I'd like to announce the unofficial grand opening party for the Woodland Hills Topanga Plaza store. SoCalGreenSpeed is having a gathering at the new Topanga Plaza store on Friday, November 16th from 6-8pm. We are then having dinner at Kate Mantilini's after. All SoCal Tesla owners (and fans) are welcome to join us in christening the new store and wishing Michael Sagaria (the store manager) great success.

    Awesome new!
However, holy Bah Humbug batman! So the dealers association is now suing the individuals on the Board that issues dealer licenses for issuing Tesla a dealer license in December??!
  • Jan 4, 2013
    Doug_G
Next thing you know they'll sue the judge for ruling against them!
  • Jan 4, 2013
    dsm363
If that doesn't prove they are simply a monopoly interested in protecting only themselves then nothing will. They have no interest in protecting consumers which is their main excuse.
  • Jan 4, 2013
    mitch672
Yes, sueing the board members reeks of desperation. They don't call us "m*******s" for no reason. If I where on the board I would kindly ask the MA Autodealers to drop their frivolous lawsuit, or they could find future approvals denied for some of their existing dealers car stealerships in Natick.

Tesla Motors Wins Lawsuit Against Massachusetts State Automobile Dealers

    cinergi
Good grief. Tesla is technically abiding by the law here. The selectmen did nothing wrong. In fact, they'd have done wrong if they did NOT grant the license.
If you're worried about franchise issues, then amend the law to say it's OK to direct-sell if there's no franchise capabilities. Focus on the issue at hand. *shrug*
  • Jan 5, 2013
    Robert.Boston
My belief is that MSADA is suing the individual selectmen to instill fear into regulators elsewhere. At the meeting in Natick where the Class 1 license was approved, I remember clearly one of the selectmen asking if their action opened them up for legal action; their (very competent) legal counsel told them "no." Now replay that moment, in a different town two years from now: the town's counsel will have to say, "yes, but the suit was eventually dismissed." That answer will have a chilling effect on the willingness of individual selectmen to vote against MSADA (or other states' auto dealers).

In short, MSADA is abusing the legal system.
  • Jan 5, 2013
    cinergi
Hrm, I remember hearing someone saying yes, someone might try, but there'll be no grounds. But yeah -- without someone of the ilk of Natick's chairman, that would have sealed the fate. People were starting to get nervous before he reigned it in.

Does anybody have info on the new DC store that's opening in Tyson's Corner? Estimated opening date? Will this replace the downtown store on K St?
  • Mar 14, 2013
    brismyth
I was at the K street store a few weeks ago and they said they were hiring additional staff for the Tyson's Corner store, so not a replacement at least from their perspective. I don't think Tesla is looking to pull back on any stores. I also think they gave a timeframe and it was imminent, but I honestly don't remember.

New Santana Row store opening on April 3rd

I received this email invitation earlier today. I'm in SoCal that week, so can't attend, but I will have to go check it out when I get back. It is a bigger store, so I wonder if they will have more than one car on display? Maybe a Model X?

Found out today that the store in Tyson's Corner will be on level 2 next to Sephora and the Microsoft Store. I couldn't see much behind the construction walls, but from what I could see, it doesn't look close to being ready at all. Also, mall concierge has no time frame for the opening. A section of the garage is complete though and has been empty for a while.

Brea Mall Tesla Store under construction

Mall personnel mentioned that the construction facade appeared over the April 6 - 7 weekend. As shown, it's next to the west side of the Bose store and about 100 steps from the Apple Store. With See's Candies and Godiva Chocolates on the same level and concourse from Nordstrom, Tesla Motors is adding eye candy for the Brea Mall shopper!

Fashion Valley coming soon in San Diego? It is listed as a separate "office location" on the Tesla website job search section...
  • Apr 21, 2013
    mcornwell
Fashion Valley was where the store was originally planned before they decided to put it in University Town Center, but the Taleo site still has it as one of their choices in their drop-down menu...
  • Apr 22, 2013
    JohnQ
Unless Tesla deactivates the location in their Taleo ATS it will continue to show up in their drop down menu. It's more useful to show locations by city rather than site but Tesla is on the business edition rather than the enterprise edition and I don't know what degree of flexibility they have. Now that they've grown, and given the number of locations they now have, they really should make their geographic search more hierarchical by selecting country first. Again don't know if that's available on the business edition.

Sorry for more information than you probably want; I run recruitment for a multi-national.

    That is a good question.

The store and charging area is at the Plaza. It is between the big JCPenney and Neiman Marcus stores. The charging spaces are at ground level (adj. parking garage), opposite the main entrance (with the Rite Aid store sign). The store is on the first level, making a left at the Forever 21 store. You can't miss it. (There is also the Cafes food court right above, 2nd floor)

This has most likely been posted prior (it's a dated video), but, it's really the best explanation I've seen for George B.'s vision for the Tesla stores, such an excellent interview -- really provides his vision for how the Tesla Store model will be on the vanguard of the industry, similar to what he did for Apple's stores...

Was thinking the same. He wasn't on the earnings call nor in any of the media events that Elon's been orchestrating. I hope GeorgeB's doing well and is busy with something major such as opening up China as a market for Tesla. He has apparently not visited these forums since 04/29 - that's very unlike the GeorgeB we know:

New HPWC charge location almost ready

June 7 - The Brea Mall HPWC was installed this week with a single NEMA 14-50 on the Tesla wall. One more cutoff switch (not shown) hasn't been connected. Maybe a Roadster charge station is planned. Notice the special lighting to showcase the vehicles that are parked here. This is located on the north side of the mall next to the east side of JC Penney. The food court door is very close to this location. A NO OVERNIGHT PARKING sign is nearby.

    BMOXonNCUAA-8vD.jpg

The Simon Mall Concierge said the Tesla Store should open about the 15th of June. Please double check before making any plans to visit.

June 12 update at the Brea Mall. Four NEMA 14-50 outlets join two HPWC in the parking lot. But look at what Penske has parked a short walk from the Tesla Store. That Audi looks a lot like Model S.

    BMnpF9VCYAEACV3.jpg BMnrUV5CAAAkRel.jpg

These Kiddie Kruzzers need a Tesla logo to encourage the riders and pushers to buy Tesla! Don't try charging the strollers at the HPWC and keep the kids from sticking objects into those NEMA 14-50's.

A nice honor for Tesla stores in Europe, another prestigious award, but, this time for it's retailing efforts through its stores.

Tesla is one of the "2013 winners of the fourth annual
Automotive News Europe/Automotive Intelligence Center L.E.A.D.E.R. awards. L.E.A.D.E.R. stands for Leaders in European Automotive Development, Excellence, and Research. The awards recognize one top achievement each for innovation in product development and environmental technology, supplier technology and retailing... Tesla, which has a fully owned dealership network in Europe, is getting this year's award for automotive retailing because of its innovative approach for distributing and servicing its full-electric supercars."?

10 AM Friday, and the doors slid open as if the new Brea Mall Tesla Store had been in business for years. Total professionalism with perfect staffing and displays. The same quality exists in Model S, so why not expect a store opening to occur without a hitch. Here is today's view to finish this photo spread that started on April 9, 2013. And where is George? It was nice to see the same enthusiastic and knowledgeable reps in Europe as well. They were very excited to hear about my experiences with the Model S.

I just went on a test drive at the Brea facility. Love it. My Wife has a 70 mile commute daily and her V6 accord isn't the best on gas (fill up weekly). Costs approx $300 a month for gas. So We are seriously considering getting the Model S 60 towards the end of the year. We were looking at the Chevy Volt, Passat TDi, as well as the Camry Hybrid. She drove the Model S and she was sold.

It's the power and appeal of the brand, I suppose, although Elon doesn't think much of the concept of branding. Sounds like how folks line up to strike a pose next to the thumbs-up sign at the Facebook HQ in Menlo Park, CA.

Went to the Burlingame store at around 9 pm on Tuesday while waiting for my wife to arrive at the nearby Millbrae BART station. There are 4 HPWCs up front, one of which is apparently not working. A fifth pole has been setup with cabling but no HPWC yet. There were 3 customer / loaner MS already charging so, I couldn't get some juice.

Went to Austin store today. Nice people. With screwy laws here in Texas, test drives are very hard to come by. Have one scheduled for next Friday. Insane that you have to wait a week to test drive a $100K car, but hey, Texas Auto Dealers are a powerful lobby (hope that changes soon).

    Looking to offset 911 4s, Audi S5 with Tesla S85...lot's of S's :D

Will order after test drive if power is what I am hoping.

    Toronto store

On a little bit of a breather from the heat of Texas and visited the Toronto store today. Shawn and Rory(?) were very pleasant and our discussion was very two-way once they found out I had 20,000km on a Model S of my own. I showed them the phone app - they had not seen one in action before, and my wife was actually driving it in Texas on 75 (incidentally, doing 75) at the time, so they got real-time information. They asked me lots of range questions and I asked them about the Waco supercharger (boy, do I have a one track mind). As expected, they could not give me any information regarding it. I wanted to buy a polo, but they were out of my size, so I got the coffee mug (ceramic) instead. It was fun: the typical thing a guy does when away at a conference and not having to lug five family members around to their five favorite places. Had some tim-bits and a double-double too - a box of smarties in my bag and I swear I saw a guy who looked just like me wearing my clothes smoking a Cohiba Siglo-II.

Was surprised to see a couple of familiar faces - Neil Joseph (of Florida, then Menlo Park and then, Model S Delivery Program Management fame) passed through quickly on his way from/to the SFO airport and John Scalmanini, my Delivery Specialist at the factory back in January; he moved to the Burlingame store recently from Fremont to help get this store up and running. Had a good chat with John S.

John also mentioned that, as Menlo Park winds down, the Palo Alto store/service center is coming up quickly near El Camino Real and Arastradero in place of the Volvo dealership there (which is moving to where Fisker was, alongside the McLaren dealership)! There are also tentative plans for a San Francisco facility in the not too distant a future!

Juiced up briefly from one of the HPWCs out front with my poor single charger (the only regret that I have about my Model S purchase is not getting the twin chargers but, that's another story) despite these HPWCs now operating at the full 80A.

Spotted the Supercharger inside the service area. John mentioned that the initial plans were to place that Supercharger out front in the parking area but, it apparently would have cost serious $$$ to route the cables there. So, for now, it's sitting inside the service area and is accessible during service hours. The SC is not operational yet but, will be soon apparently.

Shout out to the Austin crew. Did an amazing job during my visit and drive today. Ended up ordering P85 (from Colorado rep on phone) and they made it fun.

These guys are good! Thumbs way up.

Perhaps a bit excessive, but I like this idea (especially for areas with a high volumes of Model S). I wonder if this is this going to become common at new service centers? And, since they have limited availability (store hours), will Tesla put them on the supercharger map?

So today I went to my local store and did a test drive. It was very cool. I was struck by how much more the car is like a hi-tech gadget than a luxury vehicle.

One note that I think is very important though. If they want women to buy this car, they need to have some female workers in the store. That would be another good way for Tesla to break the mold of the traditional dealership model. I should note that the sales guy there (who was great in general) asked me if I was going to be driving the car too on the test drive (in addition to my boyfriend that is).

This while I'm the one who has been trolling the TMC forums for a year and talking about this company non-stop for five years.

I took my first test drive in 2012. The tesla employee who helped us was female. She was also the store manager.

I observed lots of people asking for brochures last night, they were all told to go to the web site. The least they can do is give purchasers a nice brochure or something to have on the coffee table.

I ran out of brochures last weeks and was told by the Minneapolis SC that Tesla no longer prints them.

FWIW, our Menlo Park store manager (at time of our order in Feb. 2013) was female.

They have women in the Bellevue and Seattle stores. Totally unscientific, but I think the gender balance is fine in both of those locations.

Found the new Palo Alto store (service center too?). This used to be the Volvo dealer and next to it was a sort of joint venture of a Mclaren dealer and Fisker/used car Dealer. When Fisker closed, it became just used cars and Mclaren stayed. Then I saw Volvo moved into the old Fisker/used car location next to Mclaren. Now Tesla is taking the old Volvo building. So its Mclaren, Volvo, then Tesla. Mclaren, as you can see in the background, is on El Camino and Arastradero. I think its a great spot. Volvo=safety and Mclaren=performance.... Tesla=everything (ok, almost)

I have it on good authority that the new Palo Alto Service Center will 'go live' tomorrow Monday 10/7.

I know the new Service Manager, who had 15 years experience with Lexus (service tech, then service writer, finally service manager) who is making the leap to TM. I actually recommended him to the HR folks and Jerome (wrote them a letter). He will be an incredible asset to the organization. I plan to make the trek from the East Bay to Palo Alto when I need service.

I got an email from Tesla saying the Model X design prototype will be at the Palo Alto location on Sat 12th, and Sun 13th for their grand opening weekend.

Was also impressed when Palo Alto service called me on Monday informing me they were now open (and Menlo Park was closed) and had received parts for the factory pano roof noise fix. I originally scheduled that fix with Menlo Park, so was cool to see Tesla service taking a proactive role, instead of me calling them.

The new PA SC manager has 15+ years of auto experience first as a service tech, then service writer, then service manager at a Bay Area Lexus dealership. I wrote a recommendation for him to TM HR and Jerome (and he got a personal interview with Jerome for the position). He will really be great for the (high profile) SC near the corp offices.

Pics of the grand opening this weekend, including showcase of the Model X prototype. Some people wondered if it's a new one, but no, still the only one around (they repainted it white) that has been traveling all over the world.

And yes, at this Palo Alto location is a showroom/sales office and a service center.
