Show off your aftermarket wheels. part 1

Thanks to the OP for starting the thread. I've got a P85+ and am considering replacing the wheels to run non-staggered. There are almost no tire options in 265/35R21, and they are expensive. So my option is buy 2 new OEM 21" wheels or go aftermarket with 4 new wheels and sell my + set.

My wife doesn't like the black wheel look. Other than tirerack, where do you guys shop for wheels?

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110. $226/each. 245/35ZR21 and 285/30ZR21. Both are 27.7" diameter. Perfect for the MS. They'd be a little wider in the rear though. Not sure if they'll fit your wider P85+ rear wheels. It says min width 9.5" and I think the rear P85+ are only 9.0". I know it's only .5" difference but someone with more knowledge here might be able to comment if that's still ok to mount.

The rears are currently 265/35R21. I don't think 285/ will fit.

    T Sportline ? Al & Eds.

However, we think it's safe to assume Al & Eds in West Hollywood probably accessorizes more Teslas than any other retail outlet in the US. They are our #1 customer and co-op with us on many project cars which makes both entities seem one in the same.

T Sportline forged wheels are not rebranded Forgiato, nor are the wheels manufactured by Forgiato. We put much more precision engineering in our wheel. We care about weight and functionality, and how this applies to the Model S.

Each forged wheel is $1,250.00, which is priced very fair against the competition, yet to our knowledge NO CUSTOM FORGED WHEEL allows for Tesla factory center caps, factory lug nuts and factory tires.

Hope this clears up the smoke.

Those are Vorsteiners VF-101. Flow-forged (flow-form) wheels. Pretty light around at 18-20lb each. Not sure offset, but the fronts are 20 x 9 and rear are 20 x 10. Running 255/40/20 and 285/35/20 in front.

Stig O, thanks for the details and for posting your photos. Thanks to you I was able to sell my wife on the TSW Nurburgrind wheels which initially she didn't like initially. She only agreed because she feels they look great with the white car, so we changed the color to white as well, from blue, those two colors were our top options. It turns out blue was a potential bad choice for a Florida car as it would attract quite a bit of hit and potentially hurt range. Can't wait to take deliver.

Here's the 2pc wheel on the ADV web site. For some reason the red car is missing the concave design in the rear - they likely took it away in favor of the 265 size tire. Its the same wheel as on the Unplugged Performance car...mine is from the same company. ADV is on par with HRE in terms of fit and finish (high quality stuff!)

how long did you wait for your P zero?
  • Jan 10, 2015

The wheel build took 4 weeks so I was waiting on those with the tires coming in earlier...the supplier didn't note any issues with a wait time on the P Zeros at the time of the order. Really everything came pretty quick, considering its a custom ADV wheel - usually a build can take 5 to 6 weeks.

20/8.5 VMR V710 wheels to in the meantime, while I live in the pothole-ridden Bay Area. I commute a lot so I can't be getting flats all the time, like I just did. Hoping to go back to the 21" OEM Turbines if/when I move to a smoother area! (or if the cities here start rebuilding their streets). The center caps are missing-- the manufacturer forgot to include them, and I'll be going back to add them later. More pictures to come.

    Its WAY overstating the risk.

    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles...ne-maintenance

Is my warranty void using aftermarket parts?

No. An 'aftermarket' part is a part made by a company other than the vehicle manufacturer or the original equipment manufacturer. A 'recycled' part is a part that was made for and installed in a new vehicle by the manufacturer or the original equipment manufacturer, and later removed from the vehicle and made available for resale or reuse. Simply using an aftermarket or recycled part does not void your warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket or recycled part. Still, if it turns out that the aftermarket or recycled part was itself defective or wasn't installed correctly, and it causes damage to another part that is covered under the warranty, the manufacturer or dealer has the right to deny coverage for that part and charge you for any repairs. The FTC says the manufacturer or dealer must show that the aftermarket or recycled part caused the need for repairs before denying warranty coverage.

Here is an other picture of Nurburgering 9X20". I think tire dimension 255/35-20 which was the only choice in Micheline R2, looks mutch better than 245/40-20 as most people use. With ET 35 and 9" the wheel gets about 2cm wider, which also looks better.
I think Model S deserves at least 20" wheels summer and Winter.

@sickfox your car looks amazing! Love the yellow calipers :)

One question if you don't mind, I've been getting information on painting the bottom trim of my Model S, like you have, did the shop have to remove all the parts in order to paint them, and was that really labor intensive? Or did they paint them without removal? A shop I got a quote from says both bumpers have to be removed and both back doors have to be removed to access the bottom trim pieces in order to paint them. They're talking about a total of thirty one hours to complete the work, plus part expenses. Seems excessive in my opinion, not to mention invasive, that's why I'm inquiring. I would highly appreciate any details on what it took to get yours done.

As it just has to be said, every once in a while so people don't forget:

Thank you all for sharing these pictures!
They're a great help to imagine different looks of the car depending on color/rim/chrome combinations!

(Still thinking about what rim design to get)

Is that stock air suspension at low height? To my eye, it's perfect; any lower and it would look like the suspension broke and you'd be bouncing off the bump stops.

It is the low setting for air suspension. I've been contemplating whether or not to get the lowering links. I like the lowered look when parked but I don't want any damaged. Since my wife doesn't mess around with the settings and we have a separate driver profile, i can actually do it. We'll see....

And yes, this thread is awesome. I saved a lot of pics from this thread alone.

Here's my P85D on 20x9/20x10 +35 TSW Nurburgrind Mirror-Cut Face wheels. Tires are Continental DWS 245/40/20 front, 275/40/20 rear. Big thanks to Jason at GetYourWheels for his patience and service, he's top notch, highly recommended. Also, thanks to Stig O for the inspiration, I really wanted the Nurburgrind wheels because of their weight, price and look, however, the deal wasn't sealed until I saw a photo of Stig's car!

Nice. Any idea where they're made - specifically, China?

Not sure, definitely not in US as I had to wait over a month for them due to the port issues and lack of supply.
