Latest "Finalize your order" date part 2

My P number is around 150 as well so I contacted Tesla today. They had no info except to say that it's very likely that I will take delivery before the end of the year.
Mine is a blue Performance with black leather and glossy obeche.

I am P210. Mine is blue performance with tan leather and obeche. So we should be in the same boat.

same for me, i am P2982, and i gave them a call today and they said i should expect delivery by the end of the year. mine is performance 85, with most options except child seats.

here's hoping for a very Merry Xmas!!

I wonder whether the VINs of completed cars are any more sequential than the sequence numbers of delivered cars?
  • Nov 28, 2012
    stinnett_P813
I am blue as well and we are just a couple miles apart.. maybe they will batch ours in the same process.
  • Nov 28, 2012
    capt601
I'll be on the lookout for your blue one as well! We may need to do an OC meetup and drive in January once a few more get their cars.
When I called them today, I was still expecting January delivery, but he said expect by the end of December, and after I kept asking him if he was sure of that he said yes. So we will see. We are planning on factory delivery, which should save us a few days. And we wanted a nice drive back with the car and try out the superchargers.

Urp - sorry for posting to wrong thread (was excited to get the car today). Due bill was parcel shelf and roadster HPC adapter. I inquired on visors but the somewhat cheap ones on the car are the ones the GP folks get I guess. And the floor mats up front were not bad (no back seat floor mats though).

Car is, of course, a blast to drive. Coming from 4 years in a roadster, it is the height of decadence/luxury :)

And I'll note that when I stated I saw VIN 1730 in the finish line it was simply the highest number I saw. No implied statement that all VINs prior were also there or complete.

I speculated yesterday about the 19" wheels being the lynch pin in the delivery (with a few 21" performance wheels thrown in for the "R"s.) no one else commented. all they could see was a lack of carbon fiber.
  • Nov 28, 2012
    Robert.Boston
FWIW, my setup has 19" wheels and I have a delivery window; this data point is consistent with your theory. It also seems that performance is a potential source of delay, with or without CF. I think we all should be delighted to see non-Sig deliveries rolling out (and the remaining Sig deliveries underway).
  • Nov 28, 2012
    ModelS1079
Right. and recall that several sigs were delivered recently with 19 inch wheels despite orders for 21 inch. Makes sense. That said, batching and waves may explain the discrepancies as well. I have waited 3.5 years exactly, as of next week. Hey, it'll get here. But, man, I do hope it's in 2012.

I am P1117 and just got an
Email that they are still hopeful that my car can get to me this year, but might be early January. I'm a perf model. This is my birthday, so certainly not the b-day email I was hoping for from Tesla!!

OK, just out of curiosity, when you say you saw VIN1730, are we talking a shell of a car moving through the line, or are we talking drivable car with wheels and all?

The graph below is looking reasonably accurate ...

VIN1730 - Looked fully complete with wheels and at end of production line but not in the final test area. So either just before final test or just after is my guess.
  • Nov 28, 2012

Not altogether impossible. Someone was told the "Deliver Sigs First!!" mandate had backed up a llooottt of cars ...
  • Nov 28, 2012
    DouglasR
I think we've seen some examples of vehicles coming off the line with VINs hundreds of cars out of sequence. Still, one can hope that if VIN 1730 (or 1657) is finished, my 1527 might also be close.

    Congratulations, BTW.

Do you need wheels to get a vin? That would probably explain why I don't have one yet.
  • Nov 28, 2012
    timdorr
Nope, I believe they stamp it in the body once it comes out of painting and goes onto general assembly. I would imagine wheels are one of the last steps for the car.

I received the following exciting email about 1 hour ago!!!

I live about 20 miles from the factory and presume others in the Bay Area also received a similar email. I am P197.

My car: Performance, 85kWh, black & black, glossy Obeche, no spoiler, twin chargers, parcel shelf, 21" silver wheels, pano roof, tech and sound packages.

Unfortunately, I can't pick the car up until mid next week and have asked if they will be having more events next week. If not, hopefully delivery won't be too far away.

    No VIN yet.

Sorry to hear it, Teslaguy. Hopefully you still get yours this year, or at least before the $3500 PA rebates run out. If you slip to January, the chance of ours being on the same truck suddenly becomes very real...shocking for a difference of almost 4000 sequence numbers!
  • Nov 29, 2012

Congrats to those getting emails! Hoping for one soon.

P210 and still no email. Well, I got an email just not the one I was expecting.... An email saying the coming price increase would not affect me.

Seeing an email from them was kind of a tease :)
  • Nov 29, 2012
    Robert.Boston
What's your configuration, @austinm3? Various theories of causation of delay are: Performance, CF interior trim, 21" wheels. It's also possible that Texas is being difficult about something (taking a WAG that you live in Austin ;-) )
  • Nov 29, 2012
    STxTesla
Texas antiquated laws are not causing a delay. They do create extra steps for Texas buyers, (i.e. having to run down to the tax office to pay your own sales tax and pick up license plates and registration), but other than that PITA it is the same.

Oh...and a Delivery Specialist cannot be present to deliver the car. The third party delivery company delivers the car and Texas law is met.
  • Nov 29, 2012
    sublimaze1
+1 STxTesla - My car is done and ready. I just have to beam funds over today or tomorrow. So it is not a Texas thing. And, if you really look at it closer, the Texas thing actually is advantageous in two ways:

    (1) No Dealer Specialist to have to coordinate
    (2) No paperwork to be done by Tesla at the location of delivery (sort of a modification of #1)

What this means ... is that the vehicle gets here when it can, as long as you have forked over the cash. No other moving parts or variables. It is a bit of a pain initially, until you get it figured out. But, as I have posted earlier, something else will come up, and those in, say, the P2XXX range will have some other state ruined shenanigans to deal with.

    We shall see....
  • Nov 29, 2012

My P1577 has none of these (Dolphin gray, 85 non-perf, black leather, piano black, pano, 19", tech, sound, air suspension), and it sounded like they may not have even started manufacturing mine yet. With yours and P3833(!) pretty much ready for delivery, there's clearly something else causing wild swings.

How cars almost 4000 back in sequence are ready for delivery while early Ps haven't heard anything is a mystery for me. I would hazard to guess that some of the early Ps reserved a year earlier than those getting delivery notification.

Suggestion to Tesla: If this wildly random production sequencing is expected to continue, get rid of the sequence numbering system altogether. It appears to be mostly useless and does nothing but disappoint your customers.
  • Nov 29, 2012
    contaygious
Yeah no idea why I have no vin yet if they are able to stamp before cf trim and wheels even become factors. Unless they aren't even starting cars until they have all the parts.
  • Nov 29, 2012

A theory is they are batching cars with active air suspension first.
  • Nov 29, 2012

I haven't seen a Production with grey interior ready for delivery posted yet, so here it is:

Got my "Your Model S is Ready for Delivery" email last night. Waiting on the call. Here's my configuration as a data point: 85kWh, Sequoia Green, Pano Roof, 19" Wheels, GREY Leather, Obeche Matte, Tech, Sound, Air Susp, Armor, and Twin Chargers. VIN # 1656, and I am P #1693. Numbers are pretty close in this case.

I just saw a post on the TM forum that indicated sequence P4060 was told he would have car by Christmas. I don't know if he was from CA or not, but that is certainly the highest P number I have seen in this recent bubble of delivery promises!

    - - - Updated - - -

So I couldn't resist calling and inquiring, and was told that given my config (specifically 85kWh, non-perf, 19" wheels), I might well be receiving an email today or tomorrow, and 2012 delivery was more likely than 2013 delivery. All speculation, of course, but definitely different than just a few days ago, when 2013 was the most likely scenario.

I called Tesla this morning about an update and left a voicemail.

Got a call from Peter just now and he gave me my VIN. #1708 P#3385

Blue, non performance 85, pano roof, air suspension, piano black, TEXTILE seats.

Odd. I just emailed Tesla requesting an update on my car.

LITERALLY 5 minutes later, I received notification to start delivery planning!

I think this has happened to a few other people. Maybe the squeaky wheels are getting the grease?

Anyway, for the record: P1577, Dolphin gray, 85 kWh Non-perf, Piano black, black leather, tech, sound, air suspension, 19" wheels.

I don't know VIN or delivery range yet. Will post when I have it.

@Contaygious: Even though you are in CA and I'm in FLA, our configurations and sequence numbers are about as similar as they can be. Getting the email from Tesla today letting me know my price wont go up and they have all the information they need to build my car was the best news I've had in a while :) So... How about building my car and getting me my VIN then?? Are your 21's grey? Now it does seem like delivery location has a lot to do with it as well as config.

I got my first notice that I was close to ready on Tuesday, a notice that my car was built and ready to go this morning, my VIN this afternoon, and they're trying to put my car on the truck tomorrow. Fortunately I had already liquidated a bunch of equities (back when the Dow was >13300), but even still, getting funds wired to Tesla tomorrow is going to take some wrangling. If you have a sequence # below 4000, I'd advise that you get your financing moved along.

I think it depends. My car is being shipped directly to me rather than via any service center (I live in the middle of nowhere and a solid 8 hours from the closest service center). So they wanted my payment in full before loading the car onto the delivery truck. It sounds like anyone going to/through a service center might be able to pay at the time of delivery.

Yes, because I live in Massachusetts. As my DS wrote: " technically we need to have the final payment before loading the car for it to count legally as an out-of-state transaction." Texans and some others have similarly benighted auto dealership laws.

Ah, good to know, as I'm also in MA. Guess that proves that P683 will NOT be on that same truck. Sigh--I had hopes.

(Off to research how to wire funds...never had a need for such urgency before!)

    Wire Me to Fremont

Yes, Robert.Boston, exactly how does one wire funds to Fremont?

I've had my money set aside in my bank account for 2 years. Probably not the best way to handle it, but I'm seriously ready to give Tesla my money.

The information to wire funds should be in the final paperwork or you could call Tesla. USAA did it over the phone for a $20 fee if I remember correctly.

You don't have to wire the money though, if you do it far enough in advance a check works as well. Double check all of this with Tesla of course since I just wired the money.

If you post anymore you car will be ready tomorrow - be careful. I'm scrambling to get the papers and money together/ sell my car to the neighbor (fortunately, as long as it stays good!) I had to set up a wire for one source this afternoon but it took less than a few hours for the money to go through (and I messed up on the papers:confused:).

Got an email from the OE guy I have been communicating with at Tesla. Still no delivery window, but I have a VIN! ... 1769

P210 - Performance 85KWh, Blue, Pano Roof, 21" Silver Wheels, Tan Interior, Obeche Wood Matte, Tech Package, Sound Studio, Active Air, Rear Facing Seats, Paint Armor, Parcel Shelf, Twin Chargers

So im 3,175 reservations away yet 61 Vin's ahead of you. So strange!! Must be the Obeche wood?

I was hoping for January, but now i'm hoping for next week. Anyone seen a delivery window with a Textile config?

Tesla will give you their bank and account info and you just call or stop by your bank and they will wire the funds into Tesla's account. Simple as that :) You could also FedEx or otherwise mail a cashier's or personal check.

    - - - Updated - - -

I would stick w/ abandoned hope. You have all the parts that are believed to be delayed (Perf, CF, grey wheels) so it all depends on whether Tesla can ramp their supplies of those parts and how many folks w/ those parts are ahead of you. I'm a Perf w/ CF and silver 21's and I have a delivery window of 12/11-12/25.

As an update, I pushed fairly hard recently to ownership and its seems to have made my car a priority. I now have a delivery date of 12/1. P3366 has a firm pickup date of this weekend. I'm Sig 1179, and I upgraded from P2407. Not too excited about that given the $7500+ additional cost but glad this process is coming to an end and that my car has finally nearly made it.

And for those that think I hate Tesla and just post here to spread evil lies to lower the stock price, I'm meeting the delivery specialist at a half way point (2 hours from my home) to take delivery so they can get back to Seattle/home at a reasonable hour and hopefully safely. I'm glad new soon-to-be owners are being contacted the way all the Sigs should have been. Tesla has hired an inside delivery team to smooth future deliveries and updates about deliveries. I was also told that additional delivery specialists are on the way too. The last remaining issue is to address major VIN/Sequencing mismatches by contacting those suffering a severe mismatch problem and actively and accurately providing close to reality delivery windows and updates. Do that, and the company will have near-perfect delivery service in my mind. Grats to others with windows.

@strider answered the question correctly, @ModelS1079. I'm wiring the funds instead of sending a check because they want to load the car on the transport today and can't until they have full and final payment. Stupid MA laws....

Actually, as much as I'd like the honor, the Tesla guys were telling me that "delivered" 16 Wednesday at the Factory, and another 10 or so Thursday. And a good buddy of mine picked up his (P-104 I think) 3 hours before mine. So maybe the first GP brown?

    ?
Were those deliveries all General Production or were there some Roadster Friends and Family in those factory deliveries?

Rich105 reported that he picked up VIN 1261 (R43) on 11/26/12.

I can see Daniel Day Lewis in movie version of the Tesla Rangers "I will deliver your Model S, no matter what occurs! I will deliver it. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will deliver your car."

I hope your car gets there soon!

Actually I picked mine up on wed (11/28) at 1pm. I got the invitation to pick up on monday 11/26.

Tesla guy told me I did get the first green model S. Think he would have told me if I were first GP to get the model S so I suspect someone else picked up earlier.

I'm in the process of getting the paperwork re-done (removing my wife's name) and my credit union cannot wire the funds on a weekend. Their wire cut off is noon today. If I can make it by the cut off time, I might be able to pick up the car today, 4pm or 7pm.

I'm checking my email so often I feel like I'm ready to climb back through the wires to Tesla's server just so I can check that tiny bit faster to see if it's waiting in their outbox to send. Or, harkening back to the days when such things came by snail mail, I'm like this:

I think technically an R is also a General Production car. Rs have their own reservation sequence list, but they are indistinguishable from Ps with respect to the VIN. When TM talks about GP vehicles, they are including Rs IMHO.

I'm in a similar boat. I got the email yesterday that I would hear today, but nothing so far. I know they will reach out any moment, but the waiting stinks. Like so many others, it will all be worth it once I sit in that car for the first time.

It never occurred to me to ask. I'll ask when I get my "Pinoy Brown" car. :)

One interesting thing I noticed in my final MVPA is the mileage- 95 miles. Is that within the average?
