guest Test drive car now available in Bellevue Square (Washington State). Was able to take it out for a drive to day and it was even more amazing than I remembered. Sorry, didn't catch the VIN, but it did seem to be one of the newer cars. I'll stop by the store and edit the post when I can get the VIN.
1/1/2015
guest Gorgeous. Is the interior Tan or Grey? I would love to see a pic with the door open if you do go back...grey with one of the light interiors is one of the color finalists for me, and I only saw the grey with black interior in person.

guest Wow!!!
Look at the gap between the hatch and the body!!!
I hope they fix that in the production models!!!!

guest VERY old beta(/alpha maybe) car.
1/1/2015
guest Yes, it's an engineering mule. I ran into one of Tesla's prototyping engineers w/ this car a couple months ago and talked to him for a bit. This car has been through hell mechanically and is in no way indicative of a customer Model S.
1/1/2015
guest Nice. How long were you able to take it out? Did you drop in and drive it, or call before hand to reserve a time?
1/1/2015
guest Thanks for posting this! Might have to come down from BC for a "fix," since up here we are still at least 2-3 months out!
1/1/2015
guest As nice as the grey looks with the dark performance wheels, I think it looks pretty awesome with the silver wheels too!
1/1/2015
guest Hi Jake, it does have the grey interior, so I'll try to get a picture of the door open. I was able to check out the ambient light setting and the front and rear doors have lighting in the gap where your arm can rest and the bottom part of the door, very nice looking in the dark. Also the auto-tilt mirrors were working, so when you put the car in reverse, they automatically tilt down. You can turn on the interior lighting (I think it was the 'dome' setting) and that turns on the two small button lights on each side of the mirror, so even though there isn't a light in the middle of the roof, there is enough light in the car with the button lights. I didn't check to see if there were rear reading lights in this car, but I would assume the rear reading lights will also come on when you select the dome setting on the touch screen.
The grey interior was very nice in the car. I liked the contrast between it and the black dash and top part of the door.
1/1/2015
guest Thanks Blurry_Eyed, this is fantastic input! I am down to silver/black, grey/grey and green/tan for my choices, and I am hoping to find a green TMS in the wild to see in person before I finalize.

guest Hi Epley, if you were referring to my photo. I took it with my iPhone yesterday. If you go by the Bell Sq. parking garage, by the valet level where Crate and Barrel is, the Grey car is there. I went by again today and showed some friends. It's VIN FP1205. There may have been some zero's ahead of the 1205, but I didn't write it down. Right now the car is probably there more than it's out for test drives, but as more and more people are aware it's available for test drives, I suspect will be spending less time in the Tesla reserved parking area at Bell Sq. It really is a beautiful car and the color combo is nice. I didn't have time go to the store and ask for the key to get a picture of the door open for those in the thread that would like that. When I have more time I'll get that picture. The Tesla store front is in the mall on the second floor, so it's a bit of a walk away from where the car is parked.

guest Grey Perf in Bellevue with Grey Interior Pics
Blurry_Eyed-
A helpful little bird sent me these pics from Bellevue, where you can clearly see the grey interior in the sunlight. It looks to be a very light putty-colored grey, perhaps as different in real life from the design studio images as the tan leather. It is a very different look than the same car with black interior that I saw in Chicago, but still quite gorgeous!
These images of "real life" interior/exterior combinations are *extremely* helpful to those of us still deciding on colors before finalizing, I find...I only wish there were more of them! I am dying to know what a Green looks like with grey perf wheels, for example...I bet it looks stunning, but is it as nice as the Grey or Black vehicles we have seen depicted with the grey wheels? Who knows!

1/1/2015
guest My son's preschool is right next to Solar City near the College of San Mateo, and yesterday I saw a white one with pano roof loaded with people pulling out as I was coming in, but no chance to take a picture. This morning I did a quick drive-by and spotted a silver performance with grey wheels and no pano. No front license plate.
I think what caught my attention both times was the door handles!
1/1/2015
guest I just saw a gray one going west down NE 4th in Bellevue, WA while I was eating outside at Potbelly.
I did the same thing again. I did a double-take. I saw the Model S coming, but since I'm so used to the image, it didn't really register in my mind until it was passing by, lol.
Gray is the color I finally locked in yesterday after waffling for a long time on color choice. It looks nice, but as I worried about, it's also kind of non-descript. Not that I'm looking to turn heads per se, but I think there's going to be a lot of grays, silvers, blacks, and whites around the east side of Puget Sound.
EDIT:
DOH, I just realized that this must have been the test drive car they have for the Bellevue store.
1/1/2015
guest Saw my first random Model S here in Irvine today around 12:45 going northbound on Culver just before the 5 freeway. I swear, I saw maybe 5% of the vehicle and said, is that an S and pulled out my phone to try and take a picture in time. I saw sig red and black rims and that was all I needed.

1/1/2015
guest Does the "F" in the VIN indicate a "Founders" car? I really hope so, because the car has a number of fit issues that I think are not unexpected on the Founders cars, but would be really disappointing in full production:On the plus side, the C-pillar trunk gap is pretty tight.
- The gap at the bottom of the rear door is larger than at the top.
- The gap under the rear door is larger than under the front door.
- The bottom of the trunk doesn't appear to be flush with the quarter panels or the bumper cover.
- And, the chrome below the windows is misaligned where the front door and rear door meet.

1/1/2015
guest JakeP, I'm glad you were able to get some nice interior pictures of the lighter interior. It really is a nice color choice!
1/1/2015
guest The grey leather almost looks white in the direct sun. Or is it camera over exposure?
1/1/2015
guest I think it may be e exposure. The silver car at Menlo Park a few weeks ago had grey leather, and it was not easy to mistake for white IMO.
1/1/2015
guest Is that Lacewood with Grey? This is what I am leaning towards. Thanks for the photos!
1/1/2015
guest Yes, that is Lacewood with the Grey. The seats don't look that white (I test drove the car) it is an overexposure by the camera. I thought the grey interior looked very nice with the exterior of the car and the black dash and other parts of the interior.
1/1/2015
guest I've seen a few on the road on Deer Creak Road near Tesla's Palo Alto headquarters, a few at/near the Menlo Park dealership, and a few on 880 near the Tesla factory. I don't really count those as "sightings."
But this morning, I saw a Sig Red driving down Edgewood Road in Redwood City. Must be my first customer car sighting.
1/1/2015
guest Saw my first "In the wild" Model-S sighting near my office back on August 31st but haven't had a chance to post till now.
It's the car featured in the AutoBlog article and while I don't prefer black cars it is really amazing to see it in person on the road (and with dust on it!)
Makes that deposit money from three years ago feel like it was all worth it.
I signed my paperwork on August 14th but haven't received any dates yet. All I know is that my car, with the 60kWh battery is slated to go into production in November.

1/1/2015
guest Sorry, just to be clear, is this VIN #1 -- Jason Calacanis' car?
1/1/2015
guest Looks like a founder's car to me, based on the license plate. (I think all the founders have 6USX... on their plates, right?)
1/1/2015
guest The plate on gjamrok's picture is 6USX021.
I don't see the P85, but the angle may be the reason.
It looks to be a solid (non-panoramic) roof.
1/1/2015
guest Yes, that is Sig Special #1... Not a "Founders'".
They gave him one of their batch of sequential CA plates... Not just for Founders' only...
- - - Updated - - -
Not quite... They had 30 or so of those sequential plates... More than enough to cover the California bound Founders' cars, plus a few extras for low numbered sig specials. Some of the Founders' cars went out of California, so obviously they didn't put CA plates on those cars.
Also, perhaps a couple got personalized plates transferred onto their S right as it came from the factory so they didn't need a generic plate.
1/1/2015
guest Do you have any high res photos? I am thinking Grey w/ lacewood and this is the first I have seen of it ....
1/1/2015
guest Don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way, but am I the only one thinking that publishing pictures of cars' VIN numbers is a little bit of an intrusion on the owners' privacy? i mean, for test drive vehicles and beta cars it was fun to keep track of, but for private owners it's a little different I think.
Just my two cents...
1/1/2015
guest I do not know if this has been covered because I do not have the patience to read 44 pages of posts, but has anyone been able to capture a photo of a truck load of Model S? That would be cool. I figure with the batching for geographic regions, TM probably puts them together in a truck to get them to the general region they are going.
1/1/2015
guest Historically Tesla has used enclosed trucks.
1/1/2015
guest I wonder if they're using something like these trucks to transport the cars. They're enclosed and can carry up to 6 cars.
1/1/2015
guest Trnsl8r, I'm inclined to agree with you, personally.
- - - Updated - - -
Hi grisnjam,
I'm one of the few people also getting grey (already committed to it, no going back now!)...However, personally, I would recommend against the Lacewood. I saw it, and to me it looks really cheap. I'm getting the Obece wood in matte, which I think compliments the grey leather beautifully. I went with that because the gloss Obeche looked really glossy & shiny, and one of the Tesla reps at the NYC dealership said that people we not going for it because it shows fingerprints really easily...Which rules out the Piano black as well, which is super glossy, and looks even cheaper than the Lacewood. I guess my second choice for a compliment to the grey interior would be the Carbon Fiber, but I also think that looks like it's trying too hard to look like a sports car, and doesn't have the elegance of a sedan. So there's my two cents.
Having said that, there are some decent photos of real life interior finishes in this thread here:

1/1/2015
guest I believe they may use open trucks, then detail cars before delivery in single car enclosed vans.
1/1/2015
guest Or just transport them on open trucks but covered with car covers ?
1/1/2015
guest You can wrap them in plastic wrap, but you don't want covers, or tarps on your cars. They flap in the wind and scratch pain really easily.
1/1/2015
guest And they don't keep the dirt out all that well either. You want to get to the race track with a car that doesn't require washing when you get there.
1/1/2015
guest Maybe. The VINs are publicly visible.
As are license plates for that matter, and some people do blank them out. I think that's a futile exercise myself. There are dozens of pictures of my car on the web, and the license plate is showing in pretty much all of them. (Strangely enough not in my avatar... the photo was taken on delivery day when I didn't have my plates yet!)
1/1/2015

guest Am at Menlo Park and they have a new "production line sample" car for test drives. Blue signature, tan interior (and has the little accessory shelf under the console!). Striking combination! Really liked it and not far off of what my Black/Tan will look like.
VIN is #1214. Seems higher than I expected but haven't been reading all the threads here yet.

1/1/2015
guest That looks identical to the car I drove in Newport Beach, although it didn't have the accessory cubby. I'm really liking that color combination.
It's in a handicapped spot! Was there a permit in the car???
1/1/2015
guest The blue car that was at the Palo Alto Get Amped event in August was #1201, so I think this range of VINs is reserved for demo cars or something. Interesting that they've built another blue. My mom was visiting from out of state this week, and I took her by the showroom yesterday so she could sit in the car.
1/1/2015
guest It's in the massive private parking lot that Tesla Menlo Park owns so, I don't think there's a chance that it'll get ticketed/towed.
Off topic here, but, MikeK, noticed in your signature that you are R 129 but are going for the 60 kWh pack:
You may just be the earliest 60 kWh delivery that Tesla may have to make if they produce all R cars before P; or, I wonder if you'll get sucked into the clutches of and batched with lowly Ps while some 85 kWh Ps may leapfrog over you?!
1/1/2015
guest I saw that one a week ago at Menlo Park, it is a beauty. But I was there to see the green in person. They had a green which was VIN1204, standard with textile interior. It was being shipped to an event that day, and I was told the event was in D.C. Seeing the green in person definitely sold me on the green as my color choice, so I was very glad to see it.
But I did see something troubling on 1204. The gap where the rear hatch meets the chrome was still quite large, with the chrome sticking up a good 5 cm. In fact the chrome protruded so far up on the driver's side that it had actually made contact with the rear hatch, and chipped the green paint off the underside of the hatch. It was a tiny patch, but still disturbing. I was really hoping after a thousand cars, this kind of manufacturing blip would have been eliminated. But the paint chip seemed to indicate the fitment is even worse than on previous cars, where I don't recall anyone seeing contact or paint chipping.
Idiotically, I failed to take a picture, or see if the issue was replicated on the passenger's side. I was in a big rush to go pick somebody up at the airport, what can I say! Maybe that car is in DC, and someone else can check it out.
1/1/2015
guest See my comment above. The 1200-series VINs seem to be demo cars produced out of sequence. I'm still not happy to hear about the problem you saw, but the cars are still earlier than the Sigs being delivered now.
1/1/2015
guest Thanks MikeK, I saw your comment but didn't realize the implication that these were produced out of sequence. That does sound promising, this may be a very old issue we are seeing. Unfortunately that means the cubby under the screen may not be a new production item either, and is instead perhaps an early trial. Some of the newer deliveries have indicated they have no cubby, if I have read correctly.

1/1/2015
guest Kind of like the dark wheels. Darker tail lights would be nice though.
1/1/2015
guest I generally don't like the dark rims, they just look dirty and soot covered to me. Though I did get the dark rims with my grey S, but that was one of the only combinations I thought that looked really good with dark rims, though now I'm wondering if I won't like it in the real world and end up regretting it.
1/1/2015
guest Yeah, I'm definitely ordering a set of the silvers
1/1/2015
guest Personal preference of course. I would have prefered black wheels instead of dark gray. I think it will still look good.
- - - Updated - - -
I'm going to figure out a way to wrap the chrome around the windows with something darker. Then I think it'll look much better. I'm still really happy with the dark wheels but have seen a Sig Red with silver wheels sitting right next to my car and also like that. Can't go wrong with either one but the dark wheels definitely look better on some colors more than others. Probably looks best on the pearl white performance version.

An alternative is PlastiDip ( Plasti Dip Protective Coating Products | Plasti Dip Protective Coating Products | Rubber Dip Coating ) which you can spray on (and peel off). Search for plastidip on YouTube and you will see all kinds of crazy things people do with this stuff. I plan to use it to black out the emblems and chrome badges.

Nice panel alignment, etc. Actually didn't think to check the VIN, not that I would post it anyway, but it was a Sig, not a Founders. Registration paperwork (taped in the windshield) said it was two days old!

guest No photo of this one, but I was driving home this evening on 101 South in San Mateo, and in my rear-view mirror I caught sight of the distinctive headlight/foglight layout of a Model S in my mirror. Shortly thereafter, a Signature Red Model S passed me. Didn't get a clear enough look to see if was a Performance or what, but it had a non-dealer license plate.
The car looked great at night.
1/1/2015
guest I wonder if a few of us are seeing the same car. On Saturday at about 11:30am I spotted a Signature Red S with 19" wheels and no plates at all -- just like the pic MikeK posted -- in Millbrae going from Millbrae Ave onto the 101 South on-ramp. Managed to pull up next to him (a gentlemen in his 40s possibly of Indian heritage, with his whole family in the car), honk, get his attention, and give him a thumbs-up, which he graciously accepted with a wave. Couldn't get a pic though.
Also, a Tesla employee lives two blocks over from me, as I saw beta #56 parked outside a house, charging via a cable running back into the garage under a closed door. FWIW it appears to be a Performance car, as it had dark wheels and a spoiler.
1/1/2015
guest Spotted another Sig Red (maybe the same as the one above; didn't notice the wheels) this morning driving on Hwy 84 away from Marsh Rd towards Willow Rd (the Facebook campus). No plates in the back so, must be a new customer delivery.
Btw, going past the Tesla Menlo store yesterday evening, spotted a Sig Red parked outside rather than the Blue and the Silver test drive cars.
