SmartElectric Good price for a P85 with 21's!
BTW
Got my CPO S85 yesterday and was impressed to get new tires, brakes and UMC.
We took a 400km road trip today and supercharged in Barrie on the way back.
Brilliant car! I wondered if I would want/need a P85, but no, the S85 thrust is grin inducing and a thrill!
Jun 27, 2015
KJD Nice work on the web site. It looks like you have all the new codes figured out now.
Jun 27, 2015
HankLloydRight Yeah, it took a few hours to figure it out.. it wasn't easy, but I got it done. thanks. I'm a stickler for accurate data.
Jun 27, 2015
smilepak I hope by the time my 70D is up, I can buy a CPO 85D.

Jun 28, 2015
TomServo Descriptions are skimpy on this batch of new 60's but will the new owner have to spend $3K to enable AP and the another $2500 for the Supercharger?
is that correct?
Jun 28, 2015
BoerumHill I don't think that is the case. I'm not following the logic of why if the Tesla preowned website lists auto and SC as options you presume they're not already activated?
Put in these two filters: "S60 Autopilot." Now compare the prices of those 35 inventory vehicles to the 9 that come up when the filters are set to "CPO S60."
ETA: OK, I think I see what you are saying. If you set the filters to "Inventory S60 N (autopilot)" we have 6 preowned cars. 3 are early VIN, but 3 are VINs in the 7XXXX. I would say those three have the capability but you would have to pay for it.
Jun 28, 2015
No2DinosaurFuel For those looking at the inventory S60. Some do not have supercharging so you will have to pay $2K for the upgrade to supercharging if you are going to get the inventory S60. All CPO S60 has supercharging as far as I know. Just wanted to make sure people know. Most will assume all tesla have supercharging, but some of these inventory S60 do not.
Jun 28, 2015
BoerumHill REALLY good post. Sorting by price I found at least 5-6 inventory S60s on the low end without SC.
Jun 28, 2015
Fiver Hey Hank, I thinking about this, and was wondering if the inventory cars perhaps should be in their own section like the Canada cars are. They have several differentiating features that would qualify them to be broken out. Once sold they could go in the general "sold" section. It's getting cluttered in the main for sale section between Inventory, CPO, and D's (which many people are waiting on). I personally would consider D's in their own section as well since that's what I'm waiting on, but that may be asking a lot.
Thoughts?
Jun 28, 2015
HankLloydRight I considered that too, but I think more people are looking for cars at good prices and want to see them listed together. It is a "consolidator" after all.
It is just two clicks to filter on CPO vs. Inventory cars, so I think that's the best of both worlds for people that want to see them listed together or separately.
As I said I am working on a V2 that should be done in about a week, which should help people looking for specific configurations.
Jun 28, 2015
BoerumHill Thanks, Hank!
Jun 28, 2015
tga Thanks, this is an awesome tool. One request for V2 - could you consider de-coupling roof type and 3rd row seats? I don't need/car about the seats, but do care about pano. It would be easier to select "pano - yes" vs looking at pano and then pano/rs.
Jun 28, 2015
Fiver Did the database reset today? Looks like everything was added today, and sold cars were sold negative days ago....
Jun 28, 2015
ahurst
Noticed that as well.
Jun 28, 2015
No2DinosaurFuel One of the S85 listed as inventory is not actually inventory. Just another bug to note.
Jun 28, 2015
HankLloydRight Yeah, been working with the database.. I'll check it out tomorrow and fix whatever the problem may be.
Jun 28, 2015
HankLloydRight Ok, I think it's fixed. Earlier today, I was modifying the database to create backups, so I had a current backup from about 4:30pm today. And then I added code to refresh the backup periodically during the day. But luckily, that code didn't execute as planned, which would have overwritten the 4:30 backup, but it didn't. So I just restored that instance, and re-ran the update code, and I think we're back to normal.
Jun 29, 2015
jtpassat for some reason this 2013 car is coming up as an inventory car.

Jun 29, 2015
HankLloydRight That was mentioned above... I'll fix that later today.
Jun 29, 2015
Cowby hmm....clicking on inventory cars now does NOT show the price...pre or post fed incentives....maybe they monitoring this thread?...if so, Y'ALL NEED TO COMPENSATE HANK FOR A WONDERFUL JOB ON HIS CONSOLIDATOR!....LOL
Jun 29, 2015
HankLloydRight That's now fixed (a quirk in the loading).. but it's also now sold!
- - - Updated - - -
Just FYI, in the TM site, I'm still seeing Inventory cars with prices after Federal Tax Credit. Like this car listed on the main page and the detail page for "67,450
Includes $7,500 in EV incentives" 60 kWh Model S P55966 | Tesla Motors
Thanks.... but just wait until V2 comes out.

Jun 29, 2015
MorrisonHiker Same here. I'm still seeing the "Includes $13,500 in EV incentives" message so I don't know what Cowby was referring to.

Jun 29, 2015
brantse Just one sub $60k vehicle left. It's pretty clear that the CPO sales are predominantly on the low end of the spectrum. I think it's going to take some more rounds of price cuts to really move a lot of these.
Jun 29, 2015
mmd Hello Hank,
Can you manually edit the last price for P10231 to $46,900, since the purchaser confirmed this price? Thanks!
Jun 29, 2015
HankLloydRight Sure.
Jun 29, 2015
Musterion I'll 2nd that. I'm in California browsing the Tesla CPO site on a Verizon iPad and 100% of the time it gives me pricing based on Virginia for all inventory cars!
Jun 29, 2015
HankLloydRight Imagine someone on vacation or business in Colorado, and seeing the prices less the double tax incentives, and putting down a deposit, only to find out the actual price is $13,500 more and they don't even qualify for either credit!
Bad move, Tesla, very bad move.

85 kWh Performance Model S P39667 | Tesla Motors

Jun 29, 2015
HankLloydRight That looks like the same bug in the consolidator tagging cars as inventory in error. I'll look into it again tomorrow, I thought I fixed it earlier.
Jun 30, 2015
HankLloydRight Ok, I found the bug causing CPO cars to be listed as Inventory, and fixed it and updated a couple of cars in the CPOC what were incorrectly tagged.
Jun 30, 2015
E39_S62 I know of an inventory car that isn't showing up on the consolidator. P62353
well it was available about a week ago. I assume it still is, It is not showing up in the sold listings either.
Thanks for your work. I love the consolidator.
Jun 30, 2015
Cyclone Well, the Consolidator is only reading the listings from http://www.teslamotors.com/models/preowned , so the big question would be if P62353 is listed at that site. Not all inventory cars have made it to Tesla's own site yet (has any inventory car other than a 60 made it yet?), so I would expect to see certain VINs that we know are out there still not listed on the site and thus, in the consolidator. I wouldn't even be surprised that once the other models start to show up too, Tesla will limit how many inventory cars are listed, just as they currently limit CPO cars to about 40 per location.
Jun 30, 2015
E39_S62 Ah, that makes sense Cyclone. Thanks for the insight.
Jun 30, 2015
brantse It appears the consolidator isn't picking up new cars at the moment. Pretty good price ($59.7k) on a S85 - P12917.
Jun 30, 2015
HankLloydRight Oops. Sorry about that! It's now working again and picked up that one.
Jun 30, 2015
spentan Hey everyone, I'm cancelling a CPO P85 (gonna lose the 1k), but it should come back up soon (P02696) no tech package but other than that pretty good
Jul 1, 2015
Cyclone May I ask why you decided not to get the Sig? Btw, that is quite the collection of Teslas you have had!
Jul 1, 2015
HankLloydRight Can you let us know when you actually cancel the order, so we can see how long it takes to re-appear? Thanks.
Jul 1, 2015
brantse It really looks like Tesla is holding CPO inventory levels very steady. The past several days have been nearly a 1 for 1 replacement of each car removed/sold, at the same location.
Jul 1, 2015
xhawk101 There are lots of benefits for them to being the market maker. I would think they can show dwcent profit on the resale operations
Jul 1, 2015
brantse Agreed, but I still have a few questions/doubts:
-There are several known instances that vehicles were resold for less than the trade-in value given for a new MS. Should this be seen as an indication of weaker demand? Is Tesla looking to get the ball rolling on CPO's and resale assurance, to ensure a strong "brand" and customer loyalty?
-Pricing has been pretty inconsistent and price reductions have occasionally been befuddling.
-They are going to really have to spur resales or may end up with a fleet of aging vehicles. The desirability of these older MS's are only going to drop over time, as new vehicles and features are rolled out.
Jul 1, 2015
Cowby
+1 to this!
Jul 1, 2015
MorrisonHiker Looks like they've changed the text slightly on inventory models (perhaps based on comments here).
Instead of showing the price (less the EV incentives) and the text "Includes $13,500 in EV incentives", they now show the price and then the price without incentives.
For example:
$71,800
$85,300 cash price before EV incentives
Jul 1, 2015
schonelucht No, it's rather because Tesla is overpaying on trade in's. The reason being:

Jul 1, 2015
MsElectric I agree. For example about 1/3 of the inventory S60s are sold at a price that is just about the cost of a brand new 70D.
It seems on the low to mid end of their prices the offers are reasonable but at the upper end of the pricing some of the asking prices make little sense.
- - - Updated - - -
You can only do that for so long though because the market pays what it pays. If Tesla pays more for a trade in than what the market will buy the car for, Tesla is then subsidizing the actual depreciation of the previous owner and they can only do that for so long.
Sooner or later Tesla trade in offers need to be about $10K less than market prices to account for work they need to do to certify the car as well as make a profit for their time and effort.
Jul 1, 2015
spentan Didn't cancel the sig, I cancelled P02696 which was a brown cpo p85 w/o the tech package.

Jul 1, 2015
No2DinosaurFuel Wow seems like low prices on Model S. Looking forward to the price drop. 55K for S85 with reasonable mileage. When the X comes out, I predict
S60 - $40K-$45K --- Should really be a lot lower
S85 - $50K-$55K
P85 - $55K-$60K
P85+ - $60K-70K
S85D - $65-$75K????
P85D - $95K-$105K

goodbyebmw I've driven over 4000 miles since getting my Tesla on May 13th. I realized I could use an upgrade to a P85+. Haha!
Jul 1, 2015
No2DinosaurFuel True. But i dont need a tesla right now. Since it is a pretty penny to buy the tesla even the cpo, i am waiting for the s85d cpo.
Jul 1, 2015
sachin86 I am sorry I am actually the one that bought the car. I am so happy as I think it was a great deal! Funny enough, I was actually considering pulling the trigger on the Green S85 that also popped up today for ~$55K. Was talking to my wife about it and then this popped up as I hit F5. Needless to say, I bought the car within a minute. I'm really surprised you even saw the car because I must have bought it within 5 minutes of being posted.
Thank you so so much for all of the people on this thread and in this forum. Especially to Hank and his consolidator - seriously incredible work that helped me figure out exactly what price range I wanted to be in.
I'm so excited and nervous at the same time! I'm hoping the car is in excellent condition and I'm scared I might miss some things to check for or it is really worn out.
Jul 1, 2015
tga The consolidator says that one has tan textile, but Tesla's listing says tan leather. Bug?
Jul 1, 2015
KJD Congrats on getting a great deal on a Tesla. What year ? How many miles ?
The service center here made my 2012 look like new again. I would bet the store in Houston does the same.
Jul 1, 2015
HankLloydRight It's leather.. I sorted out all the options codes a few days ago, and that one was mis-coded as Textile.
- - - Updated - - -
No, that one got by the CPOC. That may change in the future.
- - - Updated - - -
I don't think this car you're talking about is in the CPOC. I think it's a different car altogether. If TM changes the price, the CPOC picks that up each hour. But if the price changes, and it's sold within the same hour, no, the new price won't be picked up. Like I said, I'm working on fixing that in some fashion in V2. Should be ready in about a week.
Jul 2, 2015
Jaeger Hi Guys, So today I went to Fremont to take a look at the 2013 P85 CPO I had put a deposit on, it took almost 3 weeks to get it over here. Overall the car is in great shape (still needs a detail), but my main concern is the rust on the rotor, and also the wheels look like they were repainted seem like they are lighter and less gloss than the original. I asked my delivery specialist if they can fix/ replace the rotors and wheels, he said he will have to get back to me. Take a look and what do you guys think. Anyone have similar issues?

Jul 2, 2015
tga I remember reading about someone getting rusty rotors replaced. Having said that, rotors are cast iron. They rust. Not a big deal (at least from a safety/performance standpoint).
Jul 2, 2015
HankLloydRight Rusted rotors are perfectly normal. Those actually look less rusted than usual (I.e. newer). Noting at all to worry about.
Jul 2, 2015
ecarfan That amount of rust is normal, and is not unique to Tesla. Wheel color looks normal to me. I don't see any issues of concern.

brantse I check the website ALOT. My wife thinks I'm completely nuts. I would have bought this one as well as the $49.xk S85 that went last Friday in a few minutes, if it hadn't been for her reminding me that we have a new baby coming next week. You didn't give me much time to think about it.
Congrats on the car! For those keeping score at home, here was a screen shot of the listing.

kuttakamina Nobody "needs" a Tesla. We all could have been perfectly happy with a Prius. It's just that we want one, and now that I own one, I can tell you, I prefer the tesla in the garage, than some number on a bank website. Of course I'm not suggesting anyone to be financially irresponsible, but if you can afford it, you should get it. You clearly want one, or you wouldn't be trolling these forums as much as I do
- - - Updated - - -
Yes that's normal. Everybody's wives think the same.
Jul 2, 2015
andrewket Speak for yourself. I'd be one unhappy camper in a Prius.

Jul 2, 2015
kuttakamina Yes that's pretty normal too.
Rust on rotor is - every single car out there that has not been driven for 2 weeks. Drive if for a couple of days and the rust will rub off.
- - - Updated - - -
I'd be happy with a Prius. But damn I would howl like a dog everytime I saw a Tesla whizz by. I picked mine yesterday, and I'm yapping with joy.looking for excuses to drive literally. The car is awesome.

Jul 2, 2015
Max* Incorrect. If I didn't get the Tesla, I'd get an Audi. Prius wasn't even on my roadmap.
Jul 2, 2015
bonaire It is interesting that the CPO consolidator may not pick up a car that comes up one hour and is sold the same hour. Hank, would that be correct? The only way to gather it up is scan more often (every 15 min?) If sold within that window, same thing - could be missed. That may mean that more CPO have been sold than shown on the consolidator because their original listing was never seen to later be withdrawn as sold.
Jul 2, 2015
sachin86 I'm so sorry for being the one that took this from you. If it helps, I am the same. I probably check the site at least 200 times a day. It's kind of sad actually. I can afford the Tesla, but it's the deal hunter in me that makes me not want to overpay. I didn't even see the S85 that went for 49K and I would've loved to take an 85 over a 60 for a few thousand more if the miles were okay and the options were good.
In any case, thanks for the screenshot!! In my rush to buy, I actually didn't take one and now I'm glad I have it in case there are any discrepancies.
Jul 2, 2015
brantse I'm certain that more CPO's have sold and not registered by Hank's website, but besides people chiming in that they saw it or purchased...nobody will ever know. I've seen two of them in the past week.
- - - Updated - - -
You're welcome, glad it is useful. For me, purchasing a Tesla will be a real stretch for my budget....but I really, really want one.
Jul 2, 2015
Cyclone Mine were delivered with MUCH more rust than that on all four. Tesla said they will NOT clean them up. They did, however, "goodwill" a test of my brakes and noted on my service receipt that the rust is only cosmetic and the brakes are fully functional. I plan to get them clean up at some point soon. Drucifer put me in touch with a great company to paint my calipers red and I will probably have them clean the rotors while they are working on the calipers. However, that won't happen until the August or so timeframe.

Stocks, bonds, Teslas, ladies underwear. We're all the same.
Jul 2, 2015
HankLloydRight Yes, absolutely true. But as I mentioned earlier, I'm busily working on a fix for that. Also a fix for "checking the website 200 times a day".
It's been fun working on the CPOC V2 and making it a lot better than it is now. You'll just have to wait about a week until it's done. Sorry. Until then, V1 will have to do for you OCD types (e.g. all of us).
Jul 2, 2015
brantse P85 for under $60k.
Jul 2, 2015
tga Oddly enough, the features list shows blank. I wonder what the CPOC will pick up for options.
- - - Updated - - -
I think you should implement a "reverse auction" style notification system. Users who pay a higher subscription fee get their notifications before others.
Or even better, "if you see a car with features x, y, and z, for less than $X, click reserve for me and submit my credit card # automatically". Of course, then your run into all the PCI compliance fun...
Jul 2, 2015
HankLloydRight I did consider the auction style set up two days ago... For any specific configuration, the highest bidder gets the first alert notice. It was late at night and I just laughed out loud at myself.
Jul 2, 2015
tga Now that I'm at a real keyboard, I'll add a couple of thoughts. I've also annotated one of Jaeger's photos for clarification:
![]()
Rust in the "swept area" will disappear almost instantly when you step on the brake pedal (but not with regen braking, since that doesn't use the friction brakes). This is the area where the pads clamp down on the brake disc. The pads will act like heavy sandpaper and very quickly scrub off the rust. Since this area has freshly exposed cast iron, it will rust quickly if the brakes aren't applied for a few days, especially if the discs get wet. Rust here is normal, doesn't effect braking, and scrubs off almost instantly.
Rust on the "hat" portion of the rotor is there to stay, unless manually removed. It's also normal and doesn't effect braking, but it's unsightly. If it's really bad, I suppose it's possible for rusty water to drip down and stain the rims, but I've never seen it happen.
Type "rotor hat rust" in the search box at the top of the page; there are some useful threads.
As an aside, I've replaced several rotors on a number of cars (Mini, Porsche, Audi, Saturn, Subaru), and most, if not all, of the replacements (OEM or dealer-sourced) came with a high-temp grey paint over the entire rotor (including the swept area). It wears off the braking surface instantly, and prevents rusting on the rest of the rotors. In addition to cosmetics, it also prevents the rotors from rust-welding to the hub, making future replacement a snap.
Oddly enough, none of the factory-installed rotors I've replaced had this coating, even if the replacements from the dealer did. I once had a rotor so badly seized to the hub, I needed a giant gear puller to apply tension, lots of penetrating oil, and some hard whacks from a 3 lb sledge to remove it. When it came off, it launched into the wall of the garage and left a nice dent in the drywall.

Well what we know about that P85 is there is panoramic roof, Wood Decor, Tan Leather seats, Black Color, Carbon Fiber Spoiler. I wouldn't be surprised if it's nicely equipped. Still 2012 and P85, I am going to pass and wait it out for S85D.
Looks like my prediction is coming true earlier than I thought.
At this rate, I might have to reduce my prediction by $5K by the time the Model X comes out.

brantse They added quite a few cars to the Cleveland (Ohio) location yesterday. I wonder if these were transferred from the excess Chicago inventory. Has anyone been to the Chicago SC lately to see if some of the 100+ vehicles have disappeared? I'm hoping that will be the normal activity from now on, to drop a dozen or so (or perhaps the number that will fit on a car carrier) to a single location, all at once.

bonaire Some good discounting of CPOs.
Hank - your grid could show the current price and max price and even the delta to show the discount from original price. Those with Opt* indicate a price change but the shopper must do extra work (ie. click on each) to see whether there has been discounting on each in particular.
Jul 2, 2015
HankLloydRight I'm pretty much out of space width-wise on the grid (in CPOC-V2), so I wouldn't want to add another column for price delta. Besides, the price delta only applies to certain cars and not all cars, so it would be wasted space. I've made this a little easier in V2 (a tooltip popup), but still doesn't calculate deltas. Many cars also are getting multiple price changes, so for now, I'm just storing the collection of previous prices in a text field. Just look at P48065 has had three price changes, from $105k to $101,200, to $105k again and then down to $97,300. I'll leave it up to the reader to decide how to use that information rather than trying to calculate deltas on the grid. And trust me, V2 is going to be a huge step forward in the CPOC.
- - - Updated - - -
Yes, I can do that. But I also want to ask everyone a question. When I release Version 2, would you prefer a separate thread to discuss just the CPOC and keep regular CPO discussion in this thread? Or just keep it all in this thread? I can see people having lots of questions about the CPOC not related to the cars themselves.
Jul 2, 2015
spentan Up to you, I think a separate thread would probably be easier for you to monitor, but atm it looks like most of the discussion is mixed in this thread. So I'm not fussed either way.

HankLloydRight Yes, I know the CPOC is currently off-line. Working on it.

FlatSix911 Just to be clear...
- the rust on the rotor will come right off with any braking action.
- the rust on the rotor hat flange can be coated with a good primer.
- the rust on the caliper can primed and painted for better cosmetics.
Jul 2, 2015
Cyclone Sorry, it's the "rotor hat" I believe that is covered in rust on my car. I mean, its not a huge deal as they determined it is only cosmetic, but it irks me how far they go to say they recondition these cars to like-new condition and don't clean up the hats or replace them. I get they aren't affecting the quality of the braking, but it does sour the first impression to see all this rust. This photo is of the best looking rotor hat and caliper (cover?) on my car, as-delivered.

HankLloydRight Just found out something very interesting, but kind of expected.
Tesla is moving CPO cars back to available for sale, but NOT listing on their website.
I've been testing CPOC V2 and found some anomalies of cars that were previously removed, but still available for sale.
Take this Blue P85+ in Los Angeles: 85 kWh Performance Model S P16299 | Tesla Motors
It doesn't show up at all on their site. It was first added 5/28, and then removed and now added back to CPO inventory, but not listed on their site for sale.
V2 will now periodically (maybe once per day) scan all "sold" cars to search for cars like this that were once listed, removed, and placed back for sale, but NOT listed on the current TM website, and of course, list them as available on the CPOC.
- - - Updated - - -
Just did the first full scan and found these cars back for sale with price reductions, but not listed

I'm sorry that these won't show up correctly in the current Consolidator, I'm focusing on getting V2 running, and can't back-port all the changes to V1. It should only be a few more days.
Jul 3, 2015
Cyclone They are probably cycling through them to get all the cars "sitting on the lot" into the "new" front-end system from the back-end system and maintaining things on the new system -- all this as a separate function than actually listing them for sale. From a high-level point of view, it makes sense as there were many things about the back-end-system that Tesla employees didn't like.
Jul 3, 2015
BoerumHill Sorry Hank, you probably mentioned this in another post, but I didn't follow. What source tells you a CPO is again available for sale if it's not on TM preowned site?
ETA: never mind, I got it. If you punch in the URL for specific VIN its for sale again, but it doesn't show up on the location page that shows all CPO for that region.
Jul 3, 2015
andrewket If the car isn't listed for sale, how are you finding them?
Jul 3, 2015
HankLloydRight What BoerumHill said above.
They were once listed on the TM CPO site, and the consolidator picked them up. They were then sold/removed, and the consolidator picked that up too. BUT, I found that some of the removed cars, when querying their detail web page are still available for sale, just not listed on the main CPO TM site.
Just click on this link: 85 kWh Performance Model S P16299 | Tesla Motors You won't be able to find it LISTED for sale on the TM CPO site. But it sure looks available for sale to me.
Jul 3, 2015
Bet TSLA I seriously doubt that Tesla considers these cars available for sale. They just happened to (perhaps sloppily, accidentally) have their pages remain publicly accessible even thought they aren't linked to from anything.
But there's no need to speculate. If you're interested, just ask Tesla if you can buy one of those unlisted cars.

HankLloydRight They have "Buy" buttons on them, and they're all "overpriced' at the moment. I do very much suspect they are actually for sale and just being rotated in or out of inventory on the website. It's probably one (marketing) group responsible for the listings, and another (sales) for marking cars as sold. Or they are available for sale, but being reconditioned, repaired, or moved around the country. It also could take some time for an unsold car to be marked as available (with a 'Buy' button) and then some more time to make it back on the site. Also, there's no region that has more than 40 cars, so they are clearly limiting their website to only list up to 40 cars per region.

HankLloydRight Looks like it popped back on at 4am. Sorry you missed it!
The timing is strange too.. 4am on a Sunday(or I guess 1am in Calif) I think it might have been an "inside" job, whereas they relisted it specifically for someone in the know to buy it right away. Especially for such an early Sig car. Kind of like posting a job application for a job already filled. If its not that, then there's some automated system in place to move cars back into inventory.
Also, for the "hidden" cars, the "Buy" button goes to the CC page, so I still think they're for sale and not errors or sloppiness.
Jul 5, 2015
Cowby +1....my thoughts on an inside job exactly!

HankLloydRight Also interesting is that S00222 is still showing up on the LA CPO page, so the consolidator will still pick it up it as available.
