Dragon I finally got the first pics of my Roadster. I wanted to show them to you, it really is a beauty. I'll keep this thread updated, telling about the tale of a man and his car.

bonnie Spectacular!
May 27, 2011
Eberhard its a real beauty
do they have problems with the registration? I talked to someone from Milan when I met him in the Monaco Store last week.
May 27, 2011
Jaff Very nice...glad to see you're keeping your cool and sense of humour whilst you wait...we know what you're going through...it's worth the wait!
May 27, 2011
smoothoperator wow that is a very pretty color....First time I am seeing a 2.5 with a single din head unit
May 27, 2011
Dragon Yeah, they are facing many issues because of the car being an electric one. I was told my car is the first one they are trying to get through with their Tesla Italy company. The other ones they did register by Tesla Monaco. They blame the "Ministero dei Trasporti" to be really slow.
May 27, 2011
Slackjaw Yeah! I was beginning to worry that your car didn't exist. Ours is apparently on a plane from UK to CA, the longest flight ever it seems.
Thanks for posting. I think the Roadster may be the ideal vehicle for the Italian roads, it is so nimble. But beautiful pictures. Too bad that guy couldn't wipe his boots off after he stepped in that blue paint though... Very careless!
May 27, 2011
Dragon First wanted to take dark grey or very orange, both are very nice too. My test drive then was with a lightning green Roadster and it looked cool. So I thought about I will drive an electric car, a green car with no emissions. Therefore I decided to go green all the way.
It's the first time I'm seeing a 2.5 with single din head unit too.
From the Infotainment system the only things I would have liked are the backup camera (hope I don't miss it too much) and the enhanced sound with subwoofer. Didn't want to pay additional 4200 for it and at the moment I think it was a wise decision, I'm really short on money right now. :frown:
Hope I'm happy with this cheaper arrangement.
May 27, 2011
Dragon Me too, so I insisted getting some pics.
I'm surrounded by mountains and nature, it will be great with the Roadster here!
The past few weeks everytime I've driven somewhere I've imagined beeing there with the Roadster.
Looks like glacier blue paint. Maybe suxxer knows something about this.

May 27, 2011
markwj Evie says hello to her brother. So glad you managed to get him out of Italian quarantine. Congratulations.
May 27, 2011
tetsuos I also have a 2.5 with single DIN head unit. Once you're no longer so short on cash, the first thing you need to do is upgrade those stock speakers. I just installed a set of Focal 100/130KRS. Your door panels are already prepped for tweeters; you just need to cut out the holes in the template. The wider range is already a huge improvement, and now I'm thinking about how to deal with the woofer. If I do install one of those, I may also get the alpine sound processor to help compensate for the wind noise drowning out my music.
May 27, 2011
Mitrovic Such a beautiful car!
Estetically, I like this 1 DIN version, better!
May 28, 2011
Eberhard We should set up a tesla owner meeting in Bolzano or Meran (2000)
May 28, 2011
Dragon How's the sound doing with the standard solution? Hope it's still somewhat acceptable, 'cause I'm going to stick with it for some time.
And tell me about the sound processor when you have it installed, I already heard it does miracles.
May 28, 2011
Dragon It's not out of italian quarantine. They only took it out for a couple of minutes to let it get some fresh air. I'll get the car in approximately 2 weeks, at least I hope so.
About the brother thing... I did not decide yet "what" this car will be. I'm not used to give a name and a gender to cars.
May 28, 2011
Dragon Sure! I'll only have to find some place were you can charge at minimum 32A.
I know the first italian owner lives near Trento, so he could join us too.
I'm planning to do a trip Bolzano - Zrich - Mnchen - Innsbruck - Meran... well, first have to get the car.

zack Excellent. Love that turbine-sounding whine. Now I need to go drive mine.
Jun 7, 2011
Dragon Hey guys!
I'm back today from my Ireland trip. Didn't hear anything new from Tesla Milan. Last week they said I'll get the license plate by middle of the last week. Then they said by the end or beginning of this week. Well, it just seems it will delay even more.
I didn't order any winter tires, maybe I should begin to look for them...
Jun 8, 2011
Dragon Great news. I'll get the car in... TWO WEEKS or later. No joke.
Jun 8, 2011
Slackjaw :scared: So sorry to hear this again Dragon. I was sure you would get your Roadster before us, because ours has been delayed more than two weeks by production/shipping issues.
Now ours is close to shipping and obviously will not have the "paperwork" problem you are having; we may get it in 10 days or so.
How much is the total delay now for you? 2 months past the original delivery date?
Jun 8, 2011
Dragon Yep. I'm flabbergasted by so much incompetence.
This time they said they had issues cause they did not pay enough added value tax to the authorities.
Jun 9, 2011
Nichen Dragon, I am totally sorry about this. I've been reading the forum every single day now hoping to see your final delivery. I guess Italian authorities are anti EV and pro Ferrari and Lamborghini

Jun 9, 2011
markwj If its any consolation, Lightning's sister Evie is in the shop for an aircon repair:-(
Jun 9, 2011
dsm363 Sorry to hear about your delay too. My Roadster has been on vacation in Chicago since late May getting its air conditioning fixed too. Should be back today! It's like getting the Roadster all over again.
Jun 9, 2011
markwj What happened? The 400volt module blew on mine (and seemed to takeout fuse in battery as well).
Jun 9, 2011
Mitrovic Bad news, but on the brigt side: Die Vorfreude ist die schnste Freude!
You will love it even better when you finally get it!
So you think I do not have to wait that Tesla Milano has working HPC's again?
Jun 9, 2011
dsm363 Some sensor that measured the in-cabin temperature stopped working. Because of that, the air conditioning wouldn't turn on. Finally have it back. Looks sweet with the clear coat CF hard top too.
Jun 9, 2011
PopSmith That's a beautiful color choice, Dragon.
Hopefully the car will get into your hands soon so you can have the perma-EV grin the Roadster dishes out to its drivers (and passengers!)
Jun 17, 2011
Dragon People are mocking me. That's like my car, except the hardtop. Damn.

Jun 17, 2011
Jaff Nice vid...great production & execution.
That ramp gave me the "willies :scared:" though...the larger 9 car Plycon truck brought my Roadster...the driver just backed it off the upper level onto the tailgate platform & lowered it to the ground...
Jun 17, 2011
vfx Not sure why we saw packing twice. many cameras can = good editing
How'd they get their plate so fast?
Jun 17, 2011
smorgasbord One of the things they don't remember to tell you when you pick up your car at the Menlo Park factory is that the driveway out is such that you'll literally scrape the bottom of your brand new Roadster before it hits a public road!:crying:
Luckily, I had driven a test drive Roadster there a week earlier to check out upholstery options - and i scraped that car instead. It turns out the only thing that gets scraped are some bolt heads toward the front, so no big deal.
But I knew for my car to drive it off the lot slowly at an angle.
BTW, here are some cars waiting for final processing at Menlo this morning:

Jun 17, 2011
Dragon I've seen a video on Youtube were some guys start a test drive from Menlo Park. They drive slowly but immediately scrape the car.
After seeing this ramp build up I just wonder how they will deliver my car. I'm a bit scared to be honest.
Jun 17, 2011
dwegmull That parking lot exit at the Menlo Park store is nasty! Every time I had my car there for various services, the service person (hi Jake!) reminds me to take that exit at an angle.
In general, that's the trick to go over steep curbs and ramps: one wheel at a time. In extreme cases, one of the front wheels will lift off the ground completely!
I once heard a very loud scraping sound while driving off a small ferry boat at low tide. I stopped to look for damage expecting a destroyed front bumper, but could not find any damage! (for those of you in Northern California, this is short ferry on highway 84 in the Delta area).
Jun 17, 2011
doug I've heard many a car scrape over that parking lot exit. I'm surprised they never did anything to fix it.
Jun 17, 2011
Lloyd I went at it at .1 mph at an angle and scraped too.
Jun 19, 2011
TEG Not only the scrape angle, but a big pothole for a while right there too.
Jun 19, 2011
bonnie I scraped once ... now I drive around the back side of the Menlo Park building and out the other side (where the stoplight is) - and still take that at an angle, slowly - but no scrape there. And yes, Jake is the BEST.
Jun 19, 2011
markwj Do you know the full VIN number, yet? Interested in differences between LHD and RHD non-US builds.
P.S. My VIN is SFZRE8B15B3000569

Dragon Yep, but all trough Tesla Monaco. When they opened the Milan Store the law forced them to register the car with the new "company". Together with inexperience (mine is the very first car they try to register with the new method) and the complications of italian law you have the *sugar* that is going on with my Lightning Green.
Jun 21, 2011
doug That really sucks. Perhaps they haven't paid the proper "taxes". Anyone tried to purchase since you; are you the only person in this situation?

Jun 21, 2011
Dragon That was one of the many inconvenients I heard. Apparently they paid around 1000 less on taxes for my Roadster as well, so the authorities did stop the registration for a while.
They are really on thin ice with me now. If something with the Roadster or the accessories isn't ok at the day of delivery, I will go berserk for sure. I have a bad feeling, but hoping for the best.
I don't know if someone after me did buy a Roadster for Italy. That would be interesting to know.
Jun 23, 2011
Dragon I have good news and bad news.
The good news is I'll get the car on this monday evening.
The bad news is it will still be without license plate and registration booklet.
Jun 23, 2011
Mycroft Well, at least you can rev the engine in the driveway. Oh, wait.
Jun 23, 2011
daniel What does that mean? Will it have a temporary registration that allows you to drive it like we have in the U.S.?
Jun 23, 2011
dpeilow Will they be working on getting it registered or is it "over to you"?
Jun 23, 2011
mpt LOL I caught myself sitting in my un-registered roadster thinking "brum-brum"... I have no idea why!
Jun 23, 2011
Dragon Lol, funny.
It will not have a temporary registration, so I can only use it to drive 3-4 meters back and forth at my home. And try to get it in my steep garage.
The registration is not over to me, they'll keep on trying to get these damn plates. Tough i find it strange... that today has to be the sixth or seventh time they say to me it has been delayed. Maybe they get all done next week, who knows.
Needless to say, though all this crap I'm happy to finally see my car with my own eyes. I'll play with the stereo in the meantime.
Jun 23, 2011
Dragon That's happening to me too, already many times.
I think about my car and my head goes "broom-broom" and shortly after I think to myself "no, it's not going to be like that". Strange.
Maybe 'cause it's harder to simulate the "weeeeeeeeeee" in your head.

Jun 23, 2011
vfx Do you have any other cars that have a loose plate? One that might fall off? It happens all the time. Then perhaps someone mounts it on the wrong car. It might not get noticed for a few days....

Jun 23, 2011
Dragon I think it will be very hard for me to restrain doing something stupid. That's the main cause I didn't want they deliver me the Roadster without plates. But it was back in April...
100m left from my house is a police station on the same road and 100m right from my house is a place were the police will always stop some cars and check them out. I don't think they would oversee a lightning green Roadster.
And I would drive without assicuration too... think about the situation: you wait several months for your car, go out for a spin and hit a wall. It gives me the creeps.
But I'm pretty sure I can't resist. Maybe I'll take it out for a short ride at 04:30 am.
Jun 23, 2011
Slackjaw From my experience of living there for two years, that's how license plates actually get assigned in some parts of Italy
Jun 23, 2011
daniel I would be absolutely fuming mad if I got my Roadster and could not drive it for lack of registration! I hope you get the plates soon.
FYI, "assicuration" is not a word in English. In English it's insurance. I don't mean to pick nits; just thought you might like to know.
Jun 23, 2011
Jaff You can still drive it (sans paperwork) if you have the proper qualifications...like having the local chief of police along for the ride!:wink:

Jun 23, 2011
vfx OK. That's just brilliant.
Jun 23, 2011
markwj I'm really not sure what is worse - not having the roadster or not being able to drive it. I feel for you...

Dragon It's here!

And it fits in da garage!

Jun 27, 2011
Dragon Ok, now for the "First day you got your Roadster"-Facts.
1) Getting the soft top off and back on again: 10 minutes of work! More training needed.
2) Drove 30 times for 8 meters back and fort. No chance of getting elsewhere without the license plates.
3) It sucks to get the plates only friday at the earliest.
4) I don't have any clue how to "install" these plates. Is there a setup.exe? Can somebody give me an advice what to do?
5) The car looks great at every angle and with every light.
6) The car makes many funny noises: The brakes make noise, when I turn the key there is a loud "clack" and then the "pling", the battery cooling is noisy and the fan hell broke lose when I charged the car. I can still hear it when I'm in the room above the garage. At least the engine is silent.
7) The sales manager needed a whole minute to get the trunk open with the key button. LOL! It worked 50% off the times I tried to do it.
8) The car smells strange. Where the hell did they store it? Sure hope it's not the microfiber that smells.
9) I already earned some WTF-looks from people passing by. In particular a neighbor seemed very puzzled not to hear an engine sound.
10) The solar shield sucks when you are 1,90m tall. Already took it off, I think the passenger side will follow.
11) I have these mini tiny sound boxes left and right in the doors. I don't hear any sound out of them. Used 30 minutes to find out how to activate them on the Alpine head unit. Don't know if that is an option at all.
12) The sound is really crappy. I need to get these mini boxes to work.
13) The radio worked fine. Even in the garage. Surprise!
14) The music from the USB stick doesn't work fine. Error message every time I change directory.
15) These charging cables are frickin' heavy! The car seems to weigh less than them.
16) There are 276 km on the odometer! The sales manager said from testing the car. I'll add: And using it as a demo car as well, admit it!
17) I have to go out in 5,5 hours. I'm not tired. I'm thinking about going down to the garage. Just to be sure the car is still there.
18) The honk scared the hell out of my mom. Sorry! She has forbidden to push it again. Forever.
19) No problems getting in and out of the car. Key ayar warning (or something like that) is disturbing.
20) Mine is the 12th italian Tesla Roadster. The second lightning green.
21) The sales manager told me I should always charge in range mode. They always charge in range mode too. WTF!? Won't do it. Checked the logs. They charged the car 3 times in range mode and two times in standard mode.
Jun 27, 2011
mpt That looks like it was worth the wait!
Room for an e-scooter as well in there.
1) You're finished when you can do it from the drivers seat.
4) See dealer; they can install without you breaking anything.
6) That's the brake vacuum pump; it's normal. The wirrrr from what sounds inside like it's coming from the passenger footwell is the AC compressor, it spins at differnet speeds as demand varies. As for the PEM fan at the rear, charge at lower current (12A) if you can, it'll go off.
7) Ask them to fix that, they can using the 'Raphael Garcia' method
10) That's the sun visor; yes, we all slide them off and I'm only 5'10"
16) We can tell you exactly how it's been driven but I can assure you that it won't be any more than you're about to
21) You charge in Standard Mode ok? Any questions?
Jun 27, 2011
Mycroft Very cool!
I don't know about the other issues, but I understand that removing and installing the top is made easier by using your chest to push down on the side to fasten or unfasten the latches.
Jun 27, 2011
dpeilow This really does look like a dragon...

Jun 27, 2011
dsm363 The fact that the sales manager told you to always charge in range mode is strange. You should probably let someone in the US at Tesla know about that. That shows a serious lapse in knowledge from that sales manager.
Glad your long wait is finally done though. Once you get your plates, I'm sure we probably won't hear from you for awhile since you'll be touring Italy.
Jun 27, 2011
Doug_G You can easily get it down to 30 seconds with a little practice.
I had the same problem, plus a wayward courier... very frustrating!
Secret recipe: double-click slowly. Click ... Click.
I hope your Mom is forgiving, because you will occasionally hit it by accident.
They are complete idiots, who were slightly abusing your battery. Charge in Standard mode unless you are going on a long trip. Surely Tesla has better training than that.
Jun 27, 2011
Dragon It was strange and he insisted with it. With other things he was better informed.
You will surely hear from me when the car is in the garage for a recharge.

Jun 28, 2011
Nichen Dragon you just made my day! Hell yes, it's finally there for you!!! Enjoy her now and go easy on the pedalI bet the lack of a green roadster-delivery was close to lack of oxygen for you.
But now you can finally breathe again:biggrin:

Jun 28, 2011
Dragon Thanks Nichen!
I still need the license plates, which should be here at friday if everything goes well.
Can someone quickly tell me how the license plates are beeing fixed there? On the rear it looks like it has to be glued on. :frown:
Jun 28, 2011
Eberhard can you get those tiny license plates for the front?
Jun 28, 2011
Dragon I don't think so, didn't even know something like that exists.
Jun 28, 2011
Eberhard I think they have those in switzerland. my ones are quite huge, same size like the back. There should be some spare holes in the front?
Jun 28, 2011
Dragon Will surely have the huge ones too, same size. At the front there is already a grid to apply the plate, whilst at the rear there is nothing.
Jun 28, 2011
Lloyd The small front plates for Italy were abandoned in 1985. All plates are now the larter standard size with the provential prefix.
Jun 29, 2011
Dragon Ok, now for the "Second day you got your Roadster"-Facts.
1) Getting the soft top off and back on again: 4 minutes of work, including putting it in the bag. Still more training needed.
2) Drove 10 times for 2 meters back and fort in the garage. No chance of getting elsewhere without the license plates.
4) Checked the pieces of plastic for the plates. It seems like the plate on the back needs to be fixed on the car with 4 white adhesive stripes I've found in the trunk.
6) The fans didn't turn on this time when I was charging. With 16A and 220 V the car will gain 1 km of range ca. every 3 minutes, that means approx. 20 km per hour.
7) I'm getting better at opening the trunk. It worked 80% off the times I tried to do it. Still have to perfectionate the doubleklick-technique.
8) The car stopped smelling strange. It smells almost neutral to me, no smell of new car either.
10) Took off the sun visor on the passenger side too. Almost demolished the rear mirror by doing that.
11) I have these mini tiny sound boxes left and right in the doors. I don't hear any sound out of them. A mail to Tesla about this hasn't been answered yet.
12) After some tuning the sound is a bit better but a letdown compared to my previous car which had only a standard system as well.
14) Bought a new USB stick, 4 GB instead of 8 GB. This one works without problems. Maybe the other one will work to after reformatting but no need to try anymore.
18) Didn't find the courage to try the honk again.
22) Found out you can dim the dash and buttons etc. with a lever (knob? don't know the english word for this) at the left. Looks cool!
23) The glove box is thiny. In the old car I had a towel, half liter of water, ice shaver, a pen and a notepad, adhesive roll and some other stuff in it. There's no space for putting something larger in the cabin. Where do you put the vehicle papers?
24) The intern lights are weak. The trunk light is almost non existent, the light in the cabin is pretty small too.
Jun 29, 2011
Eberhard What did you expect from a super sport car? Put your Documents in the glove box plus your gloves (you will need in wintertime) its a glovebox nothing else
Put your waterbottle on the sill or in the back between the seats. Your jacket fits under jour knee.
The trunk is fine, Ferraris nor Lamborghini have bigger size. :frown:
Hope you get your plates soon, you will fall in  quickly
Jun 29, 2011
Dragon I did not expect anything, just commenting my first impressions. Since I hate using gloves and never use them, maybe I can fit something else there. A tiny pen, a tiny notepad, a very very tiny towel...
I'm already in love just by looking at the car.
Jun 29, 2011
Slackjaw Um, how does that work? Which stalk? (I think they're called "stalks"). I mostly drive at night and the bright dashboard can be a bit much.
EDIT: Found it... Reading the manual is always the last resort.
15. Instrument panel illumination control. See Instrument panel lighting, page 6-14.
There's a light in the cabin? Is that only the Euro version? I don't think there's a light in mine.
EDIT: Found that too! Imagine that, a manual with useful information! I won't believe there's a light until I see it with my own eyes.

Jun 29, 2011
mpt Mine never worked properly, it usually opened with a few repeated clicks. A few weeks ago they fixed it. It opens with one-click from the dash or remote each time, every time.

bolosky I had problems getting my trunk to open properly, which turned out to be an easy fix.

Doug_G From 2.0 (2010) user's manual:
Programmable button
You can program the top button on the key fob to perform one of the following functions:
- Alarm sounds the horn and flashes the exterior lights flash for one minute. Press again to cancel the alarm.
- Trunk release opens the trunk
- HomeLink device operates a HomeLink device such as a garage door or gate
By default, Tesla has programmed this key to open the trunk. To re-program this button, use the Touch Screen. Refer to the Touch Screen Users Manual, provided in your owners package.
To activate the programmed function, press the button twice.
Emphasis added.
Stupidly, it only says this in the section on the key FOB, not the section Opening the trunk!!!
Jun 29, 2011
mpt Ah, I see what you mean; yes one-push from the dash, one double-click from the remote. But, reliably, it shouldn't take a few goes.
Jun 29, 2011
Doug_G I find if you click it too quickly, the car doesn't recognize it as a double click. And by "too quick" I mean half a second.
The entire car seems to be a little slow to recognize things. You close the door and you have to wait a second before you can lock it. Open the door and it takes about a second to wake up and turn on the VDS screen and cooling pump. There must be a relatively slow cycle time on the bus.
Jun 29, 2011
Dragon Lol. I guess so.
I have perfect knowledge of the manual. That's because I read it over and over while waiting for the car. I was surprised by the stepless dimmer for the instruments. It goes from "almost can't see it" to "eye burning bright". Nice, it was one of the things that were an issue in my old car.
Do you know there is an altitude meter in the car too? Nice feature too. My garage is 540 m above zero.
Jun 29, 2011
Dragon At day 3 now I'm used to the key fob. I've reached 100% trunk-opening-ratio with double clicks. Yes!
I'm now fast at working with the soft top too. Yes! Altough I was a little too fast, discovered some bad bruises in the carbon fiber. No! Didn't think the carbon is so vulnerable.
Today the service manager was at my home. I was very surprised by that, he came all the way from Milan only to check the tweeters. It took some hours to fix it. Now they work! Yes!
And had another experience of curious guy. As he walked by he stayed many minutes to ask me many questions. The first one was: "How much does it cost?" His estimate was 40.000 . It's then that I said that would be the price of a Lotus, here you have an electric car. Strangely enough the fact that it was electric didn't impress him and he said he probably should consider buying an electric car too. I suggested the Model S. After a while I had to go elsewhere, he didn't want to leave anymore.

Dragon Day 4. Discovered that the service guy had pushed the container of the radio too far inside. Thus the rectangular plate was loose and the radio was a bit inclined. Really strange he didn't notice that when he reassembled the cockpit.
I managed to fix it with two screwdrivers on top and bottom and some pulling. Honestly a masterpiece of work by myself.Happy I did it, it wasn't easy without the option of disassembling the cockpit.
There were some other minor flaws, like a panel not fitting well. Could fix that too. It's a pity, as a service manager you should be a perfectionist and don't miss something like that.
I have a cool new foto of my car too.

Jaff Glad to see you still have your sense of humour Dragon...I got a good chuckle from your status update in your signature!:wink:

bonnie Dragon - Glad that your car is finally in your possession, even though you cannot do much other than play with all the buttons and screens. No need to post when you finally get your plates, we'll know it by your absence. In the meantime, my fingers are crossed that the bureaucrats there get your plates to you.
(Maybe this is just part of a cruel reality show, with people on the sidelines taking bets on how long it will take before you go for a spin with plates, totally lose your mind, or have a public meltdown at the license plate office.)

Dragon I wanted to go out tonight at 5 am, reducing the risk of having an accident or getting caught. I did already set the alarm clock, but then was too tired to wake up. Maybe better.
I've done all you can do with a sitting Roadster. So now I'm just waiting.

vfx I liked the words "perfectionate" and thiny. The derivation is a great way to describe the glove box. (we 1.5s don't even have one)
Jul 2, 2011
DaveD Speaking as a 1.5 owner, I am happy that I don't have the 2.0/2.5 glovebox. The 1.5 tray is much more useful.

vfx Paperwork is stored in the box under the passenger seat. Though it needs to be packed tight or it will fly out on hard braking.

Mycroft If it's difficult not being able to drive your car because it's not licensed, think about how difficult it would be if it were impounded by the police for being on the road without tags. Yep, better not to tempt fate.
Jul 2, 2011
NigelM Tried as hard as I could, but that hardcover book just didn't want to go into the box under the passenger seat. Figured I could jam it in there (or use a hammer) but it would probably never come out again.

Jul 2, 2011
tennis_trs I put the hardcover version in the trunk, and printed the PDF and threw it behind the passenger seat, and have it on my iPhone, in case I want to look at it and can't get the trunk open.
Jul 2, 2011
vfx What hardcover book?
Jul 2, 2011
tennis_trs My owners manual is held in what I believe is a metal book cover.
Jul 2, 2011
vfx OK.
So by hardcover you mean the aluminum owners manual that fits in the slot under the passenger seat (except for Nigel's). That stays at home... though I like the idea of printing out a version for behind the driver's seat (I can't retrieve anything from behind the immovable passenger seat.
Many keep a copy on a thumb drive in the car or on the keychain. Would be nice if you could pull it up on the radio screen (Model S hint)
Jul 2, 2011
dwegmull An Amazon Kindle fits exactly inside the metal manual "jacket". I have the complete documentation loaded as PDF on the Kindle.
Jul 2, 2011
NigelM I think mine needs a couple of mm's trimmed off the edge. But I like dweg's idea! Seems appropriate to have a manual in e-format.

Dragon Hi guys...
Some problem again.
I could not resist and went for a drive at 05:00 am, reducing the risk of getting caught. In fact, I did not get caught and did not crash. So far, so good.
The drive was fun for about 5 minutes when I decided to do the "pedal to the metal". The car accelerated hard (0.60g) and a second later an error message popped up:
Coolant system problem - service required
#1447
That's just great. It's a neverending headache with this car. :crying:
They apparently did 276 km of testing and the error pops up on my very first ride...
Tried already to charge the car, that did not clear anything. The error now pops up everytime the coolant pump kicks in. The pump is still working (the liquid is clearly flowing), the noises I hear are the same as ever.
It was a cold morning (about 5-7 Celsius). Just after the error popped up the very first time I checked the temps. Motor and battery was on the lowest possible, PEM was on the third blue square.
The italian service manager now is in the holidays for 2 weeks too. Well, I'll call Tesla Milan tomorrow and see what they can do.

vfx Another bummer.
Maybe we should rename this thread "trials" not "legend".
Jul 3, 2011
dsm363 Wow. Sorry to hear that. I really hope you get this all worked out soon and can just enjoy your car. You deserve it with how patient you've been.

daniel 1) So THAT'S what the bag is for! I wondered.
8) I guess I'm lucky. I HATE new-car smell. Mine was an orphan car and probably sat in the store for a year.
23) Yeah, the glove box is a joke! I have a little travel packet of kleenex and my insurance card, and it's just about full.
I'm sorry to hear of your problems. I hope they fix everything and get your plates to you soon.
I managed to get mine out without too much of a struggle, after the customer advocate told me where it was (I asked why I didn't get an owner's manual, and she told me where it's hidden.)
But when I tried to replace it, I could not get it back in. It's all in the house now. I like the idea of putting the PDF on my iPod.
Jul 3, 2011
vfx Holds a car cover quite well too.
Jul 3, 2011
bonnie I put the cables in there when I'm on the road, along with any other 'car stuff' I want handy. I fit a LOT more in my thiny glove box ... my wallet, FastPass receiver, a pen, my work badge w/lanyard, and a spare iPhone cable. Granted, it's an exact science. But it fits. My registration and insurance are with the manuals under the passenger seat. A sun reflector for the windshield fits (barely) behind the passenger seat, and a spare bottle of water fits perfectly between my seat and the door, against the back of the cabin. The space under the driver's seat is still untouched, but I'm thinking about a small bag with a velcro back that would slide under there...

daniel Impressive!
