DFibRL8R Received vin 3983 yesterday for P#5656. Told will finish production in 5-7 days. Original delivery window on preMVPA Nov/Dec signed Sept 11. Delivery button 12/31 with estimate then of 2/2-2/16 delivery. Looks like they could even beat that if delivery goes smoothly.

Discoducky Confirmed delivery date of Thursday 4pm at the Seattle service center. 60kWh, VIN#3737, Blue/Tan/Matte/19", Pano, Supercharger, Tech, Air, Sound, Jump Seats. Mostly financed from TSLA stock! Stock trading time = wait time of 2 years, 18 days! I intend to use this delivery checklist: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...ilebasic?pli=1 which is think is from gg? Rats, can't remember, anyway, it is awesome! Hoping for 4.2, but whatever, I'm stoked!

gregincal There's a reasonable chance that you won't hear from them until your car is ready to pick up (it happens a lot). If you need the VIN to arrange financing you probably should contact them, otherwise you can wait.

Jan 19, 2013
blc1017 I was in the Menlo Park store today looking at interior combinations for my own configuration. There were lots of new cars in the service bay being prepped for delivery/pickup over the next two days (I had been there before with the bay virtually empty). Lots of beautiful, shiny, Model S's just waiting for their new owners. I was skeptical about the delivery windows being quoted, but seeing the numbers of cars today, I suspect the delivery windows are not that far off.
Jan 19, 2013
kendallpb What do you mean by "where I stood in production--do you mean your delivery window, or do you mean where your car is (assembly, painting, etc.)??? My window's sooner than yours (starts 01-28, supposedly, but I wasn't told how long it was--I'm ignoring the bogus "it'll ship end of December!" I was previously told), so I'm wondering if I should call to find out more info. My PS doesn't contact me and while he doesn't mind me e-mailing, he never has anything to tell me (but swears he'll let me know when I get a VIN). So how detailed was the info you got, and where did you call--the number on the pre-MVPA? Thanks!

tdiggity My guess - April +/- 1 month unless you get pushed out by all the 60's, reds, and normal suspension builds.
Jan 21, 2013
Al Sherman I think you're gonna have it by the middle of March. I'd certainly take the under on April 1st. Every time Elon says he's gonna do something there are naysayers and he just gets it done. I'm 400 cars after you (presumably) and though I'm not attached to the outcome, I truly think I'll have my car before the end of March within 2 weeks of yours. I'd obviously like it sooner than later but I'm ok with anything between March and August.

gsxrex Hmmm, part of me wants to call Tesla and see where I am, as my res number was 12645, and I finalized a few days after you. But on the other hand, my garage is no where near ready to get the car. Electrical work isn't scheduled until mid-February, and I need to rearrange my entire garage to get the MS to fit inside (it is significantly longer than any other car I've put in the garage, so I have to move all my shelving units around).
Decisions, decisions. Let's see how long I can turn a blind eye before my curiosity kills me.
Jan 21, 2013
gregincal Probably better to know. Otherwise they may contact you and tell you your car is ready to pick up. I'm in pretty much the same situation. My electrical is scheduled for the second week of February, I'm out of the country until January 29th and I also need to do a lot of rearranging of the garage. PeterB Things I learned on a factory tour today:
The last 3 cars coming off final assembly were vin's 4211, 4174, 4149
Apparently vin's are assigned sequentially to each body in white, however the bodies in white are held and batched by color through paint, so they don't always end up in order in final assembly. Bodies pulled for rework also disrupt the sequence.
There were a couple cars pulled off at the end for rework with notes like 'door handles not working' taped to them. They both had vins in the very high 3000's
Dies for the Model X will start arriving in Q2 and it will be built on the same line as the S
We drove to the side of the factory and saw maybe 60 cars waiting for shipment.
All in all the tour was very interesting. We could have spent a bit more time looking at the various stages of final assembly.
One additional note.... we saw Elon ride by on a bike

Jan 23, 2013
gg_got_a_tesla Positives:
- You get a factory tour! A must see.
- The car would never have been put on a delivery truck. So, you don't have to go through some of the scheduling, tracking and even damage-in-transit nightmares that some folks had to endure. Pickup from a Tesla service center in LA may work differently though with Tesla taking care of the transportation more carefully.
Negatives:
- You'll have to drive back to LA using the Superchargers etc.; not sure if that's a negative?!!
You'll be able to pick the delivery preference when you get to click on the red DELIVERY button (when it shows up for you) at Sign into My Tesla | Tesla Motors

PattyChuck Got my VIN, 4080, this afternoon. I'm one of those cases where the car is finished, final inspection has been done, and it's sitting in the lot awaiting transport to Chicago. It seems as though the VIN showed up in the system today. DS says it'll take anywhere from 7-15 days for the car to show up in my driveway. I've got an over/under office pool going for January 31st. It'll be very exciting to see who wins (but regardless, the real winner will be me!!)

lolachampcar bob,

Jan 23, 2013

neroden I got an automated "delivery window" on Monday or Tueday (after answering the automated questionnaire about title, financing, etc.) Feb 7 - 28 !!! However, I also told Tesla to call me, and they haven't. So I guess I have to call them.
(Edit to explain: I've got reasons why I do not want to accept delivery on extremely short notice such as some people have gotten; I need the VIN to get insurance, etc.)
- - - Updated - - -
If Model S reservations keep accelerating, it would be most unwise to put Model X on the same production line, as the line will be working full out pumping out Model S! With three shifts at the target rate of 400/week, they can only produce 62400 per year!

neroden Oh-kay. Having requested a phone call "ASAP" on early Tuesday morning, before dawn, I haven't received one. So I called them. Now the inside delivery team phone number is going to voicemail. Has Tesla given them a vacation or something? Anyone know what's going on in there?
Jan 24, 2013
mnx Thousands of calls on a daily basis can do that...(Just a guess)
I guess it is only 8:44am there though, maybe they aren't fully staffed until 9am PST?
Jan 24, 2013
ElSupreme They are in California and I don't think they have many people working before 8am PST. I left a message on their 800 number and got about a dozen calls about it in the following 24 hours (and on MLK day). Granted I had a immediate problem that was easily solved. But they do actually listen to the voicemail on that number.
Jan 24, 2013
jchangyy
They usually have two people for a specific region. One person starts at 8 AM and the second person starts at 10 AM.
my DS told me that, at least for the Northern California region.
Jan 24, 2013
neroden A dozen? I've had that happen too. I think Tesla should set up a better designated-point-of-contact procedure. It's currently unclear who to talk to in order to get any given thing done.
OK. I'll wait another day before calling again.
The website and automated emails are sufficiently unhelpful that it encourages calling. A lot.
- - - Updated - - -
That's understaffed. Well, I guess it depends on how large the regions are. But I'm pretty sure that counts as understaffing. Is there an alternative way to find out what's going on? What I want to avoid is the "hi, we can deliver your car tommorow" phone call (no, you CAN'T, I don't have insurance yet because you didn't give me a VIN), and the delivery with bits missing which could have been fixed at the service center (I'm 300 miles away, I don't want unnecessary travel). Since lots of people have had both happen (and some people were happy with that), I need to talk to someone who can make sure those things don't happen.
The automated website stuff is disconcerting to say the least, and honestly very poorly thought out. When the "It's time to schedule delivery" email goes out, Tesla needs to be ready to immediately field phone calls from the people they sent the email to. And they're simply not ready.
Jan 24, 2013
kendallpb It's happened! I have VIN #4270 for res. #8061. :-D So excited I can barely stand it. Delivery window presumably unchanged (starting 01-28) and I was told before to expect it later in the window, so I'm guessing in the first week or two of Feb.
Coincidentally, Solar City's out today, the day I got the VIN, doing solar panel site survey, energy/house efficiency survey, and some final surveying for installing the HPWC. So it's a very electric/solar day here.

Jan 24, 2013
MikeC If VINs are assigned at the body in white stage, and a car can be completed in as fast as 6 hours, I can see how people can get their VIN at the same time they find out their car is also ready. I think everyone wants their VIN as soon as possible (I sure do - my window opens 1/26), but I don't think it's necessarily a communication lag from Tesla to get it close to the time the car is ready.
Jan 24, 2013
kinddog Dear MikeC,
I also reserved in July. I also finalized on 12/3. Then they told me like a couple days later that the car would be delivered 12/15-12/31. I got this WITHOUT being asked in the (in)famous "Do you want December delivery?" email.
Did they originally give you that window as well and miss it?
Now our current delivery window is the same. And neither of us have a VIN it appears.
Therefore, I challenge you to a duel.
Check one:
[ ] accept duel challenge
[ ] decline duel challenge
Sincerely,

Jan 24, 2013
lolachampcar I spoke to the SE regional sales manager yesterday. During the conversation he switched over from the "sales" production tracking system to the "floor" production tracking system. Apparently there is a couple of day lag between the two which, because the build time is coming down, means my car went from "Chassis II" to "Final". I did not confirm this but I got the impression that the DS group only has access to the "sales" production tracking system.
Jan 24, 2013
MikeC @Kinddog - I remember reading your posts back in December and being quite surprised you had such an early window given your sequence number. That is not the case with me because I didn't actually finalize and get countersigned until 12/28. So 1/26 is my original window. I can imagine the agony of waiting more than a full month after you expected to have the car - something must have gone wrong in your case, somewhere. As you can see above, your duel has been accepted (although I'm not quite clear on the terms...first to get a VIN?)

Jan 24, 2013
PattyChuck I've seen a couple posts that indicate their car is going to Chicago. I think we'll all be on the same truck. I'm debating just going to the Service Center to pick up the car, since I'll be able to get it that much sooner, but then I think it might be a bad idea to drive a brand new, unfamiliar car thru Chicago traffic... better to let Tesla have responsibility to get it to my house!!

Jan 24, 2013
yobigd20 I actually called yesterday when I saw someone with 129xx get their button, but was only told 'feb/march' (same as why I saw after I finalized) and that my delivery button should show up some time around 30 days before its ready. They did not 'turn on' any delivery button for me.

gsxrex I also called today, same response as you. 30 days before you'll get your delivery button, yadda, yadda, yadda. I'm 700 spots ahead of you, with what I would consider a run-of-the-mill config, P85, black, all options other than paint armor.
But hey, at least FedEx delievered my interior premium floor mats today. Always nice to have mats for a car I don't have.
Jan 24, 2013
gregincal It appears the same place the Finalize button did. At some stage. I contacted them and they activated my delivery button 1/21, and my window was 2/2-2/16, so not really 30 days ahead of time. I guess it's all sort of random. It sounds like the 14xxx reservation was early for some reason.
Jan 24, 2013
rekoh same here... I called ,, they just said Feb/Mar.. then a week later.. there the delivery button was. I would guess geography has something to do with it.. they may be trying to batch the few Minnesota cars together to save on shipping expenses would be my guess of why I moved up in line. Not many Model S reservations up here...

lolachampcar yobigd20,
I was in your shoes. I kept looking at the spread sheet and seeing TONS of ViNs being issued beyond my P# for no reason that I could see. I am certain there is a method to their madness and, if we knew what it was, we would drive them crazy second guessing the system and trying to game it (or at least I would). In this case, I can understand the lack of transparency.
Jan 25, 2013
yobigd20 Right, could also be batched on vehicle model too, as I am performance and I think someone else around our numbers is performance as well and hasn't received theirs yet either. Well I guess I'll be hitting teslamotors.com every 15 minutes hahasuch a glorious waste of time. I think I check that more often than the stock price lol

Here's a question - (I won't really know if this is possible until I get my delivery button) but I see there is a service center in Philadelphia. I live in South Jersey, so Philly is actually really close to me. If the Philadelphia center is even open yet, is it possible for me to get my car delivered there and pick it up from there? If that is possible, then would I have to pay PA/Philly sales tax? I know people that are doing the factory pickup in CA have to pay CA taxes regardless of whether or not they live in CA or not, but is that true for picking up from service centers too? NJ has no sales tax for zero-emissions vehicles, so it would be really stupid of me to do a PA pickup if I have to pay PA taxes just to get the car a few days sooner.

Here's an explanation: The people jumping sequence in front of you are 60kWh packs. Every unique configuration of a Model S essentially forms a unique SKU, although you can simplify this among the bigger options: battery pack size and the performance option. As a result, there isn't actually one single line of people waiting to get their cars. There's the P85 line, the 85 line, the 60 line, and the 40 line. And as you might expect, each line moves forward independently. So, right now, because production just began a few weeks ago, the 60's are flying off the line at a faster rate than the P85s. There may even still be some supply issues with P85-specific parts. Regardless of the cause, that's why you see other sequence numbers jump ahead in line.
I would only be concerned if you're seeing P85's with similar configurations jump ahead in line. Even then, the reason could be geographical batching or other hidden issues. It sucks, but it's what Tesla has to do to keep production rates super high and make sure they keep the company afloat.

ModelS8794 I picked up my car from the Philly service center earlier this week. Bryan is the DES there and given the weather I think he'd be more than happy to have you coming out to him instead of the reverse! lol. About taxes, I'm not sure. I signed a form stating that even though it was a CA sale, I was not in CA, and they were not in CA, and so I didn't have to pay CA sales tax.
One factor that might give you comfort - PA sales tax wasn't collected at the time of sale, even though I am a PA resident taking delivery in PA. Instead, I need to pay tax when I register for PA tags later this week. So perhaps the situation would be the same for you - simply sign the forms saying you're not in CA taking delivery, and then register and pay taxes to NJ once you get all the paperwork you need.

lolachampcar kinddog,
If you are anything like me, its at the end of the line. By the time the sales system exposed my ViN to the DS, the production system had me at final inspection.

gsxrex Such a letdown. Champagne didn't fall from the sky? I expected cherubs to start trumpeting at the very least.
Jan 25, 2013
Desai Thanks for this information. I am in York, PA and not sure if I should pick up at the service center or have it delivered? Where do you live compared to the service center that made you decide to pick up?
Jan 25, 2013
ModelS8794 I actually live about 10 minutes from the service center. The reason I went there instead of having a home delivery was it was frickin' freezing outside and I wanted my orientation to be indoors. I don't know that I'd do a 90 minute drive for it, though. It's not like the place is very exciting, just a bare office or two and a 3 car-sized heated garage bay. They did have a Keurig though!
On the other hand, a service center pickup means you get a nice 75 mile drive home to really put it to the test. Just hope your companion doesn't get too jealous having to drive the ICE home.

Al Sherman Here's a curveball for ya. I just got the "Your Tesla is almost ready to come home!" email. Res # 14,835. It says final stages of production and delivery in a few weeks.
They must really be pumping them out. Reserved November 28th. Finalized January 17th. P85/Blue/Tan, Tech, Sound, Pano, Air, 21 inch wheels, Twins/HPWC.
Wow!
In the meantime, I'm going ice fishing tomorrow. Hope I can concentrate.

yobigd20 Just clicked through and it is showing an expected delivery date between FEB. 28TH - MAR. 14TH. However I did not submit this yet. I called a Tesla Delivery Specialist to inquire about whether or not I would have to pay PA sales tax if I have it delivered to Philly and picked up at the service center there instead of delivering it straight to my house (I live in NJ where there is no sales tax on EVs). She said that I would likely get it sooner if I pick up from the service center, and she thinks I would not have to pay PA sales tax if I register in NJ. But she said she wasn't 100% sure on that and would get back to me by Monday with an answer. I think I can hold off 2 days just to ensure that I don't end up paying an extra $6-7k just to get my car a few days earlier lol

EKoS Just got the e-mail with my VIN - #4291 (reservation #8953, a pearl white Performance S, carbon fiber trim and black leather, every option but the dual charger and rear-facing seats). The car is apparently already in testing at the factory, I'm expecting to take delivery at the DC showroom sometime around Feb. 9 (plus or minus a few days). Can't wait!

Treker56 Wow that is fast. Lou -- when did you finalize? I am P14580 and have not finalized yet -- have until 2/14 to finalize and I want to maximize the delay to be able to line up downpayment and financing + selling old ICE car. Hoping mine would be delivered early or mid-April.
Jan 26, 2013
kinddog Looks like we may bump into each other at the dc store, and leave with almost the same car! cheers

Guys I'm in NoVa too (Fairfax). Can I ask why you chose the DC store for delivery vs home? Was home taking longer (which is what I want).
Thanks

ppl Another fair fax purchaser. Now I understand opening Tyson mall store. I thought about the same question. I like convenience factor easier to get whole family of drivers home than to dc. Good luck on car
