Random Model S sightings part 28

A Model S P85 I spotted in Istanbul / Turkey. It is crazy to think these people import these vehicles without Tesla being officially present with their own means. I wish I was one of those people (i.e. I wish I had that much money)

This isn't the only one either, I spotted one in the city a couple of months ago too but couldn't snap a photo. There also was a black one on sale on the internet. There are close to 10, maybe more Model S' in Istanbul. I envy, soon much.

I sighted a White Model S entering Rte 17 North vicinity Lake Street last week and yesterday a Black one on Rte. 17 North in Paramus. Most of the time the Super Chargers in Paramus NJ are very much in use in the evenings 2 or 3 cars charging. Once it appeared to be 4 charging.

Just got back from a drive on PCH 101 frpm Del Mar to Encinitas and saw the MOST Model S's (Five plus mine) since the Chapter meeting, the Hawthorne event and picking up my MS in Fremont.

BTW, does anyone else acknowledge other MS? I just give a friendly wave to oncoming owners.
  • 1/1/2015

I flash my lights and/or wave when I notice others, with probably less than 50% acknowledgement. The ones that do wave look quite happy! But then I don't know how many I'm NOT seeing.

I'm sure I would if the conditions were right. Unfortunately, all my sightings while driving mine have only lasted a few seconds as they were going the opposite direction usually on a divided highway. I spend that time making sure it's a Model S I'm seeing and trying to identify the color, not thinking about acknowledging them until it's too late. I haven't seen any of them acknowledge me either, albeit because I couldn't see the driver with the distance and lighting. My best opportunity for a wave was when I passed in front of a red one at an intersection, but it was downpouring and all I could make out of the driver was a very distorted blob.

I saw my sixth Model S today in the city of Lund in southern Sweden perhaps one or so minutes past 12 at noon. Due to a should we say rather demanding traffic situation I only got a short amount of eyes on Tesla. But it had Swedish plates, and I think it was black.
  • 1/1/2015

I regularly see about 4-5 Model S vehicles around Charotte. Been confusing two blacks thinking they were the same. Found out this evening they are definitely two black Model S 60s around here.

Was traveling down Carnel Road around 7 pm this evening when a black Model S with tan interior and fog lights pulled out behind me. Driver was a white male with dark hair and had a six year old (or so) boy in the passenger seat. Don't know if he noticed me waving. After Quail Hollow Road, we road tandem until we turned separate ways at Pineville-Matthews Road. Saw the plate and the battery size then, realizing this is a different black S60 than the one I regulary see on Park Road. I also see on typically at Carmel and Johnston road coming out of one of the businesses there.

Anyways, beautiful car! Now I see why everyone says its a travesty when a Model S doesn't have DRLs -- that's how I instantly knew it was a Model S behind be -- very distinctive!

Not exactly random, but I stumbled upon this gem as I walked past New York-New York in Las Vegas this evening.

Btw, if any owners decide to be on the Strip this week and happen to want to let me see the inside of a Tesla for the first time ever, I won't object!. Until the new service center opens in Charlotte, I can't even schedule a test drive

In LA, you'll see 4 or 5 Teslas even if you drive around for just 30-45 minutes. However, in the suburbs, you'll hardly ever see one! I just started seeing a white one down the street though!

Spied a red S heading west on the A303 between Sparkford (home of the famous Haynes Manuals) and Yeovilton air base at 6:55 this morning. I was heading east in the red Roadster.

Seeing several Ss a week now. A good sign.

II shouldn't even bother with this terrible picture, but it WAS dark and foggy out this morning. I got very excited when the Tesla that passed me had Alaska plates! This was on Roosevelt at about 6:45am this morning.

Spotted almost exactly the same spot as the one exactly two weeks ago, about 8 minutes earlier. Easily the same one.
First one I've seen that I could tell was dirty. Glad to know I'm not the only one who lets their Model S get dirty.

The lens is slightly wide, which is why the MS looks a bit short.
My sightings have a tendency to be a game of I-Spy. That's how I developed a strong Tesla sense, knowing that the window of opportunity is so short because they're always on the other side. It's a blessing and a curse, mostly a curse.

Perhaps the plate "XS11 ENT" translates to Excellent.

So after seeing my first Tesla in the wild several months ago, I saw two in two days.

The first came up behind me (very distinctive lights let me know) as I was traveling home from work. It was a beautiful red. I saw it next to Como Lake in St. Paul, MN and it followed me until I turned west - it continued to head north.
Then I saw one again the next day in Roseville - this one was brown.

I keep watching - nothing for the longest time and then two days in a row.

Black S heading east Ulmerton around 3:15. It had stock 19's and red rim gators. Looked very odd. The silver, red and black combo didn't suit it. Dark wheels would've been better.

There's a couple now in the office park complex where I work in the Bothell area (suburbs of Seattle). A black one that I often see parked already at his building, or occasionally we'll be driving through the complex at the same time. There's also one (or more) gray which I only ever see in motion and don't see where they're pulling in/out of so I'm not 100% sure it's the same one I periodically spot. Haven't been behind either of them to see their badges to confirm if either is Performance or Dual. But it's nice to be in good company within a few square blocks

Since I got my car back from having the stealth wrap applied and we've had a few sunny days I've noticed camera phones popping up from drivers behind me several times.
I know its long odds, but I always think "maybe I'll end up in the random sightings thread!"

Stuck in a traffic jam leading up to Newbury junction on M4 this morning, all I could do was look at the very fast Westbound carriageway, when I saw my first Model S in the wild - a mean looking red one, not going slowly and looking pretty large even on the motorway.

I wish I had my Model S and TACC this morning. Traffic was a bitch.

In the bay area, you see MS all over the place. But yesterday, an all-Black MS caught my eye. Going 92 East and we just came from San Mateo bridge. This was around 2pm. It might be Skilly's car but I'm not sure. Was going around 75-80mph so I wasn't able to snap a pic. All black, tinted with nice wheels. I couldn't tell if it was aftermarket or not but I know it's at least 21'.

Not really hard to find Model S in LA... However, still not that common to have them in front of me in the HOV lane.

    Tesla in the Everglades

I was driving my MC Red P85 eastbound on Tamiami Trail last Friday morning (Mar 6) around 6:45am on my way to a fly fishing trip out of Eveglades City. The last thing I expected to see was another MC Red heading west on the same road. Pretty remote for a Tesla sighting!

it was too quick and too foggy to risk taking any photos.

And for you fellow fly fishing addicts, it was successful day of snook fishing.

    Seen a Model S today! :D

I was so stoked today! Drove from Germany to the UK when it happened:

Cruising at 70kmh, being bored out of my mind (I was a bit early for the ferry and wanted to save fuel). About 100km before Dunkirk on the Belgian motorway a car I thought was a Jaguar at first drove by. I took a picture but I think the guy inside didn't quite share my exitement :p. Never thought I'd see one, as they are quite rare in Europe atm.

Just passed a dark (possibly gray, possibly green--it was quick, and dusk, and the car was a little dirty, and I was so shocked I didn't get a good look) Model S heading east on Buffalo Street, towards Route 13, in Ithaca. We were not driving ours. I say "shocked" because I thought I knew of the other two Model Ss in Ithaca and neither are that color. (One is white and one is signature red.) Wondering if this one was just passing through, or if there's a new Model S in town. We did not identify the badge on the back. (My wife was driving and literally locked the doors when we came to a stop at a light to prevent me from getting out and chasing it on foot.)

Here is a fun one I saw today (March 9 2015) at the Vacaville Supercharger. The two Tesla gentlemen driving it were on a recruiting trip to the nearby Travis AFB. (Primarily for service techs, but also some Model X ramp) Their trip will continue down the state visiting a few more Army, Navy and Airforce Bases.
  • 1/1/2015

What were they "recruiting" for? Do you mean they worked for Tesla and we're trying to recruit people to become Tesla employees?
  • 1/1/2015

I'd assume that yes they work for Tesla and work trying to get people to work for Tesla. There's a whole thread about this particular car here:

I was actually on the phone, wrapping up a call as we passed. If I hadn't been I think I probably would have demanded that she stop and would have hopped out to at least see what model of S it was. Since I was on the phone all I could do was gesticulate wildly, and by the time my wife realized I wasn't having a seizure and was trying to indicate that the car we were passing was a Model S she probably wouldn't have been able to recognize the badge in the rear view mirror anyway, even if she had tried (which she didn't.)
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
Yes, they worked for Tesla. Tesla hires lots of veterans and this was part of Tesla's recruiting efforts. They said they were mostly looking for service center techs, but also some for Model X ramp. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I saw 4 Teslas today. 2 red and 2 white. Every one of them was obvious to my existence. I flashed my headlights at 2 of them. No response. I'm never on the look out for Teslas, but when one is in my line of sight I always spot it. What the heck? I usually see 2-5 a week. So today was a good day.
  • 1/1/2015
    guest
Perhaps a stupid question, but, how do you "flash" the headlights on the S? I have it on auto and the DRLs are on...
  • 1/1/2015

You pull the turn signal stalk towards you and release it. Repeat as often as desired/needed. I also have my headlights on auto and DRL's on.
  • 1/1/2015

Thanks. Learn something "new" every day... I usually use the menus to turn it off manually, so I thought flashing the lights required using the touchscreen. (only took me a year and 4 months to be taught this.)

Spotted on Huntington Ave near Prudential Center, Back Bay, Boston. March 8, after midnight.

I flashed my lights at him (you can see the reflection on the road signs). He flashed back :)

Then he went into the Prudential Garage which has a Chargepoint in there. (I don't ever use that garage though, because they claim to tow anyone who charges for longer than 4 hours)

Just had my best sighting ever!

This was at 5pm, as I was leaving day 1 of Android certification training at the office of a contractor I work with. Next to I-75, south of Maple. Could this be the same black one I keep seeing in the area? This is the first one that I not only had the opportunity to take a non-dashcam picture, but that I could stare at as long as I desired (to avoid being creepy, not long). Mine is the one on the other side of the grass.

Over 20 months of ownership, RANDOM sightings of other Teslas in my neck of the woods averaged once a month until 3 or 4 months ago. Then, I started seeing them about once every couple of weeks. Over the last 4 days, I spotted 3 - all on A1A. Don't know if they were locals, visitors or just passing through, but boy, we're getting crowded around here.

Passed what may very well have been this car again this evening in Ithaca. I didn't get a much better look at it this time, but I think it is grey metallic. It was headed into downtown Ithaca, travelling north on Route 96B, at around 7:10 PM. We were again, not driving the Model S, and I again could not convince my wife to turn around so we could attempt to get a better look and see the badge.

My daughter may have seen this car last Friday, up near the Cornell campus. She called to tell me about it. She thought it was black, but wasn't sure. (The grey metallic is pretty dark.)

Saw a Grey P85D yesterday in Columbus, Ohio. I was in my Roadster driving in the right lane of the highway. The Model S passes me. I don' think the owner even knew I was in a Tesla too as they did not acknowledge me. Would have been fun to compare the acceleration of the cars.

Mobius. It's great for the price. Though, what sold me to it was its support for OTG connection on Android, so may not be worth it if you don't have an Android phone.

Last one for the month. This was on WB Walton, just east of Livernois. I only take that road when I need to carpool my brother. In this case, his Ford Explorer was in the shop since Wednesday and he finally got it back today. He wants a Tesla so he doesn't have to deal with all the maintenance.

Walking on my way to work this morning I spotted this white Model S in Victoria Street Potts Point, Sydney Australia.
Starting to see one or 2 a week, apart from my own, which is encouraging.

Driving along Carmel Valley Rd over the past week or two noticing two or three Tesla's each time... This is only a 7 mile stretch of road. Now we need our service center to open.

My wife and I were in LA for a benefit concert last week. It was the first time in a while that I had driven the I-405. We headed down to Cypress to get a tour of a young friend's workplace, so did about a 50-mile roundtrip on that infamous automotive pipeline. What made the traffic bearable was the near-constant stream of Model S's we saw, most cruising the HOV lane. At one point, it seemed like about every 50th car in the oncoming HOV lane was a Model S. Wow!

The highlight of the sightings (on Thursday April 2) was spying ggr's famously unique magenta Signature flashing by just south of LAX, probably on its way home!

I have no pictures, since I was driving; but it did happen, I promise.

they are super rare, though. A sighting of a Model S with aero wheels should count double!

P.S. Please, Elon, bring back the aerowheels ... good looking ones, this time!

Just saw a white 85 with Aero wheels from OH at the Somerset supercharger today. My daughter said she liked the "space age wheels". Also saw a brand new black P85D, very sharp!

Saw a white S with a set of aeros at the Brandon Supercharger awhile back. Yeah, ugly. Never did meet the owner to ask why they chose those wheels.

Its funny I thought this was the most bazar thread. Random sightings of Tesla's. I live in Seattle, not California and I see at least 12 Tesla's a day to and from work. I only work 13 miles from my house, I would be pretty busy taking pictures. That was until I recently took a couple of trips. I was in Pismo Beach California last month and saw only 1 Tesla on Highway 101 over a 3 day period. I just returned from NYC and over a 6 day period I saw 4. Hmmmm

I sometimes go weeks without seeing any, and there are a good number of us around... they must have gotten 6.3 with the new "stealth mode" feature

The data is over a year old but there were only 14 registered in Maine. I maybe see one per month.

Btrflyl8e saw a white one in St. Petersburg last Thursday while riding in my car. She definitely has the Tesla spidey-sense. I saw a black(ish) one on the Howard Frankland today on the way home. But sightings around here are still pretty rare.

I see them fairly regularly around Cambridge and Boston, maybe 1 or 2 a day. One day recently I saw 6 but that was unusual. The only time I take photos is when I see multiple cars, like this silver that parked behind me while my daughter and I had pizza at Armando's.

We usually flash lights or wave when driving. Yesterday a guy driving a Volt flashed me a peace sign. Is that a common "V for Volt" salute among Volt owners?

I had completely forgotten about seeing that white one! Bigger props to me for spotting it from the back seat!

I hope I finally am someone's random sighting in late June/early July when I make my big road trip to the Boston area! Seems a flurry are coming from MA lately
