Post a picture of your facelifted Model S part 1

Would be great to get a thread of just facelifted cars (unless I missed it in another subforum?), to help prospective buyers get a better idea for how the colors look in real life! So far most of the photos I've seen have been taken inside a Tesla store under the lights, which doesn't always accurately reflect how the color looks outside in natural lighting.

To start it off, here's a photo of a customer car at one of the stores. Poor lighting = lots of filters applied.

Love the photos and the new nose. The Model S really does need 21" wheels though. The 19's (which is what I just ordered) look small. Thinking about getting my 19" dipped to a gunmetal or something.

So I notice some cars have the chrome bars by the fog lights and some don't. Is that have to do with having the premium package or not? Believe that was the case in the past.

@NikeWings, is your car white or pearl white?
  • Jun 24, 2016
    DrGuest
The "bars' are chrome and reflect the body color and shadow sometimes so they seem like they are not there, however I am sure all cars have them.

Attached are various photos taken yesterday. Ordered June 4th, arrived at dealer June 20th, picked up June 23rd. This is a 70D Solid White with Grey Next Gen Seats, Autopilot, Carbon Fiber interior, Subzero. Sold my red 85D to downgrade (lower cost), but update (facelift). Car had 4 miles on it when picked up.

Note that two of the photos above are in my garage, after I removed the rear badges (I like a clean bum!) and after front license plate bracket removal. In the near future I will probably get a clear bra. Car has window tint all around, installed day of purchase (yesterday). I have a set of staggered Model S 20" wheels (Slipstream-style) in silver that go on the car soon, and a glossy CF spoiler, too. Also plan to vinyl wrap the roof black, to mimic the pano roof (an option I didn't use on prior car enough to justify cost this time around).

    Ciao! - Ari

I see what you are saying, but don't think that is correct. I went to the configurator and it does clearly show different when having the premium upgrade or not. The second picture of James Anders car in black, the bars are definitely black. No amount of shadow will remove the shiny chrome effect. I don't see the premium upgrade package in his signature either. Not a big deal, just was curious on the subtle difference.

The facelifted S is one of the few cars that looks amazing in white! Any regrets in giving up the power from the 85D? Or does the addition of the center console make up for any loss in acceleration? :)

Hi @Cnasty, thank you. I'm not very technical but I sometimes drive 'Boston-aggressive' and prefer a grippy, sport firm ride. These have an amazingly smooth solid ride, near silent, and quick tight turns to power through. Maybe @Jason Shelton will comment? I did not do a test drive but surely the 19s are smoother, last longer and add a few miles per charge. It's a hotly debated topic and I just listen/watch. Nothing would change my mind.
  • Jun 25, 2016
    Lawtq
Many thanks for those pics! Like the previous comment this could be the best looking colour combo! Ridiculously good, you must be living in that car

Regarding wheels, I found the 21" with air suspension more comfortable than the 19s with coils. I wonder how 21s with coils would feel
  • Jun 25, 2016
    cab
In my various test drives, where I take the cars on a known "bad road" in my area I've noticed the same thing. Air and 21s seemed to offer a better ride than coils with 19s. Indeed, on my last test drive, just pulling out of the parking lot there was a strip of decorative brick pavers in the road which I could clearly feel. The car had 19s and the rep said it had air suspension. I immediately asked "are you sure this has air?" since it felt firmer than the 21s on air. She said "yep". By the time we got to my "rough road test" area, I asked her to double check in the menu as I couldn't believe 19s on air was firmer than 21s on air...sure enough, coils. After my test, the rep commented that she would never bring people on that road for a test because of the ride.

Having said all that, ride quality is made up of a lot of things, and the 21s were definitely louder than the 19s - especially in the rear. Some might value the quiet as much as anything else. Finally, the ride on coils was hardly "bad" - still better than a lot of cars with sport suspension options.

LOL @ center console comments. Since my 85D was built pre-next-generation (current generation now!) that is another upgrade that I got. Funny how many of the things my 70D has are things like NG seats, subzero, center console -- but that the exterior changes are just the facelift, and no sunroof.

Thus far the things I miss are fairly superficial. Such as the black roof (vinyl wrap goes on Thursday to mimic). Or the lowered ride height with the air ride (even in just "low always" was nice, though I tinkered with my prior car obtaining aftermarket lower links). But really, the 70D is more than adequate, you just have to push the pedal down further to go as quick, but I still in the first 300+ miles now haven't but once or twice gone "full tilt" on the accelerator.

This was taken when collecting last week....more photos after I do the Opti-coat this coming weekend. Previous S was also grey (newer grey is darker, with a more obvious flake content - love it), but with 19's....my only regret, so I'm happy to have the 21's, maybe less so when I burn through a set of tires in a year, but we'll see :)

A red Model S with the new nose crossed on front of me the other day in Dallas (Addison area). It was my first time to see the new nose in person and although the time I saw it was short, my initial reaction was that it looked better in "real life" on the road and less "blunt" than it does in many of the pictures. Indeed, I may have switched camps from the "old nose looks better" to the "new nose looks better". Of course, the car was red, driving into the sun and looked sweet regardless!

Opinions vary of course, but to me, the new nose is way better looking than the old. In fact, the nose cone is one of the reasons why I waited as long as I did to buy. I pulled the trigger the day the refresh was announced. I also liked the addition of the center console, slipstream wheels, and faster charger.

NOTE: the renderings in Tesla's design studio do not do it justice. This thread is a better source to base judgement on.

    Good catch!
My son and I were having a little fun playing Back to the Future.
It's a fake plate (movie prop) that I took off his bedroom wall.

He slipped on his Marty McFly t-shirt, then we bolted-on the plate, fired-up the flux capacitor in the browser, used slacker to get the movie soundtrack going (voice control of course), and headed for 88MPH!

Car needs some adjustment though. I'm still here.

Ah, gotcha, I misread your post. The grey 21"s look amazing, love it. I bought some 20" T-Sportlines and intended to get powercoated grey to match the OEMs. My theory was I'd get halfway to the look of the turbine 21"s and keep some of the ride etc of the 19"s. Good in theory maybe! Right now I'm in two minds whether I go grey or keep as silver, your photo makes a good case for grey! Very slick.

You have a beautiful car and even though I want the white or silver and my wife is making us get black, you and her seem right in that choice.

I have always had black cars and they are a thing of beauty...when clean! Thats the hard part but well worth it.

Looks like we will be going same configuration with the black on black which is a beautiful combo for the Tesla as here in the DFW area all I see are white Teslas.

Have you considered wrapping all the chrome in black or are you enjoying the contrast?

I understand that! I have had 4 surgeons basically give me a 50-50 shot with back surgery so I have not done it. One of the reasons I love my current ride--Yukon XL because the seats are so comfortable. IDK why other car makers cannot figure out how to have seperate seat heaters. By this I mean the back heater and bottom :) heater. I even use it in the summer because it heats up my lower back w/o having to turn on the bottom heater. My wife's 3 Lexus" -nope. Jeep- nope. Ford- nope. Toyota-nope. BMW- nope. u get the pt. :)
Tesla is the same unfortunately. That is one thing I would change with "the best car ever made" .......how did I get to seat heaters:)

Here is Lightning, my S90D, at the Seabrook NH supercharger on its first road trip back in June. You are correct: metallic silver is not a common color on Teslas, in part because Tesla discontinued the color for about 18 months. It's only been back in the design center for about the last 9 months.

Same here. My local Tesla store hasn't gotten any silvers in stock for as long as I can remember and have been checking. Silver to me seems like a more "sophisticated" color than white (our other choice) as it shows the lines much better and takes on different hues depending on ambient lighting.

Thanks for posting the photo of your silver MS. I will be receiving my silver MS 60 in a few weeks and I needed some visual validation of my color choice! Silver is not a popular MS color anymore. One thread on this forum shows silver as the least selected color. It looks fantastic.

I waffled back & forth between white & black during my 7 day period of being able to make changes. I initially went with white, but then changed to black at my last chance to make changes before the order was confirmed. I hope I'm going to be ok with that...
