As a new owner, how do you know the updates are available? I know the iPhone app has a notification setting to let me know when it's installed but do we get a notification that it's available and then do we initiate the download Or is it all transparent until it's installed?
  • Mar 28, 2015

A yellow alarm clock icon will appear in the upper right corner of your touchscreen.
  • Mar 28, 2015
    spentan
Its transparent until it is "downloaded" to the car.

Once it is downloaded, it will be ready for installation. At that point, it will then send you the notification to your phone, as well as pop up on the screen inside your Model S.

That's when you can schedule an installation, and/or delay it.

Your next question is: when will I get it?!

The answer is: after everyone else in the world, or so it will feel. Don't tempt fate.

Thank you both. So works almost like iOS, expect you can't initiate the download. Good to know. Thanks.

Now that 6.2 is rolling out, can we PLEASE have separate threads for a) "got it/don't got it/when will i get it" topics; and b) issues relating to the 6.2 software itself. PLEASE!!!

Valet mode limits to 70mph?? I thought it would be user configurable. Limiting to 70 is pointless since it still allows someone to take her out and let her rip over and over again. I'd want to limit it to like 30mph and like 20-40kW power max. That stops anyone from flooring it. Unfortunately Tesla's valet mode got this completely wrong.
  • Mar 28, 2015
    Todd Burch
It says the power is limited. If flooring it only puts out 40kW max, there won't be much ripping to be had.

Just drove up to Canada this morning, rain was heavy and no false positives on freeway for Blind Spot. Did have it go off once on side street at ~40 mph on passenger side- scared the living bejesus out of me. Guess a bush decided to try under-taking me.The driving side blind spot detection is a lot less sensitive. Indicators on/off make no difference. It was interesting "experimenting" this morning eithout scaring the other motorists ;-)
    Other impressions:
+Blind spot warning notification is subtle, unless you drive looking at the speedo it's going to be less noticeable. Love the idea though - maybe if left / right screens changed backgrounds to red (or similar) in order to increase chance of peripheral vision / HUD like reflection in windshield (at night)

+TACC is smoother, tacc level 6 and 7 both good for ~70mph cruising.

+No noticeable efficiency increase. Did not try in range more yet.

+Planning had issue someone noticed earlier. Setting navigation to destination skipped SC at Burlington, though I overrode this. Sitting at Burlington I tried same destination, to determine how much enenergy I'd have when I return and it would be < 10% (way below my safety buffer)

Similar experience. Got the update this morning. The first blind spot detection I saw was a white one with nothing there (apparently triggered by the rain). I had trucks passing me and was passing some trucks. It seems really inconsistent when it triggers and for what reasons. I'd rather have the white warning there whenever someone is on my sides rather than being hit or miss. So I agree, I'm not impressed. I haven't seen any red warnings but I didn't get to drive much.

FM reception does indeed seem better. Not sure on audio codec thing in general but didn't try the USB since I've been unhappy with the FM reception all along.

The HPWC issue with it limiting to 79A appears to be resolved as well (time will tell though).

As many of us had predicted the Emergency Braking function is not tied directly into the Collision Detection function. I had someone cut me off on the interstate and the familiar Collision Detection alarm went off, but Emergency Braking was not activated.

I had the same thing happen to me this morning, as another car passed me on the left, although I had my right turn signal on. It wasn't too close, as far as I could remember - and certainly wasn't close enough for me to notice. Sounds like it may be a little too sensitive.
What I'd like is the following:
    • Two levels of blind spot warning: One (eg: just the red lines) that comes only when my turn signal is on and there's a car in my blind-spot on the same side as the direction of the turn signal, even if I'm not too close to it (ie, no impending collision). A second level (eg: add vibration, chime etc) if I'm getting too close to a car in my blind spot - even if my turn signal is not on.
    • Ability to adjust sensitivity of the second level (like the one with forward-collision)

I agree, an LED indicator on the mirror would be a better implementation, but that would require a hardware change. Perhaps the model X will have this (or something similar if it doesn't have mirrors.)

You can now engage TACC at speeds below 18 mph - it simply engages at the 18 mph point and the tracking function matches your current speed if you're in stop-and-go traffic.

The Slacker sound quality is noticeably better (less raspiness on vocals) although still not quite as good as streaming songs from the iPhone over Bluetooth. Still, a welcome improvement!

One other possibility, give what you and others reported with this initial error: Perhaps it signals the error back to the mothership and recycles the update during the night.

First off, as my car just happened to be in for service (my annual service couldn't have been better timed it seems) they sent me the report via email that they had updated my software to 6.2, 2.4.124. So I guess, at least for my SC, they have the update. Although it may still be limited to certain VINs or whatever. I don't say this to influence people to mad rush your SC to get the update (as I think they are really trying to curb that behavior... and for good reason, my SC is busy enough as it is) but rather as a mention because of the discussions that happened during the initial rollout of 6.1 and people having their car in for service... on an issue that might have been fixed through the update... and they were refused the update.

So hopefully now we are at a "best of both worlds" situation where if your car is in for service already, they can update the software in-house for you rather than waiting for the OTA. (please, seriously, don't take this information and bum rush your SC begging for the update... at least not until things quiet down here over the next week or so as the end of quarter push is rounded out)

Second, regarding the sound quality (which I still don't have my car back yet to check anything), and specifically for slacker, make sure you go into the music app settings and under slacker and select "High Quality". This is not turned on by default (at least it wasn't in my car) and made a huge difference. I don't know what changes 6.2 makes on top of this, but if you have been streaming "normal quality" from slacker, then it is no surprise that it sounds like crap.

After install of 6.2 I have found that when braking there is now a kind of a jerk as the car comes to a stop. A kind of sqeak and then small reverse movement. For me that was present in the previous release (6.1) when the auto-following cruise control brought the car to a stop but not when I do the braking. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this.

In my opinion, the blind sport warning should not appear in the instrument cluster. That requires you to look at your instrument cluster while changing lanes, which is not where you should be looking during a lane change. It would appear the other manufacturers have this right - put the indicator on the side view mirrors. That's most likely where you are looking at that moment.
  • Mar 31, 2015
    brianman
I think we may be talking about different things.

Also note that the lightning bolt first appeared in 4.5 (and that's what I was referring to)...
    Firmware 4.5 - Page 6

(See the 2nd screenshot in that post.)

It seems Tesla probably introduced it in 4.5, removed it sometime later, and then is now reintroducing the icon with changed functionality.
  • Mar 31, 2015
    chickensevil
I would argue that you are generally looking forward under your default driving mode (with the instrument cluster in view), so you already know *before* even trying to consider a lane change that someone is in your blind spot. Now you can opt to look left or right to figure out how to change lanes more informed than without the information given by the sensor.

So if you are driving normally, and you see the blind spot indicator, then you know without even bothering to look left or right that there is something there and you can just wait for the notice to clear before you even consider diverting your eyes off of what is in front of you to see if it is safe to merge.

It should also be mentioned that the charging locations you see on your navigation screen are Tesla-only charging stations. They do not include locations from Blink, ChargePoint, EVGo, etc. They also do not include any CHAdeMO stations, only Superchargers and "destination" HPWCs.
  • Mar 31, 2015
    chickensevil
Right, it was in 4.5 and on, up until 5.9 when they removed it because they just put them all on the map by default (if I recall, they wouldn't even show on the map previously until you hit the button).

So 5.8 and earlier to see the locations on the map you had to hit the icon in the top right hand corner. In 5.9-6.1 you had all the charging locations always on the map (regardless of what active searches you had or didn't have up) so they removed the icon. It seems that they have now added the icon back to the screen so you can search for nearby chargers instead of having to pull up the menu for visited chargers or drag and zoom on the map.

Hope that makes sense? (as assuming that I am remembering the software version history correctly)

It's like the best of both worlds.

    - - - Updated - - -

It does include visited chargers though, right? So if you "knew" a charger was there... like your own house... for example... it should show up in the list right?

I too had a complete false alarm. I was in the left lane and perhaps there was a guardrail to my left, but no traffic lane and no cars and I got the red lines and tone to my left.

I'd prefer it in the side view mirror, but that is impossible with replacing the actual mirror units and probably changing the wiring harness to the mirror. I'm not crazy about it right now, but maybe I'll get used to it and like it. I need to get a friend to let me try to lane change into him to see what the steering wheel feedback is like.

got 6.2 on sunday, had a couple days now to play with it. you guys have already said a lot but here's two things that i'd like to share:

charger-aware navigation - seems super helpful. i entered a destination, and it told me to stop at two Superchargers, one for 20 mins, one for 15 mins. later, with the car at a very different SOC, i entered that same destination, and it told me the exact same thing - stop at the one SpC for 20 mins, the other for 15. it smartly seemed to be figuring out only how much i'd need to get to the next point, not how much i'd need to refill. just was glad to see that working.

blind spot warning - i really want this to be useful. but the first level "white arc" warning is barely noticeable unless you're looking right at it. i'd have expected a yellow line instead, as a warning symbol.

i've been driving like a moron trying to observe its behavior, trying to keep cars in my right-side blind spot to see when it turns on and off (super smart, i know). what i've noticed is that it doesn't light up just because there's a car back there; it seems to light up when the FRONT of a car is back there. for example, it lights up if the front of a longer vehicle (truck etc) is back there, but once that long vehicle/truck pulls forward a little bit, it no longer activates the white arc warning, even though there is still something in the blind spot.

also the gradient ends of the arc segments do not match other design / visual elements we are used to -- notice that front/back radar proximity warnings have clear, thick arcs with clean ends.

the second level "red arcs" warning is much easier to see than the white one. i did get it to come up once: i was in the right lane alongside a highway barrier. the barrier ended and a new lane opened further to the right. i changed into the new further right lane, and the red arcs lit up, presumably because it sensed the abrupt end of the barrier. i was surprised the beep/alert was not particularly loud like the Forward Collision warning, rather it was much less noticeable.

it's a good start, and will hopefully be refined in future upgrades.

Sounds like Elon's inverter tweet was just another thinking out loud deal which may or may not even happen... his online ramblings are getting old because he's quickly being known to over-promise and under deliver more times than not.

The Emergency braking, as announced, was never going to kick in unless a frontal collision was unavoidable. This is from the original press kit:

    --
    Automatic Emergency Braking
This new Collision Avoidance Assist feature automatically engages the brakes to reduce the impact of an unavoidable frontal collision.
    --

Not sure who was "predicting" anything about it. There has been some confusion on these boards about it since the announcement, but some of us have been posting that excerpt and explaining it whenever this issue comes up.
  • Mar 31, 2015
    tomas
That is balderdash. A tweet is hardly "rambling". In fact, a tweet by design is too short to go into detail, so we start guessing the other thousand words. He's delivered the vast majority of the time. Just because we spend weeks and 1,000 posts on this forum reading our fantasies into his 100 character tweet does not mean Tesla has under-delivered. The only thing Musk has been off on (consistently) is timing. If the inverter algorithm improvement is not in 6.2, then we should expect it will be in a future release once it is sufficiently tested. And, who knows, it may be in 6.2. No disrespect to Fikse, but it is *REALLY* hard to detect a 1/10 second improvement.

If you're going to need to stop and charge for a while at some other charger, wouldn't you normally set the nav to bring you to the charger anyway, instead of your final destination? I imagine that's what Tesla expected. Whole trip planning doesn't work with random chargers, because there is too much variability in how long you are going to need to charge.

I posted early this morning about what I thought could very well be a change to the way the pack is being heated in 6.2:

Well, I can't say any more about the change above, but I drove the car this evening and I noticed another change. It's not inconsistent with the one above.

My wife had returned home from work and her hour drive with the Tesla, so the pack was good and warm. The car sat around for about 45 minutes, and then I took it on a very short trip, where I then let it sit in the cold for close to two hours. The temperature was probably about 35 degrees F, give or take. I didn't preheat the car, and when I started on my very short (5-7 minute) drive back home the regen bar was at about 15. I had range mode on, so I would have expected it to stay there for my entire trip home. Well, I'm not sure at what point it happened, but at some point before I got home the regen line disappeared entirely!

Assuming my car is not malfunctioning, and somehow pack heating and regen changes have been incorporated into 6.2, I'm really not sure how to explain that. Clearly the pack could not have been heated significantly in the very short time I was driving. I know people here have talked about Tesla learning things about the batteries' real capabilities with respect to supercharging and the taper, and how perhaps Tesla could now be somewhat more aggressive. I wonder if perhaps Tesla has decided that for short bursts of regen, the pack can accept that kind of charge while at lower temperatures, without damage, and has modified the regen limits and associated pack temperatures accordingly. If so, that would also explain what I saw this morning, (although that could also be explained by having heated the pack to a higher temperature while on shore power.)

I'll be driving the car tomorrow, and will not have charged it immediately before. It will have been on shore power. I'll preheat the cabin for a while first, as I always do, and see how my regen tomorrow compares with what it has been in the past.

I'd be interested in hearing if others are seeing changes consistent with what I'm seeing.

Ver 6.2 (2.4.124) definitely a one of the best stable release.
    Pros:
    - Instrument cluster boots faster or i would say restored how it was earlier
    - Center Touch screen used to freeze before this release and now no reset in 1 week
    - TACC is definitely better and matured

    Cons: (not exactly)
    - Blind spot warning (this is ok but i hope this feature gets matured like TACC over time. Compared to my wife's Infiniti and real time experience i'm not impressed this feature how it is now)
I see the car in side mirror when the warning is on, what is the point ?
I turned my indicator on when there was a car/traffic in the blind spot but no added alert or warning.
How about prevention compared to intervention ???

Yeah, the current implementation of blind spot detection is not at all reliable. I tested it by driving on 101 and 280 today and the vehicle would not detect over 80% of the vehicles that were in my blindspot. I also tried to get it to trigger by bleeding into other lanes and I got no alerts even when a car was in the blindspot. Ironically, I got two false positives while overtaking cars.

    Updated to 6.2 last night.

    - noted that the radio starts in mute mode every time it is off for a while. Strange new "feature" that I don't particularly like.

    - I agree with others on this thread... The blind spot is not particularly useful or well done. My wife's MBZ has a much better solution. Alerts when directional signal turned on with a car in blind spot. Very visible note that there is someone there before directionals on...

What I'd like to be able to do is use the trip planner to see how I'm doing energy-wise with my true destination as the end-point, since it may be doable. It's enough of a stretch that I wouldn't expect Tesla to say "sure, go for it, no charging needed." And I'm not crazy cowboy enough to just go for it with no back up, and no fall-back position. But let me put in the destination, start driving, see what the trip planner system tells me my chances are, see what happens if I speed up, slow down, etc., etc. As the trip progresses, and I see how I'm doing I can decide whether or not I need to make a stop or not.

If I have to just route myself to a charger, I really can't do any of that.

Got my 6.2, in Canada, the planning looks good for Supercharger based, but if I had it before my trip to Ottawa last week it would not help, since it would not know how much running around I would do after leaving the Kingston supercharger, sure I would make it to my destination, but then what, no way to get back to the supercharger again without a local charge (thanks Doug btw).

Yup, 6.2 (2.4.124) got pushed to me again this evening - Was that automatic given the partial failure last night? Or, was there some invisible hand involved? I wonder... (I didn't contact Service about the issues) - and this time, it was applied smoothly. No issues and warnings after. Phew!

After a couple people visiting the Service Centers from the last round of failed firmware applications (some giving alerts, some not but giving weird behavior), I would not be surprised if Tesla added in an automatic "phone home for reapply request" if anything fails validation.

I got 6.2 this afternoon. I said "update successful" but then I got the driver assist disabled thing immediately. I started driving anyway. At one point it was complaining that the forward camera view was obstructed, which of course, it wasn't. Fortunately, the warning went away after a few minutes driving and cruise control resumed working normally. This is no big deal for those of us used to computers doing odd things but is definitely NOT what one expects from a car.

I agree with the others here who find the new blind spot warnings useless. I also expect its performance will improve, probably significantly, in the near future. And I expect the current arcs on the speedo are just a quick hack that will go away with the new UI in 7.0.

I also found TACC to be smoother and much more pleasant to live with. One more round of tweaking and it will be as good as an attentive human driver. Even as it is now I find it a huge advantage when in slow traffic. It eliminates for the most part the constant stress of dealing with slow traffic.

But the new supercharger navigation thing needs some work (in addition to the obvious things that have been mentioned here for months like intermediate waypoints.) I live in Redwood City, just south of San Francisco. I asked it to make a route to Lee Vining CA, which is on the other side of the Sierras, much too far on a single charge. There are a lot of superchargers around here so there are several possible routes. All involve going north toward Sacramento to pick up a charge, across the mountains near Lake Tahoe and then back south (the more direct routes across the mountains are closed until summer). But Tesla's Nav said to charge in Manteca (east of here on the way to Sacramento) but then gave up and said I would not have enough charge to make it to Lee Vining. It completely forgot about the chargers in Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. But strangely, when I asked it to route me to Bridgeport CA, which is just a few miles north of Lee Vining it found a perfectly good route (with a charge near Sacramento). I've never had any trouble computing my own routes so I guess I'll continue to do so :)

It seems like Valet mode should disable the Factory Reset function. The button is not disabled but I was afraid to actually try it.

The release notes say that Valet mode can be controlled via iPhone app but I can't find any way to do that. Maybe there's an update coming?

The ultrasonic sensors are supposed to be capable of detection at up to 150mph so I'm a little puzzled why the blind spot feature disables itself above 85 mph.

not hard to detect with a VBOX measuring device, it's more about delivering full power of the P85D, right now it's being held back with regards to highway pulling power and and top speed...

Got my update installed yesterday. A few things to add to the discussion:

    1. I don't remember reading this as a new feature, but when you plug into a supercharger, the dash shows "supercharging" and "x Minutes remaining" now. Hope they update the mobile apps soon.

    2. The blind spot detection definitely leaves something to be desired:
2a. It is barely visible when you need it... if you are changing lanes without looking (where you might be facing forward and able to see the dash instead) you shouldn't be driving a Tesla. If you ARE looking, you won't see the indicators.
2b. When driving along on the highway, I passed a ~42' semi... the blind spot indicator came on, then off, then on again.... for a contiguous vehicle less than 2 feet away? Hmmm...
2c. When you exceed 85 MPH, you get the popup "blind spot detection disabled blah blah" TL; DR at 90 MPH. The only message worth reading at that speed is "engine on fire" or "state/county department of highway robbery mobile post in median ahead*"

I think I expressed this elsewhere (maybe in this thread), I believe something has changed wrt battery heating and regen restriction. I still haven't been able to do anything scientific but at a high level, the regen limit seemed to be on more often than not and even after underground parking was sometimes still on. Since 6.1....200 it seems that I have never seen regen limiting. The temperature has warmed up a bit so I can't categorically state this improvement until the temperature goes down again but I feel that I was seeing more regen limitation before even at these temperatures.

I'm on 6.2 and got the battery limit yesterday morning (it was 42F / 5C and the car was parked outside over night). The limit disappeared within about 5 minutes of driving. This was MUCH quicker than on 6.0/6.1 when the car (this one or the previous one) was parked outside in about 40F.

I am of the opinion that:

    1) 85D range may have been somewhat improved. My normal morning commute was pretty steady at 360Wh/mi, but for the past two days on 6.2 it has been in the low-mid 340s.

    2) Energy -> Trip - predictions seem very real...perhaps even historical? On 6.1, I would always come in a half inch or more higher than the prediction for any trip. As you can see in this morning's example, closely mirrored by yesterday's, that the prediction and actual was pretty much right on.

I remember you had written something after you had received version .200 at the SC. But then it was after that you were asking about the regen limit lasting for a while, so I thought perhaps you were just discovering things were working pretty much normally.

    OK, good.

So if this is really happening, we know Tesla can't actually be heating the pack much more quickly. That wouldn't be physically possible. So it must mean that Tesla has decided that the pack can accept some charging, from regen, at lower temperatures than what they were allowing the pack to charge at in the past. This makes me wonder what else Tesla may have decided the pack can handle. Also, if it is a lot of this "pushing the pack farther and harder" that is generally what Musk was referring to in his statement in February about the "upcoming firmware upgrade that was going to positively impact the entire fleet."

Upcoming FW upgrade to "positively impact" essentially the entire fleet

This (pushing the limits of the battery farther because of what they have learned) would seem to fit the bill.

My local service center called me back after I asked what the weird "charge port lever" message meant. Apparently there's a manual charge cable release lever you can get to inside the car, and for whatever reason the car thought mine was in the wrong position. They said if it happens again, they'll replace the charge port.
  • Apr 1, 2015
    efusco
That is interesting! In the very early days of post-Model S release there were a couple cases of people who's charge cable became locked in the charge port rendering the vehicle undriveable and it took a major, on site, demolition to get the cable released. It seems that Tesla quietly installed a safety release to avoid the complexities. May have to dig around to see if that release lever is something customer accessible.

Those of us who share the car with other drivers and/or with a rambunctious 10-year old boy who enjoys cranking the sound to max after everyone else has exited the car, then leaving the sound set high deliberately so that the next person to enter the car will be blasted -- we will appreciate the radio starting in mute mode.

Or an alternate feature that Tases 10-year old boys when they leave the sound set to max. Or just at random -- that'd be fine, too. I love my son, and suspect I'd love him even more wrapped in duct tape.

It makes sense that such a lever would exist, but I'm amazed that it took this long to be discovered. Perhaps it was added recently. Do you have a D with the automatic port closure by chance?

After noticing multiple issues yesterday morning in the rain with blind spot detection, I have to say my evening commute it performed much better.

I did wipe the schmutz off my sensors before leaving the office, so maybe that helped. It was raining in the evening and I didn't notice any issues like I did in the morning.

Will keep an eye on things, but hopefully this is a good sign. Still a bit concerned if a little bit of dirt can cause that many issues, its hard to keep a car clean in the winter.

Used Valet mode for the first time this morning...

After I returned from my appointment, I drove away without turning it off. My first thought was "what's wrong with my car?" It wouldn't accelerate, felt sluggish, etc. as I merged on the highway. (Hmmm, just like my old SUV. :) )

THEN I remembered. Had to pull over and put it in park to disable the Valet mode... then the world was right again!

The blind spot warning is currently so subtle that I questioned whether it was working when I realized after a couple hours that I hadn't seen any indications. I checked to make sure it was on and today realized it is "working" but I just don't notice.

I made the mistake of enabling it to show my wife. I think now she may insist on my using valet mode when she is in the car. That car is too damn peppy for her. Just for the record, I've never done a launch with her in the car but even if I overtake with forceful pedal she audibly gasps.

    - - - Updated - - -

One more factor. One of the reasons I was concerned about the constant regen limit is that I previously had a P85+ (was driving from February 2014 onwards) and I don't remember it being limited as often. Maybe this had been changed to be more restrictive - not sure if this would have been P85D related, and now they've relaxed it. I know - way too much subjective guess work.

Random insert here... I see several people posting about 6.2 experience who haven't entered their data in the Firmware Upgrade Tracker.
It would be awesome if we could get more data there. I think the statistics it produces are really valuable - and the more entries we have, the more accurate the results will be.

This is a recent addition to Model S. As efusco pointed out, previously it was a fairly major ordeal to get a charge cable locked into the charge port out. On my P85D there is an access port in the carpet directly behind the charge port (about 3" x 6" access cover). Behind it you can get to the back of the charge port where there is a lever that is supposed to manually release the cable.

    Andy,

I think that I can concur that something has changed with shore power with 6.2. This morning I had my car plugged in and on range mode in the garage. It was about 23 degrees outside and the car finished charging at 5:47am. I didn't leave the house until around 8:10 and I had no regen limit. This has never happened before even when I would preheat the car. Today, I didn't preheat it.

Interesting comment over in the Canadian subforum (Anyone in Canada receive the new 6.2 update yet? - Page 2) where one user states that 6.2 significantly improved supercharge times.

I'm wondering if the changed tapering that some of the people in the "60kW throttling" thread experienced was not about throttling, but about tapering slower (there were several people who stated that they got higher than "normal" charge rates way past 70% SOC - so maybe the 60kW early in the charging session was just a mistake in the setup, and the 60kW late in the cycle was what was actually tested...)... and that consequently 6.2 gives us overall better charge times at superchargers.

I haven't had a chance (or reason) to stop at a supercharger since getting 6.2. Anyone else?

OR a whole bunch of other things. On my prior car (Jag XF), I had problem where coolant level warning would chronically go on, even though coolant was fine. They replaced everything from sensors to tank to computer "head unit". Didn't solve. I was able to isolate it to this: only happened when I was in close proximity to a large cell tower. With 100% correlation. They never believed me, but I'm sure it was the cause. And I think as our cars get more and more sensors, they will be more susceptible to haunting by "ghosts" from the electronic ether. Say, that's going to be the name for my next band! "Ghosts from the Electronic Ether"

I noticed yesterday that with the new software, the car seemed to be properly recognizing the 80 amp pilot signal from one of my two HPWCs. Today I tried briefly charging at 80 amps at the other one and it worked, with the actual charging amperage varying between 79 and 80 amps. So it definitely looks to me as if this has been corrected in 6.2

We are seeing bizarre Nav routings to a location that worked very well using 6.1 the day before. Instead of 3101 W Warren it took me to 999 E Warren. Starting over on E Warren, searching for the hotel gave the correct address (3101 W Warren) but the nav took me up the 880 for an exit or two before looping back. I didn't follow the directions but just drove west on E Warren until it changed to W Warren.

    Interesting! Thanks for the report.

As for me, I saw a much less dramatic change today than yesterday.

The car had completed its charge by about 5:30 AM, and I didn't drive it until about 3:00 PM. I had started preheating it at about 2:15 PM, on shore power, with range mode off, with the temperature in the 30s. When I left regen was at about 30, which is about what I would have expected it to be at in previous versions of the firmware based on the conditions and the preheating. Unlike my short drive last night, when the regen limit disappeared immediately, on today's drive the regen limit may have moved up and eventually gone away a little faster than before, but if so, the change was not in any way drastic. I was on the phone some, so can't give exact numbers, but 10 or 15 minutes into my trip the regen limit was only up to 40 or so, and I think it must have been close to 25 or 30 minutes before the regen limit was gone completely. The temperature was 38-40F as I was driving.

I have similar issue introduced in 6.1 (200), that continues in 6.2 (unsurprising consider only a few days between).
After 200 was installed by SC, navigation "moved" my home location (incl hwpc location) from pl SE address to pl NE address. Noticed pretty quickly as these addresses are 1.1 miles apart.
After making "note" to TM, I corrected by deleting home place and charger location then searching manually to correct.
After OTA update to 6.2, exactly the same thing happened with home being "moved". One again, worked around after recording verbal note to TM.
Does make me wonder if anyone at TM files bugs from these notes?

I'm a little bummed that trip planner only does one-way trips. We're guaranteed enough charge to reach our destination, but not enough to get back. On trips where there is no charging at the destination, this is something we'll have to plan around manually.
  • Apr 1, 2015
    AmpedRealtor
I don't understand the need for round-trip routing. When you get to your destination, when you navigate on the return trip you will be routed through the same superchargers as before and based upon your current SOC. Obviously if you are traveling where you require more than one Supercharger stop in one direction, there is no way to have sufficient charge for a round trip. It's kind of redundant, isn't it?

I've just received and installed the new firmware 6.4.1 today, April 1st.

I'm truly delighted to share how totally awesome and valuable I find its new "ticket avoidance mode" that I unexpectedly discovered! Once again, Tesla proves that it rocks with its superior innovations that drive us Model S owners forwards into the land of the nearly unbelievable!! Why has nobody on this thread yet discussed their own experience and opinion of this seriously improbable new feature?

No because you can have a trip that doesn't work in reverse. For instance, if the last leg of your trip is 150 miles from the Supercharger, you don't have enough range to get back to that Supercharger to get back home. There are also less extreme cases where the trip is possible, but the Tesla's charging guidance won't be long enough for your round trip needs.

Obviously with proper planning this is mitigable, but given how spotty destination charging is in 2015, this seems like something that should be baked into the product.
