It's a hit to the ego to be in the wrong. Some people can't take it, and will do whatever they can to put blame on the other person. You just happened to be the target. No doubt would have played out the same if you had been in any other quiet car. If he were smart he'd use this experience to learn that relying solely on your ears to detect cars is a bad idea. But instead he'd rather be "right."

Pulled into my garage just as a few guys walked by the house. As I got out of the car one of them called out to me "Can you lock the car so we can see the handles go in?" I laughed and said "Sure!" When the handles retracted he just smiled and said thanks and "Nice car" and off they went.

My favorite frequent lines are "this is the slowest one they make" and "the door handles are the LEAST interesting thing about the car"

Maybe I'm oblivious but nobody seems to take pictures of my plates. I guess the one fool (that I talked about a few pages back) who leaned out the window might have been taking a picture of the plate.

I just posted 3 days ago, but almost the same thing happened again. I took yesterday off from work to continue my repair project, but had to go back to the "orange store." Another guy circling the car when I got back to it! This one knew about Tesla though, and just wanted to check it out.

My Car and I were invited to my Town's Sustainability Fair last weekend. It's 9:30 the following Friday. It's ironic that I am sitting at a Supercharger. Here's the text I just got. It gave me a Tesla Mom

Text exchange between my friend and I, as I got in the car after the gym Thursday. I had offered to take him to the airport but he never would give me a time. Clearly, he's only my friend for the Tesla perks.

Went out for a bit with the wife yesterday. Stopped at a light at the entrance to a freeway, and a BMW M3 pulls beside us. My wife REALLY doesn't like 'racing'... she kind of enjoys the launch experience, but not when other cars are involved in some fashion. That said, I hear him rev his engine, so I accelerate a little quicker than normal (but not full). I can't look at him, as my wife will be on to me, so just gauging by his engine getting louder and louder, I keep increasing my acceleration. Because my wife is used to the sudden launch, anything less goes unnoticed, so she didn't really figure out what was happening until it was over. Without giving it full power, I kept the BMW behind me until the speed limit dictated it was time to end. I then pulled into the slow lane, and he pulled up beside me with a big smile on his face. He yelled (so I could hear over wind noise) "I can't believe I was just beat by an electric car" and he gave me a big thumbs up. When my wife heard that, she went from mildly annoyed that I did a little 'race' to extremely happy that we beat the BMW and moreso that the driver knew what beat him. Fun times.

So here's a great little story.

I'm in my one-car garage with the door open talking on the phone to a colleague. My Roadster is in the garage. My wife's Model S is sitting in the car port next to the garage. The FedEx truck pulls up, a guy gets out with a small package and walks up my driveway. I turn towards him and he says "No more gas!" (a statement obviously prompted by the fact that he could see two Teslas sitting there). He smiled, I gave him a thumbs up and took the package. :)

So my wife and I are on our first trip in the Tesla. My 87 year old mother-in-law is with us and we are driving from Dallas to San Antonio via super chargers in Waco & San Marcos. We stopped at the supercharger in Waco and had lunch at the Collin Street Bakery. If was a wonderful experience all the way around. As we are driving away my mother-in-law says:"How much did you pay for that electricity?" "Nothing!", I replied.

They have been paving my neighborhood for the past week or so, so I've been driving my old car (a Porsche 911TT). My wife and I were heading out to dinner and I had to dart out through a small gap in traffic to cross a busy street and warned her to "hold on" while I floored it and shot across the lanes. When we straightened out and I got off the throttle, she looked over at me and said "this car seems slow now."

Took Ms. Blitz to a Cars for a Cause Auto Show today. A young couple walked up while I was talking with another guy. They looked in the frunk and she said, "Where is it, Joe?" Joe responded, "Honey these European cars almost always have it mid car or in the rear kinda like a Volkswagen, ya know?" I purposely remained silent while they got around to the back of the car. "Joe, I still don't see it." Joe's response is a classic: "Honey this isn't real. Someone just musta towed this here to make fun of people looking for the engine. Look around. I'll bet there is a camera taking our picture someplace close."
On a side note, I entered her in the Best Looking Engine category; Loudest Muffler category; Highest MPG category. I did not get a single vote in any of my categories. I think Joe submitted me for best European though!

How can one be enough of a gearhead to take the time to go to a car show and still not know the least thing about Tesla? It was all over the news last year. Baffling.

I had to go across town on the hunt for a new electric mower and just before I reached the hardware store I was pulled over for a random breath test. Tesla are rare on the ground on this side of town. The Police pull over groups of about 5 or 6 cars at a time and I was the last car waved in.
I waited whilst they attended to those ahead of me and finally a young female Police office comes over to my window.
At first it was the standard thing, show my license and count to 10 over the breath analyser and I passed the test as I hadn't had a drink for a few days.
Then I realised there were 3 or 4 young officers standing at my window and the conversation went something like this.
Male Police officer: Wow look at the iPad in the dash
Me "That's not an iPad it standard on this car"
Chorus of Police Officers "Yes we know"
Male Police Officer "I think it looks like a Maserati or a Jaguar"
Me "Yes I get that a lot, it's actually a Tesla"
Chorus of Police officers "Yes we know"
Male Police officer to Female Police officer "Bet you it's faster than your 4 banger" she rolls her eyes.
Me "This is the slower model and where legal it will go from 0 to 100 Km/h in 5 and a half seconds but there are faster models that do its in just over 3 seconds"
Chorus of Police officers "Yes we know"
Female Police officer "I think even yours would beat my 4 banger"
We all laughed at that.
Me "You do know it's electric"
Chorus of Police Officers "Yes we know"
The Female Police Officer hands me my license back and wishes me a lovely day.
I glide silently away past the senior/older Police Officer looking perplexed at the young ones, I don't think he knew.

I went a few days after delivery without any, and I was a little bummed because I'm in an area that doesn't have very many at all. I've gotten a few very strange looks. However, the last week I've had plenty.

I took it to my local "Mom & Pop" (literally) garage/tire shop. This guy has worked on my family's vehicles forever. Even though this type of vehicle threatens their livelihood (gas sales, repairs, oil changes, maintenance, etc.) he was blown away. Mind you, this isn't a guy that has a very bubbly personality. So just picture this rural Texas, grease covered, mechanic going around and just flat out marveling at the vehicle. I took his wife (the shop manager) out for a drive, since she wasn't covered in grease, and when I hit the accelerator she exclaimed, "WOW! This is what the cars USED to be like!" Not sure her reference, but oh well.

I've done probably 6 "test drives" for various people. The other day I took my daughter to the local meat market. As we were walking in, an older gentlemen was walking out. We were at the counter placing our order and the older gentlemen came back in and was speaking. I thought he was talking to the owners of the meat market but eventually I discovered he was speaking to me. He said, "I have two questions: 1) How much range can you really get on a charge...and 2) Was it worth it?" I was surprised he even knew what it was. So I enthusiastically answered his questions, offered to show him the interior and he was very intrigued. He said he's been following Musk and Tesla since the Roadster.

Last week I was taking my wife out for Mother's Day and I stopped by one of my best friend's houses. His reaction was one I was a little nervous about, because he's extremely tight and conservative with money. He buys just about everything used (He called me one day to brag about his used John Deere lawn mower he found on Craigslist). His old truck was probably 16 years old and he replaced it with a 5 year old truck (mind you, he makes good money). When I first told him about I was buying a Tesla, he was flabbergasted...but I couldn't get a good read on what he really thought. He has three boys, the oldest 15 and the others a few years younger. He mentioned he wanted to see the car, because his boys really wanted to see it. So we stopped by and it was so much fun. The whole family (mom included) just "Oooooohhh'd" and "Ahhhhhhhh'd!" the entire time. I took the Dad and three boys on a little test drive and punched it. I quickly realized that on 50% charge with 5 people in the car, the acceleration is greatly affected. So I had to give the caveat, that it is MUCH quicker than this! Anyway, he asked if I had time to stop by a neighbor's house to show. He said he was thinking about purchasing one, which I was very surprised. So imagine if you are still in the research phase, asking questions, and then out of the blue...your neighbor knocks on your front door and asks if you want to come look at the Tesla in his driveway. He came around the front of the house on the phone (trying to reach his wife) with the biggest ear to ear grin I've seen. That was a cool experience. In the end, my friend looked at me and said, "I can totally see why you got this. This is incredible."

And finally, just yesterday we took a family out on a test drive. They just lost their adult son (35 years old) unexpected very recently, and so this was a good distraction according to my Mother (who is friends with this family). When we got back to my Mom's, her friend called and said that her grandson (who wasn't home at the time) heard about the car and was "heartbroken" that he missed it, and was too shy to come down and see the car. So of course I hopped up (imagining myself at 13 years old, seeing such a cool car) and said, "Of course bring him down!". So his mother and he drove up on a little ATV and I got to show him the entire ride and took them on a little test drive. He was painfully shy and didn't speak much, but I could tell he was loving every second of it.

All in all, these "Tesla Moments" are so fun and rewarding. I look forward to many more.

Another funny one about 30 minutes ago. The local body shop here where my office is, just a regular small-town body shop/tow truck service. He heard through the grapevine about my "accident" that Cyclone referred to and heard it was $10k repair. So he saw me today and piped up with, "Heyyy...I'll fix it fer $5k and you can keep the difference!". Nooooot exactly, but thanks!

As Cyclone said, it's hard to tell but it was definitely noticeable. I've done it twice now with 5 people in the car, and I'd say it was a good 1 - 1.5 seconds slower. I'm used to being in it by myself, smashing it the accelerator and it pinning my head into the headrest (even with me anticipating it). With a car-full of people (and 50% SOC), the difference was quite dramatic...but still enough to elicit "Wow!!!" from the occupants.

Haha yeah, very true! 2 months ago I had just placed the order button...and about 7 days before that I had no idea was a Model S was. It was a rollercoaster for sure.

Yep...:crying:. Parts are ordered and I'm just waiting for the body shop to give me a call. Looks like I'll be in an ICE rental for 2 weeks.

Stopped at goodwill to drop some things off and the guy that receives everything sees the 17" through the open trunk with the seats folded down and says "whoa, that is some dash" pauses for a few moments and says "wow!" Then walks around to the drivers side and peers in the window and says "that's amazing, what kind of car is this?" I say it's a Tesla, "wow, I never heard of that before." I then say "it's all electric", he looks at me puzzled. Then walks back to the pile of stuff and asks if I want a receipt. Nah. I get in the car, put my foot on the brake, grab my seatbelt, drop it in drive and hit the trunk button all in 5 seconds and silently drive off, when I look in the rear view I see him standing there with his mouth hanging open.

I should have showed him the frunk.

Haha.

My short answer to this (as noted below, I have a P85D) is that the traction on the road has a MUCH bigger effect on G-force than the number of passengers or battery SOC (assuming, of course, you are carrying humans and don't have the yellow lines of death on the dash, which I've become quite familiar with in cold weather). I'm starting to wonder if the spoiler- the only option I didn't get besides third row seats- would actually function like a spoiler was intended, and actually change the metrics? Does anyone have data on this?

When we took our car in for it's first inspection everyone at the station came over to look. The owner knew a lot about the car and I let him talk to the others while they sat in the car. The secretary finally got out her cell phone and took a picture of the touch screen.

NC does as well. The one thing Tesla couldn't prepare for me was my state inspection. I will have to take my car into a local shop for the state safety inspection. At least I won't have to do the NC emissions inspection!

Of course, you already know this, but the car has the name number of electrons before & after charging. Just different chemical states in the battery. The chemical energy stored does add about 3.4 micrograms of additional mass, but, when compared with a car that has a curb mass of 2.1 trillion micrograms...

In Germany, we need to bring our cars to an extensive inspection every two years. The very first inspection is after three years. When I sold my Lexus CT200h that was replaced by the Tesla, I brought the Lexus to the inspector. He refused to inspect it because of all that "hybrid electric crap in there". He sent me to Lexus to have it inspected. Apart from the fact that he can;t refuse any inspections (it's a government based inspection), how will he react when I show up with an "electric crap" Tesla?

It will be very interesting to see what those public stations will do when all the Teslas will have their third year inspection. They will either have to retrofit all inspection station, or change the laws.

More like an anti-Tesla moment:

Took my daughter (9) on our first supercharger road trip from barren Central VA through I-95 corridor to PA/NJ and had a little contest to see who could spot more Teslas in the wild. She saw a car-carrier-full, but I spotted a Fisker Karma somewhere near MD, who was unfortunately already on the right turn lane before I could catch up (traffic, not for lack of effort). As I was lost in ogling the Fisker from the far left lane, a massive Chevy Silverado sped in between us on my right and cut recklessly through traffic.

It was an obnoxious move, but pretty funny in retrospect.

There is a recurring pattern that I experience often: I happen to be one of the first cars at a red light in a multi-lane street, when the light turns green, I accelerate "normally" (for a Tesla that is), meaning that I do not floor it, but I still accelerate significantly faster than the ICE cars around, which happens to tickle the driver in the next lane the wrong way for leaving them so far behind at the light. After that they often do crazy dangerous moves (cutting off people in other lanes, overtaking using the hard-shoulder etc.) in an effort to catch up and overtake me when I reach denser traffic ahead.

I am not sure what they are trying to prove with that, but it is funny.

"HEY Tesla driving person! I just want you to know that my car is not slow, I just don't have good reaction time!"
• May 15, 2015
DITB
I can so relate to this. Having an average so far at 219 Wh/km (352 Wh/mile), I am not amongst the most sporty drivers - but it's hard NOT to use the FastForward option when you want to move into a position that's open. Very often it happened that you see the driver of some sports-ICE car that "lost face" having to make their way up through traffic on the expressway, only to pass you to "get even". And I let them.

A lot of people confuse acceleration with speed. They think you drive oh-so-fast because you are well ahead of them. Just because you accelerated so effortlessly doesn't mean you were speeding.

A few days ago, going exactly at the speed limit on the expressway, this sporty-looking ICE came up on my side, and stayed close for a minute or so. Probably checking me out, not sure if he wanted to provoke a reaction, but eventually it became too much for me. I can resist anything but temptation, and I floored it for a few seconds, leaving him hundreds of meters behind. Let the cruise control bleed me back to the original speed. In this case, this driver didn't even attempt to make it back up, but kept his distance behind me. Me, doing the speed limit well ... apart from a few seconds of dashing.

Yesterday I was sitting at a red light in the left lane during a medium traffic time. I could see the next light loosening up so I had a few hundred feet of road to work with. Of course, when the light turns I press the pedal a bit (not to the floor, but a healthy amount) and then hit the brakes casually to leave a nice 2 car length gap before tightening up the position.

As I come to a stop, I notice the truck from the right lane at the previous light catch up to me and slow down to a stop. I'm ready to hear the lecture about showing off or whatever, but instead he says, "It's like you read my mind. That's exactly what I wanted to see."

I laughed, and replied "If only she could do something about traffic, she'd be perfect." He smiled, agreed, and pulled off to a gas station a few feet ahead.

I have no idea if he knows what a P85D is, but he definitely knew what a Tesla vehicle is. No need for TV commercials. Just more youtube of stuff like Insane Mode. The word gets out.

I had something kind of like this happen the other day.

I was on the highway, where the speed limit is 65. I had TACC set to 70. It's a four lane highway with two lanes in each direction. I try to stay in the right lane as much as I can, and only move into the left lane to pass. I was in the left lane, passing someone, when a car came up behind me and got right on my bumper. There was another car in the right lane that I was travelling faster than, so I stayed in the left lane, planning on passing that car too. It was probably going to take 20-30 seconds for me to overtake that car, and then a few seconds longer before I was in front of it enough to pull over. Well, the guy behind me stayed right on my bumper the entire time. By the time I was just about to pass the slower car on my right, I realized that all of us had gained on an even slower car, also in the right lane, and that if I pulled over at this point my TACC would certainly slow me down quite a bit. I had had enough of the guy riding my bumper so I decided to exceed my TACC setting, and pass the other slower car, and then pull over. And since I was going to exceed my TACC setting anyway, I figured I may as well do it dramatically. The guy who had been riding my bumper had plenty of room in very short order. When he did pass me a while later (since he clearly wanted to go faster than 70, and I did not) he wouldn't look at me!

This is a set up of my own making. I live in a townhouse with no garage so I had an electrician run a 240v 50 amp line to curbside. I made the charging station pictured in the photos out of a bollard cover.

As the stand itself has to be portable (I don't leave it outside when the car is not plugged in), I decided to use Hubbell Pin and sleeve plugs and receptacles to attach the stand. These are rated for 600 volts and 150 amps, more than enough capacity for current and future needs. The receptacle is wired to underground conduit leads from the breaker. It has a waterproof flip top so no water gets into the connections. The connections from the receptacle to the conduit leads run through waterproofed sleeves. Tesla's UMC is mounted in the bollard.

I was in Vegas last weekend when I happened to find myself next to a Ferrari 458 in the middle of the strip, and after a little chatter (and me making some funny gestures as if I was trying to 'rev' my engine) this is what happend. The reactions from the Ferrari owner and his wife were just priceless! I can imagine alot of pedestrians turned their heads too when they heard that Ferrari try to take off only to see this near silent car leaving it behind :)

I've noticed that the majority of Tesla owners never make any modifications to their car. I think the general consensus is that the Tesla is a work of art that should not be defiled.

I think Rick & I [and many others] look at the Tesla as beautiful cars, but we wish to transform the car into our own work of art.

My first "Tesla moment" was just between the wife and me. We had picked up our new 85D at the Fremont factory and thoroughly enjoyed and were amazed by both what TM was doing at the factory and the magic that the car exhibited in our "walkthrough" with the delivery specialist. We left the factory and started on a magical journey down the Pacific Coast Highway marveling at all the beauty, functionality, and driving experience of the car. We were especially impressed by how well everything had been designed and worked. Even the voice recognition - the death knell of so many technology-laden promises - seemed to work well. Tessa (our Model S name) was quickly personified with brilliance and beauty. It wasn't more than a couple of hours into the driving that we had the need to clean up the front window a bit (Tesla hasn't figured out how to miss bugs on the highway - yet), and we pushed the window washer for the first time. For those that know it, the washer blades goes through a couple of cycles after the washer fluid stops spraying and then stops wiping. We noticed that the blade wipes had not fully cleaned off all the water when they stopped wiping, which prompted a comment from my wife of "it needs one more wipe". On perfect cue, the blade immediately did one more wipe. There was a pause in the car as we pondered "how Tessa knew that". Was there a microphone in the car monitoring and responding to our wishes that we weren't educated on? The minds wildly spun in the assignment of more intelligence to Tessa than advertised. Of course, we came to test and learn that the "2 wipes, pause, one more wipe" is the programmed cleaning mode for the wipers, but it was a fun, fantastic moment to consider that we had a HAL-type companion in our car rather than one that just had the designers pay attention to and design the optimal wiping pattern...

I have a few more "Tesla moments", but this one was my first (and favorite, so far).

Guess that's because aftermarket companies are not offering turbos and superchargers for Tesla's as yet.
Oh wait, superchargers are offered , it's a turbo we still need then. Having to wait 3.1seconds all the time is starting to really tire me out...

Y'know, they do actually let you test drive them at any dealer* I've visited... Some have "driver events" from time to time, where they bring in food and let prospective owners play with them, including The Launch**.

I was asked at a stoplight the other day if I had the car with the LAUNCH button on it (like in the YouTube videos???). I do, sometimes consider my car a land-bound rocketship, but I've never heard the INSANE button called a launch button. I had a good laugh and told him that no, my S85D, did not have the launch button. He did appreciate that the car was all electric though ;)

Does this count?

This afternoon I wanted to joyride a bit and took the long way to the grocery store. As I pull into the left lane, I see a guy with sunglasses on is smiling ear to ear, rolls down the window, and waves at me from two lanes over. I roll down the window and hear him yell "Your car is beautiful. How do you like it?" I yell back "Absolutely amazing. I'm in love. I just got it Thursday." He yells back "I know! I work at Tesla" and took off his sunglasses to reveal his is Colin, one of the local Owner Advisors from the Tesla store in Charlotte. This one tops all the other reactions I've experienced so far!! :D

Yes that counts Cyclone. How cool!

I have another to add. I just got back from another test drive. Our local bank here caught wind of my new vehicle and so I spent about 20 minutes after my deposit today, showing two tellers and the manager the car. The teller started the conversation in the bank with, "Are you in your cool car?" Surprised, I said "Yes i am!" She said, "I can't tell you how many times I've driven by your office so my 14 year old could get a look at it. He knows ALL about Tesla's." So of course I told her that we need to get him down there for a ride.

So she brought him by the office today after school and I gave him the full tour. Like the other 14 year old boy I showed, he spent the majority of the time wide eyed, grinning but not saying hardly a word. They always get a kick out of playing their favorite artist (Luke Bryan, btw) and a few launches. Needless to say he was pretty stoked.

Another Tesla lover is born!

I had a personal Tesla moment this morning. I am currently in Australia returning home tomorrow. When I am travelling I keep our "S" at 50% charge level as recommended by Tesla SC. Well today, using the Tesla App, I was able to set my charge limit to 80% to have the car sufficiently charged for our return. Everyone is amazed here that I can control our car in Canada from Australia.

Just had Automotion here in the Wisconsin Dells last weekend. BIGGEST Car show in the Midwest. Anything and everything. Turbo Charged Geo Metro's to your Supercars. Ricers everywhere. And.... They are all so... Sad and lacking. If your building your car from Autozone..... Just.... No.....

I had no intention to race, and in fact, I did not. I was egged on many times. I did use full accel from every stop light when clear ahead, noting came close... To my 60kWh....... Could hear the ricers behind me, and on the side trying to get out of first gear.... So sad that a 60 would beat them!!! Now, a p85D would have owned the whole event.

Did the same thing while in China. My car was in parents garage on a 120v to keep er happy (was -10 to +10 Degrees F while I was gone). The friday night, I raised the SOC to 90% from 50%, and let er at it. Took until Sunday night to get to 90% though. I attribute that to car needing to keep things warm with the cold weather.

I was driving home from my road trip on Sunday. Going through Madison there was this big group (over a dozen) of ricers clogging up the freeway. They were taking up all 3-4 lanes of traffic and driving really slow. Anyone who tried to pass them would be tricked into racing them. So this went on a for a few dozen miles. I finally got up close behind them and they were gearing up to race me. The last guy that just tried to get past them had two of the ricers racing up ahead 80+ miles an hour. Where is a cop when you need one. Then suddenly there's a cop! He pulled over the speeding ricers and broke up the existing group of ricers enough for me to get around without getting sucked into a race.

The guys with the big spoilers, loud fart cans, and type-R stickers. I might've missed a couple of common physical traits. :p

Edit: As per Urban dictionary: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ricer
• May 19, 2015
Lloyd
(Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt)

A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):

- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case.

The "ricer" attempts to make their car "performance" by adding the modifications listed above. These ricers are not confined to any one ethnic group or color, however different ethnic groups are known for certain styles.
Honda Civics with big spoilers and 4" exhaust tips are considered to be ricers.

Out of curiosity, does CT issue plates in sequential series? If so, might these have been licensed the same day at the same time?
I recall from ancient memory, 50 years or so ago, that sequential plates were not entirely uncommon. A friend had purchased two cars the same day from the same dealer and received sequential plates. That is the only other time I remember seeing such a thing. Those cars were not twins, as yours seem to be.
• May 20, 2015
Cerie
The CT service center/delivery team will go in and get your plate for you so they probably had both those cars done at the same time. Which means somewhere out there is another Tesla one number above or below mine as well.... :)

And yes they do issue plates in sequence. My husband and I had plates that were one off from each other until I switched cars.
• May 20, 2015
shelbri
I presume that they are issued sequentially and that Tesla registered both cars at the same time. Still, I have never seen my sequential plate so it was neat just to find the sequential plate let alone having it be the same make and model. I guess it is the little things that make me smile.

In the past week or so I have been attending various cruise in nights (primarily older hot rod type cars). While there have been plenty of Tesla Moments as a result, one from last night stands out. I was talking to some older gentlemen who were keenly interested in the car, but knew nothing about it, when one of their friends walks over wearing a Tesla cap. He starts asking about the engine, and how it does on gas and various related questions. I try joking back with him, but he repeated his questions, choosing different wording. Turns out, I assumed since he was wearing a Tesla cap, he was joking about fuel/etc. In actuality, he was wearing the hat only because his son gave it to him... he knew nothing of the car, and his questions were sincere. Once that confusion was settled, he was thrilled to hear it was electric/etc. Never judge a book by its cover (or its hat)!

I took my first long trip in my Tesla last weekend (it was great!) and there were a handful of Tesla Moments, but my favorite might have been this one that occurred quite near the end of my return drive.

I had bailed off of 95 onto 301 and was back into Maryland where the stoplights start showing up more frequently. A man in a supercharged V8 Land Rover (the one with the badging) and I had been playing leapfrog for several minutes of driving, all the while with him looking over at my car, getting into a lane to stay near mine, etc.

As luck would have it, I managed to get pole position at a light with him in the other lane a couple cars back. As the light changed, I gave it the go pedal up to my cruising speed and settled back in. After a minute or two I notice in my rear-view that he's right behind me with his phone out, both hands stretched over the wheel towards the windshield, recording me driving.

He ended up passing, and we waved to each other. I don't think he quite knew what he was looking at, but once I launched out of that stoplight he knew he needed to document it!

I got my P85D last Saturday, and have had quite a few moments over the last week (there aren't many owners here in Hampton Roads, VA).

But today took the cake.

A police officer pulled up in front of our house. As I walked outside to greet him, I saw him looking through our windows. "You're good," he replied, "somebody saw you putting your kids into the trunk and thought something was fishy. They called us to check it out. People can be nosey. Nice car! These rear facing seats are a lot safer than the alternatives - I'm guessing you're going to be getting a lot of stares with this car."

My wife's a little upset that somebody followed home from the grocery store, but all in all, another fun and interesting day with the Tesla!

Can the owner be the one on the surprise end of a Tesla moment? Met up with a friend and his wife and son today at the Charlotte Supercharger to show them the Tesla. They were enamoured and loved the car. When I gave them the demonstration of plugging into the Supercharger, I gave the unit a "slap on the back" and said this things are sturdy and people on the forums says how they used it in all weather conditions. My friend's wife smiled and said she was glad to hear it, as her company SABIC makes the plastic housing!

Weird one today: I went in to a local auto parts store on a long shot that I might be able to pick up a cabin air filter. The counter clerk didn't know what a Tesla was and said he'd never heard of that brand before. They did have a computer listing for the car, but no cabin air filter listed. 2 1/2 years ago it was common to hear "Tesla? Who makes that?" comments, but I haven't met anyone apart from today lately that hasn't heard of Tesla. Especially weird that this was at a car parts place.

I dropped off my wife where she volunteers, and I was just getting ready to pull out when I noticed a pedestrian crossing the street and gesticulating at me. Expecting the likely, I rolled down my window and put the car back in park. The fellow mentioned he had just seen one of these at a client's site a few days ago, and named [my condo building]. So I said I lived there, it was probably this one. He continued that he'd never seen one before that, and couldn't figure out what the stylized T was. The next day he asked his *ahem* younger co-workers. They knew right away and were all over him with information. He went to the web that night and "started reading up on Tesla, and then today YOU pull up!".

I gave him the minor features tour. While we were still looking at the frunk, a couple of his co-workers came out and gathered round, then a few more, the there were seven of us chatting for 10 minutes. While that was happening, coincidentally a white Fisker Karma drove slowly up and down the street, I guess looking for an address, and nobody noticed it. I pointed it out and the earlier connection between Fisker and Tesla. Then the group left... the first fellow still couldn't get over the timing of his last few days.

Ok, separate incident but us EV'rs have to stick together. Complicated things happened and I ended up at a traffic light in the right lane of a street where the right lane doesn't actually go past the intersection, but it's useful to avoid people stuck turning left from the left (driving) lane. Except the car that was stuck ended up getting out of the way and the (admittedly, bus) was now at the front, beside me, at the red light. Then a courier who drives a Leaf pulled in behind me... except the bus wasn't turning left. I figured we could both boot it and leave the bus in the dust, safely getting through the intersection back into the travel lane where we belonged. On green, I took off, and the Leaf was smart enough to be ready and easily came in behind - I gave him a thumbs up through the pano. As the road widened to two lanes in a couple of blocks he caught up beside me and we exchanged thumbs up again. 'Twas much fun!

When I drove to our local Hospital to pick up my wife (she's a physician there) I couldn't get into the doctor's parking lot since I don't have a key card. The most convenient place to park was next to the ER but in one of the empty "Emergency Vehicle Parking Only" parking spots.
After waiting for her for about 5 minutes I notice 3 uniformed security guards in my rear view mirror coming over to the car. Fearing the worse I prepared my apology.
"Sorry, I was waiting for my wife. I'll park it somewhere else right away".

One guard replied " Yes, Go park it in my driveway and leave the key in it".

Relieved they just wanted to check out the car I gave them a 10 min tour of the features. Tesla smiles all around.
