Tracking and reporting of reservations, orders, and deliveries part 1

  • Sep 1, 2015
    Paul Carter
    ModelXTracker.com is now live.

TMC members who have published their edition, date, and reservation number in the Model X Tally thread up to August 31, 2015, may have a record. If you do you'll see it automatically after registering. Otherwise, you may add your own record(s). My apologies if I've missed anyone's record(s). If you wish your record to be made anonymous please PM me and I'll do so.

    Cheers,
    Paul

Do I have to register to look at the data? If so, is there a way to make it so reading the data doesn't require registering, even if adding your own data does?

    The site looks awesome!
Do you want us to enter our anticipated configuration choices?
is the section updatable as we (meaning I) waffle back and forth??

So nice to have a list with the choices to be made without all the distractions on Tesla's MS order page (where I have been "ordering" an MS almost daily to guestimate the price of the MX.
    Thanks!

Not many upgrade prod-> sig cases but should there be an Upgraded instead of Cancelled description?
  • Sep 2, 2015
    FlasherZ
Hey Paul, if we upgraded to Sig, do you want us to mark our production reservation as cancelled?
  • Sep 2, 2015
    Paul Carter
For right now, yes. Similar to the Model S delivery tracking, we could just do the extract and publish the spreadsheet in a thread here. If there is a big demand to have it on the public part, its easy to add. Open to suggestions.

Please complete the cancelled date and a comment that it was for an upgrade. The extracts are coming in the next day or two and people will see those comments as to why it was cancelled.

    - - - Updated - - -

Yes, you may put your anticipated configuration choices in there. You can update as many times as you like and add comments for choices and overall. I may include some stats on anticipated configs if a lot of people do that! Will be interesting to see what people are thinking and why.
  • Sep 2, 2015
    FlasherZ
Hey Paul - one piece of feedback, when you look at cancellations, you only have past month/quarter/year. There's not an "all-time" list, so my cancellation on 9-Sep-13 doesn't show up.
  • Sep 2, 2015
    Paul Carter
Thanks, I was going to add the last tab, but started working on the extracts and was thinking of merging them. If I don't I'll be adding the ITD (Inception To Date) tab.

So halfway done the data extract to excel and decided it's worth having those activity pages (I plan on adding dashboard items for orders and deliveries).

So I just released 1.01 with the following notes (which is now also a link on the homepage and in the footer.)

    Enhancements and Features Released

    • Activity Data views are now searchable and new view option for Inception To Date (all data)
    Bug Fixes

    • Fixed donation link for PCs.
    Known Issues

    • Donation link may not work on mobile or tablets.

    Features for upcoming Releases
    • Data Export to Excel
    • My Account
    • Contact Us Form
    • Ordering Dashboard and Statistics

The site looks great and all the work is appreciated. I don't know how this went with the MS but if the source of most data is individuals registering and entering their own reservation then we may just have crumbs from the slice of the registrations pie that are TMC members. For example, we know Sig. #4 has ordered but that data is not on the site. What are the experiences and your thoughts about maximizing data capture? I recall the reservation map project Tesla Model S X Reservations and Deliveries which is interesting but incomplete.
  • Sep 3, 2015
    Paul Carter
Thanks. I think once orders are placed more people will register to help. The ordering and delivery dashboards, planned for an upcoming release, hopefully will entice those to see how they compare to the data to date. That being said, the Model S tracking only has a small subset, but a lot of good insight with that. I'll be very agile in making the most of it and users can extract all the data to do even more on there own. I also had a collaboration request in doing some estimated wait times via an app. So more potential there!

if anything, I hope it at least provides some fun while we wait for our turn to hit that order button on TM!

Good new! gjunky and scottf200 have kindly volunteered to help with the site. I've made them both co-admins.

Version 1.2 was just released today and included a few new features

New Report: Configuration Popularity: shows Ordered vs. Reserved (Intended). Allows you to view and filter options chosen by Edition, Category, Region, Country, State/Province, and/or City. Showing a count and percentages of each option in the categories.

Activity Views: You can now easily navigate between Reservations, Orders, Delivery and Cancellations. Similar to the Month, Quarter, Year and Inception to Date links, click on the hyperlink to switch to any of the other three. All these views now have an Id column at the end. This is the unique id (called OrderTrackingId). Its reported in the Data Export. If the user has a comment on their record, you can hover over the hyperlink to see it. The comment is also viewable in the Data Export. As well the option comments are viewable there too.

New Help and Chat: Appears in the lower left. Click on the Help button to leave a message. If we're online, you can chat and get instant support. A support page with feature requests will be online shortly. It will house the FAQ and Feature Requests.

You can also feel free to PM one of us or email [emailprotected]. We're all reachable there and one of us will help you.

    Cheers,

Thanks to all who have shared their congratulations. I entered the number at the X tracker. If it were binary, it would be Bonnie's place in line!

No mention of delivery date. The only promise I have verbally received from local management is "by the end of the year". They want the Model X to be right, and I want them to take their time.

I enjoy Signature Red with Model S and was extremely pleased to find it available for Model X Signature. The neighbors might not notice the difference, until they see the Tesla EV roll into the garage by itself.

    It's now in the tracker!

Thanks to all for avoiding the carbon copy of attachments. Figured Ash Wood is a leap of faith since no samples are available. I asked for photos or a quick lobby peek at Hawthorne if someone would show me. They turned me down on that request. I did appreciate the verbal explanation that it is between gloss and matte. I just don't want to see the leaves of the trees reflecting in the dcor. Carbon Fiber is excellent, but I have enjoyed it for almost 3 years so I will step back in time to the Escalade look. With the dcor wrapping around the occupants, it will take seeing the Model S in person to gain a feel for the result. The larger windshield will change everything, so I am hoping it is love at first sight. With all their years of design and planning, Model X should be amazing.

The blue is electrifying! I look forward to take a single photo of all three Red, White and Blue Model X with Falcon Wings raised.
The 22" wheels are great for now, I most likely will buy 20" later. With Model S it was about the same price for new 19" wheels and tires than the price for only new tires for the 21" wheels.

Paul, I've registered and have been enjoying your new site. However, one frustration has been that I have to log in every time I visit. I was just on it 30 minutes ago (logged in) and yet when I returned just now, it wanted me to log in again. I am accepting cookies from modelxtracker.com . Is there a fix so that logins persist, at least for 24 hours if not a week or so?
  • Sep 9, 2015
    Paul Carter
Thanks ChrisC. Currently it times out after 20 minutes or so. I can easily extend it or we can add a Remember me feature that allows it to stay logged in for a day or week. Would anyone have any objections if I increase it to 24 hours tomorrow?

      • Session will now last 24 hours if you keep your browser open. Please log out if you are on a shared computer.
    • Dashboard Stats and Activity Views
      • Added last 24 hours metric and view. You can now see newly created records in the last day.
    • News Flash Timeline
      • Breaking News in the last 24 hours in a timeline view. Dismissable like the login notification.
    • Timeline
      • View the entire News Flash Timeline.
    • Reports and Graphs
      • New Graph and Report index pages. Each individual report/graph has navigation back to the index at the top (to the right of "User Dashboard").
    • Updated "My Data" Side Menu (Previously "My Reservations/Orders")
      • Now lists all your reservations, orders, deliveries, and cancellations before the Add and View items.

    Cheers,
    Paul

P.S. Thank-you for all the feedback. Suggestions and comments very welcome & appreciated.

    - - - Updated - - -

Update: The need to keep the browser open to keep the session for 24 hours is only temporary. (It was a quick way to improve the session timeout). I'll come up with a more permanent "Keep me Logged In" option.

In the "Highest VIN" section, it states: STARTS WITH 5YJXCAE40GFS000. This would indicate they are assigning VINs with a 2016 model year already (G in 10th position). Is this really verified as the VIN format or just a guess?

It was a fun way of dropping a hint. While I doubt it will change, I'd rather wait until delivery before putting the number in a post. I was protective of my order sequence through the years by just saying I was among the first 25. I look forward to others to post their VIN stub in the X Tracker so Paul can track the manufacturing.

Yeah, it was kinda obvious for some in this audience, I guess.
I'm curious... why? I obviously was never concerned about this, my reservation sequence number is in my Signature :) - but I'm sure you have a reason why you don't want people to know your exact sequence number...
Yes, I was hoping to get others to enter teir VIN numbers - that's what triggered my post above...
  • Sep 10, 2015
    Mark Z
Maybe for the same reason I cut out my name and address from junk mail that is recycled. Even the bank ads are shredded. Security of numbers is more important than ever. After the Target data theft, it became more critical. When a debit card arrived unannounced, it was discovered that someone in my city of previous residence used my name, SSN and DOB to get the card, no id needed at T-Mobile! I have since frozen all the credit reports and got an ID number from the IRS, that solved most everything. But even getting coffee at the San Diego Supercharger caused a multiple credit card transaction in the new coffee shop at Qualcomm. Another new card had to be issued. The need to protect numbers and personal data is always on my mind.

With the ordering process underway, the sequence and VIN number becomes more important for tracking. Before now, the sequence offered bragging rights. I am blessed to be able to buy Model X, but it's cost is a bit embarrassing. Even the Cadillacs I have owned were not over 100K. In sharing the number, I would like people to be pleased that Tesla is now manufacturing Model X and moving forward. For Tesla's sake, I will share the news. For my sake, it's just a number that for now is envied, but if early problems occur, could be a detriment. With Model S Signature the quality was exceptional. I look forward to the same quality in Model X. If that occurs, then I will truly be blessed with the delays and additional engineering that is being accomplished for a quality product that America and the world can appreciate for it's design and encouragement for a better tomorrow.

Small pain to unfreeze and may cost a minor amount depending on your state but when you/SO have worked hard to get where you are at you want to be cautious. We've experienced some issues and take all precautions as well.

And specifically for VINs... a few months back, there was a used Model S listed for sale down in South Carolina, not too far from where my parents live. It was much less expensive than it should have been so my BS detector went off. I asked him to send me the VIN, which he did. It was a legit VIN... of an entirely different Model S (different color) that was already for sale in California. Fortunately the guy was too stupid or too unsophisticated to send a valid VIN sequence that was *not* already listed for sale somewhere else with a different configuration. That and the Google Maps photo of his "used car dealership" (is that sign made of cardboard?) were enough to convince me to move along...

Thanks Paul. The idea of security at the data entry point should be to give a secure feeling to those who would enter the whole VIN. If the site makes people feel secure, they are more likely to share their data. The statistics are what matter, not the display of data that others might use for illegal purposes.

Signature Generator Online for reservation holders. Just replace the 159 in the example below with your own tracking id.

    https://www.modelxtracker.com/x_tag_generator.php?d=159

Note: You don't need to be logged in to generate it and yields something like this.

    ModelXTracker | Signature (Canada) # 3: MODEL X P90D | Signature Red | 22 | UW | 3rd row | FAW | BA | SZ | PIL | AP | SAS | UHFS | TP

You can then edit your signature and paste in the result (as plain text). Note: In my example the badge is P90D, the BB codes to underline are generated. I'll add some options for displaying dates (and which types) and whether to show No AP for No AutoPilot etc.. in the near future. Open to suggestions.

    Enjoy for now!

The VIN that appeared last week is no longer displayed when logging in to "My Tesla".

I see that as a good thing if the eventual VIN ends up higher than originally displayed. I am pleased if the Founders receive the early VINs while the learning curve of Model X manufacture rises with more production.

For now, the old data has been removed from Model X Tracker. If a new number (or the original) appears, I will update at that time. If the VIN is the same, I have saved the original date offline to accurately restore the original date.

I am hoping I am writing in the correct thread: I am a MX signature reservation holder below 500...I can't seem to find any information, anywhere about HOW MANY model X cars will actually be delivered on Sept. 29. Does anyone know? If so, is there a way to estimate when I might be contacted about configuring my car?

Highest config so far is 448. You will likely be called early next week. 0 Sig will be delivered 9/29 ..founders edition only. Have not seen a delivery date for Sig 1 as of yet.

    Paul Carter
Just some founders on Sept 29. No word on dates for Signature holders yet at all.

If you haven't already been invited to configure, based on the rates so far you likely get an invite within the next week, likely by Monday or Tuesday. Last reported USA Signature # 448 was invited just yesterday.

IIRC, for Model S: founders, signature, and production had a slight difference in their VIN prefixes. So there was a sig produced with its VIN ending in 000001, and a production also ending in 000001.

By now, the VIN prefix coding should be registered with the govt. I recall that someone found it for Model S and shared it on TMC.

This is Tesla's current VIN structure:

The first character of the production number indicates the stage of production with a few interesting codes:

Paul, a couple error reports for you ...

You typo'd a word on the public world map page, "particularly" I think.

The word "separate" is typo'd again in the 9/18 timeline entry. SePARate.

I think the new timeline subscriptions settings pref is confusing regarding timeline vs EMAIL updates. In our account, when we select/deselect items in the "Timeline Subscription Preferences" section, are we selecting what will appear in the timeline, or what will be emailed to us? You need to add some language clarifying that; I think it's more clear in the 9/21 warning message you have in the timeline, but when you get to the account settings page it's less clear. Personally I want everything displayed in the timeline, and nothing emailed to me.

When we browse to https://modelxtracker.com/ but are already logged in, it should show us a link to the Dashboard (if it does already, I'm missing it).

I'm looking forward to logins that persist longer, like a week :) I check the site at most once a day, and logging in every time is annoying ... Good to see the public content is coming though.

    P.S. Hi ScottF!

Thanks ChrisC. Really appreciate this, all fixed. Yes its to do with the email. I've clarified its an email service on the timeline and on the My Account page. If you have "Show past 24 hours of Timeline (displays once per session)" option on, it will always show all dashboard items.

I've also just extended the ssions to now last a week (more people are wanting that, so done!). For now bookmark the following page after logging in one more time: ModelXTracker Dashboard - Welcome or ModelXTracker Dashboard to not show the 24 hour timeline.

I'll see if I can get the homepage to allow a direct link to the dashboard instead of showing a login (if the session is still valid).

    Cheers,
    Paul

Just a quick update, the homepage now will give you a link to go to the dashboard if you have an valid session. I'm still struggling with the session timeouts. Some reports that it still is timing out, testing ongoing.

Someone probably made a typo and entered the date as 2025-07-13..... and screwing up the graph.

Someone also entered their reservation number on 9/24 as 21,702 when it probably should have been 21,072. There have been reports today of 21,156 and 21,157 which are the real high numbers. So, while the reservation rate has picked up slightly, it's not as dramatic as the incorrect number makes it look.

And its happened a few times and come back.

The tracker was created more for orders, production and deliveries. Can't wait to crunch some of those numbers. nom nom nom.

Well, we placed our order this morning. I've been trying to hold out long enough to get a chance to see the X in person but it's just not going to happen in a timely manner. This will be my wife's car and she's concerned she won't like it. The deal is that, if she doesn't, I'll drive it and we'll trade my Model S on something for her. Frankly, I'm not too worried but I suppose there's always the chance. We ordered it the way she wanted it: Sig red, tan/white headliner, figured ash, 20" wheels, sub-zero and tow.

    I've updated my tracker page.

Ordered 9/29, auto-confirmed 10/6, 10/16 asked to agree to terms (new red button on mytesla). No VIN yet. Sooner.

You only placed a reservation on 9/6. These other reports are from people with Signature reservations who submitted firm orders.

I also got the red "AGREE" button last night. I had ordered on 9-29, with the order confirmed on 10-6. Oddly enough, I actually got the red AGREE button twice, and had to agree twice, about an hour apart.

I noticed that in addition to the red button, they also updated the Order Agreement on the MyTesla page to the current configuration of 10-7. It had been still reading the original config before changes of 9-29.

It's nice to at least see that something is happening.

I got the Red Agree button as well. I did notice that if I review the design now it has a picture of the 6 seat interior instead of the 7 seat. That changed - which is nice to see and reflects my actual configuration.

By Ordered I mean made Design Studio selections for a Sig MX. With reservation number "MX r#20,5xx, (Jeva) ordered 9/6 means (Jeva) reserved on 9/6. Big (months to years) difference. It seems this is the standard sequence now: reserve, get invite, order, get confirmed, ask to agree to terms, get VIN, get delivery window.

Same thing happened to me. Order confirmed along with pick-up location and contact details for my "Delivery Specialist." Then asked to agree to terms on 10/16 pressing a red button that has suddenly appeared on MyTesla.

I ordered on 9/29, was auto confirmed on 10/6, accepted the terms on 10/16 and got the following email from my Delivery Specialist.

I hope all is well and you are starting to get excited for the upcoming production of your Signature Model X! We are still waiting for production to start on your Model X but once I am able to see it enter production, Ill be sure to let you know and we will be able to plan accordingly.

Without reading to much into the email, I'd like to think this means that Telsa expects my vehicle to go into production within the next six weeks. Or, maybe that is just my wishful thinking.

    Jeva
I'm not sure I understand what you are saying - how is 9/6 months and years difference from 9/29 unless 9/29 is from another year. If so, you can understand my confusion since the year was not given.
  • Oct 18, 2015
    Gwgan
It may be from another year. Signature reservations were made at the initial release party back in 2012. Some later Signature reservations, like mine, were upgrades from a wait list many months ago. Signature reservation sequence numbers are under 1500 for fewer than that many cars due to cancelations. A reservation sequence number over 20,500 made at the end of September 2015 like yours would not have access to the Design Studio yet (but wil soon) so you could not have Ordered yet and so would not have the Red Agree button yet. This is what timf was saying, you would not have a button because you have not yet Ordered; 9/29/15 must be your Reservation date.
Good news is that all reservation holders will be able to configure "soon" and you won't have to wait as long as those who reserved back in 2012 to be able to configure, order, confirm, then agree.
  • Oct 18, 2015
    goneskiian
I think you are confusing the words "reserve" and "order". You "reserved" your place in line to "order" on 9/6. Gwgan had a "reservation" for years and just "ordered" or "configured" on 9/29.

We get it. English is hard. ;-)

    Cheers!
