out too! :) )

Spotted a classic blue P85+ with Florida plate BSI C02 on I-95 Southbound at Sample Road in Deerfield Beach. I saw them coming up and waved out my window. Male drive and female passenger waved ecstatically back.

I drove 800 miles to South Florida and that was my only spotting the whole way down (excluding Superchargers). Saw lots of travelers this weekend, so I'll spare everyone the photographs of those.

Woo woo woo. Hold the presses! That looks like an EV1, but I thought GM forced every one of them to be crushed?!?
  • 1/1/2015

I believe there was a single intact one donated to the Smithsonian, and a few others that were mechanically and electrically disabled that still exist in a few research labs.
  • 1/1/2015

There's atleast one other functional one sitting in Francis Ford Coppola's vineyard in Northern California. Jay Leno paid him a visit in a Model S recently:

Jay Leno Races Tesla in his 427 Cobra

Coppola apparently hid it when GM came around looking to crush it.
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
I'd be surprised if they didn't charge him with theft. GM only leased those cars and they wanted their property back. GM did donate a number of disabled EV-1s to museums and such. I believe the only one that is still operational is the one in the Smithsonian.
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
The references I've seen suggest that about 40 were donated to various educational institutions and museums, though all except the one given to the Smithsonian were deactivated in some way.

History, Travel, Arts, Science, People, Places | Smithsonian

This one was riding high enough that I imagine it doesn't have a battery pack.

But if you're in Cleveland and want to see it, it's in the Western Reserve Historical Society basement, along with an eclectic collection of other cars (including a DeLorean and three other stainless steel cars).

We had a Delorean convention in Cleveland, oh back in 2000 and went to this museum and saw these Stainless cars. Really impressive in person (along with one of three gold plate Deloreans).

I'm pretty sure the Peterson Museum in LA has an EV1 in the basement.
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
I saw a tweet from someone (don't remember who) on the recent re-opening of the Petersen that shows that EV1 in a more prominent non ICE section of the collection. It used to be in the basement (special admission/extra admission). Chelsea Sexton was seen visiting that car in either Who Killed the Electric Car or Revenge of the Electric Car (I don't remember which one).

There's also another EV1 in LA at the Nethercutt Museum.

I don't like to continue off-topic discussions, but I can't not post this...

Here's a photo I took in 2012 of an EV1 at the Ford Museum. I don't know which one it was or where it is now. It was gone last I was there.

Let me add front and rear views of EV-1 located at The Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar, CA. I got a kick out of the description of the 1914 electric sitting next to EV-1:

Although this probably doesn't count as "random", I figured I'd post it here anyway. I've been on travel for most of the last 3 months, but back at my normal work location today. At lunchtime, I noticed another Model S parked next to me in our parking lot. It's the first 70 I've seen on island. Given that there are only about 50 or so Model S on Maui, I think it is pretty cool.

(The silver Model S in the back is mine, and the two in front belong to one of the other families at school. The outlier is my wife's BMW 335d. We were joking about making her move so we could get all the Teslas together.)

If that were me and my SO, I wouldn't be joking about making her move, I would have practically insisted on it!!! (And she probably would.)

you should've taken her keys, moved her car and summoned your car forward.

In my twice weekly trip to Detroit, I have had the chance to see and follow a DeLorean, a EV1, even a Ford GT. Around the Detroit Woodward Dream Cruise event, lots of exotic cars. All on the interstates and being driven.

How is it possible an EV1 was seen driving?

I thought GM disabled the few they allowed to be saved by museums and the rest destroyed.

I was wondering the same. The only EV1 that was not disabled was the one given to the Smithsonian, since they only take intact specimens. However, according to Wikipedia, some deactivated EV1s were later reactivated against their agreements.

Francis Ford Coppola has an EV-1 that works. Jay Leno included it in a recent episode of his current show online.

I don't know if this counts as a Random Sighting...

A group of local owners got together for lunch today. Someone driving by snapped this picture (so Random Sighting to him), and posted about it on Reddit. In our town, it still is pretty uncommon to see a Tesla, let alone a group of them together.

It doesn't count but who cares. Your screen name is hilarious.

I'm in Oslo right now and it's great seeing all the MS here. The D probably is great in the winter months.

Saw this one in downtown Vancouver, WA today. What was funny was I had a feeling to look around the parking lot to look for Tesla's when I left the building. I had given up and was getting into my car when I looked up and saw this P85. I saw a black one on SR14 on my way there. The first two Teslas I've seen in weeks.

Saw a white one on EB Square Lake at Rochester around 6PM. I was NB Rochester in the right lane hiding behind a van and SUV. I'm pretty sure that was the first sighting I confirmed by looking at the tail lights, since I didn't take notice until after it passed the intersection.

Saw a black Tesla S in Telluride, CO yesterday AM. With no nearby superchargers, I can only guess it is a local car?

Saw this one on February 7th. Seems to be an early one since there's no battery designation. It is an old blue on 422. TMC member? DSC00050.JPG DSC00051.JPG

Not me... But, speaking for those that have "Old Blue". I prefer the term "Classic Tesla Blue"

Saw one in a very remote location: Stovepipe Wells hotel in the middle of Death Valley National Park!! Was surprised to see a Tesla there. 2c8fcfb55985195afe05d8a354bd9bf3.jpg

I've recently heard the Model S referred to as passe and I see them fairly regularly now, but this morning I saw a Sig Reg heading into DC on Chain Bridge. This rare bird still makes me jealous of the truly early adopters.
