cmu5p With 0 referrals and from VA, I am both! Long shot, but hoping for a gigaparty invite.

And you will love your car. You will look for reasons to drive. (Like near-cross country to attend a gigaparty.

Oct 26, 2015
OlderThanDirt Our order is in!!! Since we have that cross country gigaparty to attend  We went max range with a loaded 90D. Delivery scheduled for very early spring. It sounds like a lot of cars have been ordered in the past couple weeks so anyone who wants delivery yet this year better order very soon.
Thank you!!!
Oct 26, 2015
FredTMC nice! Congrats! Hey, why can't you get delivery before end of year? Tesla Website still has December delivery available.,.
Oct 26, 2015
OlderThanDirt You still can get a December delivery but our purchase advisor said build spots are filling up fast. We choose to take delivery in the spring. For years we've taken delivery of new cars late in the year. So time to change it up a bit and start enjoying the new Tesla going into spring and summer. We've waited years for this so a few more months should be easy right??? (I hope so, boy do I hope so):wink:
Oct 26, 2015
FredTMC nice! Thx
Oct 26, 2015
Cattledog Won't be easy, will make it better though.

islandbayy I'm the runner up behind you with 16. We're the top 2 in the North American market that arn't cheating (I call google adsense ad's, eBay and spam cheating). Congrats, if they disqualify the cheaters, your getting the Model S trade up. Hoped to get that, my cars falling apart
Oh, BTW, do you have the contact info for that guy at corporate? No one has contacted me yet, and I'm curious about how many of my referees have taken delivery and status of the program.
I also have a youtube following, and my loyal viewers have been kindly using my link. I will be bringing one of my referees (choosing using a drawing) to the gigafactory opening with me as my +1
Oct 26, 2015
TheAccuser I'm curious to see how that is handled. Tesla leaves it up to their discretion, but the way I read this...people that leveraged the forms of cheating you mention would have their rewards revoked. I wouldn't mind getting into a P90DL.

cmu5p Congratulatuions, OtD!!! The wait is painful but oh so worth it.
And, thank you, thank you. Gigaparty or not, you have validated me by putting my name on the (last) place of honor on the leaderboard.

TheAccuser You posted this in another thread:
I know we are all having fun here, but why lie about the number of referrals you have?
Oct 27, 2015
cmu5p Whoa there, Accuser (apropo).
No ones lying about anything. I have a second guy who emailed me about using my code, but is checking to see if model S fits in his garage. So the only thing you should really accuse me of is counting my chickens before they hatch. No need to be testy, I will gladly post a leaderboard screenshot when or if his order comes through.
- - - Updated - - -
Here you go, Accuser, I fixed it.

Oct 27, 2015
HankLloydRight It does that for everyone .. It lists the top 50 and then yourself (at the bottom if you have less then the #50 person).
Oct 27, 2015
TheAccuser Sorry, didn't mean to accuse you of doing anything in bad taste...was just curious what the point was. I understand you were counting a referral that didn't officially sign up yet. I feel bad for calling you out on fibbing. If I could gift you two of my referrals to send you to the GF party, I would.

Oct 27, 2015
TheAccuser I wonder if there are going to be a flurry of orders during the last 3 days of the referral program. I'd love to see a real-time ticker of the Model S orders going through.
I'm now tied for 4th in North America. Would love to take sole possession of 4th just in case the top 3 guys get disqualified from the rewards. Would love to be the official top referrer in North America and get a P90DL! Hurry up, only 4 days left to get $2000 of a Model S. Per usual, if you are reading this thread and need any help/guidance, pm me and I'll help out any way I can with decisions on options/model/etc.

f-stop Good news for Canadian buyers...
Well, I'm not among those during the final 3 days of the program, but count me as someone who ordered in the final week.
I finally placed an order a couple days ago on a new 70D. After months of research and indecision/debate, the referral program plus the help of friendly TMC members got me to finally pull the trigger. Couldn't be more excited to soon be a Model S owner
By the way, for the benefit of any fellow Canadians out there considering a Model S purchase... I'm happy to report that the full $2k credit is available to buyers across the border here in Canada too. I had seen some discussion elsewhere of UK and EU buyers and the VA/OH referral credit, but until today I couldn't find absolute confirmation it would work here north of the 49th.
After placing my order with a VA referral code, the purchase agreement showed the original $1k credit (as expected). But my advisor said the additional VA/OH portion of the credit could only be given to buyers who register their car in the US. Of course, if you read the letter to VA/OH owners (see OP's post), the letter makes no mention of any restriction to location of the buyer who receives 2k credit. After getting him to dig further into the matter, today he got confirmation from management that they must pay the 2k to the buyer. My paperwork hasn't yet been updated but I'm told I will get the $2k credit (CDN$ of course). At least this will help partially offset the 7% price hike we got here in Canada in late August

e-FTW Yes, happy to help f-stop! Excellent write up.
The lawyers are telling them they have to pay the full 2000$ amount, no matter where the buyer is located, even outside the US.
The language that VA/OH owners received was simply not specific enough.

cmu5p I am honored to at least be on the board. I told the kids I was famous!

Aww. Thanks, Accuser. Rooting for you and your upgrade. Are you also getting a Founders X? I have no expectations, but it would've awesome to rub shoulders with the gigapeeps next year.

cmu5p Words I long to hear from my own husband......
Oct 30, 2015
ardart99 Where coming up on the last day of the discount. Looks like I'll be short 3 referals on reaching 10 ..... but I have to say that never was or is an important incentive. As was intended it was created to give something to the owner community who has always been it's best salespersons and generate some sales from the community. Yes .. there are the whiners about the car ... they exist in everything ... but most of us just deal with problems ourselves, if something breaks we go to the source and man up and if necessary do what it takes, but for me the Tesla service far exceeds any I've ever had. I got stopped and asked about the car this morning at breakfast and on the boulevard at lunch ..... and it is a pleasure to take the time to answer questions, allow pictures sitting in the car and be helpful. We don't need the incentive to do that, the car stands on it's own, and I will continue to do it incentive or not. I am excited to make the trip to the Gigafactory (in Virginia we don't get the $ incentive due to a backward and most likely dealer controlled board, all appointed) ... but who cares .... Elon stepped up stuck a thumb in their eye and said ...OK the entire discount goes to the buyer .... alright Elon! Would I have gotten the X if I got to 10 ... darn right .. that says it all about the car ....Everyone enjoy your car .....

Oct 30, 2015
Zybane Ya, I figure the remote cool-down of the car would help and I'm also getting 3m Crystalline tint installed.
Wow, only one more eh? Has someone already gotten ten referrals in our area (VA) for a free X? If so, you still have the chance to get a nice Model X upgrade or new Ludicrous P90D.
Oct 30, 2015
TheAccuser You don't have the rules of the program straight.
When Tesla says region, that means North America, not each state.
Only 1 person in all of North America receives a free Model X for getting to 10 referrals FIRST. Only 1 person in each region receives the P90DL upgrade. ALL qualified referrers get a chance to buy a Founders Model X if they hit 10 referrals.
Oct 30, 2015
Zybane Still not bad if you want a Model X.
Oct 30, 2015
ardart99 Not a bad deal at all ............. but getting one more on anything can be a long way and it's only 1 more day ..... I'm just happy about the Gigafactory trip ..... going to swing over to the Fremont CA and visit the factory while out to that side of the country ....
Just need to decide if I want to fly or drive my Tesla all the way to Nevada and then California and back ..... done it many times over the years but it's a push ....
... but hey ... no gas cost .....

Oct 31, 2015
ardart99 Wow ... last day of the referral program ... I really didn't pay much attention to this until I got 4 ... then got excited about a possible Gigafactory trip ..... now I'm sitting at 9 .... the Tesla leaderboard show 2 of us at 9 ..... so now I fighting getting too excited about maybe reaching 10 ...One nice benefits has been messaging back and forth to people who have questions on options and my opinion on features .... wonder how many last minute buyers are out there .... just for the record I was up last night and logged onto my account at 2am EST and it still showed 2 days .... I logged in at 3:14am EST and it changed to 1 day .... so the day counter must be linked to CA time .... so it looks like you East Coast last minute buyers have an extra 3 hours to decide ... ;-)

But a big congrats to everyone finally placing an order today! The more the merrier!
Oct 31, 2015
ardart99 Your right but you do get, so far, $4,000.00 worth of services or stuff for your car. In Virginia and Ohio they banned that so Elon one upped them and said he would just give the entire $2,000.00 to the buyer. Like you say more buyers is better either way .... we all want Tesla to keep being successful .... The leader board show only 2 of us at 9 and 2 that have 5 ..... so you still have today to work with a buyer ....
Oct 31, 2015

pox I thought that they band posing referral links on the forums, about a month ago they had removed them all.
Did they change their minds?
If so mine is http://ts.la/patrick4254 I'm at 4 referrals now and would be willing to use what I have left of $1500 in credit get chargers or whatever ever some one wants to use for Tesla store in addition to the 1k discount. So it would be like saving $2,500. That would get me a gigafactory invite and I could also have them go as my Plus One if they want.

I applaud all the referral peeps, whether in Ohio, Idaho, Antarctica or Mons Olympus. Congratulations to those who shot for a milestone like a PowerWall, free X or just a discount or two, whether you made your goal or not I salute you! Some cars obviously got sold, W00T!!
I doubt by this point I will make 5 and my own goal of a Giga-Trip, but I have a huge Grin because I was able to get CHAdeMO adapters to buyers and most importantly, to popular way-stations like Rouses Market. http://api.plugshare.com/view/location/44919

I guess we still have to see if they all clear..... but it was nice seeing the positive sharing of our experiences with our cars and helping others make their decisions ..... from the looks of the leaderboard Tesla got a lot of sales and that's a very good thing ..... tip of the hat to the guy who got 92 Regional referals (saving 552 tons/yr co2) (the person who was showing over 100 Worldwide isn't showing on my app now ... maybe he broke the bank ............everyone have a great evening ...

e-FTW $2K Off Instead Of $1K From Current VA & OH Owners, Confirmed
Hey all! Am sitting on a plane flying cross-country, and can't sleep because of an unruly child. So why not pop over here, with a few hour to go to this program!
Happy to see a bunch of you made to gigatour just today. That is awesome! This community rocks big time.
I am still sitting at 0, partly because I live in CA, and mainly because I decided to focus on helping others.
As you may know, I used a friend and colleague's referral code from VA. He is a day one type of guy, and he got a Model S in 2012. When my order went through, and confirmed that the 2000$ referral rebate worked anywhere in the US, I got to work: I figured the least I could do to pay him back is get to him to 5 and a gigatour invite. Right?
So I engaged with the fine folks around here, and via pm and email, walked folks throughout the ordering process, picking options, and more importantly, convincing their local DS that, yes, the full 2000$ should be applied to their order. I provided an anonymized copy of my lease agreement, and my friend's email from Elon about the program change.
Just yesterday, we proved that this also works across the border into Canada. Which arguably opens up the whole world! And that made it 5 for him.
My buddy and I work for a company that is located in the Bay Area. And now it seems this karma is paying back: I will be his gigabuddy for the gigatour! Work will get him in the area, and then we are getting into my red Energon (working title) and road-tripping to Reno! Gigaparty, here we come!
(My wife will be massively jealous though. If someone's +1 bails, you know who to pm!)

ardart99 Time to say good bye to the current Buyer Referral Program ...It's coming up on 2am on the east coast ... at 3am it all ends ..... midnight on Tesla CA time .... what a roller coaster ride ... especially for those of us in VA. and Ohio. First got a few referrals out .... no big deal .... some credit for service or something .... then Virginia came out calling it "Bird dogging" saying it was illegal to sell without out a license .... Elon respond immediately giving the entire $2,000.00 to the buyer .... OK ... again no big deal referring the car is just a everyday thing anyway .... then Tesla sent an email out saying only 2 weeks left ... logged in and I had 4 referrals ... wow ... one more and I can go to the Giga factory ..... I posted that in this link and people started messaging, asking questions and about opinions .... and I went over 5 ... alright ... pack my bags ... Reno here I come .... then I log again and I'm at 9 .... whoa ... rollercoaster keep on rolling .... 1 more and a Founders X is in the picture .... and tonight I'm over the 10 mark ... actually just checked again .. now at 14 .... but mainly with a few new friends and a lot of new Tesla owners from all of us ..... yes..... more great fun to owning a already great car .....

islandbayy You didn't do too shabby. Jumped up a good 20 referrals in what, 3 days? Greedy people wanting that 2k off ;-) can't blame em.
Congrats. I'll see you at the Gigafactory!
Nov 1, 2015
Zybane Hah, well when you are spending over $100K on an "optioned" car, every discount helps. It's actually one of the reasons I bought the car. I've never paid MSRP for a car and never will. The $2K off satisfied my requirement. Now I can use the extra money to help with an aftermarket set of wheels. Don't particularly like the stock options. The stock wheel "upgrades" are obviously large profit items.
Hopefully next referral round, other besides OH and VA residents can get in on the action.
Nov 1, 2015
Cattledog An easy option for Tesla would be to give those in other states two codes to use - 2K savings to buyer or 1+1 like we had. That way those in other states can choose and complaints will be limited.
Nov 1, 2015
ardart99 Just so give a more full picture .... Va. & Ohio referers do not get the $1,000.00 split .... the entire $2,000.00 goes the the buyer. That means referrers in other states that get say 4 referes ... they get $4,000.00 worth of Tesla stuff or services ..... Va. & Ohio get nada ..... if another state gets say 5 referals they get $5,000.00 worth of Tesla stuff or services, an invite to the Gigafactory and a power wall .... Va. or Ohio just get the invite and power wall not the $5,000.00 or more all the way up to 10 referals. If other states get 10 referals they have $10,000.00 in services or stuff and a chance to buy a Founders Model X plus the power wall and invite .... again Va. and Ohio get the items but not the $10,000.00. Most of us I think mainly pushed to get 5 to get the invite which is really nice ..... some of us that got to 10 now have the option to buy the Model X discounted, but if we don't take that option we get nothing else ...if another state doesn't buy the Model X they still have the $10,000.00 plus other stuff. I think I would speak for most of us we had rather have gotten the $ credits like everyone else, but our states are rather backward in this area .... at any rate thank you for those who helped us get to our 5 and 10, it was fun helping others make decisions on our great cars.... to those who got both "great" it was all about helping Tesla get more sales and expanding our numbers and help make sure Tesla is around a long time anyway. Now I have to decide if I need 2 Tesla's ....

Nov 1, 2015
Cattledog Good points, I understand that OH and VA people get no $1K credits. Mine was simply that Tesla could have given everyone else in the other 48 states the option of splitting the $2K pot so that buyer and referrer each get $1K or allocating all of the $2K to the buyer. Then it's sort of a roll of the dice for the referrer. Some people would choose the option of (likely) fewer referrals but a few $K in the Tesla account, others might be more willing to give up the few $K to try and get to 5 (where you get a Powerwall worth several $K and a GigaParty invite) or 10 (where you get about $30K in extras for a Model X). Really probably would have depended on whether someone was going to get a Model X and was a sort of confident in potential sales, then taking the easiest path to 10 referrals would be the likely choice, which would be giving $2K to the buyer.
Some people in the other 48 knocked it out of the park and got past 10 so they got credit in their Tesla account, PowerWall, GigaParty invite AND $30K off a Founder's X! Rock and Roll!
I hope Tesla can do some polling to find out how many people would have bought anyways vs. how many jumped in because of the programs. My guess is it generated a couple thousand extra reservations and when you combine it with the generally raving reviews of AutoPilot, you get a knockout quarter for orders and hopefully deliveries.
Nov 1, 2015
andrewket There were a number of people offering to give buyers an additional 1k (or more) from other states.

HankLloydRight But that gets kinda hairy when you're dealing with people that you only know by an internet handle and there are no assurances of not getting stiffed on the $1k kick-back. Now the chances of that are pretty low I'd assume in this community, but if Tesla were to provide that as an official option, it would have made a big difference to the other 48 states for referrers that would have liked to offer that option.

ardart99 Really meant to post this as a general Quick post to the thread not under your comments .... sorryAs usual there are many perspectives on issues and the ones posted here are thoughtful and revelant to the issues. Virginia deciding to categorize people in the program as "bird dogging" is unfortunate, and I'm sure Tesla didn't see it coming, and responded quickly with the intent of just distributing the entire 2k as the full benefit. I think your idea has merit as well as others some have posted ...
I posted what i did because here and other threads some, not all, were seeing this as a one way benefit to Va.& Ohio .... my experience with these buyers was they were on the fence ... and as the clocked ticked down that wanted to take advantage of the discount .... hey 2k is 2k ......
Yes I also hope this generates a huge quarter and yearly result for Tesla ... the stock is taking a bit of a beating right now ....

TheAccuser Well, here we go again! Sorry to those that ordered in a rush to get in before the program ended. Like before, You'll receive $2000 off using my Ohio referral link. Feel free to PM me for direct questions about the ordering process. I can PM you my phone number as well to go into more detail. The biggest help I've been able to provide was to talk through my personal experiences with my car and options. I got every option on my 85D except for the air suspension, so I can help you along if you're trying to decide on specific options.

Max* I don't think the $2k is in effect anymore. The email I got specifically stated that I get nothing besides the chance for a free P90DL, a free powerwall, free Model 3 VIP tickets or free tickets to the gigafactory opening.
Emphasis mine below:

That's the email I got. I want a VIP invite to the Model 3 unveiling event, so feel free to use my code, though I'm not as good a salesperson as others here. I'll gladly answer any questions.

TheAccuser Ah thanks. Missed that. Still good for the buyer to get $1000 off and bring in more Tesla owners!

NJ Plugin Glad to see everybody now under the same rules. And it would be fun going to another Tesla party.
If I get enough referrals for a party invitation, I will make a donation to the NJ Audubon Society.

ardart99 Wow ... already 27 people on the Leaderboard .... deja vu all over again ..... except mine shows as "0" ...... :-( Bet more people pay attention early on ... last time I didn't until 3 weeks before the end and had only 4 ..... Hopefully it all will generate lots of sales for Tesla ..... they need a strong 4th quarter! The last time it became a lot of fun answering questions and helping the last minute buyer's .... really looking forward to the Gigafactory trip .....!! The Model 3 unveiling ... heck ya .... but 10 seems a long way to go ...... 5 was doable ...Wouldn't it be nice to let those who got more than 10 last time only need to get to 5 for the invite .....

AMPUP I had fun with the last competition but left it too late to get to 10. I'd love to get a P90DL (wouldn't we all). It's gonna cost the winner probably 40k in federal tax and another 3-7K in state taxes and then registration. So Free is a relative term but it's still a great deal.
Nov 6, 2015
xborg How do we see leaderboard? Is there a way to see without the app?

AMPUP I don't think so, that's the only place I have seen it

onesixeight Has anyone actually taken delivery of a car and confirmed the $2k discount? I'll be taking delivery of an inventory car next week using $2k discount so I just want to make sure I get it since my delivery person wasn't sure who would make the adjustment. Thanks in advance
Nov 6, 2015
AWDtsla Mine was adjusted this week without me asking anything. Delivery still quite a while away.
Nov 6, 2015
xborg Yeah mine is automatically adjusted too. I can see the discount when I click "view the design" in My Tesla page. (Hence I haven't got the car yet, but should be alright.)

Reeler That said, I think the current Leader in the US is Edward who is an OH/VA owner. Probably still inertia from the last round.
Nov 7, 2015
Zybane My order just went confirmed and it's only showing $1,000 referral when I used a VA referral link. It shows this using the "view design" link on MyTesla. There something I'm suppose to do to get it to show the $2,000?
Nov 7, 2015
pox Did it have to be confirmed before the end of October maybe?
Nov 7, 2015
f-stop not in my case, confirmed 11/3
- I ordered on 10/26 using a VA referral link - at that time MyTesla Design showed only the 1k credit, though I was assued by my Advisor I'd get the 2k
- my order completed on 11/3 - at that time the Order Agreement that's generated in My Documents area showed NO referral credit at all, and likewise it was completely missing when I clicked on the View Design button
- I inquired again and my Advisor assured me I'd get the full referral on the final paperwork
- I checked again yesterday 11/06, and now in View Design it shows the full 2k credit. Under My Documents, the Order Agreement still hasn't been updated, it still shows 11/3 date and no credit.
- I've not yet been contacted directly by my Delivery Specialist (is it normal to not hear from a DS right after order/confirmation??) - so I don't know if something automatically happened between 11/3 - 11/6, or if someone manually did something after I asked. I didn't click on View Design daily after confirmation so I can't say for sure it didn't show up before the 6th.
Nov 7, 2015
onesixeight Thanks for all your replies! I checked with my advisor and they had to manually punch in the discount because I switched from an order car to an inventory car.
The best person to talk to if you have any issues is your owner advisor. Tesla Customer Service referred me back to him.
Nov 7, 2015
Zybane According to my dealer rep, my paperwork will show the $1,000 now but will show the $2,000 off on delivery. I'm not too worried as I have a record of the communication.
Nov 7, 2015
andrewket Tesla doesn't have any dealers. Your sales person, or delivery specialist ...
Nov 7, 2015
Zybane Someone drank too much koolaid.
dealer
[dee-ler]
noun
1.a person or firm engaged in commercial purchase and sale

Nov 7, 2015
bonnie Car dealership - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Since Tesla stores do not have a contract with Tesla Motors, but rather are part of Tesla Motors, Tesla stores don't operate as dealerships.
Bottoms up!

Nov 7, 2015
Zybane One who deals in the sales of good's such as a Tesla dealer rep isn't a narrow defined term such as "dealership". You are specifically referencing a franchise which I am not. Refer to the actual definition of dealer as posted, then you may understand.
intransitive verb
 dealer\?d?-l?r\noun
to sell or distribute something as a business
My rep is a person who deals in the sales of cars no matter what Tesla marketing would have you think.
Nov 7, 2015
bonnie oookay. You just wrap yourself up in that 'I'm right and you're all wrong, dammit!!' blanket, nice and snug.
Peace. Not a big deal to me. But you might get tired of getting corrected continually. Fight the good fight!!
Nov 7, 2015
Zybane lol, it's the same thing with car model year. Are you going to go into some long diatribe about how Tesla "doesn't use car model years" when someone asks you what year your Tesla is? Or are you going to just say it's model year X? Not to mention, other car manufacturers make changes to their cars without waiting/rolling over into a new model year. So Tesla doesn't have a sole claim to that. They are just trying to appeal as "fresh/hip", but I can't fault them for that.
Nov 7, 2015
bonnie No, I don't do the same thing with car model year. C'mon. Quit trying to get some kind of reaction. Uncool.
I've spent a bit of time contributing time / effort in different states, helping Tesla fight the dealer lobby. So according to you, I've been helping them fight themselves? Since a number of states do not recognize Tesla stores as dealers, perhaps we can now send them your way to be set straight.
Of course you're technically right when looking at the broad definition of 'dealer'. There are definitions for the word 'dealer' that fit how you used it. And of course, there are also definitions for 'one who sells drugs', etc. But if you look for definitions of an auto dealer, you will see it's slightly different.
And I'm fine with you feeling right and mocking anyone who disagrees with you as just trying to be cool and hip. It really doesn't matter. State laws don't recognize Tesla as a dealer. The FTC doesn't recognize Tesla as a dealer. NADA doesn't recognize Tesla as a dealer & they kind of define the term to my mind.
You can have the last word on this. Don't care. Go for it.
Nov 7, 2015
Zybane Well first of all, I didn't start this current topic. I got called out for calling my contact a "dealer rep". Notice I didn't say dealership. There is a difference. I guess because I didn't use the made up phrase "Delivery Specialist"? Yet I am the one trying to get a reaction?
Secondly, a Tesla "store" and a car "dealership" as far as the consumer is concerned are identical. Both let you touch and feel their product, drive their product, configure your product, handle the financial transaction of their product, take delivery of their product and service and maintain their product. Whether the entity is a franchise or not means little to the consumer besides possibly more equal service across "stores". As for me having the last word, you sure do post a lot for that to come to fruition. (PS: I'm not trying to get people riled up, it's just my sense of humor). :scared:

dsm363 Ended: $2K Off Instead Of $1K From Current VA & OH Owners, Confirmed
I'm so glad you could explain this to us. Could you explain this to the legislators in Texas? The "galleries" there won't allow people to test drive cars or even tell them how much the car costs. Clearly there is no difference between a dealership, a 'store' and a gallery.
