andrewket With the exception of PatT's car (VIN 6373) all of the cars that have entered production thus far have black interiors, order dates in the 10/9-10/11 range, and re-confirmed between 10/23-25.
- - - Updated - - -
So has anyone gone into production that didn't have an EOL date of 11/24?
Nov 25, 2014
sundoc Thanks my man! My original build was back in July with a delivery date in Oct, I think I've posted this here before: that build was completed 2 days before the D was announced... So suffice it to say this has been a LONG time in the making!
I still think ours may very well come on the same truck, though.
Nov 25, 2014
NOLA_Mike I'm trying to remember from the last time but when during this build process does the car show up in the Mobile App? I was thinking after the 4 or 5 day build process is when the car showed up in the App but I can't remember.
If that's the case, some should start seeing theirs come to life by the end of this week...

GonzoDad My P85D is in production! (VIN 64331) I'd called my DS yesterday to express concern that my confirm date was so far after the order date (10/15->11/13) in relation to others in the sheet, and to my great surprise he said that his system showed my car in the queue for this week. Thankfully, he was correct!
After doing a fair amount of analysis on the sheet looking at dates, options, VINs, locations, etc., there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to when cars are moving in to production, mine included. Perhaps when we have more data some clear patterns will emerge. Meantime, hopefully my vehicle will serve as some encouragement for others... you could be next!
Nov 25, 2014
flyboyzz1 Has anyone had their car go into production and had their DS still not give them a firmish delivery date? I just called my DS to work on financing and they still offered no delivery date. Didn't really even tell me a specific week just Mid December. I could be wrong but I would think that if a car is in production they should know when it is expected to get off the line and on a truck?
Nov 25, 2014
yoyo It seems like a Chicago thingDS only says when it is CLOSE to production COMPLETE, he will set a date/time.
I am assuming they would load up the truck for Chicago for Mid December. So they may all come on the same truck

Nov 25, 2014
commasign I'm in same boat. My DS has been basically useless, refusing to even speculate when car would enter production, and now not answering my emails even after my car has been in production for 4 days. I'm just gonna keep refreshing my Tesla page until the option to select a delivery day and time pops up.
Nov 25, 2014
EarlyAdopter My DS emailed me a few hours after I noticed my production status change in the dashboard. He offered a delivery date, somewhat conservative (slightly more than two weeks from start of production) due to the upcoming holiday weekend. Said he'd be able to give a more accurate date after the Thanksgiving weekend. So far he's been great.
Nov 25, 2014
Aargau Just talked to mine as I've got a trip to NYC 13th-14th. He said my car is scheduled to go into production next week, ready week after that, so should be right around 11th-12th.
He also said this week will be a bit wonky on production due to the Thanksgiving Holiday (not just the assembly line, but other Tesla employees)
Nov 25, 2014
NOLA_Mike I hope mine (in production this week) isn't subject to any tryptophan induced mistakes on the assembly line...

Nov 25, 2014
breser I think you should forever refer to your car as a turkey.
Nov 25, 2014
MarcG FYI, at the factory today and about to take the tour. While waiting, I was chatting with a delivery team member who mentioned that the status update on My Tesla does lag and can take a few days to update. So it's probably good to refrain from drawing final conclusions for the specific "In Production" dates (to-the-day).
Nov 25, 2014
FourBucks Those will make for some nice Christmas presents! (or Hanukka, Kwanzaa, Eid, etc...)
Nov 25, 2014
ArtInCT I am so happy to hear the P85D's are entering production!
Nice Holiday Present.
Cant wait to see the first delivery pics....
Does anyone have any plans to do videos or some top end photo essays?
Is there a "Pool" going on as to who get's theirs delivered first? (West Coasters have the advantage there especially for factory delivery!)
Cant wait and am excited for you.... next year at this time, my order will be in.
Vicarious in CT.
PS: Know of one P85D on order here in CT but that future owner has not logged their car in to the spreadsheet, and perhaps my not be here on TMC.
Nov 25, 2014
koreth Today my estimated delivery date changed from "December" to "Late December." Which doesn't contradict what my Tesla rep told me (namely, possibly as early as the 18th but most likely the week of the 22nd) but wasn't what I was hoping to see when I hit refresh!
Nov 25, 2014
andrewket I'm in production! 63588.
Nov 25, 2014
jpet That's interesting. When is your expected delivery? I see you received a 2014 VIN.
I thought they would only start building P85Ds for Europe in January.
Nov 25, 2014
Dallas1 Congrats Andrew!!!
Nov 25, 2014
NOLA_Mike Congrats! Another non-black interior. Will you do the Reus audio upgrade again?
Nov 25, 2014
randompersonx Some rough back of napkin math shows that if they continue at this pace, within 1 week, or two at the most, everyone's P85D should either be in production, or completed production.
Nov 25, 2014
marchyman Hiding VINs and blanking out license plates in images is mostly done in a mistaken belief that you are somehow more secure. Not true, but if it makes people feel better there is no harm. One real reason to hide such data on web forums is if you think your real name is super secret and that no one can tie your forum handle to your real name. In that case hiding VIN/License is understandable. Otherwise someone could use your VIN/License to figure out your real name (if they don't mind spending a little bit of time and/or money).
Now, will all of you who ordered a P85D please get your cars so the factory can get around to building my S85!
Nov 25, 2014
LetsGoFast My guess is that a much higher percentage of the very early orders are likely to be members of this forum and that there are more people with later orders who don't post here, so the pace will probably slow once we burn through the first week or so of P85Ds
Nov 25, 2014
MarcG Update from the factory tour: the usual guy who does them wasn't available today (he's probably on vacation this week) so another dude from a store, probably ownership advisor, was giving the tour.
We spent waaay too much time in the beginning talking about the factory's history, Tesla's history, the first production of roasters, etc. before we finally got going in the tram.
Then we spent a stupid amount of time standing (outside the tram) next to a sample, inactive robot that is designed to feed the stamping machine, and listening to the dude give a way-too-detailed explanation of the stamping process.
When I finally asked whether we would see the D line, he first wasn't sure what I was talking about, then when I clarified he claimed they hadn't entered production yet (!) and were preparing parts for them first.
Then we zipped through the actual assembly lines very quickly, barely getting any explanation as to what was happening besides the obvious ("here you can see the seats being added" DUH!!)
So I didn't even get close to any significant parts that would indicate their VIN, nor did I spot any front motors being added to the chassis - though it doesn't mean they weren't there, we were probably just going too fast.
All in all a disappointing experience, though it doesn't take anything anyway from the impressive facility itself. Just wished "dude" was more knowledgeable and spent more time by the assembly lines and knew what he was talking about.
Nov 25, 2014
andrewket I haven't decided yet. I need to talk to Cliff. The rear view mirror assembly has been modified to accommodate the forward looking camera. I'm curious to see how Reus re-engineers their solution to accommodate. I also don't have the 3rd row this time, which gives me additional options on sub-woofers and power.
- - - Updated - - -
This is likely true.
- - - Updated - - -
Bummer. Sorry to hear this. It sounds like the guy giving the tour spent time on the topics he had knowledge on as a sales guy, and tried to skip over the manufacturing areas/topics where he had less knowledge. Unfortunate for you.
Nov 25, 2014
darthy001 delivery is estimated as late february.
I don't have any wish for the world to know who I really am. Mostly to not get the company I work for related to whatever I write on these forums. Not that I think I have anything to hide really, but better to be safe than sorry. we do have oil-companies as customers

Nov 25, 2014
Dallas1 The Ground should be on top, right? That is how it looks on my computer...
Nov 25, 2014
MarcG Looks correct to me, the ground rounded prong is at the top and the three slits are facing vertically.
Dallas1, you and I ordered at the same time so I believe we should be entering production around the same time.
Andrew, it looks like the VIN order isn't correlating well with the production start date. However, order date definitely has a higher correlation. Okay to sort by production start date, then by order date (instead of VIN)?
Nov 25, 2014
sundoc Congrats Osama!
As I said up earlier in this thread.. I think our cars will all be on the same truck. Red, Black and Grey D's. Looking forward to crossing paths at Lawrence.
Nov 25, 2014
stevezzzz I, too, see it rotated 90 clockwise from the correct orientation. An iOS Safari thing?
Nov 25, 2014
breser Apple's decision not to rotate images and just set the orientation flag and hope that the displaying program does the right thing strikes again.
Nov 25, 2014
MarcG I'm using Safari on my Mac and it's displaying the image just fine.
Nov 25, 2014
Aargau Black seats seem to be batched first for P85D.
All but two in production are black seats, the other two tan. I've got grey, so looks like they're batched for production later. Makes sense since the black seats were originally the only choice and were probably sourced first.
Nov 25, 2014
andrewket Changed it to production date, and then order date ...
- - - Updated - - -
Another iPhone meta-data in the pic problem. On my iPhone it shows the ground to the right, the slots going horizontal. On my Mac it shows ground plug on top, slots vertical. Fun.
- - - Updated - - -
So we're still updating the P85D spreadsheet, and making changes.. sorting it differently... etc etc. Do we want to keep doing this, or pivot to the new "All Model S" spreadsheet? The primary reason as I see it to keep using the P85D spreadsheet is that it's focused, and a bit simpler. It's a tad faster to get at the information you want to see. The new global spreadsheet certainly gives you a broader view of factory output. I'm happy to maintain the P85D list until January or so and then kill it... but right now we're just being inconsistent. Sooooooo..... what say all of you?
Nov 25, 2014
sundoc
Just like you Andrew, I find P85D spreadsheet easier to get the pertinent info.... but like the 'master' list for an overall picture of whats happening. I say keep this one going for now as well...
Nov 25, 2014
breser I'd like to have one sheet but I understand the complexity issue. I've been pondering removing some fields that I think are pointless. Like the order state field. Most of the states are obvious from the dates. It made more sense for reservations when Tesla wasn't building anything yet. The only thing it's still useful for is the on the truck state, that I don't think Tesla is even using anymore.
So it'd save me the hassle of walking though the sheet to sync them every night. However, I've noticed I now have at least one entry that you don't. So keeping both sheets is going to require syncing two ways.
Nov 25, 2014
Dallas1 - - - Updated - - -
My vote is to KEEP the P85D spreadsheet going! The P85D's are a small community and it's nice to have our own sheet to check.
- - - Updated - - -
That would be cool. We should make it a contest. If yours goes first, I'll buy you a drink the next time your in Dallas. And Vice Versa when I'm in San Fran.
Nov 25, 2014
MarcG Thanks Andrew! Hmm, my VIN just went into production in the last couple of hours, so my theory of "order date is highly correlated with production date" has just jumped out the window... not complaining though

Nov 25, 2014
andrewket Historically the confirmed date is what mattered. But since we had the forced re-confirm on the early P85D orders, all bets are off.
Nov 25, 2014
MarcG I see, well in this case should we sort by production start date first, then by confirmed date?
You know what, never mind - I forgot about the EU deliveries that confirmed early but don't have VINs yet.
So perhaps your original sort by production start, then by VIN, makes the most sense. Sorry for the confusion, just trying to find the pattern here!!
By the way, I changed my delivery location from San Rafael to the Fremont factory yesterday - maybe that triggered the production? Who knows...
- - - Updated - - -
Did yours enter production yet? If not, I'm looking forward to that drink next time I'm in Dallas! (who knows when that will be... last time I was there was in 2011 for a solar power conference!)
Nov 25, 2014
randompersonx I ordered on 10/9 just as soon as the website came back up.
Mine is not yet in production.
PatT's was the first Tan interior that went into production, and he ordered on 10/10. Order date is clearly not the factor determining build order.
I bet production order is purely about batching things for trucking.
Nov 25, 2014

MarcG Looks like Tesla is finally catching up on emails. I got an email this morning at 4:30am PST stating that my Model S has entered production, which is fine since it just happened yesterday late afternoon. But the funny part is that it was immediately followed by another email stating I was just assigned a VIN - now that one is over three weeks late!!

MyTesla says "Production of your car has started in Fremont", wasn't the case last week but can't confirm exact date of switch, soz.
And many thanks to Andrew for this thread and data sheet.
Nov 26, 2014
Dallas1 This does indeed make waiting more difficult. The insane acceleration description great, but it should be a warning: Do not let anyone else drive your P85D. I will not be letting my friends drive it (like I have with previous cars), and I will be scared to let my wife drive it. If my kids were of driving age, it would be off limits.
Nov 26, 2014
Aargau I've asked Tesla if we can set a parental control on the car. To me, having a car with superb collision avoidance and assist would be the ideal car to teach my 15 year old to drive, as long as I could limit the acceleration and top speed.
Nov 26, 2014
andrewket Experimenting...
Now sorting by in production date and then scheduled delivery date (as an approximation to EOL).
Nov 26, 2014
MarcG Interesting idea. Do note however that scheduled delivery dates may not be very meaningful yet. In my example, the date I entered was the first day of the week that my DS originally thought it could be delivered. However it will likely be a week earlier, but I still don't have an exact date.
EDIT: also, delivery location can throw a link in the estimation since it could take an extra week or two to deliver in further locations than locally.
Maybe it is now worth adding the production end date column, since production started last week?
Nov 26, 2014
gg_got_a_tesla Did those of you whose cars are in production receive updated MVPAs that reflect the VIN number?
I haven't yet and need it to proceed with the loan funding process (the loan having been approved at 2.19% for 60 months by Bank of America).
Reached out to DS but received an out-of-office email regarding his being out through the T'giving long weekend.
Nov 26, 2014
MarcG Yep, had it for a couple of weeks now so no need to be in production to get the VIN on your MVPA! Call Tesla headquarters and they'll sort you out.
Nov 26, 2014
gg_got_a_tesla Thanks, Marc. Will do.
Nov 26, 2014
MarcG Actually now that I look more closely at the final MVPA with Final Price Sheet, it seems the following items are no longer listed:
19" Michelin Primacy Tire Upgrade
Fog Lamps
Alcantara Upper Dashboard Trim
Parcel Shelf
These used to be listed in my previous delivery configuration, MVPA, vehicle configuration, etc. PDFs. Do you guys still see them on your final document?
Nov 26, 2014
Dallas1 Have all of you received your Docusign agreement? I'm still waiting on mine...
Nov 26, 2014
commasign Yes, all of these items listed plus other items. This is actually a lot more detail than what is displayed through the "view design".

- - - Updated - - -
If you're getting external financing, you can ask Tesla to prepare the documents sooner since your lender would need those for your loan. If you're using Tesla financing, the paperwork will probably come closer to delivery.
Nov 26, 2014
MarcG Nope not yet. I'm financing through Tesla so it should be ready soon.
Hmm what you show looks like my "old" MVPA, which has the first three items broken out separately (and a bit redundant in their description, if you ask me).
OTOH, my latest and "final" MVPA basically combined them to show the $104k P85D "base price" in one item:
![]()
Note the lack of the fog lamps, alcantara dashboard trim, parcel shelf... it seems that this just replicates what you see on the website's order page, in the same order too.
My older MVPA had the aforementioned items in a different order. Anyway, I'll just ask to confirm that those items are still included (most likely yes, but if I'm going to sign a document I'd rather have it accurately reflect what's included!)
Nov 26, 2014
breser My 85D order does not have any of these items listed (and they are all applicable to it).
Michelin Primacy tires are standard for 19" rims now for all vehicles even S60s.
Fog Lamps are part of the Tech Package.
Alcantara Dashboard trim is part of the Alcantra headliner option now.
Parcel Shelf has been standard for quite a while.
Makes sense they'd start dropping these from the MVPA.
Edit: One thing to keep in mind, converted orders may have a weird Vehicle Configuration listing. I believe it's actually possible to order a P85D with the old split interior/lighting/yacht floor packages if it was converted from an older order. That's one reason why I still have some of these options split out on the master order sheet.
Nov 26, 2014
gpetti I have nothing yet. I emailed today and they expect to have my paperwork together in the next couple of days, I'm not sure if the trade in slows things down a bit. They'd have had my car for about a week now and it still appears to be linked to my myTesla etc. they're probably struggling to keep up with the sudden increase in incoming cars as well as cars being sold. I guess they'll soon get tired of me flashing the car lights and honking the horn
Nov 26, 2014
breser I've been watching my old car head south on I-5 (on a truck) since yesterday afternoon. I'm surprised their intake procedure doesn't have them turn off remote access.
Nov 26, 2014
gpetti Just to give credit where credit is due, my DS has been pretty accurate and forthcoming with dates and has told me that my car will be in Vancouver by the 8th. He hasn't written it in blood but he seems reasonably confident that a truck with a few cars will be arriving then. The drive from there to my home city is less certain as local independent drivers are involved.
I know he sometimes logs into TMC so now he knows I'm counting on him! Don't disappoint me!
Nov 26, 2014
MarcG I just asked the Tesla financing specialist I've been working with about Docusign and he said I'll just be signing paperwork in person at delivery... wonder why that is.
Nov 26, 2014
breser There was no Docusign on my order that was delivered in September in Seattle.
I'd bet the Docusign is done for orders where the car is sold before it's put on the truck because they can't sell the cars in the delivery state. In the case of cars where the car is actually sold at delivery, there is no reason to mess with that and can just use paper documents.
Nov 26, 2014
Andyw2100 I don't think your grey interior should have delayed your getting a VIN. The theory has been that it may be delaying production by a week or two, but I got my VIN (for my grey interior) at about the same time everyone else was getting theirs. Not yet in production, but wouldn't expect to be, with an estimated delivery date of week of December 22.
Nov 26, 2014
3s-a-charm Sounds like you're on the first batch. Mine is likely to be on the next batch as they think it will be in Vancouver closer to the 20th-23rd. The anticipation brings jubilation!
Nov 26, 2014
andrewket I've been waiting for the signed sales order for several days. DS told me yesterday that the DMV group within Tesla who apparently produces the document is having IT related problems :\
Edit: To be precise, I'm referring to the docu-sign version that has signatures. This is with EFCU wants. I received the non-signed versions of the MVPA 1-2 weeks ago that has all the pricing/config options.
Nov 26, 2014
MarcG Quick update from my DS: the production schedule is apparently slowing down for the Thanksgiving break, so he scheduled my delivery date for Wednesday Dec. 10th @ 2pm in Fremont.
When pressed as to why so late, he admitted it was a very conservative estimate and it could well be done earlier.
My thinking is that since my VIN entered production yesterday, it should normally be done by next Monday, Dec 1st. Give it an extra couple of days for T-giving slowdown, plus another day or two for delivery prep, and I'm looking at mid- to late-next week delivery. Exciting times!
Nov 26, 2014
gpetti My car has finished building and is now being prepared for delivery! I don't know what weekend days they worked but 5 days have elapsed including the weekend.
Nov 26, 2014
randompersonx Has the car showed up in the My Tesla smartphone app?
Nov 26, 2014
breser This doesn't happen until the car has been flagged as delivered by Tesla. I was told in September that it might take a couple days for it to do so but it was there by the time I got home. It was not there before I went to pickup the car.
Nov 26, 2014
MarcG Awesome, congrats!! Looks like you'll have it next week then.
Andrew, can we please have an "End production date" column next to "Entered production date"? I'm curious to see how long everyone's P85D is taking to get built.
Nov 26, 2014
andrewket Yep.. Will add it in a few hours.
Edit: This is now done. You'll notice two new fields on the summary tab. # of completed orders, and average # of days in production.
Nov 26, 2014
sundoc congrats!!
looks like you'll be the first P85D in Canada

Nov 26, 2014
gpetti Not sure if that will be the case. Although the car appears to be ready a couple of days early it will still be on the same truck headed to vancouver for December 8th. Although I will officially take delivery in vancouver but it won't literally be in my hands until more like the 11th or so. Still it is great to know the car is fully built now!
- - - Updated - - -
It will be hard to tell with mine whether they have sped up the process any or whether they are working 6/7 days a week. As others have mentioned it seems to take about 5 days normally but I wondered if batching things up with limited options might have fast tracked things a bit. If it did take 5 days then they are working through weekends. I guess it will be easier to see when one of th Monday starts is complete.
Nov 26, 2014
EarlyAdopter Awesome! Congrats!
This is so much fun. Keep the updates coming everyone. Last time around two years ago Tesla didn't have any of these systems in place to give status.
Nov 26, 2014
gpetti I have heard tell of early customers who said they got early access; however, my experience is as breser says. As I went to vancouver to officially accept the car, after I had signed it off as delivered, the app was enabled shortly after. This allowed me to monitor the car's voyage from Vancouver to Calgary. In retrospect seems a bit extreme but no doubt I will do this again if I can

Nov 26, 2014
patp Mine just entered production today. Just appeared recently.
Nov 26, 2014
breser Of course you will. I'm still stalking my old car and that's a car that isn't mine anymore. Though I am a little curious what Tesla does with it.
Nov 26, 2014
andrewket I went out of my way to get Tesla to unbind my login from my old car. I didn't want there to be any doubt if the car happened to be stolen, etc..
Nov 26, 2014
gpetti I've been doing the same thing. It was picked up in a hurry but then it never actually left Calgary for at least a day.

I hadn't thought about that. Currently I guess it is essentially still my car as I haven't yet received any paperwork though I did sign over my registration. Think I might ask them to unbind mine too. Ideally they should want that anyway. Out with the old....

PlanB You have an 85D on order?, when is it set to arrive?.....I just built one and it said March delivery =(
Nov 26, 2014
breser February.

I'm sure there's a log that would show if you unlocked/started the car via the app. I suspect that I'll be removed by the end of the week or early next week anyway.

Yeah I guess it sorta is still my car. I signed the paperwork but they haven't paid me yet, said it takes 7-10 days. I guess I'll get payment next week sometime given the holiday.

Hands_Free Just went into production.

PlanB Just so you people don't have a break down, my dashboard said that my car was still being made when it was on a truck arriving in Portland. The dashboard can be slow to update.

andrewket Congrats!

Aargau Oops. Kinddog is the first, my mistake...
"Congrats on the first grey interior to enter production. Gives me hope."
Nov 26, 2014
randompersonx 63951 just went into production.
I hope everyone at the Tesla factory is having a happy thanksgiving, wouldn't want a grudge-built "had to work on a holiday" car!
Nov 26, 2014
tezzla If Tesla was notified about the transfer/sale of the car, the old car won't disappear until you logout of the app.

darthy001 Finally got my details added to the spreadsheet here.

island Pearl P85D, next gen grey, 66697 - confirmed 2 days ago. Moving from a BMW M3, should be fun.

LetsGoFast ![]()
Website status changed to "In Production" between 7:55 and 8:00pm Wednesday. Also got an email from a different DS than I've talked to on the phone asking for a scan of my DL and insurance paperwork today. Will ask her if she has a schedule update.
Wonder if the factory will work through Thanksgiving. I actually hope not.
Nov 27, 2014
3s-a-charm I've had 2 M3's (E92 and currently an E46 Cab) - should be interesting for sure. I think the biggest adjustment will be a) the lack of noise and b) the size!

Quit hogging all the production spots and let us have a turn! ;-)
Nov 27, 2014
Firewired I likewise have had several, M3s, a couple of RS4s. I am hoping the P85D has the AWD road hugging feel that I liked in the RS4 minus the understeer from having the big heavy engine way out front.

zzzzdoc Just got e-mail this morning that it went into production. Happy Thanksgiving to me!!!!
The spreadsheet appears locked to me, so I can't update my entry.
Nov 27, 2014
stevezzzz Try re-linking from the first post in the thread; that's what i had to do yesterday when I updated the spreadsheet. Also, don't try updating from an iOS device.
Nov 27, 2014
andrewket I updated it for you. I put the in production date as 11/26; my observation is that the email is typically sent a day after the dashboard is updated.

I'd love to hear from pdx, commasign, wk057, and jgsuperstar29, all of whom have production start dates of 11/21. Is your MyTesla now showing complete?
Nov 27, 2014
gpetti I have never received an email for any dashboard changes and I can't see anyway to set this up.
Nov 27, 2014
commasign Mine is still showing as in production. Will be calling my DS tomorrow for an update.
Nov 27, 2014
randompersonx I highly doubt the DS will be in the office until Monday.
Nov 27, 2014
commasign Mine said she's working tomorrow and to give her a call for an update.
Nov 27, 2014
3s-a-charm My DS confirmed my delivery date will be between Dec. 24 - 29. He said it was pushed up a week. Still no update on "production status" on MyTesla.
Nov 27, 2014
gpetti It seems very strange to me that none of the other production starts from the 21st have seen completed. Possibly they are enjoying the Thanksgiving break and taking time off from refreshing web pages? While I'm also glad that my car seems to be running ahead of the pack, it also doesn't make much sense. I guess its possible that there are a bunch of Western Canada deliveries (with owners who are not on the TMC) all being delivered in my time frame, i.e. I'm part of a bigger movement. Anyway, below, picture that it did happen:
