They had something going on at the factory today, nothing too mysterious, but as I was under NDA, not sure what I can say. We'll see what pics they send me.

Thanks again, Omar. Would love to see the final artwork.

I'm guessing Omar was privy to an X-related shindig but obviously can't say. ;)

BTW, I am not sure who initially suggested the banner idea, it was a great idea. This was a fun project and I enjoyed chatting with many of you offline and thanks to everyone for being prompt with getting info to me and for anyone who considered supporting Alpha K9 as part of this effort.

    First pic!

First stop is the main employee entrance which is also serving as the temp main lobby while they renovate the main lobby. Apparently they are going to periodically move the banner around the factory, so I'll get/post more pics with each move.

I doubt I'll ever be out there, so while this doesn't apply to me, for those of you planning tours, it would be cool if while you're there, you were able to actually sign the banner by your name.

Good idea? Bad idea? Terrible idea?

So in its current location, you will not see the banner if you go on a tour, as tours start/end at the Delivery Center. If you want to check out the banner in person, you need to head over to the temp lobby before or after the tour.

It looks great! My only regret is that we didn't get more people from outside of North America.

Talked about this with Doug from TMC. It came down to time and space: by the time we started to collect countries (and recognized the skew), I was pretty much out of space (hence the move to the ordered rows with allowed me to pack names more tightly). When spec-ing things out, Mark (Tesla) indicated the banner would be hung up high, above head level, I wanted to keep the typeface ~72points (1 vertical inch), so the names would be legible from a few feet away. If we added more names, we would have to either shrink the names to were they approached illegibility or move into custom size banners which would have rapidly escalated costs.

For an ad hoc project, I am pleased with how it turned out, but there are also a few things we learned along the way that we can apply if/when we do this again.

If it's a comfort to you all; In the Benelux we did a cake for Tesla kind of thing in all SeCs in the Netherlands and Belgium. We brought pie!!!! (Although I only contributed financially)

But it was all based on your idea...

They didn't mind me checking it out because it's a lobby area and they said I could take a photo as long as I didn't post it anywhere, so I'm holding up my end of the deal.

    wk057
Interesting... wasn't given any such restriction. It did say right on the door to the area "No photography" though. :(
  • Mar 6, 2015
    bonnie
When I've posted photos from restricted areas there (like the employee breakroom, earlier in this thread), I've just asked someone in Tesla management to take the photo and email it to me. That way there's never any question if I violated restrictions or not.

    Shouldn't be a problem then.

User omarsultan, the person responsible for getting the banner made for last year's recognition event...

...has started a thread with an idea for this year.

    That thread is located here:
