Zextraterrestrial Last weekend I was driving past one of the local 'good' grocery stores and passed a younger male with a daughter around junior highschool age. He pointed and I could see him say 'nice car'. I was smiling and looked over / back in my mirror as I passed and the girl was jumping up and down, flailing her arms and kicking her feet and screaming Tesla Tesla Tesla!
It made my day + I was listening to standup comedy so I was already laughing

ACDriveMotor The other day I took my son to a sports game. As we were walking away from my car another car pulled up and a family got out. As we were walking my son turned around and said "Dad, they are taking a picture of your car!"
Another day I happened to be parked near both an Audi R8 and a Nissan GTR. Took some pictures and showed my son who likes cars. He smiled and said to me "Dad, I bet they were taking pictures of your car and showing their kids!"

ThosEM Went to the airport to pick up daughter and son in law for their holiday visit, wife and another daughter in the car, along for the ride and greetings. Lots of luggage so some went in the trunk, some in the frunk. Two women in the next car at the pickup area came over when they saw the hood go up and luggage go in, asking "where is the engine?" Daughter says "there isn't one! It's electric." I say "well there's a motor between the rear wheels." They marvel at the lack of engine, gas or tailpipes. Fun!

MiddKid Relayed via my father...whose friend has a Model S (I'm a few weeks away from ordering mine):
My father's friend takes my father to the Giants/Eagles game at the Meadowlands. They are driving through the parking lot...side note: my Dad commented how difficult this was since no one could HEAR the car coming! They had their windows down (to call out to people to move out of the way) when a pack of Eagles fans scream out: "Hey! Your team sucks!!! But your car rocks!!!"
Anything that can bring an Eagles fan to give a compliment to a Giants fan is a truly remarkable product!

Kraken Gas station clerk was really curious this morning (I had to buy breakfast and lunch before my flight). I guess he doesn't get to see them very often in his line of work.
then going to dinner tonight, there were only four open spots in the back of the lot that looked safe.... And there was a sheriff car parked next to them too. As I attempted to park next to the Sherrif marked car (I don't trust that parking lot) I noticed a lot of broken glass in the stall I was going to park in. I shifted over a couple spots to avoid the glass. Then as I got out, so did he (had no clue he was in there). As hard as I tried, I couldn't voice my concern over the number of spots that had glad strewn throughout them (a lot of busted out windows there evidently) because he was too enthusiastic about seeing the car. I gave him a good tour.

MarkR Over the weekend, I went to Fry's Electronics. Immediately upon parking I was peppered with questions by another customer. Upon my return to the car, a Leaf owner was waiting for me. He didn't have any questions other than wanting to know if I might be willing to allow a test drive in the Tesla in exchange for a test drive in his Leaf. Leafs are boring! I think that I sold another a Tesla.

Ugliest1 A few days after we picked up our car (2 weeks ago but feels like forever now!) we drove about 60km away to a small town, just to have a drive. We parked on the street and went into a small diner to get some lunch. As we are eating 10 minutes later, an old fellow comes in, hesitates, and stops by our table. "Are you the Tesla owners? My brother and I are car nuts, and I just phoned him and told him what I was standing in front of!". I said "if you want to make your brother really jealous, I'll take you on a quick ride." So while my wife did some shopping, I showed him what electric could do, and answered all his questions. He was a nice fellow, and it wasn't as creepy as it sounds that he tracked us down into the restaurant!

Rockster I was meeting a friend at Starbucks right after Christmas and when I returned to the parking lot I found a young married couple peering into my car. They jumped back apologetically when they saw me turn the corner and began asking the usual questions. After a brief chat, I invited them to take a ride around the block. They had never even seen a Model S up close and were thrilled to ride in one. When we returned, I showed them the frunk and the footwell and they were even more impressed with all of the storage.

Mario Kadastik Was out mushing with dogs at the local ski resort and had parked my Model S nearby. At some point I was looking after the dogs and heard someone come by excitedly and tell his pals "There's a Tesla parked in the lot, come quick". They all dropped what they were doing and with eyes ablaze went to check out my carI later parked closer to where I was mushing with the dogs so I had some fun seeing how random people went and peeked into the car or walked around it
While I re-parked the car next to me had the driver next to it and while I was about to walk away I noticed that he was eyeing the car with a confused look so I asked him if he was confused about the car. He said he better keep away as it looked real nice and expensive. When I told him it's an electric he was baffled and immediately said that it looked more like a sports car and he'd never have thought it electric as he considers electrics as those small hovels (i.e. MiEV, Leaf etc). The moment it dawned on him he asked if THAT's the Tesla
Seems the media has hit it home for a lot of people that a decent electric car is a Tesla even though they might not know what it looks like. When I told him I spent 40 the past month to drive 1600km he told me he didn't need to know that (laughing).

artsci Grocery shopping today in my Model S. I come out of the store with a cart full of stuff and open the frunk to put it all in. Two middle aged guys are watching. One actually says "That frunk is cool. And it's a gorgeous car." He knew all about the Model S. Of course, they asked me what it cost. Then they stood around watching while I loaded up the frunk. When I was finished they said, "We want to hear it start up." I said "There's nothing to hear." They said, "That's the point." I drove away in silence with them watching.

crmohler Yesterday, there was construction closing a lane. I had my signal on to go into the other lane (while at a stoplight). The guy next to me gestures like crazy for to me to role down my window. I do, and he says "Since you're in a Tesla, and it's such a beautiful car, you can go ahead of me!". HHHH I haven't contributed to this thread yet, I have had quite a few Tesla moments, but I'll just share one for now.
As I was driving home from the gym a while back I noticed this Jeep Grand Cherokee trying to move up closer over my right shoulder, I saw him weaving in and out, at first I thought he was just in a hurry, but then he kept looking over his steering wheel right in my direction. He eventually pulled up next to me and motioned for me to roll my window down, I did so and he was like, "I've been following Tesla for a bit, how do you like your car?" I replied that, " I love it, it's the best thing I've ever purchased!" to which he proceeded to ask me more questions about the range, etc. I just thought to myself, "this is the future"

rsquared99 I left the Safeway yesterday at the same time as a couple of firemen who had been shopping. They were razing me about the Cubs jacket I was wearing. I asked if they had seen a Model S yet and they said no, so I invited them over to see. Opened the car up and was showing them around. Asked if they had seen the video of the S being chopped up by the Fremont fire department as a training film. I got a business card from one of the chiefs and told him I would forward the video link to them. While we were talking, a hook and ladder team came over. All in all, about 8 fire fighters were there, talking and asking questions. The only thing that was not so cool was a guy walked passed and said, "another one catch on fire?" Another Telsa fire story reference. Anyway, I offered to bring the car by for one of their training sessions so the station personnel could have a chance to look it over and learn where the safey features are on the car. They said they would contact me.

TommyBoy We had literally picked up our P85 and were on our first drive to have some cupcakes from a place called Sprinkles that is my wife's favorite. We're maybe 10 minutes into owning our car and in the Sprinkles lot a burly guy in a construction truck signals me to roll down the window. He's actually on my wife's side and she rolls it down. He says "Don't you just love it! How long have you had it?" I was embarrassed and should have been honest but I blurted out "A couple weeks". My wife looked at me and rolled her eyes but it was still a cool moment.

HHHH Yesterday, I was at the mall here in Vegas, Fashion Show to be exact, and in the Valet line at Nordstrom, there were three Porsche Panamera's all with different aftermarket wheels. A man standing next to me near the Valet attendant's podium, said, "they're beautiful aren't they?" I said yes, but that Tesla (pointing to my own) is head and shoulders above them. He said he has been considering buying a Panamera and will probably get one within the next week. He also stated his fear regarding the Tesla fires. I educated him on motor vehicle fires in general and ICE vs BEV cars, and on the new titanium shield. I feel confident that he will end up purchasing a Tesla instead of that Panamera this week.

ACDriveMotor Infinitely more people have burned to death in Porsche vehicles than Tesla vehicles (ie. N / 0). I tell people that after what I've learned about car fires I am afraid to stand near an ICE for fear that it will explode in a fireball.

Apr 28, 2014
brianman This is not "infinitely more". The rate ratio is arguably infinity but "infinity more people" is incorrect.
"Infinitely more" would imply that there exist at least "infinity + ~40k" ICE vehicle occupants that have been burned. I'm pretty sure that even overpopulated portions of Earth don't anything near infinity residents, much less passengers, much less cars, much less cars that have experienced cabin fires.
Sidenote: I'm pleased to see Tesla is using correct terminology here:
Supercharger | Tesla Motors
It's quite refreshing.
Nitpicker's corner re: sidenote: "capable of charging Model S" -- They really should qualify the "Model S" here. This performance bar is not obtainable for my car without a $xx,xxx battery retrofit. A retrofit that reportedly is not currently available despite owners asking explicitly for it.
Apr 28, 2014
iffatall The correct units in your quote should be miles per half hour, not mph. [7 kW -- 10 rated miles per 30 mins; etc]
Apr 28, 2014
ACDriveMotor I humbly concede to the pedantic concerns with my light-hearted hyperbole. There are precisely N more burned ICE occupants than Tesla, not infinitely.
But if you want to get mathematical with me I will happily rise to the challenge. It can be easily shown that n + 1 = n for any infinite cardinal number n. Or said another way, ? + n = max { ?, n } if at least one of ? or n is infinite. So you are incorrect in saying that "infinitely more" implies at least infinity + ~40K. It in fact implies only an infinite number of ICE vehicle occupants have been burned, which I've already acknowledged is incorrect.
Infinity + 40K = Infinity. There is no such thing as more or less infinite than infinite. Unless you want to talk about non-cardinal number systems...

Chipper I have attended our Chattanooga Cars and Coffee a grand total of three times. At each occurrence as soon as I pulled up the crowd began migrating in my direction and by the time I got out of the car I was being peppered with questions and the obvious envy of most of the car enthusiasts in attendance. HOWEVER, this past Saturday I gladly relinquished my "most coveted car" trophy as an Aston Martin Vanquish cruised in to join the group. All I can say is...WOW! The thing I thought that was really cool is, the Vanquish owner immediately came over, sat in my car, and spent the next 20-30 minutes asking me questions about the Model S! Both of us walked away richer for the experience. He is thinking about getting a MS for a daily driver since he doesn't want to take the Vanquish back and forth to work.

Mario Kadastik Tesla organized the first ever test drive event in Tallinn, Estonia this past weekend. They brought two cars to do drives from 9-18. The moment they announced the event it was booked full within 48h 7x overPeople still showed up to just admire the cars and I organized other Model S owners (total of 5 in Estonia now, four showed up at various times). It was a total blast. There were hundreds of people who came through during the weekend and I lost my voice the first evening, had to keep asking the hotel for honey so I could soothe the vocal cords and keep going
The event was a huge success and I think Tesla agrees. In any case there were many many Tesla moments and most people left with a huge Tesla grin
It's also all over the news now as Tesla also did some media test drives and they loved it. One newspaper brought a rally driver to try out the P85+ and he was totally blown away by it. No matter that it's a 2.2t car the handling is that of a far lighter car and while he himself drives four wheel drive rally cars he said the Model S felt as sturdy or even sturdier than a four wheel driver
It was a total blast
Though I still have to nurture my vocal cords now

2kids10horses I, too, get many questions from strangers about my Model S. I live in a rural community, and not only is mine the only Model S, and the only EV, when I went to get my "Alternative Fuel" license tag, it was the first one in the county!
But, here's my story:
I get my ICE cars (F150, Honda minivan) oil changes at one of those Havoline Oil quick lube places. So, for grins, I pull in with my Model S. The girl comes to the window, and says, "Ok, pull in to this bay over here", and points to an open bay.
I asked, "You do oil changes for all makes and models?"
"Yes, sir, we do".
"Really? I think we ought to check first. This is a new car for me."
She says, "Well, go ahead and pop the hood".
"Ok". So I did. You know what's next:
"Where's the engine?" The other attendant comes over. She says (it was two girls), "Oh, that's a Jaguar! Their engines are in the rear, silly!"
So, I pop the trunk.
"Uh, so where's the engine?", askes girl1. Girl2 says, "I think we need to get the boss!" and goes to get the owner.
Owner/manger comes out, and is saying, "Whadda mean you can't find the engine? That's a Jaguar, they're just like any other...", and stops short. He sees the frunk lid up, and there's no engine. Quick glance to the rear where I'm standing holding the little cover over theopen footwell, doing my best to look perplexed...
And then he gets it and breaks into a huge guffaw! "Girls, that's a Tesla! There is no engine!"
And we proceed to have Tesla Time for a half hour! And he thought my little joke on his staff was great fun!
I wish I had an accomplice and filmed it!

Ugliest1 I was driving to go park on the street somewhere when I noticed a car behind me that appeared to be taking all the turns I was taking. Not being paranoid (or, is that I'm not paranoid enough? I worry about that), I found a parking space and pulled in, got out, started towards the meter, noticed the other car had also parked. Well, lots of shops around, who knows. Then I hear behind me "Excuse me". Turns out the fellow is a doctor from Calgary, HIGHLY into solar, wants to outfit his house, has read about Teslas but never seen them in the wild, and had a million questions. I ended up giving him the grand tour; had to interrupt the barrage of questions to fill the meter in case a gendarme came along. While we were sitting in the car my wife phoned (wondering where I was) and he got to see how seamless the phone use is. I gave him the Vancouver store manager's business card, since I seem to have a supply of them for some reason. He must have shaken my hand 5 times at the end; he was very happy.

nakedsushi I had my first Tesla moment last night. Was picking the car up from valet after dinner. As the valet handed me the fob back, he said, "I LOVE your car." This is the first time a valet has ever said that to me. I guess my previous Toyotas were not impressive. As we were pulling out, I also heard an impressed "sheeeeeeeeeit" from the security guard on the other side.
What was the most funny was that my husband said he's not usually the type to feel emasculated by stupid things like a woman having a better car than him, but when the valet gave me props for the car as I was getting into the driver's side, and then the other valet closed the passenger side door for him, he was a little embarrassed about it.

HHHH I had a cool Tesla moment recently upon dropping my in-laws to the airport here in Vegas. I pulled up to curbside check-in at LV airport, was a crazy busy day, super long line. As I pull up, two curbside attendants nudge each other. After I opened the trunk and removed their luggage for them, one attendant was moving his lips but not making any sound, motioning for me to open it. So I did, showed it to him for a minute, and he got my in-laws to skip the line. I think they were pleased it helped them. We've been out to dinner, etc. many times together and they just shake their heads whenever someone starts to talk about the car, they're so used to it. I've been trying to talk my mother in law in to one once her MB E Class lease expires in a few months.

I ended up taking her for a spin. She was so excited she gave me a hug afterwards. Smiles all around.

Jeffruby Had a cool moment this weekend at Hershey Park in PA.
Fun driving long distance using superchargers.
Plugged into charge point right in front of chocolate world. Left car for day. Started raining and getting cool. We returned to car to get jackets. Sat on bench to rest and wait off rain 20 feet from car.
7 out of every 10 people stopped and looked (touched) car. Didn't know I was the owner. Hearing the wows and some of the propaganda (mostly innacurate) was funny. My daughter was loving it.
The one thing I hated (besides the touchers) was that the charge point is 3 feet from the curb. Do you know how many kids/adults chose to Wal between the charge point and my bumper? Jeez. Cringed every time.
I watched for 15 minutes and saw enough attention to realize crazy stuff must have happened the other 9 hours we were there.
May 12, 2014

nakedsushi I had another Tesla Moment (tm) with my new mail carrier. I happened to be stepping out of the car when the carrier walked by and he handed me my mail. Then he did a double-take on the car.
Him: Wow, nice car! I thought it was a Honda Civic at first, but then looked again. It's a sports car, right?
Me: It's more like a sporty sedan.
Him: How much was it?
Me: It starts at 60, but this one is around 80 b/c of the battery.
Him: What?? Sixty thousand? It's very nice, but not a sport car?
Me: It's all electric.
Him: It uses some gas right? I just heard your car turn off.
Me: That's the fan for the battery b/c it's 100F out here.
Him: So...do you have to get gas?
Me: No, you just plug it in! (at this point, I had to show him the cable and the charge port to convince him)
Then we had a short conversation on range, etc. I guess he recently got a Honda CRV but now has a new car to lust after.

nakedsushi Our old one who retired used to wave when I drove by even if he was down the block. I like that they're friendly like that. Usually if I'm on the way out, I ask them to just stick the mail in the slot in the door just so I don't end up losing the mail in my car somewhere. Right now we're on a string of temporary mail carriers and one of the previous ones was so terrible that I had to go down to the post office and file a formal complaint twice. He continued on, "we have great specials", "where do you get your car serviced now?" etc. etc. I tried to briefly explain that I had a car that needed no oil changes, and did not have a gas-burning engine. He replied, "oh you've got a Hybrid!" I said, "well no, it's all-electric", he says, "Oh cool, I didn't know they made anything like that, how's the reliability?" I said it was amazing and he asked who makes it, I said Tesla and he said, yea but who makes it? I said it's a car company from California called Tesla, he said he hadn't heard of them, and asked if it was a custom order. I stated that mine was but there are plenty of them out there. I had to get back to my call but I told him my car was right outside if he wanted to check it out, I saw him walking around it a few minutes later.

nakedsushi On our way out this weekend, my husband noticed a neighbor in our driveway looky-looing at my tesla. He was peering in the windows, looking at the back, etc. When I went out to talk to him, he wanted to know if it was a hybrid (even though it was clearly plugged in). Even after I said it was fully electric, he asked if I had to put gas in it. I'm surprised by how many times I have to say "No, it's fully electric, no gas at all" when explaining the car to people. I'd think that with how many bev's there are in LA, people would be used to them.
So far, the number one question people ask is if I have to put gas in it. The next question they usually ask after that is how much the car costs. I usually just say "Starts at 60" because that's a little more reasonable than telling them how much I actually paid for the car.

David99 I just had an embarrassing moment. I parked my car, a lady walks by and asks if the fires have gotten better. I instantly get 'defensive' and say that gas cars have far more fires than electric cars. The lady looks kind of puzzled and then rephrases her question. What she was asking me about were the ongoing wild fires in Southern California!
Stupid me! LOL
May 20, 2014
HHHH Ha that's a good one
May 20, 2014
Zroiron I wish I could take pictures of people who are driving on both sides of me when I'm in the middle lane who suddenly realize that there are 3 standard poodles lounging in the back area! Some of their expressions are priceless!

As I was leaving a lot, a guy in a mini-van pulls up and gestures for me to roll down the window. I oblige, fully expecting Model S questions when he asks, "Would you like to take advantage of an ordering error?" "No," I say, and as my window is going back up he stutters, "don't you want to know what I have?"
Since this was obviously some variant of the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_van_speaker_scam ,I normally would have feigned interest to string-along the con artist, but I was caught off-guard by him not asking about the car.
May 22, 2014
Greyson Just got an email from my insurance agent:
Agent: "I have been asked to find out if the Tesla is a 4 or 2 door vehicle and the number of cylinders"
Me: "4 door, 0 cylinder"
I later amended to say that it might be a 5 door given that it is a pseudo-hatchback.
May 22, 2014
HHHH Was checking my mail in front of my building yesterday, and little boy and his father were looking at my car while I ran inside. I came out and heard the man say, "wow, look at that car" so I rolled down my windows and invited the man and his 5-6 year old son to look at the car inside and ask any questions. They were stupefied.
May 22, 2014
GoBlue88 Yeah, I've been approached in a Home Depot parking lot by the same scam, except this guy was selling flat panel TVs out of his van. Not worth engaging with these con artists.

Ha, that is awesome. I will remember that one in case I get the same call.
May 22, 2014
KenN Is that still a thing? Good lord, an old roommate of mine fell for that scam over 20 years ago! I had assumed it wouldn't work any more because too many people know the scam.
May 22, 2014
liuping I friend of mine fell for this when I was in college in the mid 80's. I guess classic cons never go out style.
May 22, 2014
Denarius I string them along, tell them I need to drive to an ATM to get cash, then while driving there call the police and have them meet me at the bank.
May 22, 2014
HHHH That's awesome!
May 22, 2014
David99 I had a serious case of the 'balloon squeal' yesterday! Each time I pushed the accelerator. It didn't come from the motor, though. It was my friend's family who all screamed pretty much in sync with the amount of acceleration LOL
May 22, 2014
liuping The scam my friend fell for back in the 80's, was not technically illegal. They really did sell him speakers. They were junk, but they were real speakers.
It works, because people feel they are getting something at a super special "deal", probably too good to be true because they are stolen, etc. I don't actually have much sympathy for people who fall for it.
May 22, 2014
Denarius A few years ago our local police asked to be contacted if you were approached by them. I was approached in a fast food parking lot, they got hit with a trespassing charge.
May 23, 2014
nakedsushi I think I just got propositioned by that same scam, but at my house and this time with steak delivery men. They had a white truck with a "___ steak delivery" sign taped or magneted to the side. They were "in the neighborhood" delivering a neighbor's steaks and offered to sell me some since they had extra in the truck. Too bad I told them we were vegetarian. No memorial day BBQ for us.

Ugliest1 Ok, I've had my S85 for 5 months now, and since we're about to leave on a major road trip I thought I'd wax (or, polymer, whatever) it for the first time, and also use RainX on the windshield. The last time I did this was about 30 years ago in my early 20's, because I actually cared about the car I owned then (not that I hated all my other later ones... just different priorities). Man, I forgot how darned long it takes to wax a car! And how much of a workout it is. Where's Mr. Miyagi? And another thing, RainX is available everywhere now but when I first used it, I had to mail-order it from the factory as they didn't have any distributors in Canada (opportunity lost...).
So I get the wax coat on, and I'm starting to polish it off, and I notice there's slight streaks on the frunk, that don't seem to come out. So I'm a little bummed. Right then a guy walks by, stops, makes a nice comment about the car, and introduces himself. We chat a bit, and it turns out he works for a funeral home and is the guy who keeps all their limousines all clean and polished. So he shows me what to do about the slight streakiness. I showed him the rest of the car. We both went away happy!
EDIT: I again love my car, again!

eepic Well played sir, well played.

ghost640 Yea, don't leave us hanging!
May 27, 2014
Ugliest1 Well, it was embarrassingly simple, but remember I hadn't waxed a car for ... a little while. I had microfiber'd the glaze off, and polished some with the soft cloth, noticed the streaks, polished some more, didn't seem to do anything. But wait, ye of little faith! He just polished yet more (like, 30 seconds worth of good scrubbing in one spot), and it came up great. I was careful doing the rest of the frunk that I didn't put too much elbow grease into it, to avoid a frunk dent.
He also mentioned to wax only twice a year, and when you're ready to do the 3rd application take the car to a detailer and have them take the old wax off. Which I thought was a good idea, on a car like this. And then, he was so impressed with the car, he said when I'm ready to do the second waxing to bring it to his workplace and he'd do it for me, just so he could work on the car!
EDIT: for "wax", read "polymer" or whatever non-wax thing you're supposed to use that I only have the patience to read, understand and buy once, until the next time I have to buy a replacement. Zipper. Kleenex. Brodering. Language is fun.

GasDoc Good times at the Memorial Day Parade and Carnival in Hillsborough, California yesterday.
Thanks to TMC member jonnaro and Jerome and Stephanie from Tesla Motors for providing cars to complete our red, white and blue trio.
I've posted some pics to our Local Group section.
Couldn't believe the amount of interest and "Tesla Time" existed in this highly saturated part of the Bay Area.

cjtylr My Tesla moment consists only of the test drive I took last week. It was an absolutely incredible experience, and I can't wait to order (some day).
May 27, 2014
timpoo Similar here.
After reading everything possible about the Model S, a test car finally came to Australia. My Tesla moment was being in the car for the first time and the acceleration off the line. I realised that nothing you read could prepare you for how fun the real thing is, and that in the future Model S owners will be proud to be among the first to own a next generation vehicle and lifestyle.

David99 I have a friend who is into fast cars. He posted on his Facebook about his latest car and I messaged him saying we should do a race and that I would sure beat him on the 1/4 mile. He replied he got a Nissar GTR, 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and the fastest lap ever at the Nuerburg Ring. Then he asked what I got. My only reply was: OK, you win.then I quickly changed the subject hahaha

ErikO We were in Idaho Falls, ID and had pulled over to the curb in a residential area. While getting out of our car, we see a gentleman get out of his BMW that had just pulled up behind us. (We had just given my wife's 93 year old uncle and his 86 year old cousin a ride.) The man says, "I was behind you and thought it was a Tesla but had to go around the block to make sure." He eagerly accepted an invitation to drive the car and drove it around the neighborhood with his daughters in the back seat. It seemed to confirm his interested in purchasing a Model X. We have provided many such test drives plus drives to our neighbors since receiving the car at the end of March.

ckessel I had a bunch of moments after I got my car in Dec 2012 with lots of folks asking about it, but I haven't had anyone ask about it in many months now. I guess there are enough in Portland, OR that anyone that cares already knows what they want to know.

Jhall118 Some of my favorite Tesla moments in Seattle:
1) An SUV pulled up next to me at the Supercharger, rolled down their windows, and took a photo of my car with me inside it! Then when they realized I was inside they got out and we talked Tesla for a while.
2) Dropped off the wife at the DOT this morning, and some guy randomly walked up my car looking inside... again with me in it! I rolled down the windows and ended up giving him a test ride.
3) A guy in a red truck (around my age, 26ish), rolled down his windows and yelled "F$^& you, you rich Cock###### Fag". I'm not rich, so I just smiled and gave him a thumbs up. Then I smoked him at the green light haha.
I have been driving for Uber/Lyft lately, and the response to the car is incredibly positive. I am sure I have sold at least two, and plenty of Gen 3's.

Botbldr45 After driving 992 for three years and only seeing one MS on the road ( in MD.... Although there are supposed to be plenty of them in the area) I was caught frozen in the moment when I walked out of a store in Crofton to see this beautiful scene. That was my Tesla moment!

gg_got_a_tesla @Botbldr45, you probably made their day as much as they did yours. Very cool! Even in the Tesla-saturated Bay Area, the Roadster has become a very rare sight indeed.

arondaniel Not just CA. Here in VA turn signals seem to be considered a sign of weakness and you often won't be let over when using them. Mostly north in DC and a bit less so in southeast VA.
I still use them though. I figure, better to telegraph my intention and wait for someone patient enough to let me over.
Tesla moment: nice security guard today said my car was talk of the town and was full of compliments. Not used to the attention but I did remember to thank him. Odd thing is I only go there maybe once every other week!

Greyson Second day with the car, two Tesla Moments:
#1 Driving by a park giving a ride to some of my co-workers. A guy starts yelling, pointing, and running towards us from the park and catches up to us at a red light. All he wants to do is ask how it rides
#2 On my way to CVS to pick up a prescription some guy in an Audi pulls up behind me and starts eyeballing the car; he then pulls into my right blind spot to get a better look. When I get into the LEFT turn lane he suddenly darts over behind me and follows the rest of the way to CVS. As we're getting out of our cars, he quicky and loudly announces "I am not a stalker!" -- at which I giggle because I had just thought that particular thought. Turns out that he had just test driven one in Columbus the week before. While we were talking, another guy comes over. "Hey, is that the new Maserati?" My stalker Jim and I just look at each other and laugh.

Denarius A week or two ago I was driving north on I-15 between Provo and Salt Lake City and a black sedan pulls up next to me with the owner doing the "we're not worthy" bow out his window, with both arms. His wife/gf was sitting in the passenger seat holding the steering wheel so they didn't go off the road.

Regardless of being worried about the safety of my wife and child in the car I couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Jun 6, 2014
HHHH That's awesome! I had someone in a Range Rover recently eyeballing the car ask me how I like it, etc. Then he announced he works in my building and I think my car prompted him to get one! Great to be able to influence people positively.

Pate My second Tesla moment. I was coming home from visiting my sister on the other side of the town we live, with my parents in my Tesla with me. We stopped on a local spring to get some water. There were two other cars there. My father and myself waited for our turn, got our water canisters full and went back to my car. My mother was sitting in my car during the time, and said that the guy that was at the spring before us walked a full 360 degrees around my car, before going back to his car. He either did not notice my mom sitting at the back seat or did not care.

hsctiger93 One week into ownership, here are my favorite moments...
1. First time with a good acceleration with the kids in the back seat, my oldest says, "It's just like Verbolten!" For those of you not from my part of the country, Verbolten is a roller coaster ride at Busch Gardens Williamsburg that has an uphill accelerator feature at the beginning of the ride that sends everyone back into their seats.
2. Neighborhood had a casino night in our clubhouse. Dude showed up in a new Maserati. No one went to look at it- they were all hovering around my MS.
3. Kids encouraging me to honk the horn at people peeking too closely at the car when we can see it in the parking lot from our seat at restaurants. Haven't done it yet.
Generally speaking everyone who has come up to talk about it knows the brand and a little about it. They've all been polite. Several have asked about cost (a sore subject for many, including me) and I dodge the question by just saying it's expensive.
Jun 11, 2014
techmaven Very cool!
Last fall, at the Short Pump movie theater, a few kids were checking out the car which is fine. We were watching them from afar. Then they went up and touched the door handles, and we started to freak out that they might do something more. But before we could honk the horn on the app, they went away.

GoBlue88 2 weeks into ownership here. A security guard was scoping out my S85 a few days ago in my work parking lot. So happens that I turned on the A/C from the mobile app from my office because I was about to leave. As I'm walking out, he walks in and says "is that your Tesla?". I say it is. He says "It seems to be on!!". LOLz. I had to tell him that was the A/C.
I've also been asked the cost question, including by this security guy. I always say that it starts around $68K and goes well past $100K depending on the options you get. Haven't had any follow-up questions to that.
Jun 11, 2014
Ugliest1 Same strategy but in Cdn$ pricing. I also don't get follow ups to that, but I do get lots of disappointed looks!
Jun 11, 2014
ThosEM Truth be told, that is Botbldr's own electric blue roadster, as you can tell from his avatar. Not sure who has the white Model S around these parts, but there are now three MS driving daily to Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt MD, including mine. And there are a couple of others in the Annapolis area.
Jun 13, 2014
KenN More of an "EV moment" than a Tesla moment I suppose, but guy driving a Leaf gave me one of those "hey bro" waves as I passed him this morning. I wasn't expecting it, so my "back at ya" wave was a bit weak ...
Jun 13, 2014
theheff I get a lot of double-takes as the Model S isn't as common here... I'll admit that it's fun to see people still watching in the rear-view mirror.
Jun 13, 2014
andydoty I particularly love the flashing lights from cell phone cameras in the rear view mirror. Never saw that one coming...

GoBlue88 A lady pulled up next to me today and said "Nice car sir!". After I said "thanks", she then asked if I would like to sell it.
Jun 14, 2014
FLDarren This happened on my way home from delivery. I pulled up to an intersection and a Ford C-Max (I think it was a C-Max) pulled up beside me. There were 4 people in the car. The lady in the back seat said "You know you have my car, right?" She said the only thing different would be the interior color. I then said, "I guess I have to show you what she can do, right?" Then all 4 heads started going up and down vigorously. Then I smoked them. Awesome first day!
Jun 14, 2014
Btrflyl8e I've been watching for this post! That's awesome. Glad you had a great Tesla moment on Day One.
Jun 14, 2014
paulkva Little League tonight. Game ends and we start packing up. Son says "Daddy, there's a crowd of people standing behind your car." I walk up and put his gear in the trunk, assuring the bystanders from the opposing team they're not in my way. Then the questions start.
So do you like the car? (Love it.) Is it really as good as everyone says? (Better!) How many miles can it go on a charge? (265, then a long discussion ensues about how I always have as much range as I need because I charge at home.) Have you used a supercharger yet? (Another long discussion about being able to drive up & down the east coast and across the country, and how a snack + bathroom break is enough charging time to get to the next stop.) How long did you have to wait for yours? (Roughly 2 months.) Oh, that's not bad at all!
Refreshingly, no questions about price. Several compliments later, they leave. Then as I finish loading the car, a black P85 drives by. We exchange a friendly wave and I offer a thumbs-up.
Great way to end a day that started at the Rockville service center, where I spent over an hour talking Tesla with Erick (who checked me in and out) and another customer with a blue 60. And all almost exactly a year after my first test drive (Father's Day 2013).
Jun 14, 2014
andrewket Poor Erick. I've had several long Tesla talks with him as well. He must be tired of us.

I later parked closer to where I was mushing with the dogs so I had some fun seeing how random people went and peeked into the car or walked around it
