You have my exact configuration! Perhaps that's why my VIN is only 10 cars after yours! That's a long wait for a blue batch...the difference is the following...

    04/05/09: Reservation
    12/04/12: Pre-MVPA Signed
    01/21/13: Delivery Button
    02/10/13 - 02/24/13: Delivery Window

I wouldn't say they are batching based on colours ... my VIN is 5297 and my details are:
    11/12/2010: Reservation
    12/04/2012: Pre-MVPA Signed
    01/21/2013: Delivery Button
    02/17/2013 - 03/03/2013: Delivery Window

I finalized a couple of weeks ago and my paperwork said Feb-Mar.

Just got off the phone with Tesla and my window is now 3/29-4/12. That is relatively serious slippage!

I wouldn't call it serious slippage. Your previous estimate was that they would deliver it before the end of March. Your new estimate says that might still happen, or it could go into the first two weeks of April.

i'm 6652 and still don't have a vin. just got off the phone with my DS and he doesn't know. communication has been terrible thus far. my delivery window was jan 28-feb 11. obviously that's not going to be met since it ended a day ago and there's no vin in sight...

only salvation is that it won't arrive until march 1st and that's the magic time for the new title tax. i just don't want it to not arrive until march 31st

Well, just got off the phone with Lauren from Menlo Park Store. Very pleasant and knowledgeable. So, I still don't have a VIN yet, but she told me that my vehicle is in pre-production (she has access to factory database because she works there, which my PS did not have) and assured me that barring any supply issues and other unforeseen events, I should have my vehicle ready in 7-10 days (next week). Now, according to her, the reason for some people getting VINs earlier than others has to do with whether someone needs it sooner for finances, and etc....well, at least that was her explanation. I told her I'm doing private financing, so I still need the VIN sooner and she seemed surprised to hear that. she said she will try to find out as soon as possible. will have to see. If some of you haven't had much luck so far with VIN or knowing where you are in production, she's very resourceful.

    ankursingla
Johnny - her reasoning for VIN assignment does not appear to be true. I am not doing any financing, but I still got the VIN through the App. Never made a call to Tesla to ask for the VIN, etc.

You may want to talk with Julia Papanek - I have heard that she is helpful.

I updated a chart showing forecasted delivery dates for 85s and 60s with outliers excluded. Apparently, there is no meaningful difference between the 85 and 85+ sequencing. Deliveries of 60's continue to slowly catch up to the 85's; however, in the past couple of weeks, the postings have mostly been new 85 production windows. There may be a gap between about 3/7 and 4/12 with no 60s being delivered - I'm not certain if this is real or not.

Interesting. My VIN became available yesterday and my car status was something along the lines of pre-production line/awaiting assembly. Was told yesterday that it would probably be ready to ship in 10 days, then 5 or so days to cross the country, plus a couple of days at the Service Center.

I just got a call from the Tampa Tesla Service Advisor (who has been checking my status daily) saying the status just changed to completed/ready for transit to Service Center.

Sooo... I guess that is good news :)

@Ken...thanks. just checked, and no VIN. well, I'll give it one more day before calling again since your seq # is lower than mine. I just don't wanna be left out of the 12,xxx club.

@TampaLiam...congrats. that's awesome. hopefully you'll get your car in a week.

So here's a question. This morning my iPhone app now has the VIN. I was expecting it to fail to contact the car, but instead I get the remote access not enabled, go to the touchscreen and enable remote access message. Does that mean that the car is far enough along to actually be contactable over 3G?

Update: Sounds like the car should be done by Saturday. I'll probably pick up on Monday, because I really want to see the factory in operation.

Looks like I'm right behind you gregincal. My reservation number is 1254x and I just got my VIN yesterday 5476.
The Tesla rep I spoke to yesterday wasn't sure when the car would be delivered though. They estimated it would be about a month.

dpodoll, Just called Tesla on your recommendation. Looks like you're right: they told me the car is now "at the end of the line" and they are just waiting on a few parts. But the rep seemed to think the car would be shipping out very shortly. Seems like it won't be a month after all.

Still no VIN for me, but at least I got first contact by email form my Product Specialist. I'm envious of all of you who get to pickup at the factory. I drove by it on my last visit to the Bay Area, and it is HUGE! Kind of unbelievably huge. Not to get too hyperbolic, but it was kind of like seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time. Pictures do not express the scale of the thing.
  • Feb 13, 2013

Funny that some of the mid 12,xxx people that just got VINs yesterday and today are told that the car is nearly ready when my Product Specialist told me that my car is in early stages of production and will take 10 days. Do the Product Specialists really have visibility or are they just guessing because the VIN was just assigned?
  • Feb 13, 2013
    gregincal
They're just guessing. I was told the same thing yesterday, but the status changed today.
  • Feb 13, 2013

Yup, definitely guessing. I got my VIN yesterday and was told it was in early production, and today got a call (same person) saying it was done and ready for delivery.
  • Feb 13, 2013
    Jeff Miller
I've three conversations with Tesla reps in the last two days on this topic. I got my VIN yesterday and the person I spoke with made it sound like they were just starting to build the car. Then when I called today, they said it was
"at the end of the line" and almost done except for a few parts. Then later this afternoon I talked with my delivery rep
in Chicago, and he said the car was done and in the "quality control" phase where they go over everything with a fine toothed comb and make sure everything OK. He said this phase can last between 1 and 5 days depending on what if anything needs to be altered. So if I had to go out on a limb and extrapolate, based on my own experience, and what I'm reading here on the forum about other people's experiences, by the time you get your VIN, your car is already built.

Hmmm, they must be getting closer for mine. SolarCity just called to schedule a time to prep for the HPWC. SolarCity previously told me that they coordinate with Tesla to do the electrical work just before the car is ready. Exciting. I was at the Tampa store two days ago. They are full of cars there with some going to Georgia. Soo all of you waiting in Georgia, you should be happy soon :)

Some cars there had the paint armor and after seeing it I highly advice AGAINST the standard paint armor. It only covers about 1/3 of the hood and there is an ugly visible line where it ends, especially when the car is dirty. For the white ones, the dirt just sticks exactly where the armor ends levaing a gray dirt line in the middle of the hood !

I am glad I did not order the armor, but are thinking on getting it locally installed for the WHOLE front.

    Help with Delivery Date Estimate

I posted this in the 60kWh first email forum, but thought it more appropriate for this forum:

For those of you who have been estimating delivery dates far longer than me, what would you estimate mine to be?

    P13,571, reserved 11/7, order complete 1/25
60kWh, white, pano, 19", textile, piano black, tech, air, rear facing seats, supercharging

Even though the status in My Tesla says "The Tesla Factory is building your Model S" and my delivery estimate on the docs said Feb/Mar, I'm guessing last week in March or first week in April.

Just keep calling to get updates. My delivery window was Feb 19 to March 5. I called and got Vin about three weeks before delivery window when I saw they were getting close to my res number (10542). I got the "in line for manufacturing" line. Two days later called about some paperwork and was told my car was on the way to GA. Already shipped! Should be there on Friday. They called me on Friday to say the car was on the way to Louisiana. Showed up yesterday around noon. 3 days before the start of the delivery window!!
I have a feeling there are more than 400 a week rolling off the line.

    Good Luck to all

I called today and received an update! So here's the timeline now with estimates:

11/7/12: Reservation complete: "RESERVATION SEQUENCE NUMBER: 13,571"
1/25/13: Order complete: "Your Model S order is on its way to the Tesla Factory" (79 days)
3/12/13: Estimated delivery prompt (46 days)
3/19/13: Estimated VIN assigned (7 days)
    3/29 to 4/12/13: Delivery window (10-24 days)

156 days (max est.) from reservation to delivery, 54 more days from now until delivery. That's gonna be a long 54 day wait...

Great data point. I track assigned VINs and have 3832 for January 17th. That makes 70 per day or 490 per week for the last month!

So, unsolicited email from local Tesla delivery specialist yesterday with my VIN 5761 !!!
With a delivery window of2/23-3/9 I wasn't planning on calling until later next week and starting the normal "pre delivery angst" calls.
Much to our surprise Tesla initiated the process sooner than expected.

I just called again to confirm. "Mac" said that the dates are what's in the system. The configuration is completely buildable with nothing holding it back. He's double checking and emailing some folks in the factory to make sure. I sure hope they find out that they accidentally pushed the dates by a month. Easy typo to make ;) Maybe I missed the batch of 60's and all they're building right now are 85's.
  • Feb 17, 2013
    jchangyy

Dates for 60s have been off a bit from what I remember seeing on this forum. Some 60s with much later delivery window than mine already have their vehicles. what's interesting is that they had earlier seq # and later delivery window. I think Tesla was anticipating later delivery of 60s initially, but was able to delivery ahead of time. It's possible that HansK may get his car before the computer generated dates. will have to see how many 85s tesla needs to catch up before switching to 60s. they also have to add reds and earlier 40s as well as std suspensions.
  • Feb 17, 2013
    jomo25
Yes, I have no way to prove this, but it appears to me that they did a big batch of 60s last month. 85 res holders were beginning to get antsy. Now it looks like they are back to batching 85s, putting 60s on hold for now. It makes sense for them to go after 85s as those have higher revenue (and likely higher profit). I'm worried they did a batch of 60s just to say they did them, and will really try to finish all finalized 85s before they go back to 60s. We saw a 2/4 finalized 85 already get the deliver button (targeted for late Feb-early March delivery). But a 1/25 60 is still estimating a late March - early April delivery.

Hi Hans - I think your estimate is dead-on. Another White/60 #13490 received VIN#5097 and got a delivery window from 2/9-2/23 at least a week ago. I assume that they completed their order immediately after receiving their finalize button. I'm #16615 and finalized slightly before you, but I ordered a red, so you'll be getting your Tesla way ahead of me. You should be hearing something from Tesla next week, I think.

i had asked in early January that my car not be delivered until march 1st and was told no problem. i reached out to them a few days into february since my original window was 1/28-2/11. they couldn't tell me anything. after 6 phone calls and atrocious communication to say the least i am now told that my car won't even enter production until the first week of march because they are about to make a substantial run of 60s. the PS wouldn't say anything else due to "insider trading" (a line they continue to use at tesla which as far as i can tell is overused and means we just don't want to tell you or don't know) and couldn't give me a delivery window yet. i told him i would like a firm window and VIN asap.

needless to say, this is a frustrating process.

A firm window, fine. However, do you realize that you don't generally get a vin until shortly before you get the car?

With your original window, they were likely getting ready to produce your car when you e-mailed them. That might push production back an undetermined amount of time since I don't think they would produce your car in mid January and then hold it until March 1st.

Not having the VIN is plenty fine with me - ASAP to me means when they get it. I would however like a window and one that's accurate. If that window is march 15-31 that's ok but they just need to have a window. To continually say "we can't say anything" isn't the best way to handle the situation.

Also, to delay things by 2-4 weeks doesn't and shouldn't mean delayed by 6-8 weeks.

If you got pushed out of a production run it is feasible that you will lose more than 6 six weeks.

Manufacturing is not a simple planning process like a restaurant reservation.

What is your angst around the delivery date?

Ou have waited this long, what's the hurry? You demanded a push out. They obliged, but now you demand that the push out timeframe meets your expectations. That is frankly not realistic.

In addition, they probably don't run a full planning process every single day, just to accommodate people like you.

Having worked in hi tech manufacturing for 20 years, it is requests like this that can dramatically impact smooth production schedules.

They probably batch these change requests to schedule them, in later windows. The Delivery Specialists don't schedule anything at the factory. That's done by production control. They take the demand plan, compare it with the supply plan and then create a production schedule from there. I bet they love to have at least a 2 week if not one month frozen production schedule. That means NO CHANGES.
Every time there is a change it creates an exception process.

Lets not forget that Tesla is still a start up. It appears that there is a lot of tolerance around flaws with the cars, I think there needs to be a lot more tolerance around manufacturing as well.

It's not as easy as it looks to predict these precise dates as so many demand.

I would estimate that they are making monthly production plans.

jchangyy - when I was doing the tour at the factory i saw a bunch of cars near the indoor test track which were undergoing final inspection. there were 2 silvers/greys with 19" wheels so not sure if one of them was your but i suspect so. Could not get close enough to check vin, but I'm sure if you call your DS today and demand to schedule a delivery date he will say your car is ready.

Just get the financing ASAP so you can get in your car then post pics. When the weather is better (raining tomorrow and Thursday) i will post more pics.

I was wondering where you were. thought you'd never come back to this forum now that you have your car.

Impressively, I got my final MVPA signed and done yesterday (Sunday) and now, my loan stuff is docu-signed today (President's day). I should get my loan check either tomorrow or Wednesday. I tried calling today, but I think many of them are off today. no answer. will try again tomorrow. Hopefully, mine is one of the one's being tested, which means I should have my car ready for pick up by the weekend--just in time for a trip around Half-moon bay.

    looking forward to your pics...

Tesla may be making a monthly production plan, but they appear to be pushing delivery date notices (two week production window) out in batches each Monday. Every Monday and Tuesday, this blog fills up with new delivery windows and then silence towards the end of the week.

There actually seems to be a lull in blogging for 60kWhr Teslas lately. Telsa may have filled X number of 60's for the initial surge and then moved back to filling 85 orders as quickly as possible. Or maybe, many people that reserved from Nov-Jan are less active on the forum.

Actually, they seem to be batching and going back and forth. First week of February was all 60's and no 85's, second week was all 85's. That doesn't mean they won't go back and do another 60 batch at any time.

Pre-delivery MVPA for 60Kwh with Air, tech etc was signed & countersigned on 2/6 with delivery estimate of March-April. The way 85kwh deliveries are progressing, I don't think they will get another batch of 60kwh in production before mid March. Another person had Feb-March for his 60Kwh but he is yet to receive delivery survey or button.

OK, all set with a factory appointment for tomorrow at 3. The complication in my case is that I wanted to do a trade-in and drop off my old car at the factory. Although this is possible, you need to jump through some hoops. Because the trade-in is through a separate company, they need to come by your house and inspect the car and complete the sale before you can drive it to the factory, but the whole transaction from estimate to delivery needs to happen within a week, so the timing is a bit tricky. It took a bit to find out the information, and then could only schedule the inspection for today. On Friday I decided to cave on my plan and see if I could get a ride up and pick up my car over the long weekend, but due to missed calls with my PS I wasn't able to schedule it.

Anyway, I've now signed over the title to my old Audi to AutoNation and will be driving it up tomorrow to the factory to pick up the car. It works out fine, because my wife can come tomorrow as well (which she wouldn't have on other days), and we can drive back together in the Model S.

    Can't wait.

Congrats...post lots of pics please. I'm still waiting to hear back about my pick up date.

just got off the phone with my DS. says my car is still in production--now it's been in production for 10 days and they don't know when it's gonna get completed at this time. when I spoke with them last week, they thought I may be able to pick up mid week. Now, they're telling me it'll be mid-week to end of next week. Apparently, even with similar batching (non-perf 85s), the cars are built not in order of VIN (someone with VIN of 5484 (mine is 5486) picked up his car 2 days ago).

So, looks like mine will be about 2 weeks after the close of my window, despite factory pick up. Trying to patient, but it gets harder and harder as things get closer.

    VIN ASSIGNED: 5837

sweeeeeet. just got off the phone with my delivery specialist. She said my car was just assigned a VIN and was about to start the production line soon. (note: iphone tesla app saying no vehicles linked to my account, so had to call to get it)

When asked about how long it would take to get it out here to the east coast, she said it would take about 5 days to get through the production line and another another 7 days to get on a truck out here then another day or two to prep it in service store, so I'm looking at basically 2 weeks.

That falls in line with the beginning of my delivery window so it looks like their holding up their end just fine. Very happy! Now I need to get my insurance and financing figured out .. as well as installing a 220V outlet in my garage lol.

Got the call today that my car is ready. Now the question is do I take a day off of work... during a 4 day work week... having just taken a 1.5 week vacation... which I was out sick for the 2 days prior to, or do I just bite the bullet and wait until Sunday?

    1) take off if you can.... maybe just a 1/2 day??
    2) if VIN 5448 is ready.. my VIN (just got it via app today) 5776 should be ready in less than a week?????

1/2 day is a good idea, but I have to fly up from LA which probably adds nearly 3 hours (door to airport to factory). Does anyone know the latest slot they offer for factory tour+delivery? The latest I have seen mentioned here was 3pm I believe.

Hmm. I wouldn't bet on it. My vin is 5486 and my DS told me, in no uncertain terms that my car is still in production and its too early to schedule a pick up date. Funny thing is, my cars been in production for the past 8 days with no end date in site. Cars w VINs in 56xx are notified of completion so may be you might get yours before mine. I just feel so lost in a vortex of darkness
