C'mon, livestream it! Livestream - Live Video Tools, Everything you need to live stream video Or just post whatever, will be great to see your excitement no matter what!

I've booked a few friends who are going to film our delivery. I'll be way too excited to do it justice. Expect to be hoping around and doing happy dances with my 3 year old for at least a few hours.

Well, I paid for my car today, but a quick call to my DS reveals it's not yet completed production. It's also before the stage where they have good visibility into it's current status. I'm guessing that means it's near the end of the line, but not yet ready for testing. Unless I'm way off on my estimation for production times, I believe that should be at some point this week.

Overall, I'm being given reasonable estimates and realistic expectations, which is good. They said the window for delivery was 30 days from getting the delivery email and filling out the survey on the MyTesla site. That fits within my date range of 12/8-12/22. With any luck, I'll have the car in 2-3 weeks.

Hmmmm....pre-emptive paying for the car may get the tax credit sooner rather than later... :)
Of course I haven't gotten the delivery email yet...I should give up the ghost and resign myself to a 2013 delivery.
  • Dec 3, 2012
    timdorr
The IRS has been making it clear that the year the credit counts is whenever the car enters service, aka whenever you're able to drive it. So, for me, I have to have it at my door on or before 12/31, which is very likely right now.

You may have an out here, since you're paying Tesla directly for the car and not buying it through them in state, the in-service date may be considered to be the date it's delivered to you or your agent, which in this case would be the third party shipping company that Tesla is delivering the car to in CA so that they can deliver it to you in GA. The screwed up Georgia dealer laws may benefit you here.

As always, this advice is worth what you paid for it, so please do check with a tax attorney and/or accountant before acting on it.

Thanks. However, I chose "poorly" since I'm still waiting for notification that my car is even being built. I chose a config that looked like the original prototype (silver/silver - 21") - how ironic! As long as you choose a different configuration than me, you might get your car first

Just thought I would post an update of the timeline of the updates I have received in case it gives insight into timing for future deliveries:

Nov 29: Got my VIN from the Ownership Experience guy I had been emailing
Dec 1: Got my delivery window (12/13-12/27)
Dec 3: Emailed asking for more specific timing. I was told 7 days from leaving factor to delivery because I am not near a Tesla store, and it would be home delivery with that amount of time in transit. When I asked, I was also told my car was in the final assembly stage gettin[FONT=arial, sans-serif]g power-train, interior, and other items. From there it goes to final inspection then logistics for shipping. The estimate from were I am in production to being put on the truck was 5 days if there are no problems.

This seems to be consistent with what's been going on - about 2-3 weeks from VIN notification to delivery. Since financing process cannot begin until VIN exists, it makes it a little tight to make arrangements. Thanks for the info and congrats on getting your notification.

Sounds like the phone call I had yesterday as well. I asked about my production status and was told it's before the stage where they have lots of visibility into where it is on the line. I'm guessing there's more visibility during testing and final assembly. I'm also hoping for a 5-day timeframe and shipping out Friday or Monday.

By the way, when I got my email that it's now time to schedule delivery, I clicked on the red get started button in the email which then took me to my garage on the Tesla web site.
However, I could not get the red "get started" button to appear. I ended up switching over to Coogle Chrome and everything then worked perfectly. Pretty sure I've seen others on here having similar problems.

Talked to Tesla today. P1577 (delivery window Dec 7-21) has a VIN, or so I'm told. Looks like they were 1-2 weeks too optimistic on the front end of my delivery window, as my car is only nearing the test/inspection stage, and after that still must travel cross country. They said they'd email the VIN to me about 5 hours ago...still haven't received it. I wonder if it's not in their system and they've sent some poor intern to track my car down in the factory to look up the number!

Communication's still a problem, it seems. Sent an email to Tesla regarding buying some items from the online store a few weeks ago. No response. Sent an email to delivery@ last Thursday....no response. And now not receiving the VIN email that was promised on the phone.

No, the emails are not going to my spam folder, and yes, Tesla has my correct email address (even confirmed by them on phone). Seems like they need a support ticket system.

Not kidding when I say a sick, self-depriving part of me ,
the same part of me that got me through medical school with a smile,
    will miss this wait.
Let us all remember these days.
When a simple car - a beautifully, simple car -
captured our imagination, then our deposit, our passion, then our wallet, and,
throughout, our late nights plucking away about almost actually getting a car:
    Got VIN?
    I Got VIN.
    VIN P01845, for a 12/16 to 12/30 delivery.
85 blue 19 pano air sound tech armor.

Exactly three years, six months after that deposit was well-laid.

Thanks for this new email address. I have been emailing [emailprotected] and kept getting a call saying that me car was being built however they didn't have a vin or delivery window for me yet. Yesterday I emailed [emailprotected] and within one hour I got a call with the vin and delivery window. Then she put the delivery link in my garage and followed up with an email. The squeaky wheel again gets the grease.

For the spreadsheet: P1383, vin1873, delivery window of 12/11 to 12/25. It's a green performance with tan leather, 21" grey wheels and all of the extra's except kiddie seats and wall charger.

It's a nice feeling to get that VIN. I literally picked [emailprotected] right off the "contact" section of the TM website. I think [emailprotected] is to be used after the vehicle is completed and you've gone through the "Delivery" process on the My Tesla page.

I'm happy to have my VIN and delivery window. However, Tesla may want to make some communications changes to assist future customers through this phase. It was quite clear that my VIN and delivery window were available "somewhere" within the Tesla organization but only by pinging them was I able to get the notice when I did. This leaves less than 2 weeks available to prepare (financing, registration, insurance, power, parties, parades, road rallys, etc.) before the beginning of the delivery window. I wonder if I hadn't asked, when would they have told me about the process for the next step?

Are there any conjectures out there about why some P4000s are getting their delivery windows at a similar time as some of the P1000s?
Looking at the spreadsheet, I don't see any common themes. Color, interior, etc. all seem somewhat random.
  • Dec 5, 2012
    mnx
maybe they finalized within 24 hours?
they live in CA ? (ie. geographical batching)
  • Dec 5, 2012

I was wondering the same. To maximize end of year revenue recognition, it would make sense to push as many CA cars as possible. But somehow I doubt that Tesla would even bother playing that game.

Car is complete. May get it this weekend or early next at the Seattle service center. WooHoo!
  • Dec 5, 2012
    sublimaze1
    +1 !!!

JakeP hit it on the head. If I were Tesla, the only number that amounts to a hill of beans is not Sig this, or R that or P whatever, it is December 31 and the number that goes on the spreadsheet after that date - and it better be at or above the internal goal (not what we have been told) that allows the company to move forward for shareholders, SEC, and the future.

So, if one car gets pulled out of line because of a bad tail light, or one pulled because the sensor on the glass noted unacceptable pressure, or whatever ... the next one moves up. True, P3999 over P999 is a little extreme, but - again - it is the speed of turnover and the $$ coming in.

I am P188 and I do not have my car right now. I am certainly a bit jealous that much higher Ps are taking delivery, but with that jealousy comes happiness that I know they are having. The numbers are a little out of wack right now. So be it.

1349 days. What are three more?
  • Dec 5, 2012
    shokunin
Geographical batching would maximize timing and DS efficiency. Better to send full truckloads to texas, seattle, chicago, miami etc wherever there are service centers where final prep and delivery can be done. Getting the final sigs out would be home delivery as they deserve a direct ship to get their cars sooner.

If they concentrated only on California cars, that would idle DS in other states. Better to spread out the cars based on the DS abilities to deliver efficiently.
  • Dec 5, 2012

  • Dec 5, 2012
    derekt75
Sorry kroneal. I feel bad for you. Has it only been one car that was "yours" that failed before delivery, or was there another, too? I hope they do something special for the last signature or two to get their cars.

Regardless, your situation was almost certainly unplanned, whereas the P4XXXs coming out now before the P0XXXs seems like something they must have expected to happen. I'm curious why. Does the delivery spreadsheet confirm the geographic batching theory?
  • Dec 5, 2012
    walla2
Kroneal/derket75: When I was first complaining about the delays, everyone said "you likely got a couple of months" or "they won't be delivering a P2400 before your Sig." I got zero months difference and they did deliver cars after my original number before my Sig. It's still happening, and I hate that there are at least 3 still out there (I was 4th from the end I think). Still a fan and loving my car but I'm still writing two letters. One that thanks my DS's manager for his hard work. Second to ownership that communicates the frustrations of the mis-sequenced.

Blue/Gray Performance, CF Interior, Pano, 21" Gray, 20kW, Tech, Audio, armor, and rear seats.

Did the tour yesterday. Every time I went to check out a VIN on a car or BIW someone gave me a look. My guide actually asked me a couple times to stop looking for the VINs. So i'm sorry everyone, no VIN updates.

One piece of good news though. As the tour started I saw a sea of finished bodies (BIW) these cars were just waiting to be assembled and there were probably 200 of them. All BIW's are the same so they are just cranking them out and fast.

As the tour finished and we got to the test track I saw a truly amazing view. The ENTIRE test was practically full to the brim of fully finished cars. We are talking about 80-100 cars just sitting their awaiting delivery. When I asked what they were doing there, she told me. The rain! The entire bay area has been pounded with Rain these last couple weeks and they have been storing the cars on the test track and testing portions at a time. She said they finished a bunch of cars, tested them all on the track and then moved them all onto the track for storage. It goes through the Dyno and water tests and then they just sit on the test track waiting for delivery. She said it was a frustrating dance act, but its necessary in case there was a problem with a car.

SO, if your car has been going slower then you thought, it could be due to the rain.

My car went from BIW to delivery in 6 days. I don't know how standard that is, but just for reference.

Also I saw probably 30 Sig red cars waiting for delivery or almost complete. I'm hoping they were Canadians.

I'll try and answer as many questions as I can.

Time to update the big board again...I just received VIN# 1929 for my P2009 Blue performance 85KwH (Grey interior, Matte Obeche, Pano, 21" Silver wheels, Air, Tech, Sound, High-power Wall Charger, basically all the goodies except rear-facing seats).

I was told that my car should be built and ready to go in about two weeks, and that it will take 10-14 days transit time from California to New York...Looks like I'll just miss getting it this year, but who knows...It's never to late for a Christmas/New Years miracle :)

Seems like they could kill two birds with one stone and just leave the cars outside and get the water tests done that way!:tongue:

At what point in the process did folks get an actual purchase order? My bank needs one to move forward on the loan in addition to the VIN, though she said the VIN is usually on the purchase order.

Congrats! Nice configuration - it will be a beautiful car. The VINs are rolling along now. 2000 must not be too far away.

That would be your MVPA and you'll get that via email (DocuSign, specifically) shortly after being contacted for delivery.

I think I might have seen yours when it was all aluminum and getting inspected before going to the paint shop! + other p20XX cars.

I guess you're referring to the final MVPA. Got that when I got the email with VIN. My credit union didn't need anything. Loan approved while on the phone and got check from them to send Tesla whenever they asked for it. Check was good for 90 days. They asked me to let them know the VIN when I got it. Incredibly easy. 1.49%. Penfed FCU.

They almost certainly were. Judging by the poll in the Canada section, a large fraction of the Canadian Signatures are Sig Red. Also I know that my car was still in testing as of yesterday, so it's probably one of them.

Not wanting seem impatient, I have been impatiently waiting for the magic call from the delivery people for the last few weeks.

I was reading in the forum yesterday that [emailprotected] is the place to inquire for people who can't wait for Tesla to initiate the delivery process.

So yesterday I sent an e-mail asking about the status of my reservation.

Within a few hours the delivery button on the "My Tesla" web page appeared, and I had a recorded voicemail from Tesla telling me to call back if I had questions. I pushed the red delivery button and responded to a few questions. Then I called back. I was asked to send them a copy of my drivers license, and insurance information, that I e-mailed to them. Then Solar City called to arrange for an estimate for the wall connector installation.

Today, I got a call telling me my car is ready and asked if I could pick up my car tomorrow at the Tesla factory. They gave me a choice of 9am, 1pm, or 4pm. So tomorrow I'll be picking up my Model S, at 1pm. To expedite paperwork, Tesla will be e-mailing some documents needing electric signing, later today.

My wife's out of town, so she'll miss the fun.

Now for the curious, let me provide the usual information about my order.

I have general production sequence number 22. I ordered a Performance version with all options except Paint Armor and Child Seats.

    Color Pearl White
    Grey Interior
    Carbon Fiber Decor
    Silver 21" Wheels
    Panoramic Roof
    Tech Package
    Active Air Suspension
    Parcel Shelf
    Carbon Fiber Spoiler
    Sound Studio Package
    Twin Chargers
    High Power Wall Connector

My family never agrees on colors or options, so I had to the avoid black or tan interior. No dark paint colors or dark wheels. Some didn't want certain options, others did. So nobody in the family is completely happy with the choices, but nobody is unhappy with them either.

Now I'll sit down and prepare a list of questions I'll want to ask during delivery tomorrow...
I wonder whether any of this would have happened if I had not sent the e-mail yesterday asking for a status check?

Unreal! I did the same thing 2 days ago... got the VIN, got the button to finalize, etc. I thought they were making it tight for me by giving me a delivery window starting in 10 days. That's nothing compared to "Your car is ready, can you come pick it up tomorrow?". For all the high-tech wizardry that is embodied in the Model S itself, the delivery process has been hit and miss at best. Still thrilled to be closing in on it though! Congratulations! Bet you're glad you sent that email.

I just got the following email:

Clearly I responded with a "Hells yes I want my car!" just about as fast as I could type it.

    December Delivery

woot! Just got this in my inbox. I've opted for December delivery. Anybody else get this? Curious if this is Bay Area only as the logistics of shipping tons of cars by the end of the year may be a challenge.

I've been frantically pushing that button even though it's just a bitmap image in your forum posting.

    Haha, +1 Doug! :)

So why are people wanting the delay? Tax reasons? To have a "2013" model year car? Newer model year for resale value? Am I missing something? Personally I'd have to be nuts to click the button on the right ;)

Ha ha! I like how they put the "YES, I WANT DECEMBER DELIVERY" in all caps. Because that is literally what I shouted at my computer screen as I read the email. :)

I got the same email for Southern California. Therefore it must be that we have a configuration that is already available to deliver. I would love to get it in December, but I still have to finish my garage remodel and get plugs installed. I still have to sell my other car as well. So, I will be the only goofball to hit the deliver in 2013 button. Interesting thing is...I'm not due for delivery until Feb-March (res #7577), but email implies if not December, then January delivery is imminent! Am I reading that correctly?
