Just got the same email. Could find a "right now" button, so I opted for December. :)

Congrats on getting your car! I get the feeling that it was sitting on the test track among many other mostly done cars and the delivery team didn't realize it until you prompted them!

Amazing that P7577 has a "strong possibility" of getting delivery in Dec. Lucky you!

Seems to be around P3500+ to around P8000ish getting these emails. P7577 getting this email is not a huge surprise, as Tesla's not following sequence number exactly and we've already seen a delivery in the upper P3000s.

With 10-15% cancellations, and more than 40% Performance or normal 85kWH, what total deliveries for 2012 woudl this imply?
    1200 sig
    250 can sig
    (8000-3000) * .4 = 2000

    about 3500?

I'm sure that's wrong, but makes me wonder.

I received this as well, for a Pennsylvania delivery. Which is funny because I was told just yesterday that my car wouldn't likely enter the production line until the week of December 17, with a slim-to-none chance of 2012 delivery.

I figured that my specs are pretty much consistent with a black sig so they most likely can complete production immediately

I also received the email about December delivery. Followed by a call from my delivery specialist that my car has a VIN and delivery range of Dec 16th - 30th.

I didn't get the VIN over the phone but will post it once I get it.

    Update: VIN # 1936

I also received the 'December Delivery' email even though my Finalized configuration includes the Multi-Coat Red, which will not be available until March(?). I therefore believe the email was sent out to everyone in the Production Que. I will await my chosen color, even if it mean March/April/May delivery.

"Yes, I would really, really like December delivery"

I suspect that they blasted this out to pretty much all 85 kWh orders out there within reason (batching, geography etc.)

Looks like there are a lot of 60s and 40s out there given how deep Tesla's going with this.

The polls here on TMC were always skewed heavily towards the 85 and performance 85, but possibly just due to nature of the audience of the TMC. I guess the general audience are leaning far more heavily towards the 60 and 40 packs. Hopefully it's not due to massive cancellations or deferrals.
  • Dec 6, 2012
    ModelS1079
Agree and think you are right-on with both points. They are making 400/week max, so that's 1600 since mid-November max, but they are reaching out above P9000 for delivery within three weeks? - cancellations, 40's and 60's can only explain the jump. Two weeks ago it was all Sigs... WOW! I'd be interested to look at the active reservation list - must be tons of cancelations of those who were later-adopters-but-before-the-first-car-delivery-in-June, and tons of 40's and 60's. bet some of them are on the fence and dive for 85kWh. I did! Anyway, wonderful for all - Hit the Road, Jacks and Jills!

What a roller coaster of a day. I have been an extremely frequent visitor to the delivery threads, as I've anxiously awaited word from Telsa that my car is ready for delivery. Especially since I am P214 and I see all these other Production cars further down the line getting delivery e-mails/windows/etc. I am thrilled as a stock holder that Tesla is cranking out cars and getting them delivered to customers, but a little annoyed that some people 2000-3000 spots after me in the sequence were getting their cars. So imagine my excitement when I see an e-mail today at 4 P.M. PST from the Tesla Delivery Experience Team, only to be given the option of getting the car delivered in December or January. I debated and finally decided to go with January delivery (crazy I know, but I have my reasons). Then at 9:34 P.M. PST, I get an e-mail from my Delivery Experience Specialist telling me my Model S is ready! Quite the swing of emotions, going from resigned to a January delivery to having decide if I can pick up the this weekend or next! I am very excited and confused at the same time. I'm replying to this latest e-mail to confirm that the car is actually ready, and start scrambling to get the financing lined up. I can only hope my DES hasn't inadvertently contacted me. I don't have a VIN yet, but here are the details on my Model S:

    Performance 85kWh
    Blue Metallic
    Panoramic roof
    Carbon Fiber spoiler
    21" Silver wheels
    Tan Performance interior
    Carbon Fiber decor
    Tech Package
    Sound Studio Package
    Active Air Suspension
    Parcel Shelf
    Twin Chargers

    Exciting times indeed.

So my buddy, Tim, just learned he will be taking Factory delivery Sunday. But a little background. Tim and I met as fraternity brothers at little UOP in Stockton, Ca, a very long time ago. Tim is a mechanic, fanatic. As a sophomore, he sold me his modified '57 Chevy convert, with 3 in the floor. Loved that car. Until I bricked it. We went our separate ways after college, he to fly big airplanes, me to count beans. In 1994, on the occasion of my 50th birthday we had a fraternity "reunion" at our new place in Napa. He and his family, had settled in Conn. Well, as things wound down in our careers, he got transfered to SFO, and bought a house about a block away from mine. Oh, and I should mention his wife is a sorority sister of my wife's. And that another fraternity/sorority couple had moved in a few blocks from there. In any case, Tim and I decided to order a Tesla in March, 2009. I got mine, P-83 last week. And he just heard he gets his, P-372, on Sunday. Can't get rid of the guy! Exciting times!

No I believe a common misconception. Last conference call musk stated margin would be 25% at 20000 units produced. Higher margin if more. I believe the 20000 figure was only the number that would result in 25% margin. If ramping up that high next report maybe quite exciting

Ok. I think the 3 1/2 year wait finally got to me! I've gotten so excited reading all the angst delivery stories on here I started getting some unnerving chest pains this morning and I am now doing this update from the emergency room. I'm currently hooked up to heart monitors, oxygen tubes, IV, nitro, getting X-rays and god knows what else. But they're still letting me have my IPhone so far so I can continue to read these posts and watch for notification that my Blue sleigh is on a truck headed for the east coast. Does the "deliver anywhere" promise extend to ERs! P1117 on level orange! :/)

Seems like it is going to be a busy end of year at the Tesla Factory.

I have this vision in my head from a scene from Return of the Jedi. Except in this case, the rebels are played by the anti-EV/Tesla crowd and Elon plays the role of the Emperor.

Yes, but I still like the Emperor's line. In my version, the Ewoks are very eco-friendly, so the shield generator stays up, and the "rebels" are soundly defeated by the Death Star (i.e. White Star). The End.

This emotional roller coaster is taking a toll on me. first we get the email to configure in Sept (P5,119), and I'm thinking "why do they want me to configure when they are only making 10 cars a week - there is no way I'm getting mine" and what I really wanted was the Sunset Red which of course was not available to configure at the time and was told it would not be available until mid-2013. So after I get pass the fact that i can not get the Sunset Red that i fell in love with - I decided since I'm not going to wait on the red I'll get the active air to increase my chances of getting the car sooner. I was told if I configured then with the active air I should pretty much get the car by the end of the year. So I configured and got an estimated delivery of Nov/Dec. then of course they run into delays and all deliveries are pushed back 5 weeks so I figure there goes my chances of getting the car in 2012. Well, we get this latest email again with the suggestion of maybe you can get your car in 2012. So, I say yes - sign me up!.....well then I get a call from Tesla saying we can give you "direct delivery" meaning they give it to a third party to deliver it will come to my home but no delivery experience - oh and by the way we still can't guarantee that you would actually get it in 2012 but that it would be on the "truck" and considered delivered. When i asked I why I'm paying a $1,000 for a personal delivery experience which I would not be getting - I was told I could wait until 2013.......

I'm starting to lose some of my enthusiasm for Tesla. I've been a big promoter of Tesla but here lately I'm starting wonder if they just are trying to do too much to fast......
  • Dec 7, 2012
    jerry33
At least you have the option of a delivery experience. Where I live it's illegal for Tesla to give a delivery experience--or even dealer prep.
  • Dec 7, 2012
    ppl

I believe the 1000 is a delivery charge which is pretty typical for new cars. someone has to pay for the transport. Unlike large dealorships that get 10 cars on a truck yours is going on a single one. Should go to bordello for a personal experience. You could always sell car on eBay. Your dealing with a company with a deadline, probably unrealistic that is doing a great job against all odds. Most of the world would like to see them fail. You probably should wait and get the car in a couple of years
  • Dec 7, 2012
    100thMonkey
On one hand I can sympathize with your feelings, but to put it in perspective, the delivery cost is mostly a matter of trucking the car and not so much about the hand holding. the care is extremely intuitive to figure out and it's got a plug... no need for a lot of pomp and circumstance if it means you get yours earlier. If it were me and I could swing coming up with the funds to receive it today, I wouldn't hesitate for a second even if it were delivered by some third party goon and I had to take the shrink wrap off and drive it off the trailer myself! really, the key for some folks is being able to claim it for this years taxes and not having to wait till next year to get your $7,500, I bet they are thinking along the lines of getting the cars to the folks who really want the tax credit on this years taxes. I personally think it's cool that they are giving you the option, I hear the real roller coaster begins at deliver and it's up up up!!!

Need long drives in my new S 2X daily, stat! Whoever asked me to put them in my will, sorry, but if I go the new S goes with me! Now that would be heaven! DearTeslaGuy (pictured above),
When meeting you in NYC, together attending The Motortrend Event (and, an Event it was), I noticed a slight flicker in your eye of un-repressible zeal, relentless admiration for this Model S, this Car, this New Pathway that is replacing the mini-van in which you heretofore carted your grandchildren from soccer game to recital. But is it the car that this TeslaGuy pursues, or is it - itself - just the pursuit of the passion, the absolute uselessness of throwing one's time, money - and now, one's coronary arteries - into the near religious exhalation of aluminum, silicone, glass, and self-extending door handles? Might we say that TeslaGuy has a little...addiction problem? Ahh? You say, "No No No.." he's such a normal Guy..." Yes - of course - we all enjoy a stop in the ER with a "touch" of chest pain, Oxygen cannulas, catheters, cuffs, and - Tesla Motors Club Forum! - Of Course - JUST what the Doctor ordered. Goodness forbid you missed a post - or - Oh My - two posts! Might get a little shaky, confused, perhaps a little seizure, maybe drift off quietly into a WITHDRAWAL coma whilst the rest of us stare at our screens and wonder, mist-ily: Where's the reply from TeslaGuy? Is he not well? Oh, he's just having a Cardiac Cath? GREAT - post on, John! (You know how to find me if there's a GI issue!). And get the hell out of there - There's a car coming that's calling for you!

Delivery window of Dec 15 - Dec 31. Pretty thrilling! I've noticed, thought, that Tesla doesn't seem to be very consistent with their communication. I read posts on here all the time about people getting personal phone calls/emails from their DS. I don't even know who my DS is! The only time I've talked to a Tesla employee was when I wanted to add an HPWC and twin charger to my already-finalized order.

How do I find out who my DS is, and how do I go about getting in touch with them?

After reading all these posts, I figured that I should check the My Tesla page as well. Sure enough, I saw the long-awaited delivery button. Almost missed it, since it appears to the far right of the message that's always been there indicating that my Tesla is being built!

I received what appears to be a somewhat common delivery window of 12/15-12/31 to my home near Los Angeles. After assuming just last month that delivery would never happen for P4909 in 2012, now I have to hurry (but definitely not complaining) to get a 14-50 NEMA outlet installed in my garage and sell my 535i (but guess I won't get any takers on this forum). Just wish my wife and two daughters were as excited as I am...

Congrats to all the others who have or will take delivery soon, and thinking good thoughts for the rest of you who clicked the "heck ya deliver my Tesla in December" button yesterday as I did.

It's been an interesting couple days. Yep, I got the email with the two buttons: [YES, DELIVER IN DECEMBER] and [NOTHING TO SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG]. After clicking YES, I began the conversation with my family, and preparation for the arrival (which I was thinking was going to be March). All this led me to think.. wait a minute... there are perhaps thousands of people ahead of me who also clicked yes.. This all just doesn't quite make sense.. so I called Tesla, talked to a delivery specialist, and she did indeed say.. yes, there is a very strong likelihood you will get your car in December.. (in 2-3 weeks?!?). Um.. wow.

My theory (sketchy at best, but what the heck) is that they have just about every body in white for the rest of the year done ready to roll into the paint booth and paint, assemble, water test, finish assembly, final test, burn in, add thermistors, baton down the framistats, do final adjustments on the doohickeys, sprinkle Magic Tesla Dust, and roll out the door.

    Here's my info:

For the rest of the month? Probable, but begs the question: what is the total lineup for the rest of the year? Up to P9000, with lotsa gaps?

I think they got waay ahead, as you say, on the GPs while focusing on finishing off the Sigs (also pre-stockpiling the foreign Sigs, too?). Now they need to unclog the production and delivery pipeline by pushing out as many as possible, as fast as possible. But I doubt that, numerically speaking, they'll cut down the reserved-minus-delivered backlog much, only the produced-minus-delivered, a bit. The realistic goal has to be to smooth and "routinize" this high level of output, because that's the way it's gotta be just to keep up from now on.

They've gotta get used to "dancing as fast as they can"?

Sweet - I'm P445 and mid December for me too! Good luck!

    - - - Updated - - -

Agreed. I've had my VIN for a few days now and I'm very happy about that. However, I only received it after specifically requesting it via email to Tesla - I got a response almost immediately, so it certainly appears that they had it readily available. A day later, people started getting the "deliver December/2013?" emails. The floodgates do appear to be opening now but it alsmot seems like there are more deliveries scheduled for December than they can possibly make. Time will tell.

I have to believe that the factory will close for some time around Christmas/New Years, so this is likely a hard push now to produce cars that can be delivered over the holidays. (Ho ho ho -- who knew that Santa had a South African accent?)
  • Dec 8, 2012
    ItsNotAboutTheMoney
Well, they're ramping up production so it makes sense that it'd seem like a rush.

Plus it's end of tax year, plus a holiday, plus extra sales will make Q4 look good.

    (Tomorrow or Monday?)

They will probably be down for Christmas Day, but they will not be shutting down as most plants do for the week between Christmas and New Years. Maybe slow down after the start of the year, but will be full steam until 12/31.

Just got a call from Tesla! Told to expect final delivery email within the next 1-2 days and car should be ready to put on the truck shortly after.

Interesting note: They said that due to the rushed 2012 delivery my car most likely will not come with a delivery specialist. Instead the trucking company will just drop it in my driveway and a specialist will arrive within 1-2 weeks to go through everything in detail.

By this point I've played with the car so much, and read the forums enough, that I could probably handle it all on my own anyhow. :)

    Very excited now!

Wow! I got the same call last night from Tesla. It is interesting you are in Charlotte and I am in Greenville, SC. Maybe our cars will be on the same truck too!

I'm also expecting mine to be put on a truck in the next couple days as well. My car is finished and paid for, so they just have to ship it. There's a good chance we'll see ours on the same truck. What is each of your VINs? Since I'm in Atlanta, it would make sense the truck would come this way first. I can see if there are other VINs visible and let you know it's on the way :)

    Hey Tim -

No VIN yet, but the rep did say that since I already had financing etc. in place that they'd be able to get it on the truck very soon. That'd be awesome if they got them all loaded up on the same truck.

Wow - Greenville and Atlanta. Sounds like we need a meet-up. Although that'll probably need to wait until supercharging.

With some responsible driving, you may actually be able to make it there and back in one charge. Of course, you can't do much else in the interim. But I could see myself heading up there and staying a bit while it charges enough range to safely make it home.

There's apparently a freebie J1772 station at 66 Richardson Street in Greenville, and I know the J1772's at Atlantic Station here in Atlanta are still free too. The charging infrastructure in the US isn't great yet, but it's certainly a LOT more pervasive than it used to be just a few years ago.

R456/VIN 1459 is scheduled to pick up at the factory tomorrow, 12/9 at 1:00.

    - - - Updated - - -

In setting up my delivery for tomorrow I was told the delivery team is working 7 days/week through the end of the year. I assume they're off XMas day but that's it.

To heck with the Richardson street garage, we are going to be relocating our corporate offices early next year and I will have a Tesla Wall charger set up for all Tesla Models to "juice up" on me as they rip it up and down I-85! While it will not be a supercharger, it will provide the fastest charge you can get. I would love to get Elon to put one on the Greenville-Spartanburg line near BMW USA Manufacturing. It would be convenient and make a nice little statement.

Have you check in "My Garage" on the Tesla website? I didn't get a response, but had the DELIVERY button enabled the next day. I'd check the site, if you haven't already.

Why yes, I have checked my garage occasionally...say, five or six hundred times since Thursday night! Still no delivery button or me. Breathing deeply, and trying to be patient. Secretly hoping I will be surprised with a VIN number phone call or something similar.

Jake, you're not the only one. I responded within seconds, alright maybe like a minute to read the entire email. No delivery button for me either. If anything is true at tesla, things come in batches and waves and hopefully there'll be another round of delivery buttons this coming week.

Agreed, I bet that is exactly what is happening. Walter from Ownership Experience actually responded to an email query today (Sunday!) regarding this, and he confirmed they had received my response, and have noted my preference. He said the Delivery team now has a major bubble/backlog, and it would take time for them to work through it.

5 or 6 days transit from Oakland to Honolulu. about the same as PA(?)
  • Dec 10, 2012
    JakeP
Probably true for the duration to PA, but how long does it take to schedule a shipping container and/or coordinate with a shipper's schedule. And given the extra cost/effort required, they have more incentive to ship Hawaii cars together in batches.
  • Dec 10, 2012
    dsmith2189
I was able to ship my BMW to HI with 0 days notice. drove up, filled in paperwork, all done in about 30 minutes. Easier than when I shipped another car from PA to CA via truck.
  • Dec 10, 2012
    JakeP
That is amazing. I would have certainly guessed that ships to Hawaii run much less frequently, and are much more difficult to schedule space aboard, than a fleet of land-based delivery trucks.
  • Dec 10, 2012
    dsmith2189
they have a few different companies, Matson is probably the one that Tesla would use. They have about 9 sailings from Oakland to Honolulu a month along various routes (Some stop in LA). their schedule is posted on their web site.

I'm baaaack. Good news! Cardiologist says the 'old ticker is tickin' the way they say it should'. I had a great dream. I was suddenly standing on the sidewalk outside the hospital and through the morning fog I saw Nicoletta quietly gliding up beside me in her beautiful new blue coat, windows down, and the sound of Michael Buble softly crooning from her great sound studio within, "I want to go home". Yes indeed, I want to go home now! And now back to your regularly scheduled posts.

I am wondering if choosing delivery at the Tesla store delays delivery. A bunch of people with much higher numbers that I got delivery windows in Dec, mine extends until Jan 5. I am P3170.
