HOLY S******.... Congratulations, that is sooo awesome. And also great kudos to Ingineer for his posts.
Enjoy the car, hope Tesla gives it the all clear.
Jul 21, 2015
wk057 Nice. Glad it's up and running.

Brass Guy I've been watching closely hoping for a positive outcome. Congratulations, and many happy miles to you!
Jul 21, 2015
Kalud Congrats! I knew it was about to reach Hallelujah state at any moment

Jul 21, 2015
pgiralt That's great to hear! Out of curiosity, are you planning on having Tesla inspect the car so you can get 3G and Supercharging working as well?
Jul 21, 2015
Max* I've been following this thread, glad to hear it's resolved!
Jul 21, 2015
Yauheni I need to finish up few little things on it, order few little pieces and then will see, its possible that i will do that.
Funny thing is that my rear passenger door always opens by itself. I cant tell exactly when it started to happen, but i noticed it right after bodywork was done to the car. So basically when the 12V battery was disconnected, and as soon as i connect the 12V battery door opens. When i sit in the car press Brake, door opens. I can close it every time as right now, but definitely will have to fix it.
I want to give many Thanks to Ingineer for all his help. Its been not an easy project for me, and without your help I probably wouldnt have this done. Its a great place to get advice and real help.
People here are awesome! Im glad I can be part of Tesla Owners Family.
Thanks again!!!
Jul 21, 2015
BoldSharpe Yes! Congrats. I'm also curious about 3G and SuperCharging.
Jul 21, 2015
Jeff P I've been quietly watching your story, and it certainly has been fascinating. Congrats! Would love to see a post-mortem summary... how much you spent, how much time, etc.
Jul 21, 2015
Ingineer I knew we'd get it! Congrats!
Check the 12V voltage and let me know what it is after car has been on for a few minutes.
Jul 21, 2015
Yauheni The voltage on the 12V right now around 13.6V, which increased from 12.3V overnight, meaning that battery pack charged up the 12V battery. I can also see that my battery pack charge dropped from 152 to 140 over this first night.
Jul 21, 2015
Ingineer Also, as for the door handle, the trigger switch is likely just needing adjustment. When the motor extends the handle, the switch triggers because it thinks someone is pulling on it.

13.6v is the default output from the DC-DC in the event no CAN bus is present. I was hoping to see something higher, indicating Absorption phase. Is the CAN bus connected properly?
Jul 21, 2015
Yauheni I think the CAN bus connected properly. But I will recheck when I get home again. Also, thanks for advice on the Trigger Switch Adjustment.
Jul 21, 2015
tga Awesome news, congrats!
Jul 21, 2015
jaguar36 This is awesome news.
It would be great if you could document some of what you did and what issues you ran into for future DIYers. Would be great to build up a repository of repair info since Tesla is so reluctant to provide any.
Jul 21, 2015
wk057 It's definitely possible that the CAN bus is connected but the DC-DC has a different module firmware loaded and is not responding the updated commands. Just a hunch based on how everyone I've spoken to at Tesla says these things are handled in software. Every procedure I've seen that replaces any module includes verifying the firmware on it.
Jul 21, 2015
BoerumHill Congrats!
What an amazing thread.
Jul 21, 2015
Roadrunner13 You'll be getting a lot of these from us/lurkers that couldn't contribute but have been following you, Ingineer, Spaceballs and a couple of others working through this...and it was enlighting!
Congrats to you for your persistence and to all others that helped out and now for the fun part... ENJOY your Tesla!!!

neroden For reference, you own your copy of Windows. What you don't own is the right to make & distribute copies, which leads to all kinds of weird messes in software law because the courts have misinterpreted the phrase "fixed in a medium of expression" and have interpreted copies in RAM to be "copies". The law in this area is pretty convoluted and poorly understood by a lot of people, including judges, and companies like Microsoft make a point of attempting to mislead people even more about the state of the law. But the key point, if you want to look it up, is First Sale Doctrine.
I'm quite sure they can't. If we fought that sort of ******** in the court of public opinion, we'd win. If we fought it in court, we'd *also* win...
Tesla sells its cars. (I carefully read the purchase agreement.) A bunch of stuff is implied by 'sale'. (And if you leased your car, you have much less.) As green1 says, they can deny warranty coverage (and they should deny it), they can stop providing software updates (and they shouldn't stop), they can refuse to provide documentation (they should provide documentation) but they can't legally disable a car which you own in fee simple; you'd have grounds to sue for damages if they did.
The problem is precisely one of "pulling a fast one". I hope Tesla acts reasonable.
Meanwhile, congrats to Yauheni. And thanks to Tesla for being reasonable and helpful to him!
I would warn Yauheni: until you get clear cooperation from Tesla, don't put the 3G card back in, just in case of the remote (ha ha) possibility Tesla tries to disable your car remotely. Without the 3g connection, they can't.
- - - Updated - - -
I don't think they can legally disable it, but they totally could illegally disable it. Even if that's unlikely, I doubt you want to risk it. So don't take it in until you get their promise in writing that they won't disable it.
Jul 22, 2015
Yauheni I checked the Voltage on the 12V battery, it is 13.9V for the first second, and then it drops to around 13.6V, sometimes to 13.3V and raising up to 13.6V. I didnt see 14V+ on it thou. I dont know why, but this is what I see.
Jul 22, 2015
JimmyAZ Congratulations from Phoenix!! So glad you've got her moving and charging! I'm now glued to this thread.
Jul 22, 2015
Ingineer Well, if it exceeded 13.6, then it's definitely under control of the BMS. The variance convinces me it's running under the algorithm. Make sure the battery terminals are tight and nothing is loose on any of the other heavy connections.
If your 3G is shut off, then it's likely Tesla isn't going to disable your car, but you could pull the SIM card just to be safe. You have to take a lot apart to get to it though!
Jul 22, 2015
Yauheni Yes. I see that voltage changes, but i never seen over 14V yet. 3G sim card is out. Its been out since i bought the car. Want to try sometime if supercharger will work on it or not. I heard that it wont, but still want to check it out.
Jul 22, 2015
Ingineer Well, it's possible that the SC isn't going to work because you are stuck at such an old version. I have an idea, I'll PM you.
Jul 22, 2015
tdiggity This happened to me a couple times. Tesla replaced all the door handles. Do you have the newer door handles that open and then go in a couple millimeters? or ones that just stay fully extended? If it's the fully extended ones, then you might try asking Tesla to give you the new style ones.
Jul 25, 2015
mejojo I think it would be interesting to document, of all the tests made and the parts replaced, what were the ones necessary to get from A to B now that you have the result.
Jul 25, 2015
mspisars Any update on the supercharging attempt?
Jul 25, 2015
Ingineer Yauheni is on a camping trip. We're going to try a few experiments when he gets back, We'll post the results.
I'm not going to spend a lot of time documenting the diagnostics, that would take more time than I've already spent. I'd rather help someone else with that precious time. Besides, each case is going to be different.
If someone else wants to summarize the posts, go right ahead. I don't think is a good use of resources though.
Jul 31, 2015
mspisars I don't want this thread to fall off the radar...
So, is there anymore info on the supercharge attempt?
Yauheni - are you considering putting a little overview of the process to get to this point?

Jul 31, 2015
Yauheni I didnt try yet to put it on supercharge because i need to charge it up first before going to supercharge station. I will try it after wall charger will be installed.
I dont know if the process summary will help much, because each case is different. However the thread has some problems and solutions.
We are trying another experiment here, but it may take some time. If we make it work, i will def let you all know.
Good weekend!!!

Yauheni One more thing!
Finally my Wall Charger was installed last night. It was something that i was waiting for a long time. So last night I was able to charge my Tesla @ 80A Wall Charger from about 60 miles to 200+ miles range, and then I stopped. The reason because it was very very noisy, the fans were spinning really fast, at full speed for a long time. I Was afraid something may go wrong. I dont know exactly why it was that noisy, possibly that my AC is not charged yet, so it was trying to cool down and couldnt ?! Not Sure.
Anyways, Now I got enough charge to go to SuperCharging station just to try if its going to supercharge or not, before we do any other experiments.
Still waiting on some little parts that I need for my Tesla. It takes time. For some reason Tesla parts shipping got much much slower than few months ago.

jaguar36 I'd wait and charge your AC system before doing any supercharging. Or at least do it on a cold day. Looks like you were charging when it was 94 degrees, would make sense that the car was unable to cool the pack and charging equipment as well as it should have been able too. I'd imagine though that it would be smart enough to shut down charging if anything got to hot. Did you notice if it charged at the full amperage for the whole time? I know ours sometimes drops the amps, but that may be because the UMC is getting too hot, not the car.
Aug 11, 2015
Yauheni My plan is to charge the AC before going to SuperCharger station. The amps i believe were 79Amp when i turn it off.
Aug 11, 2015
Kalud You absolutely needs AC for Supercharging.
Aug 11, 2015
Ingineer Yes, don't risk damaging your pack!
Aug 11, 2015
Gizmotoy Indeed. The AC system runs like crazy when hooking up to the Supercharger. Particularly when at low SOC and maximum charge rate, but it doesn't taper too much even when nearly full. Definitely don't want to overheat.
Either way, great progress!
Aug 11, 2015
Yauheni I hope Tesla has some kind of protection, when it gets too hot, dangerous to make a damage, it shuts it off or something. Is it True or Not?
Aug 11, 2015
Ingineer I would think they have, but you don't want to find out! You're going to want the A/C working in AZ anyway, just get it fixed!
Aug 17, 2015
Yauheni Hi. Little update.
I got alignment done on the car at BigOTires. They have software it was easy job)) AC was charged with ND'11 Oil. I went to supercharging station this weekend and succesfully charged my Tesla to 300 miles range))
Aug 17, 2015
pgiralt Fantastic news! So is the car fully operational now?
Aug 17, 2015
Yauheni

Aug 17, 2015
Yauheni Well I started to drive it. Still little things to adjust here and there, but overall its great))
Aug 17, 2015
shadowinstallz Nice
Aug 17, 2015
shadowinstallz Nice! I'm assuming this is Ideal Range
Aug 18, 2015
mspisars That is awesome news!
This entire project -- with successful result -- makes me really happy!
Given that one does not have physical damage to the bat or drive-unit(s) one can get the car back on the road on their own!
Thank you for this thread Yauheni!
Aug 18, 2015
EVenthusiast So what was the total cost, and would you do it all over again? This has been a very interesting thread, thanks for keeping us updated!
Aug 18, 2015
skboston It would be nice when you have time to make a post with summary of the overall costs/headaches and general advice for people that decide to take your path.
Congratulations on the successful project after so many months and what I'm sure was not an easy one!
