yz778 We made it with range to spare! Did a full charge in Hope while we had lunch at Rolly's. I checked a few times, it was adding as much as 320km/hr! But I stopped when I had 400km range because it started trickle charging (using 7amps) - I didn't want to wait around since we were done eating.
I had 250km to drive and 400km in the tank, so I didn't have any concerns about range (initially). I drove as I usually do and didn't ease off the accelerator leaving Hope. I had climate control, sound system, GPS, and wipers on. I didn't put the car into range mode, and also left the trailer attachment on (couldn't find the key to unlock / remove it). So, basically normal driving but with an eye constantly monitoring the battery levels.
The drive itself was especially nice, with the panoramic windshield and no engine noise. Wind and road noise weren't bad either, could hear the kids chattering in the back very clearly. Sound volume was around 5, which is about where it is in city driving too - I like my music loud.
I kept the energy usage display on the infotainment system. The projected range fluctuated a lot going up and down hills. I can't deny that I felt nervous every time the estimated range dipped below remaining distance. On the long Highway 97C climbs, I finally had to ease up on the accelerator a few times to make sure I wasn't using power unnecessarily. It was soul crushing to watch Honda Civics drive pass me as I sat in the right lane. Having a supercharger station in Meritt would be really really nice. Maybe place them near where the highways cross. Get on it Tesla! Going downhill was fantastic! Not having to touch the brakes and watching the range increase was such a nice relief. On the last section of highway through Peachland to Summerland my estimated range was showing 300km, ridiculous considering it was showing 40km just earlier. Stop toying with my emotions, car!
In Summerland, I charged outside my brother-in-law's house. He setup a 30amp 240volt outlet on the side of his garage for me (sweet!). I tripped his breaker once because the car was set to 32amp, so I dropped to 28 and it's been fine. I also used the Supercharger stations in Kelowna while doing some shopping at Home Depot.
This is my annual road trip, the farthest between charging stops, and my Model X handles it just fine. I still have to make the return trip home, but not concerned about range. If I stick to the posted speed limits (120km/hr for most of the highway stretches) I will just fine. Maybe I'll use auto-pilot a bit more on the way back.

Epymian I had the same experience driving the MX home in June from the dealership in Vancouver. After charging to 95% in Hope, we white knuckled Merritt to Kelowna at 100 kmh in a 120 zone with constant warnings on range. Not sure when the Merritt charger will be done but I bought the Chademo adapter and will top up there when I go through. I have to come to Vancouver in 10 days for a conference and some servicing on the car (rear view camera off 10, squeaky drivers door, squeaky brakes, judder on acceleration between 30 and 80). Let me know how the ride back goes. It is 12,000 feet of vertical (bicycled it twice, i know), from Kelowna to Hope. I did not get a 200,000$ car so that Civics can pass me on the highway or I have to drive 20 kmh below the speed limit....

SMSMD Try this app EV Trip Planner supposedly a better range estimator and the developer is looking for data to improve it, Enjoy your trip back.

vandacca BTW, I've seen supercharging as high as 400km/hr at the Barrie, Ontario supercharger!

yz778 When I was charging today, in Hope, I got 442km/hr!

yz778 Good news, the trip from Summerland to the Hope Supercharger was much better! I arrived with 78km left on the dash display. I drove at or slightly above the speed limit of 120km/hr. A few cars did pass me, but I didn't let that bother me. They were the same ones that had to ride their brakes through the downhill sections, and in particular, the ones with speed traps.
I kept an eye on my battery meter, and tried to keep it at or under 100Wh when climbing. Occasionally when I did need to pass someone I'd use more juice, blips into the 300/400Wh range. Downhills sections were always welcome as the regen kicked in and the graphs went green. I gained a lot of predicted range on the stretch from the Coquihalla Summit down to Hope. It is SOOO awesome to not have to use the brakes. After the stop light in Peachland, I didn't need to touch the brakes until the left turn on 97C to Highway 5 for Vancouver.
In the future I don't think I'll have the consumption graphs showing, just adds undue stress. The batter meter on the dash is good enough. I'd love to bring my bikes up, but for that I'd want to have a fast recharge in Merritt. Can't justify the price of the CHAdeMO adapter since I won't use it that often, so hoping Tesla puts superchargers there.
Also, just for fun, I hooked up my brother-in-law's trailer and towed it around. It was maybe 2000lbs, and the handling was still OK. Plenty of power to haul it, but he didn't want me accelerating too quickly because his tools would go flying around. Hook up was simple, put a ball into my 2" receiver and the power connections just needed to be plugged in for brake lights and turn signals.
This trip to Summerland was the one that worried me most when I first put my deposit down 3 years ago. So, until there is good charging infrastructure everywhere, I will always have to plan my trips. I'll have to know the distances. I'll have to know the elevations. I'll have to know the charging options along the way as well as at my destination. Not a bad trade off. I drove almost 1000km and didn't pay a penny in fuel/electricity (it probably will cost my brother-in-law something, since I charged at his place, ha!).
The Superchargers are amazing. They are so fast! I've haven't had to wait for a spot yet, but I expect that will change over time. When the Model 3's come, I'm sure the stations will all be busy, and there will be lineups. Hope the infrastructure improves by then.
So in summary, I'm confident traveling distances with my Model X. So happy with this car! Attached some pictures, enjoy!

yz778 In case anyone wants to know what it's like opening the Falcon Wing Doors in a tight spot. This is a video I took yesterday. I was parked right up against the wall with a low ceiling (sprinkler pipes above me). The doors open part way and my son could get in without any trouble. An adult would have a really hard time. But good to know that the sensors work. I think the recent updates have made them a lot conservative, in that they leave a lot more room between the obstacle and the door.

gpetti I recently took a video because I found a situation where my doors refused to open. There is clearly a minimum height regardless of how much room there is beside the doors. In my case there was only about 1 foot above the FWD but unlimited space beside the door. I had thought that perhaps the door would only go as high as it could and then the doors would swing out using as much space as available. I'm not sure if there is a spec somewhere that says what the minimum height is but at 12" the doors actually refused to move. by overriding the open doors function I was able to open the doors until nearly touching the ceiling but there was still only about 2" of opening available - i.e. not enough room. I guess I've been overestimating what the doors would be able/allowed to do in a horizontal stretch. Seems there is still some value in the summon feature as in my situation bringing the car forwards improved the situation as the ceiling was sloped down. Anyone know what the minimum height is? Documentation doesn't seem to specify. I may experiment with this in the meantime.
Not sure if its worth posting the video.

yz778 Would be very interested to see it, have you shared it with the Service Centre?
On a related note, has Tesla ever held an owners event where they talk more technical details about the cars? For instance, I'd really like the definitive answer on whether it is better to charge at a lower amp rating (lower heat loss) or higher amp rating (less time spent filling up batteries). I read conflicting things online, would like it from the source.

vandacca The minimum height is changing all the time. At one point it was allowed to open higher, but a few updates ago, Tesla made the opening more reserved and cautious. Perhaps with time and confidence, it will slowly increase the opening and get closer to obstacles.

gpetti They have regular Sunday coffee sessions that are potentially for this type of topic though they tend to be more feature oriented and less technical than you are saying. In any event I don't think there is any definitive answer to your question which is why answers are contradictory. I think the official Tesla answer is that it doesn't matter from the car's point of view.
