jstepy Got my Vin today 63959 (updated in the spreadsheet) as well as a call from my DS... He was just calling to know about holiday travel plans etc. so he knows what days would not work for delivery. He says they aren't able to give anything more specific then December at this time. He said he'd probably be in touch in about two weeks with a firm date.
I will keep you posted.

What fraction of VIN's do we think are missing in the VIN sequence, <1%, 1%, 5%, etc?
Nov 3, 2014
vin5xxx Yes 62579 for a P85D. I know this is quite a bit lower than any others posted so far. When I spoke to my DS they informed me I was quite high on the list.
I've added my data into row 80 on the spreadsheet as I was not able to insert a row above row 2. It told me I am not allowed to edit the spreadsheet.

Vger Perhaps. I was thinking that they may have reserved blocks of consecutive VINs for the P85D. Big assumption, I recognize.
- - - Updated - - -
Did you defer to get the 2015 "model year"? Or were you constrained to take Jan delivery? When did you order?
Nov 4, 2014
randompersonx It seems most likely that at the beginning of production, they would do a mix of P85D with the rest of Model S as they are dialing down their assembly process, (eg: 62xxx VIN), but by 63xxx and 64xxx I would assume that it's mostly P85D's for a more efficient assembly line.
Im sure there was also a specific large surge of orders of P85D with December promised delivery dates.

MarcG Quick update here: I finally got a DS assigned to me today. Didn't find out until I called Tesla HQ to ask them a question.
Anyway, I just spoke to my DS and he says to expect a delivery date of early- to mid-December. Nothing more specific until production starts.
For those of you in the US who already have a scheduled delivery date (Andrew, JBrown4390, randompersonx, Chuck, cottonwood) where did you get that date from?
Nov 4, 2014
Chuck P85D my DS called me yesterday out of the blue to schedule it.
of course he said subject to change, but he's about 80% sure it's accurate.
Nov 4, 2014

Nov 4, 2014

Nov 4, 2014
LetsGoFast The figure I've seen quoted in the investment rags for first phase was a theoretical improvement to 1,000 units per week for the new assembly line. I do not think that subsequent guidance has clarified if they have reached that or not. The 3,000 cars per week number often quoted is for after the new paint facility and the new body line in 2015.
Nov 4, 2014
andrewket Per Tesla's VIN decode document hosted at the nhtsa, the 10th digit is the model year, where E=2014, and F=2015. As we continue tracking P85D VINs, be on the lookout for5YJSA1H21FFP .....

Nov 4, 2014
randompersonx I was given the date from the Delivery Specialist, but was warned that the date was certainly changeable at this point, and not to bank on that exact date.
Also, I just logged in to MyTesla and saw they moved my delivery from Dania Beach to West Palm Beach ... I changed it back -- wondering if that was a total fluke, or if they were trying to get me to take it there to make it easier for their shipping.
Nov 5, 2014
andrewket Possibly. I think we're in for a massive Q4 push. I really hope quality does not suffer as a result.
Nov 5, 2014
lolachampcar I too am curious for the first 2015 ViNs. Tesla can state that the model year makes no difference but the secondary market does respond better to a year newer car using the classical 2013 versus 2014 MY designation. I am working towards an F ViN.
WRT production, I would think that Tesla would stack deliveries of highly optioned high margin PDs in December at the expense of about everything else simply to boost overall margins for the year. ViN deltas may be high but the number of PDs does not equal the delta so it is highly likely they could bang out all those on the speed sheet and more.
As for quality, Tesla has a proven track record of poor quality at the end of the quarter. I had two people I brought to the party have issues with end of quarter cars; one was bad. True to Tesla's nature, they eventually made everything right and the customer has been smiling ever since but I think it is reasonable to expect a larger than normal number of quality issues with this push combined with the little things Tesla will learn when they go to produce a bunch of PDs for the first time.
Nov 5, 2014
MarcG Congrats! I live in the city too but will pick mine up at San Rafael. Let's go drag racing when we get our P85D ;-) j/k. But would be interested in meeting up at some point to compare notes. Good luck with the wait!

Nov 5, 2014
Chuck P85D in general i agree, but most of our cars are going to be made the last week of November - first week December. that's not exactly "end of the quarter".
also, being the flagship alpha-model it is, i think there will be a purposeful effort to NOT skimp on quality.
btw - how do robots know it's Friday? or the end of the quarter?

Nov 5, 2014
wk057 Yes, very cool.
And thanks.
I find it interesting that my date is 10 days ahead of the next best on that sheet... now I'm wondering why that is...not complaining, just wondering.

Nov 5, 2014
andrewket We've got duplicate VINs here... 64713. rms427 and ottawa? Who is going to be unhappy?

Nov 5, 2014
andrewket It looks like you were able to update the doc. Interesting; you're 64184 on the east coast with a very early delivery. I note that you selected a black interior. Given the notice that went out that Tan/Grey interior cars would be delayed maybe by a week or two, your delivery date which implies an EOL week of the 3rd week of November, I think gives us a datapoint that suggests that the P85Ds may not be produced in VIN order. We know Tesla batches and that absolute VIN order is not adhered to, but now it appears there may be a production "window" upwards of 1k VINs. I would not be surprised if we start seeing other black interior cars with the first week of December deliveries.
Nov 5, 2014
wk057 Good point. I pretty much built almost the same car as the one I have (the one I am trading). I also picked the original white alcantara instead of black since I actually really like the look of my existing car.
When I spoke to my DS she actually seemed confident that 12/5 was a worst case and it could potentially be earlier. This is also the tone of the email I received, quoted below, although this email seems like a prefab message mostly.
So, we'll see how it goes and I'll post any updates as needed.

Nov 5, 2014
andrewket Congrats to those of you who ordered brown or green P85Ds.. you're going to have the only ones. Brown and green have been discontinued, along with black roof, and the P85.
Nov 5, 2014
Urtie Really? Maybe the rumored new paint facility is the reason for this? Is an interesting coincidence otherwise.
Nov 5, 2014
Cottonwood The 60D has also been discontinued, and the D option for the 85 went up from $4k to $5k.
Nov 5, 2014
andrewket Per the shareholder letter, reducing options to streamline production.
Nov 5, 2014
EarlyAdopter P85 only available as a D now, too.
Again, reducing options to streamline production, and no doubt help get the most dollars out of each constrained production slot they can.
Nov 5, 2014
Urtie I wonder if the browns and greens will get to keep their choice..
Nov 5, 2014
MarcG Just got a call from my DS as well. He's looking at a 12/8-12/10 production completion date for my P85D but nothing more specific than that.
I told him about your schedule and according to him, if your delivery date is relatively accurate, your P85D should be entering production in mid-November.
As for VIN sequencing, he seemed to think that they don't necessarily produce them in order, so expect to see later VINs produced earlier and vice-versa.
Looking forward to seeing "entered production dates" appear on the Google doc! Thanks again Andrew for maintaining it.
Nov 5, 2014
majorlance Just added my P85D order to the spreadsheet. Looks like three of us are taking delivery in Rockville, MD!

Nov 5, 2014
jp97070 Not sure if the spreadsheet accounts for folks who had a P85 on order when the P85D was announced and whether it will affect delivery dates. I had P85 on order 9/17 confirmed and then P85D came out and confirmed 10/15 (maybe 14) and reconfirmed 10/24. I was told I would not be put back in line if I switched to a D.

DPDsModelS MarcG 3 Questions:
1- Is the spreadsheet correct in that you have a 12/8/2014 delivery date scheduled?
2- If so, who did you sleep with?
3- Do you think I have any chance with them?

Nov 6, 2014
andrewket ROFL.
Nov 6, 2014
MarcG HAHA you're funny. I mentioned in the spreadsheet that my DS gave me an *estimated* delivery of the 12/8 week's first half.
Here's the sequence of events that I went through:
10/27 - ordered 85D online after much deliberation
10/28 - test-drove 85 and P85 with OA in Corte Madera store (no sleeping with anyone yet)
10/29 - confirmed order for P85D, delivery estimate at Fremont factory showed "Late-December"
10/30 - called OA to plead for a first-half December delivery (consider that the "sleeping with someone" part) to coordinate with my vacation time
10/31 - changed to San Rafael service center delivery per OA's recommendation (he then made some calls to request early-December)
11/01 - received VIN ending in 63084, deliver estimate changed to "December"
11/03 - spoke to inside delivery team member, got late-Nov/early-Dec production timeframe
11/04 - delivery specialist assigned to me, had a good conversation about scheduling, estimated first half of December delivery
11/05 - DS looked further into production schedule, provided 12/8-12/10 delivery date
Let me know if you need more details than that. Good luck "sleeping around"!
Nov 6, 2014
DPDsModelS I had to promise not to sleep with my wife in order to spend $130k of "our $" on the D. So I am really looking for some action!
Seriously though, I had a P85 on order since September and switched to the P85D before you. Yet I am in late December. For certain, you are saving 10+ days by picking up locally but you still seem to have some sway with your OA. I guess I am just a bit jealous!
Hopefully, I will get lucky in delivery dates since I am not too lucky in love.

Nov 7, 2014
reuted Looks like we have 63779. Hope it shows up before the holidays. However, if it takes extra time to get it right that is just fine.
Nov 7, 2014
andrewket The earlier in December the better for me. Already sold the P85+, and we're taking a road trip down to Florida the last third of the month and won't be back until January. Tesla wants the revenue recognition and I want the tax credit for 2014 not to mention I'd prefer to take the Tesla on the road trip, so here's hoping they stay on schedule. My tentative delivery of 12/18 is cutting it close.
Nov 7, 2014
andrewket Dallas- Congrats on your P85D order. I noticed that your entry on the P85D spreadsheet is not complete. Perhaps you did not notice that it scrolls to the right? There are columns for interior color and a bunch of other items. If you get a chance, would you please complete it? It's throwing off the summary page a bit. I tried to send you a PM instead of posting here, but it appears you're either blocking PMs or are too new to the forum.
Thanks.
Nov 7, 2014
3s-a-charm Did you get someone in Calgary to install yours? Can you pass on any recommendations? I'm going to drywall/insulate/heat my garage before adding on the wall charger but that should be coming soon.
Nov 7, 2014
randompersonx It's much easier, neater, and cheaper to add the electrical work before doing the drywall/insulation. Highly suggest you do that work first.
Nov 7, 2014
MarcG That's exciting! So production should start in mid-November. If NorCal-bound P85D cars are also part of this initial production batch, we could see some deliveries late this month (day-dreaming here :love

gpetti The electrician I used was pretty unsatisfactory - I think I documented my troubles in a thread on HPWC which is why I made the comment. PM me if you want to discuss.
Nov 8, 2014
gg_got_a_tesla Just added an entry for myself to the spreadsheet after the crazy decision this morning to upgrade from 85D to P85D to keep Green.
@andrewket, looks like I'm the first to get Textile seats (!!) in a P85D, atleast from this group. Can you please add that option to the Seats column? Thanks!
Nov 8, 2014
andrewket Congrats, and it will be done in a sec. I didn't even know that was an option.
Nov 8, 2014
breser It wasn't until they redid the order form with colors for the next gen seats.
Nov 8, 2014
andrewket It was after that. When Tan and Grey became an option, there was a 3x3 matrix: Black, Tan and Grey, on the x, and Next Gen, Performance, and Nappa on the y. Now textile is an option on the far left, and performance is gone. It's a 3x2 matrix. I think the change happened when the P85, 60D, green and brown were discontinued.
Spreadsheet updated.
Interesting data fact: With 105 cars reporting, SILVER is the least common color with 1.9%. Green is 3.8%, and brown is 2.9%. It's possible the color distribution on P85Ds is different than the overall Model S population, but it's still interesting that Tesla decided to drop green and brown and not silver.
Nov 8, 2014
breser Maybe they decided to allow it to let people with discontinued options that needed to switch to a P85D to keep them to not pay as much and in the process just decided to allow it for everyone.
Yeah I noticed this. Find it hard to believe that Silver is that unpopular. Might just be an anomaly of the people on this forum. (Otherwise: Mutter about them discontinuing green).

Firewired 64840 ordered on 11/04
Nov 8, 2014
andrewket Ordered 11/4 and have a vin by 11/8? Alrighty then.
Nov 8, 2014
MarcG FYI, when I was playing around with the configurator during the last week of October, textile seats were definitely an option to the left of the 3x3 matrix, so there were 10 seat choices (!) for the P85D. I think textile seats became an option when they dropped the silly requirements for 21" wheels and tech/air on or around 10/24.
- - - Updated - - -
Yep they are definitely trying to get as many P85Ds delivered as possible before the end of the year. (BTW I ordered 10/27, confirmed 10/29, and got a VIN 11/01 - looks like most orders that were placed in October got their VINs during the first couple of days of November).
Nov 8, 2014
Firewired Yes, I was really surprised and pleased to check the Tesla site tonight and see the VIN pop up.
Even more impressive than that is the guy above me on the Google doc (rossh) who ordered on 11/07 and has his VIN (64984)?

lolachampcar The sales tax savings of trading the 12C will almost completely offset the difference between what I paid for the 12C and Manheim auction numbers for the car. Put differently, bring on the D as the 12C is cheaper to own/operate than getting a rental!

- - - Updated - - -
Yeah, spill the beans.
Nov 11, 2014
lolachampcar Tesla is unable to provide information on the "delete air" option. I interpret this to mean that marketing dumped the delete air option on engineering and now engineering must make it happen. I suspect it will be a lot like early MS shipments when, if you ordered coil, you were looking at a three to four month delay in getting your car.
I'm comfortable with the air option because (1) I can always put coil springs on it and (2) when the head of chassis engineering tells me I will not be disappointed, I believe him
