The price increase notification included a statement to expect to finalize by the end of January. Thought maybe a form email but I got a call from tesla today (tried to contact Tyson Virginia store which hasn't opened yet) they told me that it was correct timing and car would be delivered within 4 months of that. Very nice surprise since my reservation number is between 13200-13300. This would be 4 months ahead of original estimates. I doubt that many cancellations and expect they are ramping up to over the 400/week rate they set up. What was also nice was the prompt call to tell me of store opening delay. They are bending over backward to communicate with customer base

Wow.. I surely hope there's simply more deferrals and waaay more 60kw and 40kw packs configurations (or std suspension) than our polls would have indicated.

You've got to take our polls with a HUGE grain of salt. We are all, after all, the people who are enthusiastic enough about this car to spend our precious time on this forum. I would say that we're more likely to order fully specced cars.

Yes, it does sound more than a bit off to have your sequence number delivered this year (and if I had a low sequence number with a 40 or 60kWh battery, I'd be really frustrated). It also sounds like TM wants to enhance their stock price by selling the most expensive model before year end AND it appears that there are a lot of rez holders who want 40 or 60kWh cars, red cars, non-active air cars AND there have been more than a few people cancel or delay delivery of their cars for tax/financial reasons.

I guess I'd be frustrated, too; however, given the state of the 60s and 40s what's the alternative? Of course, that's all self-serving because I'm getting mine after all (yay!).

Still no VIN and no change to date range of dec 17-31 but after the tesla website update last night, I now have a link to Download Manuals and warranty under my P#. Anyone else see this also? Or maybe a good sign?

I've got the same thing. You could download all that stuff from their "manuals" page before, however, so I don't think it changes much.

I was told yesterday to check daily for my VIN. Should be coming soon.

Well, I'm in that boat but, given the rate at which Tesla's pumping out 85s this month, I'm optimistic that they'll crank out a ton of 60s early in January to catch up. It does appear that there are a lot more 60s (and some 40s) along with standard suspension/production red variants than there are 85s given how deep Tesla's going with this December production madness.

I will be frustrated if they go too deep into January while continuing to give priority to 85s at that time.
  • Dec 11, 2012
    Lyon
While I agree with you, I think it may look like they're prioritizing 85s in January because, 1) they were making all 85sat the end of December and 2) because they will want to ramp production of 60s some (not just make them as fast as they can) to ensure that they're up to snuff quality wise.

Folks with low sequence numbers who ordered the 60 should definitely get priority once they're able to produce 60s.
  • Dec 11, 2012
    kinddog
i agree with the idea that they're prioritizing Performance and 85kWk models in order to maximize profits this year. smart move, but if i were a 60kWh with a low P #, i'd be p****d that I (10,280) am set to receive mine in a couple weeks!

Just as a point of reference, I ordered the 85kwh performance and signed my paperwork on 12/6. I was notified last night and confirmed today that I would receive the car by the end of this month. I'm P5371 (although I was formally a Sig and deferred, if that makes any difference). I actually wanted to make a slight change to my configuration (gray wheels instead of silver) and they would not let me. They said I'm locked in and that they queue up the cars based on the parts they have already ordered/in stock. I think they are flying through the 85s right now. I'm sure that's frustrating for the lower P #s with smaller batteries. It's all about efficiency at this point. Elon tweeted yesterday or the day before that TM is now operating in the black, so they must be doing it right. The stock is responding!
  • Dec 11, 2012
    shokunin
I know it seems frustrating that a simple change to say grey 21s and silver 21s would not be allowed. It comes down to if you take a set of grey 21's then it delays the person who ordered grey 21s in the first place, they would have to order you a set of 21s in the next shipment and that would delay the assembly of your vehicle.

    Update on P1577:

Andy, of the inside delivery team at Tesla, tells me that my car is past the burn-in stage and is in final inspection prior to loading onto a truck. He expects it will go on the truck by the end of the week. Looks like I'll be getting the car right around Xmas.

So just doing a little math.... With 3 weeks left we have a 9k range reservation holders in the group expecting delivery this year. Take out the 40/60/Red/Std Suspension buyers, those who have deferred until 2013, those who haven't finalized yet and a generous number of cancellations and that's still a LOT of cars to get delivered in 3 weeks.

So the question is, how many cars will get delivered this year? If they're working 2 shifts with 400/cars per shift that would make December production about 3200 cars. But obviously they're not going to roll a car off the line on 12/31 and deliver the same day. And how many November built cars are awaiting delivery?

R113 scheduled for factory pick up Thursday. P85 Grey, Carbon, Black Int, Grey wheels, Sound package, Pano

Had a factory tour on Sunday which is a must if you can make it. Lots of finished cars, white bodies and parts to be seen. Bring the kids if you can. They loved it. I got to see another car delivered in my exact config. Exceeded my expectations. SW update was applied so door handles auto extended. Way cool. All worth the 3.5 yr wait.

Went on Website and selected the call me button as I have not heard anything in a week or so, since I received my dec 17-31 delivery range for factory delivery.. Approx 1 hour later received a call from Mike in costa Mesa service center. Not sure if it was related, and even though I live near the costa Mesa service center, I already advised I was taking factory delivery. He said our car was on the production line and should be ready in 2 weeks. Unfortunately 2 weeks is Xmas. Wife can't take any day off that week, so initially set up the 27th, but later changed after wife said she can't go unless weekend. So called him back and set up 29th.
As expected he said it was all depending on the car being done. I requested at least 5 days notice so I can book some airline tix up there mike said he will pass it along to delivery team at the factory.
Seemed like a strange call. He had some info, but not enough to really help out. They must be passing the initial call off on others as the factory delivery team is too busy.?
Honestly I'm excited about the date for the 29th, but not too confident until someone from the factory team calls me.

    - - - Updated - - -

Also should have added, I asked Mike about a VIN # and he said I had one and would email me. No email yet. I asked if it would show up on my tesla dashboard and he wasn't sure.

Not too excited about Teslas communication process yet.

I received my window (12/16 - 12/30 last Monday, and was told I should get the VIN this week. Having heard nothing, I called late this afternoon and was told one had been assigned, and that they would email it to me in a few minutes, but 6 hours later, nothing...

As the family and I are flying up to take factory delivery, I'd like to get a delivery date as far out as possible, as airline tickets look to be 2-3x more expensive if they aren't purchased 7 -10 days out.

P2009, I was emailed VIN#1929 last week, and then got a call yesterday saying my car (Blue Perf 85kWh, Grey interior, matte Obeche, the full goody bag) is BUILT and waiting to be put onto a truck for the east coast...I have a tentative delivery scheduled for the end of next week (Just in time for Christmas!). Couldn't be happier...2.5+ years, and it's finally happening. I'm still in a state of disbelief, seriously. It's been like dreaming of something you desperately want but can't have...And then someone says "Oh, you want that? You can have it next week" :)

FYI, my delivery specialist said there are a ton of cars headed to the New York area. Brace yourselves! I still haven't seen an S in the wild yet, and I'm hoping that the first time I do will be when they unload it off the delivery truck and into my driveway :)

Excellent! Something tells me my car might already be on the East Coast based on the updates here - I'm just waiting for the call you got. Though it would go a long way towards explaining how, as P9455, we're expecting a car by 12/31

I followed up with my contact at Tesla today, and was able to find out my car is built and in water testing. He said it should be ready some time next week, and recommended that to be safe, plan on picking it up on the weekend. I've gone ahead and booked one-way tickets from San Diego to San Jose for the morning of the 23rd.

My contact also was able to get me my VIN, 2301.

    ModelS1079
Oh, really- you forget the rest? I think your S is coming complete with roll up windows and AM radio, or did you upgrade to eight-track?

    1. Ed congrats. Put both of ours ona truck and send them East. Same configuration. Named mine Rhapsody (...in blue).
    2. No way 500/day - but I suppose you never know. No, no way. 500 per week is just believable. If true, buy your shares of Tesla now.
    3. Agree that there must be a fleet of trucks about to head or already heading East.
I SUSPECT: gameplan is to surprise folks they are here, giving a three day notice on a at-store delivery, like in Toronto/Vancouver/Fremont. This prevents the sloppiness-time-money of deliveries to different homes and, for the buyer, allows for a fun group event. As much as I'd love to see that truck roll down my street, a festival S's, one of which is mine - that'd be fun. Unlikely here in Teslachusetts, though, given issues with dealership - maybe the recent ruling locally would help allow for such an event here.

I'm sorry - welcome to the forum (sincere - you will find more info than you knew you needed, and you do need it), but I hate to inform you that your reservation in August, 2012, and your delivery in February is not registering here, where I believe there is a continuing wait, from August, 2009 to December, 2012, or 175 weeks and 3 days... 1,228 days...40 months and 10 days...3.36 years...three years, four months, ten days.

Just wondering, it's okay to put a $5,000 deposit the S now less than three years and two months before you drive it? Nobody told me. Torerazo, welcome, and I hope you enjoy the wait as much as I have. Like a long, sweet Christmas Eve of anticipation, forum posts and net searches, store visits and test drives, persevarations on things like a visor or a cubby shelf, and the slightly odd, early-adopting but wonderful community ever-growing around this California Company showing us the future, today.

I'm equally skeptical. I called them today and had a conversation with someone on the delivery team. Apparently, for people given the "Do you want your car this year?" email a few weeks ago, they'll be shipping the cars directly from the factory to the purchaser (like they delivery cars in Texas) and that the car will be considered "delivered" when it leaves the factory on the truck. So they meet their window if the truck pulls away from the factory on New Year's eve with your car onboard.

Now, ordinarily, I'd be more apt to call them on this particular little bit of BS, but even if the car leaves the factory on 12/31 I'll get it sooner than I would have otherwise so I'll take it when I can get it.

Basically, I'll be calling and asking every morning and enquiring as to my VIN. Hopefully, they'll give me one just to shut me up. ;)

On one of my last calls they said "call us everyday, I would" so I decided to take them up on that offer. However, I'm hearing of some cases now where the car is on the truck before they get the VIN loaded into their CRM.

My car is coming this morning P210 / VIN 1769. I have been tracking the car since Texas online and have spoken to truck driver several times. He just passed Nashville and should be in Louisville (where I am) in 2 to 3 hours. He says he is also dropping a car in Lexington then heading to Georgia and North Carolina.

Also, my delivery window was 12/13-12/27 ... so they are hitting the front end of it pretty easily.

She said it looks Green to her. So if you're in the Boston area and expecting a Green S soon, looks like it's in Dallas right now and should be in Boston late Sat. or early Sunday morning.

Question for people who are not in Cali, and can't take delivery at the factory:
Given that you have paid in full for it, how long after the factory releases your Model S to Sales for delivery,
does your car usually wait around, before they load it on a truck and send it down the road for delivery?
I have this uneasy feeling that something is delaying my delivery.
  • Dec 13, 2012
    strider
There's no "waiting period." As soon as they can source a truck and have a load of cars that are near you (or on the way from cali to you) then they'll send the truck. They are shipping everything they can right now. They may be getting drivers who want to be home for the holidays or whatever so could have a smaller pool - no idea.

Just got a VIN P02530 for P1312. Said to be ready to ship on Dec 21-22 to Scottsdale, AZ. They apparently prefer home delivery in Arizona (probably due to dealership laws). I can't imagine how they're going to handle driver's schedules around the Christmas holiday, but would anticipate receiving the car close to the new year. Can't wait (but probably have to)!

At least you got the email. I'm still waiting for that one, but they told me the VIN over the phone on Wednesday.
Last night at 9pm the delivery specialist called but I'm still waiting for the email she promised for the next steps...

My delivery will be complicated that I may be out of the country when the car comes...Fortunately the guy who
is installing my paint armor is OCD (his admission) and he can accept delivery for me.

CORRECTION: I did get a VIN email from someone on the sales team.

I am P#5513 and just spoke to Tesla. Still no VIN, but was told that a "big batch" of VINs is expected very early next week, and that I should be a part of that batch. Still just have my delivery window of 12/15-12/31 to San Diego service center.

Seems like there are a number of Tesla customers in ATL area, FLA, NC here in the southeast, all similarly distant from Cali.
When my Roadster was delivered in 2011, it was the only Tesla on the truck (there were other makes loaded), and they sent it promptly.

Seems strange, that I am getting no specific response when I ask if something is holding up the Model S.
Just the same generic response "normally only takes a day or two, it will ship soon, could be today but I can't really say, ..."

It seems like someone would know what is going on, and could just clarify, in response to my calls and emails, but it seems to be a mystery.

P2747 (VIN 2301) will be ready for pickup on Sunday, but since we decided to make this a mini vacation/roadtrip with the family, and there are other commitments before then, I've set the delivery date for a week later, Sunday 12/23. I don't know if Tesla will be making deliveries on Christmas eve, if not, mine could be one of the last deliveries before Xmas, and I can't imagine a better gift.

We'll supercharge in Harris Ranch, overnight in San Luis Obisbo, then supercharge again in LA before coming home to Carlsbad.

Picked up my car this morning at a delivery event in Los Angeles. I'm loving it and so is everyone that I've sent pictures or given rides to in it. I'm P1383 with a vin of 1873. My delivery window was 12/11 to 12/25. My baby is a green performance with tan leather, 21" grey wheels and all of the extra's except kiddie seats and wall charger. The color is so much richer than the sample color in the showroom, I couldn't be happier with my choice. photo1.JPG photo2.JPG photo3.JPG

Nice car JimO :). Man I love those performance wheels!

I got a call from my delivery specialist (Jake) today. He says the car should ship out within a few days and instead of going through the DC service center will go directly to my house. He thinks earliest possible arrival will be just before Xmas, and potentially as late as Jan 5.

Tesla will be missing my delivery window of Dec. 7-21.

Really wanted this car to drive to the family event on Christmas Day.

Edit: I had called Tesla Tuesday evening and on that call also indicated it would be done in a few days. Not sure if I'm seeing stall tactics or some folks have wide definitions of what "a few days" means.

JEEEZ, just get me my car guys! :)

A quick update. P2514 and VIN 2282. Tesla contacted me today to verify registration, etc. and said I should plan for delivery on Saturday Dec 22nd. They are planning a "delivery event" for that day in Seattle.

Earlier in the week, my delivery specialist estimated that my car would be coming in towards the middle-to-end of next week...When I checked in with him today, he said that they have a TON of cars coming into New York over the weekend, and I could be looking at early next week instead. So, great news for me, but I just wanted to let the other lurking New Yorkers know: There's a TON coming into town this weekend...Brace yourselves! :)

JimO- Thanks for the photos! Exactly the car I have designed. I'm P14480. Been watching for 2 years, finally ordered this fall. I'm now hoping that production ramps up and I have mine this spring.

"A TON of cars coming to New York over the weekend..." Love the sound of that! My original delivery window was 12/15 - 12/30, but my DS said on a phone call that i might be first week in January...oh man, i hope my status on Santa's nice list means that my reservation (#5652) is part of the TON this weekend.

I'm doubting it though, as they haven't responded to my pleas to send them $$$ yet, and nobody has sent me a VIN#. Also, has anyone received their wall charger yet? I'm hoping that comes in first.

P3170. After reading that people were calling, I finally called the DC store. Julia was very friendly. I mentioned that I wanted my car this year and she said, sure we can arrange that. I was surprised and did not believe it. Now, two days later, Julia called and offered me my VIN number (P02336). She said that the car should be on its way soon and felt very sure it would be this year. So, call if you are in a hurry. Either way, call the store and make sure they have a copy of your license and proof of insurance.

Although I prefer home delivery, I chose store delivery in the fear that home delivery may cause a delay.

The Austin, I do believe Amos and his 80 foot truck is stopping with two in The Hamptons today, and then two in MA tomorrow - I am one of those lucky folk, and looks like VIN P01845 should land in my driveway about 9am, tomorrow (Sunday) morning in a light snow. Day 1,230 exactly since my deposit was placed (8-2-2009).

I'm easy, I'm easy like Sunday morning, yeah...

Posted on the delivery thread about The Joy of The Wait, and thanks to all for the great communication along the way.
Will post pics in the delivery thread. (did I say YAHOO!!)

I am P4821 and have a delivery window of 12/15- 12/31 - no VIN my email to Tesla 2 days ago requesting VIN update has gone unanswered. I was told by Solar City that the HPWC will not be available until late January. So what they are doing is installing the 220 for the mobile charger until the HPWC are available and then coming back out to install that. I am in California.
