EU finalize and deliveries part 1

  • Oct 7, 2015
    felixtb
just thought I'd start this thread again but now for Model X European requests to finalize and eventual deliveries. Considering that Ohmman has now gotten a mail about imminent configuration for the remainder of US reservation holders........

Hope to be back soon with good news for the rest of us :)

Despite several phone calls and emails to local Benelux management, they do not even bother to mail or call back. Not even to tell me they do not have a clue themselves...

Your signature implies you ORDERED your X already, but I guess you are also still wait

    pjhartog
Wow, the effectiveness of TMC is significant and far reaching. Country manager just asked me to specify my concerns so she could address them. I did as asked and will report if I hear anything.

    felixtb
    Great.

Yah you are of course right. But the minute I can configure and confirm I will. So the vehicle is as good as ordered. :)

    Of and when. Joyeux nol
  • Dec 21, 2015
    felixtb
    Yes joyeux nol!

But I doubt we will be able to configure before well into the new year..... I had hoped deliveries in Europe would begin with the geneva auto show but have adjusted my expectations to mid spring........... For now :)

    The Benelux country manager responded:

We do not know when the first Model X will be delivered in Europe or how much time there will be between Sig en GP. We also do not have info about pricing but I think it will be comparable to the US Model S vs Eur Model S price difference.

The Signature is specifically a special, limited edition, besides being delivered earlier. Elon makes it no secret that your deposit is used to develop the new models.

But you will be able when you get the invitation early next year to configure, to go for a General Production model and then you will be first in line to receive on of the first 'normal Xs'.

You - being no 44 in Europe, have an awful lot of people behind you

    end quote

You will have even more behind you !

She also added that her expectation - not official - off the record - not to be quoted - is that deliveries will be mid year - but I did not put that in this post.

With todays final push to configure the remainder of the US production reservations it seems as TESLA has really forgotten about the non US reservation holders for now. I think I might have to be happy if I get my early EU sig before the end of the year..... :-(
  • Jan 11, 2016
    pjhartog
I fear a repeat of 2013 with Sig deliveries starting inSeptember and GP a week after that
  • Jan 11, 2016
    Refie
That would be nice for some of us..
  • Jan 12, 2016
    pjhartog
I would downgrade to a GP in that case - given that the price of a SIG is usually higher than a similar speced GP.
  • Jan 12, 2016
    felixtb
Well This time it seems the sigs are actually carrying a discount over the GPs, at least in the US....... We'll see. :)
  • Jan 12, 2016
    vandacca
The same also seems to be the case in Canada. The exchange rate of the Sig appears to be really good, but they haven't announced the GP pricing yet in Canada. Hopefully soon, but I expect it to be significantly higher than a comparably configured Sig.

OK, so now we are getting closer to being issued VINs and production cues and so on. So I figured that maybe we can use this thread to determine when the first VINs are given so We can predict when the first Xes will arrive in Europe.....

Considering that US orders with issued VINs are now slipping in to beginning of June deliveries and initially I had been suggested end June beginning of July timeframe for my EU Sig..... maybe this will still hold but probably end July beginning of August would seem more plausible....

From the MS deliveries we pretty much know that from VIN to delivery there is a good 2 moths wait.......

    Hi felixtb,
got the information from my DS that the they hope the first MX will come to Europe at the end of summer...
I hope your Signature X is faster.

Guess initially they were planning to produce the European Sig X in April for a June delivery (before end of Q2), but with the delays they may shifted the start of European production towards July, with delivery before end of Q3 ... the same as they did with the Sig. S in 2013 ...

Got mine too: 5YJXCCE48GFS00977. Without having read the full thread, do I understand correctly that you experts expect the first MX's in two months from now?
  • Apr 17, 2016
    felixtb
Oh I don't know if there are any experts around when it comes to Tesla timing...... :)

However, I base my HOPES on two pieces of information.

1/ Mr. Rudat said at the EU revel in Geneva that the first deliveries should happen around end june beginning of July and that has apparently not changed according to one of the service managers....

and 2/ that my previous two MSs were delivered two about 2 to 2.5 months after the VIN appeared in the dashboard

so expert I would not say but there is at least a shimmer of hope.... :)

However, it is funny that I received my VIN before you but it is a higher number than yours and than some other EU VINs I have seen.... and I was reservation number #4 for Europe......?! I am confused to what this might mean in reality...... Could possibly just be configuration differences and therefore production line placement.........
  • Apr 17, 2016
    Wiebe
    Hi Felix,

Thanks, I agree with your expert calculation, but that might just be wishful thinking ;-)

I do not know how long my VIN has been issued by the way, as I do not visit MyTesla regularly at all. I do know that mine was one of the first Sig's in Europe but which specific? Don't have a clue.

From what I remembered of the MS deliveries in 2013 Tesla does not exactly manufacture according to the sequence in which the cars are ordered. For example, one of the first changed his Sig Perf MS to Sig Perf + and had to wait for months extra because of it. At that time, it seemed that cars were manufactured in batches of similar build. But, at that time, Tesla's production was not to be compared to nowadays.
  • Apr 18, 2016
    necho
I had for the Model S reservation sequence #4 and had a VIN 14972, significantly higher than yours of the Model S, Felix. And, btw, Wiebe, I had a Perf + and was among the first deliveries, so no extra wait. But I was surprised that at the same delivery day there was one with sequence +-#400 ... that was the reason I made my X Sig. reservation rather late ... still have the RN Number, looks like they get it this time more right :)
  • Apr 18, 2016
    Wiebe
I am convinced that Tesla has it's production and delivery cues much better organised than roughly 3 years ago. Just a tour in the Tilburg factory shows that to the fullest, nothing compared to 2013. That was European pioneer stage - to put it mildly. But, it seems that the MX is moving sooner than we expected!
  • Apr 18, 2016
    Novalis
I do not want to dash your hopes on an end of June delivery, but I spoke to my DS in Paris on Friday and he told me that the first MX EU delivery is 'scheduled at the end of the summer' (i.e end of August/beginning of September?). On a brighter note, he excluded delivery of any MX to the EU in Q2..which leaves the possibility of an early delivery in July for Sig and P90L reservation holders. It seems to be supported by facts: very few MX have been yet confirmed in Europe due to the limited possibility of actually seeing one; delivering as many orders to the US market in Q2 on the other hand, seems to be Tesla's priority, as it is under pressure to meet its quarterly delivery target after the Q1 miss. If all goes very well, Tesla might be able to deliver 6000 MX to the US market before the end of June, which seems in line with both (1) the current low MX order conversion rate (20%?) BUT (2) the likely acceleration of US orders following wider access to Model X in US showrooms as well as the recent opening of the design studio in the US to non-reservation holders. Given the fact that MX is a beautiful high-risk venture, it makes financial sense to lower the likelihood of a recall in Tesla's largest foreign market.
  • Apr 19, 2016
    Wiebe
Hi Novalis, you've just dashed my hopes ;-)

I must be honest, my "prognosis" is merely based on the fact that we got a VIN plus the reference with the MS delivery in 2013. Your arguments seem more sound. Thanks for sharing it.
  • Apr 19, 2016
    Hyvtti
My DS in Finland told my VIN might arrive this week or next, and that would mean end June/early July delivery. But who knows.
  • Apr 19, 2016
    Mario Kadastik
When did you confirm and was it a signature or production. Which model? Got one on order just over the bay so likely similar timescales if indeed similar config/confirm time...
  • Apr 20, 2016
    Hyvtti
Signature, ordered March 3rd, confirmed March 17th. But if they have ramped the production, deliveries could be quite close together. Who knows
  • Apr 20, 2016
    Wiebe
So it is fair to conclude that the Tesla DS's give different estimates. At least mine has not responded to the question about estimated delivery yet, even though I asked days ago. Plus I promised I wouldn't keep him up on that estimate.

Funny thing is that I went to see the MX a month or so ago in Tilburg NL. I spoke to several Tesla people, of course about ordering and delivery. No concrete answer at all, and certainly ordering was not in sight according to them. 1,5 week later I could order, all of a sudden. My hunch is that de EU Tesla people are surprised by the sudden speed from the US.

Too bad though no clear and consistent answer about delivery is possible. Tesla hasn't learned much from MS delivery. OR... it is a marketing approach and nobody is to know!
  • Apr 22, 2016
    Hyvtti
I got update by email from my DS that car would be out from production by May 1st. I guess that would mean I'm on track for end June/early July delivery.

    Wiebe
Thats pretty good news! What is your VIN if I may ask?
  • Apr 22, 2016
    Novalis
    Hi Wiebe,

I have a bit more news from Tesla: they confirmed -at this stage- that the first MX to reach Continental Europe will be the Sig and P90D probably in July, followed by the 90D later in the summer. In my discussion, it became clear that they are aiming at delivering 'quality' MX in Europe, i.e vehicles that should not be affected by defects or issues that plagued too many of the early US units. It reinforced my view that, whatever the ramp up in the US, Tesla is unlikely to accelerate deliveries to Europe and even to start European production lines before the last possible moment, giving themselves another month or so of exclusive domestic output that should end up being closely monitored.

Please let us know when you get yours! Good luck!
  • Apr 22, 2016
    felixtb
I think that we here in the EU are also affected by the delay being noticed in the US. So my hopes have now slipped to mid to end July. Which is also fine for me.

Congrats! I wonder what your DS estimates as delivery window? Finally got a call from my Dutch DS. He couldn't tell me what to expect. When I mentioned that their international collegues DID have an estimate (being end June/begin July) he said that he anticipated that this estimate was right.

He told me that European Sigs are ready to be produced any time now. As soon as they leave on train to the west coast and arrive to be shipped there for crossing the Atlantic the DS gets a call. So do I he promised.

So, I guess we'll have a hot summer with the X if nothing goes wrong!

P.S: anybody knew that the cars are being SHIPPED from Rotterdam to Tilburg? The containers are unloaded from a boat approx 500 meters from the assembly factory in Tilburg. Never knew that!

So now the first EU cars are being finalised and then how does it work? They must regularly ship a lot of Model S to Europe and they fill up the ship with Model Xs as well? How many cars per ship and how are they then distributed around EU? Maybe irrelevant questions but I am curious of why they say end June if the car should be done in a week or so and what is reasonable delivery numbers to the EU per week or month. Anybody has answers or well informed guesses?
  • May 10, 2016
    felixtb
well firstly the use scheduled ships. and secondly to meet these ships they back track schedule transportation from carlifornia to the east coast.... I believe Baltimore. Then when the reach Europe they have to be shipped to Tillberg and the. finally to their final destinations..... so the cars actually have to be done about now to be at all able to be delivered in Europe by the end of June.

    hope this help

We took delivery of our new Solid black X90D today at Tesla servicecenter in Aarhus Denmark. The pictures says it all. Well the color and the 90D is correct. Everything else is wrong...

Our X90D went straight back into the shop. Driver front door did not work at all...

Sorry to hear that. I can only imagine how much you were looking forward to receiving the X, being one of the early reservation holders. I am also very much looking forward to taking delivery myself.

On the bright side, Tesla did its utmost to deliver the cars before the apocalyptic New Danish Tax Date of 1 July. That makes it more understandable why they might have skipped some QA tests that normally should have detected (and fixed) the malfunctioning front door.

Hope they'll be able to fix it soon so you can enjoy your X!

We got our Model X about 9 hours later when they had fixed the broken door. Now the problem is the car alarm goes off every time the car feels lonely. And this feeling comes avery 15-20 minutes. So we had to disable the car alarm and are going back to the service center on monday.

Quite funny though, we called the Tesla hotline when the problem first occurred:
Tesla: "Can I have you VIN number"
    Me: "yes 6885"
Tesla: "Sorry, this is an incorrect VIN Number"
Me: "No the last digits are 6885"
    Tesla: "Must be 6 digit"
    Me "oh, sorry 006558"
Tesla: long silence... then: You said this was a new car?"
Me: "Yes, Tesla Model X VIN 6558"
Tesla: "oooh... Model X, sorry you have to contact the service center in Denmark..."

But besides these small problem, THIS CAR IS SO COOL :)

We are already planning our road trip to Switzerland on Tuesday from Denmark through Germany to pick up our new Bernese Mountain dog to bring this home. So from Tuesday and forward it will be possible to spot a X90D on the A5 in Germany :)

    Super choice you made! ;)
Carbon here as well, but have opted for the 20" Helix (don't like the standard rims)

We will pick up the dog around Bern (have to have a Bernese Mountain dog from Bern :) ) early friday morning and heading back with first stop at Egerkingen (CH). And then lots and lots of stops within this 1200 km trip back to Denmark in one day to avoid any "accidents" inside the car with the little puppy. I expect 7 or more SuC stops on the way. Maybe not all needed, but both dog and kids will need the brakes ;-)

So I guess you will have a head start, and unless you spent more than one day through germany you will go through before us. But we do live almost next to the E45 and Randers SuC in Denmark, so you are welcome to drop by on your trip back if that goes through Denmark as well :)

@kiefer. Sorry to hear about your problems. I thought you already been at Tesla in the morning but Morten looked as a question mark when I asked him and told me yours where the black one. Hope to meet you and Ida another time

    Meanwhile
Now its time to post a link images from my delivery friday Model X Delivery Postimage.org

The car is just amazing, everything is flawless in function. Only thing is the usual alignment is not par with german manufacturers, but I knew that before deciding to buy the thing. It is nonetheless much better than our Model S 2014.

Handling is amazing for a SUV and its more silent than our S. The skyview blows me away. Driving up to top speed is rocksteady. FWD works perfect and we can even open and get in the 2./3. row in our very narrow garage.

Any questions and I will be delighted to answer ;-)

wasn't the new Danish tax on EV effective back in Jan of this year?
  • Jun 26, 2016
    kiefer
Yes. But there was an exception if you had a written and confirmed agreement with your dealer to purchase a car before the 8. of October last year. And if the car was delivered before first of July 2016.

Unfortunately the danish tax service does not recognize the reservation agreement as a confirmed and written agreement to purchase the car. So for the moment we are having a fight to get our 40.000 USD back from the tax service.

Our "low end" X90D was a more than 167.000 USD car due to the tax...
We took the base X90D and added only the tow hitch and 6 seats option, every other option was skipped to keep the price at a minimum.

We are planning to add the auto pilot since this is only 2700-3700 USD (depending of which country we choose to get it installed in) instead of the 4850 USD if we had added it from the beginning...
