Random Model S sightings part 29

Don't hold your breath. I've been driving around here for over two years and have never seen my car in a random sighting post.

Maybe we'll see you in a few months...

    Hey Peter,

It was a pleasant surprise when I saw myself just a couple of weeks after I got the car back in September - totally random and unexpected :)

Teslas are still a bit of a rarity around here... and at my workplace (where I've acquired a bit of notoriety for Serena) there are NO other EVs of ANY kind.

Walking out to my car to go home yesterday I nearly tripped over my jaw when I saw a blue MS 60 parked in the visitor spaces (albeit a bit crooked!).

WHA..??? I figured it must be a client or something and thought for sure I'd get it mentioned to me later, but so far the owner remains a mystery.

How Leilani Munter Uses Racing To Raise Environmental Awareness

    ncw_e_eff_oil_b1_300x300.jpg

    --
Leilani Munter positions herself behind the steering wheel of her sleek, silver-colored Tesla Model S and excitedly talks about the quietness, the performance and the pleasure she derives from driving her electric car. She switches on the heated seats on this cold winter day and immediately demonstrates her car's quick acceleration. A few minutes later she's parked in front of a coffee shop, and upon walking into the business she takes delight in the employees' reaction to the wording on her North Carolina license plate: EFF Oil.

"I had applied for EFF U Oil, but I got a letter from the DMV saying no," Munter said with a laugh. "Then I filed for EFF Oil and that one went through."

Gotta love Tesla-spotting on road trips. I was heading north on I-85 and saw a black (or blue :) ) Model S heading southbound just south of exit 203 near Oxford, NC, near the VA border. It was my rotation to drive, so no pic.

I saw a beautiful blue on I 15 yesterday from California. Snapped a photo, but I was driving. It is difficult to tell it is a tesla from the photo.

I saw the orange/copper Model S on Morena Blvd in San Diego this morning. They saw the lavender BGC going the other way. It was an instantaneous event, but shocking to me and I assume to the other driver. Belatedly waved...

Wasn't me. I'm in SoCal this week, but not San Diego. Maybe it was the burnt orange one owned by a Tesla paint shop employee.

I just passed a dark (green or black, I would guess) Model S on Highbridge / Route 92 between Manlius and Dewitt at almost exactly 2PM. I was heading Northwest and it was heading Southeast. I flashed my lights at the last second but did not see any acknowledgment.

    Saleen ST

Saleen ST spotted at Hawthorne Supercharger. Lots of Tesla design guys came out to take a look at it. It was being driven by an Automobile Magazine writer who is using it as part of an upcoming article.

My wife just managed to snap this photo of a gray P85 on Erie Blvd in Syracuse, stopped at the light across from Denny's. She's driving our P85D. The other Tesla had been behind her, but she maneuvered deftly in order to capture this photo. :)

I can't believe I saw another today. Usually I go months without seeing one. Saw one a few days back and now this pretty 60 on 610 North in Houston this afternoon.

Notice all the other cars on the road, then look at the Tesla - its a lonely little petunia isn't it???

I'm trying to think of a reasonable way to contribute to this thread, being someone who drives 50,000 miles a year on my ICE around northern California, mainly Silicon Valley, Central Valley and Monterey Bay. I first thought getting a GoPro that I never touch during driving and doing a monthly collage of every sighting in a way that never affects my attention to actual operation of the vehicle, but I keep thinking that would end up being Big Brotherish because it would amount to a partial but substantial record of where almost every regional Tesla frequents. Any fair ideas that doesn't give the whereabouts of every local owner?

It might be more accepted in Co to park in multiple spots. The outback near us is always packed, parking in multiple spots would certainly upset someone, so I just drop the family off at the door and park in the back 40 away from any and everything .

I'd never intentionally park like that... begging to get keyed. Between a tight spot and the risk of getting ding'd, or doing that and asking to get vandalized, I'll take my risk with dings.

Of course, if there's a 3rd option to park further away I'd take that... but that's not always an option depending on the location.

No pic 'cause I was on the phone but about 50 miles to Mitchell, SD from Murdo, on the Westbound side was a Sig Red (we were heading East in our Blue) about 10 minutes ago (3:30pm CDT, May 5th) forgot to train my wife (who is driving this leg) on how to flash the lights to say "hi". No pic, again, 'cause we were "orienting" ourselves and heading into Chicago from Aurora...

I see Model Esses regularly enough around here in the Northern VA & Rockville MD areas that I don't post here much any more...

However on Tuesday I was at work in Rockville turning from Halpine Rd. in to the small shopping center (where yummy Armands Pizza is located) when I saw a gray car out of the corner of my eye exiting the Congressional Plaza shopping center on the other side of Halpine. It was either a Lotus or a Roadster. I stole enough of an additional glance over my shoulder to recognize the Tesla Shield emblem on the front.

They are rare enough that I felt it warranted posting[1]. I gave him a thumbs up thru the open pano roof of my Blue Ess... he returned a headlight flash.

    Nice ride my man...

Saw a white P85 (might have been a D or a +, didn't get a chance to see it from the back, but noticed the CF spoiler) at the roundabout before Yas Tunnel going into Yas island (in Abu Dhabi, UAE). First Model S sighting (in the wild) in Abu Dhabi. Licence plate was a 3-digit (implying a wealthy individual, as, here in the UAE, the less numbers on the license plate, the higher the price for the license plate).

Just back from a long weekend in Bay Area and LA. Saw loads of MS in and around Palo Alto and Saratoga, and counted 8 during a five mile run through Beverly Hills at commuting time Monday morning.

I can see why some of the analysts/commentators might think Model S demand is getting saturated if they're looking around themselves in California, but there is still plenty of potential in other states.

So... We were charging at the Hookset, NH (North) SC this afternoon, enroute to our hotel in VT, arriving there a little earlier than we expected, we decided to make a run to ME for dinner and get some lobster, so we decided to Google some places, and decided on the Harbor Porches Restaurant at the Stage Neck Inn.

As we were heading out of the Inn to make the drive back to NH to Supercharge before we get checked into our hotel in VT, and I spotted a white Model S 85D in the parking lot.

No pano! That's a first for me. Both at the service center and in the wild. It kinda looked out of place. The white on the back of the roof kinda reminded of the intentional coverings on the Model X mule sightings. It just didn't look right. The rear window looked small. IMG_4825.JPG IMG_4826.JPG

Almost forgot, I had a random sighting yesterday morning while in the presence of a pack of Teslas. Going from Cars & Coffee to breakfast at cracker barrel I spotted a gray Model S two lanes over. All that was visible to me between other cars was the triangular badge on the front fender. Had that owner been paying attention, they would have spotted 5 in a row - Btrflyl8e's Blue Persuasion, FLDarren's Copperhead, my silver Lightning, Great Dane's white P85 and (didn't get his screen name) the other guy's brown Model S.

Something similar happened last month when I was behind Btrflyl8e (she's always in front). I spotted another one who was completely oblivious to us. Sadly, not everyone thinks that sightings are as special as we do.

Including my wife... She now claims I'm like a newbie winning Bingo for the first time, and that my arms are waving and my mouth is hollering. Well... she's exaggerating. A little, anyway. :)

But... by the time the hand appears above the pano, wouldn't you be too far away for anyone to actually recognize the message?

When I owned a Delorean, many of us from the East coast would make a bi-annual trip to a national Delorean car show, usually held in the mid-west somewhere. During one trip, I think we had 22 Deloreans all driving down the highway, convoy style. And we'd maintain formation when passing cars.. I usually had a rearward position, and the sight was amazing -- we looked like a 22 segment stainless steel snake weaving around slower traffic. I have a photo somewhere, I'll have to dig it out. For us, seeing a Delorean was an everyday experience, and for other folks seeing ONE on the road brought out all the cameras, cell phones, and thumbs up. But to see 20+ cars at once on the highway? Wow, that was special for even us.

That sounds awesome! I like to lead the pack because I love looking in any of my mirrors or rearview camera and seeing all those beautiful cat's eyes!

But I was the one that got the finger, not Rick. I was the one behind Btflyl8te. Rick was behind me.

Did cellphones have cameras back in the days of Delorean?

Considering I sold my Delorean last year, yes. And the trips I mention were in 2014, 2012, 2010, 2008, 2006, etc.. also, yes.

Cell phones had cameras long before smartphones hit the market.

So... still in our East Coast trip and the good folks of the NJEAA had invited me to participate in their EVangelism EVent at Sustainable Morristown Festival Earth! event today (Sunday)...

So, we're the California Model S in this event.

MPT had his Roadster in front...

However, on the way to the event, I went to Mass at St. Matthew the Apostle Church at noon (Randolph, NJ) and after the Mass was treated to spot a green Model S in the parking lot...

    and another head on view

Would've waited around, but had to make the EVent (which started at noon)...

So, drove into town and spotted a Blue one going the other direction on Speedwell (toward Randolph) as we headed into Morristown. I waved as the person did a doubletake...

Took a picture of a Red One (looks like a Service Loaner) at the Morristown Green...
