guest Interestingly, I stopped dreaming about Tesla after Model S became my reality car. So no, the P90D (Ludicrous or otherwise) isn't my dream car, it was just any Model S.

guest My wife and I had our 85's get their annual service on successive days and we had a P85D loaner for 2 1/2 days.
I could do without the P and insane mode, sure its a good parlor trick, which I did again and again, but I am
craving the D now. The seats in the P85D were excellent though!

1/1/2015
guest How much do you want to bet somebody parks their beater right next to the Model S?
Happens to me a lot! especially when I had a Delorean... I'd park at the mall out at the furthest edge of an empty lot, and 8 times out of 10, I'd come out to find someone parked directly next to me. Not one or two spaces away, but the adjacent spaces. I'm not parking away from everyone else to be a privileged *******, I just don't want to get door dings or scratches.
1/1/2015
guest I imagine he made sure to park next to car people who would probably pay close enough attention not to ding him!

guest Saw this today on I-680 northbound in San Ramon, CA. To my uneducated eye, this appears to be a Model S body shell...does this count as a partial Model S sighting? It's certainly fairly random!

1/1/2015

guest Wednesday afternoon I pulled up next to a white Model S by the Hilton in downtown St. Pete. The driver looked over and I waved. He looked perplex for a second, wondering why I was waving. Then he looked down and the door handle, realized I was driving a Model S. He got all excited and said something to the passenger who leaned forward to look. Then he rolled the window down to speak, but the light changed and we had to go. Almost a combo random sighting / Tesla moment.

His and Hers Teslas.
The white one looks like ours. Wish we had another like this brilliant couple so we wouldn't have to share.

guest It was a wonderful 70F day and I had my sunroof and front windows open 100%, which isn't very common since I'm usually listening to podcasts on my commute and driving on highways or in smelly/noisy traffic. Because of that, I was able to wave to this one on Van Dyke very obviously with my hand out the window. I think they waved back, but difficult to tell.

guest Company picnic today in McLean VA, at a park where at least one other company was doing the same thing. We arrive, get some food, and sit down next to the CTO and his family. He says he saw my car when he arrived, and he immediately starts giving me a hard time about my parking job. I ask, "how long have you been here?" And he replies, "about a half-hour." I had only arrived 5 minutes prior, and sure enough, my wife spotted a nearly identical silver P85 (with grey interior) already in the parking lot. And the parking job actually wasn't all that bad, the driver just hadn't pulled up as far as he/she should have.
The story reminds me a bit about my first random Model S sighting, which I might have posted about a long time ago, but I can't find the post.
May 2013, I was at an all-day event at a campground, in a remote area off Route 1 between Malibu and Oxnard. I had only just heard about Model S a few weeks before, and after receiving some good news while in LA (from the same CTO in fact) I started thinking about test driving one. The parking lot held maybe 25-50 cars total, many of which were rentals that out-of-town family were driving. One of the cars in the lot was a grey P85, so I pointed it out to my wife and kids, and I even took a photo of it (see below). That car left the event in the mid-late afternoon, I think, and I never (knowingly) met the owner. Then, a couple hours later, a blue Model S, which I had somehow missed in the parking lot, drove by us as it was leaving the same event. I was floored to see two together in such a remote location, especially since not that many had been delivered yet (maybe ~10K total).

I've been boring everyone about my Tesla dreams and orders/cancellations/reorders.
We had to go out and take a peak, so exciting! The 1st Tesla I've seen since my test drive back in February!
MC Red, no real license plates, just lame Nebraska Husker booster plates on the front and back.

guest On my way to work this morning, I was surprised to find a Model S (PURENV) staring at me in my rear view. When traffic hit a light, he pulled up next to me and gave a thumbs up while I waved. We pretty much stuck together for 3 miles until he had to turn. Yet another best ever on-the-road sighting.
It's kind of odd how I haven't seen as many in oncoming traffic lately and the first two I saw going my direction have been in the past 5 weeks. I hope my Tesla sense isn't broken, but if it is, this is a good sign that the number of local owners is steadily increasing.
1/1/2015
guest A report from Calif. only because it was a bit unique: heading down 101 South near Whipple Ave. in Redwood City, passed two Signature Red Model S within half a mile of each other. And, both owners appeared to be allergic to the white HOV stickers and preferred to crawl in the traffic-filled lanes while I whizzed past them in the carpool lane.
1/1/2015
guest I can't image doing that for 3 years. I could barely stand it for the few weeks it took to get my stickers.
1/1/2015
guest Glad to see so many Tesla owners out enjoying Highway 1 today. Came across five Model Ss during my journey from SLO to Monterey...including some of the rarer colors (green and brown). I'd guess the Seaside supercharger was pretty busy today, and I'd like to see Tesla put a supercharger in the Avila Beach/Pismo area, that way you could charge there rather than have to go all the way down to Buellton or go back up and over the grade to get to Atascadero.

1/1/2015
guest For my 50th random sighting, this morning I saw a chrome-erased / blacked-out Model S on EB M-59. I think the first of that kind I've seen.

1/1/2015
guest Looks like I need to cut down on my sightings posts, as it appears I'm the most frequent poster and usually have large dashcam images. I suppose I'll start by cutting out sightings across highway medians, which is a good half of them and don't really make for good pictures.
Anyway, I coincidentally saw another one on the way home today which may qualify as my 5th best sighting. Didn't get it on dashcam since it was behind me the whole time. It was a beautiful white one that followed me (a few cars behind) off M-53 to Van Dyke and took a left turn at a light while I went straight. The light was red just long enough for me to roll down my window and awkwardly wave at it just behind to my left. Couldn't see through the windshield reflection if the driver responded.
1/1/2015
guest I secretly hope to come to this thread on day and find a random pic of my car. So if I end up driving around Detroit, I'll want Pilot_51 still posting pics!
1/1/2015
guest That was one of my unmet goals with our road trip from Southern California to Maine this past May.
I posted several random Model S that I've spotted on the drive, but was never someone else's "random" Model S.
I know that I've "made it" when I see our Model S on this thread.
1/1/2015
guest That's why I come here too, lol
1/1/2015
guest Hehe, okay y'all, I guess I'll continue posting it all for the time being if nobody objects. Though, I would like to see a little more dilution from other people's sightings so I don't feel so much like I'm spamming the thread with my obsession. And, well, hopefully more chance of a sighting of my car showing up here.
1/1/2015
guest Keep 'em coming, Pilot_51!
I can't post any sitings, Teslas are as rare as hens teeth here in Iowa, especially on the poor side of town where I live!
1/1/2015

1/1/2015

guest No picture, unfortunately, but my wife and I just passed (while driving the Subaru) at about 3:05 PM a Signature Red Model S that was heading into downtown Ithaca, headed west, down the hill, on East State Street (Route 79.) I think the Model S may have had a Gold Tesla T, but I'm not certain. I'm guessing this was probably the Sig Red owned by the owners of Purity Ice Cream in Ithaca, which was the first Model S in Ithaca. I had never spotted it before. In fact, that was the first time I've seen any Sig Red in person. There was a split second disconnect when I first spotted the car, as it looked like a Tesla, but the color wasn't right!
1/1/2015
guest I was sitting at a Church mission pumpkin sale in Cresskill NJ, In about 3 hours I counted 6 Tesla's go by. One stopped and I had a good conversation with him. When I left I sighted number 7 in a parking lot. All cars were on Union Ave in Cresskill NJ except number 7... The most I have seen in that short a time span.
1/1/2015
guest I went to Northside Grill for brunch this morning, as I pulled in to the parking lot, I saw this blue Model S with WA plates with its handles presented. I thought "gee, I better tell the staff that there's a Tesla with its doors unlocked so they can get the owner to lock it." After I parked and was walking to the entrance, I saw the car heading out. Oops!

guest I was traveling Westbound on Fairview Road in Charlotte around 3:30 pm this afternoon when I changed lanes to get around a car waiting to turn left. I was very happy to see a white Model S with a black top or panoramic roof in my rear camera. Followed me a few blocks before traffic got between us. My passenger was on a call and by the time it was safe to take a photo with my phone (i.e. at the next red light), traffic had gotten between us.

guest Wasn't me that time, but I was down in Charlotte yesterday for a bit (dropped my wife off at a place on Fairview Rd) and I spotted a gray Model S in the entering the same parking lot at a different entrance. I was coming around the other side, and when I got to that spot it was gone.
Also spotted another, a red one IIRC, heading south on Hwy 16 about half-way between Charlotte and Newton.
1/1/2015
guest There are a couple gray ones in Myers Park. The three of us manage to pass each other often. Fairview has three regulars that I know about, and then Colony has another two. Before getting my S, I used to see a handful a week around my house. Now I get to see one every day! I'm in Florida now or else I'd say lets meet up sometime. Maybe in November.

guest Spotted at 1 am at the Santee, SC Supercharger. I wonder if this 90D coming down from DC has gone further than my 85 coming up from Miami? Btw, I'm pretty sure his chargeport opened up because I plugged in my car. It will automatically close even without the key present, right? Would you close it to be sure?

1/1/2015
guest Why is he parked there if not charging? That's the question...
1/1/2015
guest The missing screw and uneven alignment of the screws on the pedestal are setting off my OCD. :crying:
1/1/2015
guest If anyone is wondering, the chargeport did eventually close. But the question remains for non-auto-closing ports... Would you touch someone else's car to close the port for them in a scenario like this? I know some people really get upset if others touch their possessions.
Good catch!
1/1/2015
guest Just closing my chargeport wouldn't bother me, especially since I'd be annoyed if they didn't and I wouldn't know until I got in and saw it on the dash. I'm very lazy, you know.
1/1/2015

1/1/2015
guest Another Model S spotted in Istanbul / Turkey. This car makes so much sense here, there are already around 20 or so Model S's imported into the country. (145% ICE tax vs. 3% EV tax) Tesla is launching officially in Turkey within 6 months hopefully.

1/1/2015
guest Not entirely random, but saw PA plate NOC024U when i was dropping my NY car off to get some wrapping work done in NJ. Guess our cars are spending some time together this weekend.
1/1/2015
guest Man, I'm on a roll. Two more sightings to report. Just one more and I'll tie my record of six for a single calendar month.
Thursday morning, on Rochester passing over M-59.
This morning, seen coming out of a car wash on Rochester. Followed behind me until I-75. I waved when we hit a light, but I didn't see him wave (maybe he waved earlier and I missed it).

1/1/2015
guest Gosh, I see 6 in the am on the way to the grocery store! Dime a dozen around here. But in a way, that's good, I guess, cause no one really bothers about them anymore. I find myself wondering how many there must be up in NorCal!!
1/1/2015
guest This one's difficult to confirm, but it would appear to be a Model S on SB Rochester just south of South Blvd. at 5:34pm. The lights caught my attention as usual, but couldn't see the DRL clearly enough to be sure and the body was effectively invisible.
Is there anyone monitoring this thread who regularly drives their Model S in this area? Judging by the lack of anyone claiming I spotted them or anyone else posting local sightings, I kind of feel like I'm the only one and my efforts to spot someone from TMC are more or less futile. There was the exception of SteelGrey, but that was a major fluke with him coming to my work on a brief contract.

guest Wasn't me..that time. I've done that route twice in the last week, though
1/1/2015

guest My brother is temporarily living in Troy (Black S), but I do not believe that was him.
1/1/2015
guest Pretty sure he's talking about the dark colored car on the other side of the road. The red car's not close at all...not even cigarettes!
1/1/2015
guest Correct. I've seen enough of them on the road that pretty much any clear detail of any part, like the cars on my side of the road, would be enough to be sure. Unfortunately, the few visible details of the car in question are a little too blurry, or in the moment it was too quick for me to get a good look.
1/1/2015
guest Pilot_51 was talking about the Model S to the left of the red car that you are referring to, Todd.
Edit: Weird page refresh delay or something. I posted the above, and now see others beat me to it. Sorry for being repetitive.
1/1/2015
guest I was in my kitchen a few minutes ago heating up my tea in the microwave and getting my mind back into work mode when I saw a car come down the street. My first thought was, "that headlight pattern looks like a Model S!" I couldn't see any better because I was looking through the branches of a tree in the front yard. I made my way to a better vantage point and sure enough, it was a Model S 85. The guy had just parked and was going next door.

1/1/2015
guest You didn't put a note under his wiper with the link to this thread? How can you call yourself obsessed?!
1/1/2015
guest I try to keep my obsessions under wraps.
I initially thought it was the same Tesla I saw at the local high school a few months ago, but that one was a P85 and this was just a base 85. The license plate numbers on the two were fairly close together though.
1/1/2015
guest When I had my P85 in NJ I ran across a Model S owner that had the same non-vanity plate as me except the last digit was one lower. Was pretty weird. He had purchased his months earlier than I also, making it even more weird.
1/1/2015
guest Same here, drove by a Tesla with a non vanity plate with the last digit one higher than mine a few months ago.
Last night, saw a Tesla at the DE supercharger with a VA license plate with the last digit 3 higher than mine. The rest identical.
I suspect they batch order a sequence.

1/1/2015
guest I would guess that's the Portland Service Center? I see a sign for CTX in one of the pictures, I believe they are in the same business park as the SC.
1/1/2015
guest All of the early CA signature Model Ss (that didn't have vanity plates) came with plates starting with "6USX...".
1/1/2015
guest Any chance you snapped a picture of the VIN on the grey one. That looks an awful lot like the one I have on order. Unlikely though -- as My Tesla still shows that I'm "In Production."
1/1/2015
guest Just noticed, it looks like all 5 of those Teslas in Portland have pano roofs.
1/1/2015
guest Two possible reasons for that:
1) Additional Vitamin D in those dreary rainy months
2) The people in Portland needs to have the roof rack for their biking expeditions.
You're in Clark Co...so you know exactly what I mean.
