Miltonian I just have to get through tonight and then the only thing separating me from my 70D is a signature))
Spoke to my DOS today and he isn't very optimistic about LTE being enabled as he hasn't deployed any vehicles with it to date (toronto). It's alright though, I won't love my Tesla any less. Com'on clock, move!

Lex What a ride PapafoxI'm in the same boat as smilepak here !! Love the colour, what a ride. days away ugh.
I can't wait to let the thing take over in traffic, this is one of the aspects of the car I'm looking forward to the most !
No doubt a light sleep tonight eh !!!
As for LTE... if my 70D doesn't have it, I am guessing that either they don't yet have an LTE plan arranged in Canada so it's falls back to 3G, or they decided to use-up the old 3G parts bin on foreign models, for whatever reason... sigh. Ah well I get to find out later this week, ugh off to try and sleep...

I never thought I'd see ever see fear in the Dodge's eyes, but I could swear...
The Model S, and my 70D is simply a wonderful piece of technology. I am so proud some nice humans actually went and did this after the bad humans spoiled it for so long. Looking forward to a world with adaptive cruise and this kind of punch. We can't get rid of all of them, but surely some major traffic issues would be solved if Toyotas were electric :cursing:
Jun 26, 2015
Lex Now that I actually have mine I can't sleep because I want to drive again or research some quirks (haven't figured out cruise resume yet lol) lucky I have tomorrow off
Mine shows 3G but doesn't seem like anyone in Canada has seen LTE, so ...
Jun 26, 2015
S4WRXTTCS The adaptive cruise control is a bit confusing.
Here is what I've found
If the car stops itself it will automatically resume as long as it hasn't gone into hold. If its gone into hold simply pull the lever towards you, or hit the go pedal.
If you stop the car it won't resume from a stop by pulling the lever towards you. Other people have said it does, but it's never worked for me. I'm not sure why it would work since you have to be going 18mph to activate cruise control. It will resume cruise control if you hit the throttle and then reactivate cruise.
There are two ways I commonly reactivate cruise.
If I want to resume cruise at the same target speed as before I pull the lever towards me.
If I want to resume cruise at my current speed I push the lever down.
My favorite part of the adaptive cruise control is it allows me to take over with the throttle without disabling it. It won't suspend cruise control unless I hit the brake.

S4WRXTTCS Here is a quick review of the 70D that I picked up a few weeks ago.
The Good
1.) A completely unique driving experience that you cant do it justice by trying to explain it. Its not just fast, but its teleportation fast.
2.) It handles great, and seems to have plenty of grip on tight corners. I have the coil suspension with 19 inch tires. I havent driven it in the rain yet though. It hasnt really rained properly since before I brought it home.
3.) The Next Gen seats hug me nicely, and work great for my taste.
4.) TACC is a lot better than I imagined. Its not something youd trust with your life, but its also not gimmicky at all. Its a transformative experience. There is a process to it of giving it a little more power, but knowing the limits of it.
5.) SuperCharging is a bit addicting I must say. Its like backing into some space port with a space ship and then you get out and explore the local cuisine. Well okay Im in the NW so the local cuisine is Starbucks.
6.) Commuting back and forth to work is way more pleasant with this car than my other car (a Jeep Wrangler unlimited). This was the primary reason I got this car. In the greater Seattle area we dont really drive anymore. The roads are so packed full we just merge into a road system and merge out when weve gotten to our destination. There is no real driving unless you make it somewhere south of Olympia or north of Burlington. Using a gas car on our roads is a complete waste. All that sitting, and all that shifting. Sure I still have to spend tons of time sniffing someone elses tail pipe, but thankfully no one has to sniff mine.
7.) Being able to communicate with my car when Im not there is awesome. I can easily unlock the car and even start the car remotely if I need to. It also comes in really handy when the weather gets to 90F in the Seattle area.
8.) Having an Average Energy usage of 268Wh/Mi from Centralia to Portland and back. Its 186.4 miles where the majority of it is a 70mph speed limit. In Centralia I charged to 95% and then I drove to Portland at 70MPH with the AC on and with range mode on (it wasnt that hot). Once I got to Portland traffic was terrible and trying to drive 2 miles to my Hotel from the Freeway took at least an hour. From Portland to Centralia I drove at 65mph, and had the AC off and range mode on. I occasionally ducked out of whatever truck I was following to get around. There are some hills that the trucks cant maintain their speed going up. I didnt drive close enough to get any benefits of drafting and I didnt use any hypermiling techniques. The TACC was engaged the entire time. I made it to the Centralia Supercharger with 47 miles. I didnt achieve my goal though of making it with over 20%. No instead I was in that weird not green but greeinish color battery display. Its like they wanted to show Yellow, but couldnt for some reason. All I know is the color was butt ugly.
9.) The Trip graph (under energy when you have a destination enter into the Nav) is pretty cool. I hope they update it for winds, but it appears to work beautifully for hills.
The Bad
1.) Rattles/Rubbing Sounds from Dash. Took it in to fix a major dash rattle (around the touchscreen), and it solved that one. But, there are still some other rattles. There is also a rubbing sound occasionally from the touch screen.
2.) Road noise is terrible. Tires need foam, and the car needs better sound insulation overall. I need to do some testing with a sound gauge or an iphone app to compare against other car. Its quiet up to around 65mph, and on decent roads. Its really loud at 80mph, or on bad roads.
3.) The left LCD screen is really bright at night when telling someone what lane theyre supposed to be in. This GUI doesnt have a night mode. So at night Ive turning down the brightness to 50% when I use the navigation feature.
4.) Body pieces and interior trim pieces have inconsistent gaps, and overall the quality isnt high enough.
5.) Nothing to protect the gear bumper when loading things into the trunk. I went with xpel ultimate to protect this part of the car from my own stupidity. Its great that it has this huge amount of space, but it would be nice to actually be able to put something into it without damaging the car while doing so.
6.) The Fan Speed is weak (regardless of range mode settings). 11 should be like a hurricane, but its less wind speed than my sneeze at a symphony.
The Lame (that could possibly be improved with firmware)
1.) Blindspot monitoring is inconsistent at best
2.) Lane departure gives out so many false readings that I turned it off
3.) The AC seems lame even with Range Mode off. From browsing around these forums it seems like it just misreads the temp and you have to put it lower than what you want. It does do the job, but geesh cant they use a thermocouple to test their stuff? Maybe its a California thing to say 75 is 70.
The Ugly
1.) Trying to explain that the car didnt come with Waze.
2.) Holding my tongue when my mom had issues with the Seat Belt. I took her from the Seattle area to Portland and back and the Seat Belt was trying to strangle her. Now I admit its an awful design, but my mom has a massive Jay Leno neck too. I need to get a seat belt extender or some soft material to go over it.
3.) Nearly getting rear ended south of Portland when the car was less than a week old. The person in front of me went to the shoulder, and the person behind me went to the shoulder. I jammed the brakes and I actually stopped short of where I wanted to, but I had no idea if the guy in front of me would actually make it all the way over.
4.) Pulling into the Supercharger at the Dalles (in Oregon) and seeing all the ICE cars taking up the supercharger spots. Thankfully two were open. I doubt Tesla has weight sensors under the parking spots to detect ice cars. The signage was terrible. It actually said 2 hour parking between 8am and 8pm. So that meant anyone parking after 8pm would just leave their car over night. It was around 11pm when I arrived.
5.) A car that I just picked up a few weeks ago has 2600 miles on it. WHAT??
6.) Whats with the obsession over everything going up to 11?

Max* Good review S4WRXTTCS. My only comment about the supercharger is that Tesla didn't negotiate all of them for just supercarging. There was a thread somewhere about a supercharger with eight stalls, but the red robin only had to keep 2 of them open. The other 6 could be ICEd, and were first come first serve.

Jun 29, 2015
Max* Called them, had an appointment this week to check out my AC vibration issue, they rescheduled me, since I wanted to have my car for the long weekend.
Going to get the door handle fixed, AC checked out, scroll wheel examined (the volume doesn't always respond to me scrolling it), and hopefully the rear-bumper and hood re-aligned or something...
They said since they have no loaners at the moment, they'll get me an ICE and pay for gas.
Jun 29, 2015
smilepak That's funny. For a company who wants to be green sure came short on loaners. I would think if they don't have any Tesla made loaners, they would give you another brand like Fiat 500e or Nissan Leaf or something electric, instead of going with ICE. Lol

smilepak Just picked up Tess.
One word. amazing!
Coming from owning a Lexus GS 350 and driven Mercedes E350 and S430, the driving is more enjoyable in the MS. The acceleration is par none. Smooth, fast, instant. The regenerative braking is something getting used to as I haven't own or driven a hybrid or any cars with it yet.
interior design taken out of Apple's playbook. Simplicity. Good or bad, argument could go on forever for another day. The leather details with next gen seating and blend between leather and Alcantara is nicely done. I like the dashboard having it. It minimize sliding of things like toll road responder.
The lack of rear cup holders, the levers at the door overhead to assist entering is missing, no hangers, minimal leather due to the whole Alcantar approach, etc...
the odd placement of cup holders in the front was weirdly placed. It gets in the way of the arm rest. The huge center space was odd, for I am used to resting my hand on the knob shift.
The sound system lack bass. At max bass setting it was decent and usable, not horrible.
The 17" screen. Amazing. The dashboard that show navigation is nicely placed.
Panoroof of cool to have. It gives that nice class touches.
Getting it it tinted right now with ctx rear 15 and ctx 30 front.
More to come...having issue uploading pictures via iPhone using browser

Berty1970 Hello everyone,
I thought I'd give an update on my 70D delivery. Here are the timelines of my order for those interested:
Store order: 05-May-2015
Confirmed order: 13-May-2015
Build start: 29-May-2015
Build end: 04-Jun-2015
In Transit: 04-Jun-2015
Delivery: 26-Jun-2015
I ordered the following: 70D - Pano roof - Deep Blue Metallic - Grey Next Gen Seats - Piano Black - Black Alcantara - Autopilot - Premium Interior and Lighting - Smart Air Suspension - UHFS -LTE.
I have yet to decide if I want dual chargers. In Quebec, there are very few chargers above 40A. And, actually, most are 30A only which is a shame. There seem to be a lot of CHadeMo on the north shore and only one Supercharger in Drummondville, on the way to Quebec city from Montreal. Apparently, more are coming. If you want to head there via the north shore, you are out of luck for Supercharging. Need to rely on ChadeMo (and get the adaptor which I don't yet have).
I've had a couple of problems with it so far. When leaving my garage (where LTE doesn't reach), the LTE didn't make it back on. Tesla tech support told me to do a reset of the main panel which fixed the issue. Had to do it a couple of times until I was told to keep the car off "Always connected" and "Always on". The next issue happened on a heavy rain day last week. Water came in from above the rearview mirror, in the meshing there, and behind the glove box. I'm bringing it in to the shop on Wednesday.
I've supercharged twice and took pictures every minute. I'll post the data soon so people have a graph of what supercharging will give the 70D depending on battery charge.
Had a "scare" as I pulled in to the Supercharger at 24 km range. I've since then calmed down a lot and have gained in confidence about charge. It's amazing what moderating your right foot does to the range!
Essentially, this is the very best car I have ever owned and would not go back.
Here is a picture of Elektra. She is a beauty for sure, at least to my taste.

Well, that's it for my story so far. I will post in other threads the other stories I will live with this amazing car.

kushari I dipped it. It's a plastic paint that's removable (plasti dip). Go to dipyourcar.com to find someone in your area that's authorized. You can do crazy things with plasti dip, and when you get bored of it, you just find a corner and peel it off. Also it protects the original paint.
The cleaning product for the plasti dip is a spray wax, they have it on dipyourcar.com.

Berty1970 Supercharging the 70D
Hello everyone,
As promised, I have taken data down when supercharging my 70D. I have supercharged her 4 times so far. The attached graphics are from 3 supercharging sessions. There were 2 in Drummondville on Supercharger 1A and 1 at the Ferrier Street Tesla Store on 1B (as per Kushari's suggestion). For that last supercharging session, there was another Tesla charging next to me on 1A. This may explain the less that linear graph for a section of the data. I took pictures of my screen every minute (I missed a few but very little, gaps in the first few graphs). That is the first series of 3 graphs. Then, I combined the data in a less than rigorous scientific fashion. The curves are pretty linear regardless of the supercharging session therefore I used the percentage of battery as the common point to merge the data together.
![]()
![]()
![]()
Now the merged data:
![]()
This last graph shows the additional data that I put in the merged graph. The data points don't align as I'm no Excel expert. What I did was to include the overlapping data points for X axis 31 and further i.e. battery percentage of 61% to 89%. If you transpose visually to x-axis 31 or battery % 61%, you will see that the data is superposable.
![]()
So, essentially, it seems that you get the same performance for supercharging based on your battery percentage. I used only percentages and kW for these graphs but will be doing the same exercise again for km/hr recharge. I just couldn't figure out the formula to transfer the kW into km/hr recharge. It was late last night. Anyone welcome to contribute.
Hopefully this is useful to you.
Regards,
Berty.
Jul 13, 2015
drodriguez
Great. Thanks for the info.
Jul 13, 2015
Kratus Hi Berty,
Thank you for sharing the data.
For the formula, you just have to divide the kW by the rated Wh/km and multiply by 1000.
If your rated range is 186Wh/km (300 Wh/mile), then 120 kW equates to:
120/186x1000=645 km/h

Thanks Berty! You were more than awesome. I felt very welcomed! I used to live in Montreal by the way.
Jul 14, 2015
Berty1970 Hi Kratus,
Thanks for the formula. I've tried it but it doesn't seem to work when I work with the data I have. If I understand correctly, I need to know the rated Wh/km from my car at the beginning of the charge. If I estimate it (or use the average of 200 Wh/km - which is close to my current reality), I don't get the same number after calculation. Here are some data:
So, as you can see, it is not lining up when using 156 Wh/km for the first value (real km/hr), the rest don't line up...
Minutes kW +kWh Amps Volts % Rated Range real km/hr km Calculated km/hr 18 56 18 168 332 59 226 358 101 358.974359 19 59 19 176 334 60 230 357 106 378.2051282 20 57 20 170 335 61 234 365.3846154 21 55 21 165 335 63 242 353 116 352.5641026 22 53 22 158 336 64 245 339.7435897 23 52 23 155 337 66 253 348 128 333.3333333 24 51 23 151 337 67 257 346 132 326.9230769 25 50 24 148 338 68 261 343 136 320.5128205 26 48 25 144 338 69 265 340 140 307.6923077
Any help would be appreciated. The issue I have is that the very first supercharging I did I took the non percentage values and it would be great to have the % values as I started at 24 km range...
Thanks for your help.
Berty
Jul 14, 2015
Kratus Hmm, I think the difficulty here is to guess the rated Wh/km, which is probably fluctuating. But I find the results are not so bad.
Why did you only get 50 kW? Was there another car charging on the paired stall?
Jul 15, 2015
kushari There is something wrong with the Montreal super chargers. Firstly there are only two. So they are in parallel. Secondly the one Berty was on when I was there, I know to be very slow. I reported it to the staff. Even when there wasn't another car there it was charging at under 100 amps. The other charger that actually charges faster I had issues with stopping a charge 5 minutes after it started. The service guy unplugged it and plugged it back in and then it eventually worked. They need to get way more chargers in Montreal.
Jul 15, 2015
bonaire Did you pick up a CHAdeMO cable as well? It can help in other areas on the Sun Country Highway.
Sun Country Highway Announces Partnership with ABB
Jul 15, 2015
Berty1970 Hi Kratus,
As Kushari says, the chargers in Montreal seem to be in need of a checkup. There was a car next to me and that had some influence on the Amps I was getting as you can see from the graph. However, the other Supercharger used, Drummondville, gave me similar results with regards to the kW. So, I don't think it was really the fact that there was another car there but because of the % charge that my battery was at. If am able to figure out how to use the formula you gave me, I'll have data starting at 5% charge. This shows much higher kW that tapers down as the %battery increases.
Haven't gotten the CHAdeMO yet. Still thinking about it.
Thanks again.
Berty

Lex I read thru most if not all of the Eastern Canada Supercharger thread (200+ pages), said the Montreal store location has no decent power infrastructure so that's all they were able to do... on my 1st drive to Montreal from Toronto I was planning to juice to 100 at Cornwall and see if I can get back after a couple of days of parking (with or without an overnight plug).
Jul 16, 2015
Berty1970 Hi Lex,
its not not that bad really. I don't think you should avoid it at all and the staff is extremely friendly. The curve at the store is not that bad and quite on par with the Drummondville SC.
