Model X May Deliveries part 5

I hope you get yours soon! Even with all the little issues (and the halo/glare), the car is amazing. The interior feels much more refined that my first gen X. I honestly believe you will love it.

Although, I've read all your previous post about the communication issues you have experienced, and they are completely unacceptable. Jared, my DS in Dallas, emailed me for the first time the day I confirmed my order (which was January). Way before I expected. My gmail thread with him is currently at over 60 emails back and forth over the last five months. So, it's not a Tesla problem. Just a DS problem.

I don't believe there is an official fix yet. Although, if my polarized sunglasses eliminated the issue temporarily for me, I would hope they could use that information to develop a fix.

I think the cars been delivered in May so far are built after the March "rush"; it shouldn't have much built related issues. And, I am shocked to find out there still are. It worries me.

My VIN is 42XX. I was told a week or so ago that it was in production and that they expected it in Denver in 1-2 weeks. But then yesterday my new DS (former DS quit) called saying that it was in Denver and that it's almost ready for delivery. I'm scheduled to pick up on Monday. I could have gotten it this Friday or Saturday, but I have a big project to finish up this week/weekend and know that I won't be able to get any work done after picking up the Model X.

I don't know how people are taking delivery 2 days after the SC received the car. Ours arrived at the SC 9 days ago, and they are hoping for delivery in the middle of next week. They are working on a few things, and waiting for some parts. Maybe my SC is being extra thorough....

I think what Tesla means the active spoiler is it adjusts position based on speed, does not mean it actually moves.

P90D's spoiler adjusts position based on different speed, that what Tesla calls it Active. Other models, such as 90D, 75D will have a spoiler that has 3 positions only, which they call non-active.

Delivery appointment in Fremont confirmed for 9am tomorrow!

    Vin21XX(Was ready in late April).
  • May 12, 2016
    CmdrThor
You have evidence of a P90D spoiler having more than three positions? I have only heard reports of fully up at low speeds, slightly lowered above ~45 mph, and closed when the vehicle is off.

Estimated Delivery Date on purchase agreement was the 18th of May, so the car arrived "early". My purchase agreement has disappeared from my Tesla page, which is weird. But delivery is still on for tomorrow. Just a bit over 24 hours to go. I confirmed my order on January 19, received my VIN about Feb 10th. A few false "about to go into production" notices and finally got the call about 2 weeks ago that it was in paint. Then notified last Friday that it was being wrapped and prepped to leave the factory. Got purchase agreement that evening. DS called 4 days later, Tuesday to let me know it arrived. Delivery scheduled for tomorrow... I'll let you know if I get a sunshade. :p
  • May 12, 2016
    ohmman
This is misleading. P90D's spoiler has three positions. All spoilers are the same. You read more into the word "active" than is actually there.
  • May 12, 2016
    goneskiian
Sorry, but you're incorrect. The three position spoiler is active according to Tesla. Until we have actual evidence to the contrary, or Tesla changes it's description. There was a specification sheet released back about the time of the reveal that talked about the three positions as being all there is.

I'm not saying that couldn't change in the future though. Obviously we've seen this before with them and we know most of the systems are software upgradeable. ;)

Edit: And ince again I'm too slow and got pipped by @ohmman's quicker thinking and typing. Yes, I'm getting used to it.:p;)
  • May 12, 2016
    vandacca
Obviously there isn't anything special about 45mph that makes the spoiler 2nd position magically improve efficiency. It's just Tesla picked this speed as an average and chose a better angle. This is very easy for Tesla to calculate and program into the system.

There is no reason why Tesla couldn't have 2 settings or an infinite number of settings (for best efficiency). If they could collect enough data and create a curve for the spoiler to follow, it could be a more gradual and more efficient. I hope when they have more time, they'll sit down and collect the data & perform those calculations.
  • May 12, 2016
    ohmman
I absolutely agree. I just wanted to point out that it's currently not the case. Looking forward to getting 50 miles of extra range from that software update.
  • May 12, 2016
    goneskiian
Yup. My thoughts as well. It's probably a bit down the list of software to-do's though.

Here my pick up thoughts and general observations.

    The X and pickup:

The pickup process was very smooth. We arrived a little early for our appt so we got a chance to look at the car and do the initial payment stuff first saving our 45 mins or more after the tour to look over the car and hear about the features. There were 4 Xs being delivered and 2 Ss (both with old fascia)

Amazing car, never owned a Tesla before but drove the S a few times. Loving the drive so far, wind and road noise is minimal. My thoughtsturn up the music if it is too much for you :) The fit and finish is the car is definitely not at the level of some European auto makers but it is getting there. Is mine one of the flawless models produced in Aprilnot sure. I have a few minor cosmetic issues which were noted on the due bill, maybe Im just a perfectionist. They include the chrome trim sticking out a bit in the driver side rear and tailgate is misaligned a bit on the drivers side. As others have mentioned recently, the sunshade is not included and not even mentioned on the due bill(it is just a given now). The blind phone holster is not included anymore which is kids of disappointing. I ordered the Accessory hitch and received the 2 Bosal receiver along with wiring harness. Some folks have the Bio weapon defense mode without PUP - mine does not. Finally, the spoiler is active, it moves down at approximately ~45 mph.

    Factory tour:

Amazing amount of automation, a must see if you are in the area. My recommendation is that if you choose to do the tour, pick a time slot earlier in the day. The stamping area was already shutdown for the day and most of the robots were not working as it was the end of the day already. The end of the line was in progress and saw many aspects of the X and S being finished. All 90Ds and some P90s.

Surprisingly, there were still some Ss in final assembly which had the old fascia but the majority of the ones before final had the new fascia. Interesting note: All the Ss with the new fascia had the front license plate holder installed using the new glued on mechanism. When asked about X, it will eventually get there also just there right now. Im glad mine does not have it. Here is Cali, at least I have 6 six months before anyone can stop me for not having one.

The mix of S and X in assembly has changed from before. Last time I went to the factory for the exclusive preview, there 3-4 Ss and followed by an X. It was actually reverse right now, so a lot of Xs were being assembled. When we were on our way to the pickup, three trucks were departing with new cars, majority of them loaded with Xs. Production is ramping up again which is great for all you folks waiting out there. There were many many Xs that were finished already. Just wait a little longer folks, it is worth it.

Finally, my son got an exclusive viewing of the new Tesla S radio flyer car for kids. He loved it and of course wants one, in Red :D

I am vin 34xx in Houston. Got word that my car has arrived at the service center. Still don't know when I can get it. Was told typically 72 hrs before service releases it for delivery but my car was probably produced in towards the last week of April/early May so hopefully not as many issues. My tesla page still says in production queue for the last two weeks.

Just thought I would check back in after a few days of having my X. Unfortunately though we took delivery of our X on May 4th and she was picked up Tuesday and is comfortably at the Dania Beach SC with no estimate ETA. Issues:

    1) the screen in front of driver (even on day of delivery) kept saying "key fob not detected car will not start". We were told at delivery it would go away after a few days but it never did. Though it said that it would start and go away normally but on day six it refused to start.

    2) The auto-presenting door on day 5 started making a clicking sound, it would click, click click but not open very much only about two inches and remaining clicking until it was shut.

    3) I have not had any issues with sun glare or anything in this Florida sun....the tint on the front windshield is sufficient, I have not even had to use the visor. (not sure if @K-MTG still needs answers on the sun shileding)

    4) our spoiler stopped working on day 2....really day 1 cause we took delivery at night and by the next day the spoiler was no longer moving as it should.

there is more....items from our due bill, FWD. I'm sure they will get to it all, but I'm not sure when I'll be seeing my X. For the few days I had it....GREAT vehicle...definitely a head turner...then there were all those worrisome people getting a bit too close while trying to take video of it. LOVE the X though! Just hope I'll be back to driving it soon.

Yesterday was our updated target delivery date, but the car didn't get out of the body shop to fix the pain scratch until this morning. It's in final detail now, but they won't be able to get it down to us in Nixa (3 hours or so away from KC) before this evening and we already have plans. So looks like tomorrow either early morning or mid-afternoon. Seems like never. My wife is about to lose her mind!

Finally! Everything looks great except the glass on the right FWD has defects in the tinting. They will replace at a later visit. They took 2 weeks from when they got it to get it ready for us. Everything seems perfect. I think people that get their car 72 hours or less after the SC gets the car, may have more imperfections. I feel like our guys really go over the car with a fine tooth comb. Apparently they replaced the trim at the floor of the FWD, and the trim around the second row bases, etc.. I have driven it less than 50 miles so far. General impression is that it is quieter than my S. VERY little wind noise. If you have wind noise, something needs to be fixed. The car does not drive as sporty as the S. Definitely feels taller/heavier. That being said, for an SUV, the handling is amazing. But I think I'll leave the X for my wife, and I will be sticking with the S. The carrying capacity of the S is definitely better. No way I'm fitting my road bike inside the X if it is raining and I don't want it on the bike rack outside.

If this is the case, yours is the first confirmed non-active spoiler on this forum. Note that there is a spoiler setting in the Settings pane, so you might want to make sure that's not set to keep it fixed.

VIN 30xx 90D, Midnight Silver, Tan, PUP, Tow, Standard Rims has gone into production. My (awesome) DS has said to expect delivery the week of 5/23. Seems like a pretty quick turnaround so maybe they have the production line streamlined now. My delivery time is probably also shorter because of proximity to Fremont.

image.jpeg Successful delivery of my X (VIN #110x) occurred today! Delivery went smoothly and we took our time going over everything several times. Fit and finish on the car is great. Everything lines up as it should. Paint looks great all over. All doors, windows, etc.. operating as it all should. Reading all the stories here on the forums I was fully expecting to have at least one thing to list as a problem on delivery. And there is nothing. I guess I'll wait around for my sun shade like everyone else and hope that I don't have any issues pop up in the immediate future.

This car is incredible, but most of you already know that. I've sat in an X, seen a few in the wild, but when you actually get to drive your own away from the SC it's just one of those "wow!" moments. This is my first Tesla so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.

Denver SC had several X's... There were some people going over a multi-coat red one, I think it was being delivered, but I was too happy about my own to do do more than just notice their presence. Seems like white (a couple glossy, a couple pearl) along with midnight silver made up nearly all the X's on site. I'm really liking my pearl white in person and the white seats are stunning. Super comfortable too. And seeing the midnight silver with white seats combo in person, I would be equally happy had I chose that -- awesome combo.

Seems the third row seats have changed their operation a bit since the recall. We have the new seats. Our manufacture date is 5/16 on the car, BTW. MVPA date was the 18th, but the car arrived early, on Monday, and didn't show any need for fixes in the final inspection, so we could have picked up a couple days ago, but couldn't make it Wednesday and yesterday the SC was booked up solid with deliveries.

Biggest issue I have now is that my wife and I will probably be fighting over who gets to drive it.

@ohmman - I only had the car for 10 minutes before dropping it off for tinting. I'm hoping I am incorrect, will post pics and confirm once I get the car back next week.

@K-MTG No sunshade, didn't have the car long enough to pass judgement on the front windshield(it was early in and overcast in Fremont). I'm getting the front windshield tinted with Photosync just to be safe. Pro-Forma MVPA listed 4/16/2016, this was likely bad data since I was not available to pick up on during that week.

Intial random notes, will add more once the euphoria dies down. :)

Picked up our beautiful blue Moxie yesterday at the Seattle service center. Absolutely satisfied! Thanks to everyone that contributed to the Model X Checklist, it came in very handy during the delivery. Zero due bill items (sunshade doesn't count, it's not a due bill item, they will give to everyone once it's available). Didn't drive it very far, but we have no issues with it at all!! Super excited to drive it some more, but will take it easy this weekend as it goes in for partial wrap on Monday... but after that some nice road trips :)

Congrats! Yeah I probably saw your X then. I didn't go up and look in each one so couldn't say. The midnight silver one with white seats also had carbon fiber trim and it all fit together perfectly. I did matte obeche wood in ours and it looks great. I don't think there's a bad color or trim combo with the X.

They do not install the front plate holder by default. He asked if I wanted it on there -- and I'm going to need it as I park a lot of places with over-active meter cops. :(

I wish I would have waited though. Like most front plate holders it requires tapping two small holes to attach it, perhaps I could have found a better solution. The plate holder on the new model S looks identical, but it attaches underneath into dedicated screw holes and doesn't damage the front of the car. Hopefully the X will be updated with the same bits in the near future, but doesn't help us. Anyway, it is what it is... I don't mind so much as it will have the front plate on there as long as I own the car. This can be the next Guy's problem.

My first issue/ complaint about the car is the glossy seat backs. Already have a small scuff in one and I think I did it myself last night. I'm going to get them wrapped with Xpel or something similar. Tesla chose the wrong material for those seat backs. On the bright side, with the plastic that soft, a little polishing compound and a buffer pad and they'll look as good as new.

People notice the car. Surprised at how many try to honk or get my attention. Thankfully not on the highway so much. Almost as bad as when I'm driving one our older collectors cars. On the way home with it, one guy got so excited trying to point the car out to his passenger that he almost drove into me! But it was a residential area and 25MPH speed limit. I didn't think so at the time, but reflecting back on it, that was kinda funny. The first person to acknowledge the car was a motorcycle rider on Colorado Blvd, about to get on I-25. I couldn't see his face through his helmet, but he pointed at me and gave the over-exaggerated head nod.

My kids have gone crazy over the X... Which reminds me that I need to order those Lloyds floor matts or hope WeatherTech gets their act together soon.

Thanks for the update @Monkey ! Yeah, hopefully Tesla updates the Model X so that the front license plate holder on newer ones attaches the same way as the new Model S. I almost never park somewhere with a meter maid so I think I'm going to hold off on attaching the front license plate.

I'm hopeful that my 90D is part of the last batch of 90D's that got the active spoiler. Recent reports are saying that the newest 90D's have a fixed spoiler. I guess I'll find out on Monday! I'll be happy either way. I've already told myself that it's just one less thing that could break over time since I'm buying it instead of leasing.

VIN 401X delivered in Seattle on Thursday. Slight delay due to a scuffed 2nd row seat back that was quickly replaced. Minor gap/alignment issue with the hood, loose black plastic trim at bottom of drivers door, and loose black plastic rocker molding below right rear FWD. Overall fantastic car, and very pleased. Minor issues will get addressed in a couple weeks.

#3467 90D arrived in Marietta, GA Friday. We went in yesterday to do a final appraisal on our S when they told us they had a surprise to show us. While I waited in the service area, my wife and daughter went to sales area and just happen to run into our DS. Who took them to see "Pineapple" without me knowing! The service manager (the best) took me to see our X and we met my wife and daughter along the way. Once I got into the drives seat and started paying with the screen, I saw where somebody had already named our X. For the rest of the day, all I heard was "We got to see Pineapple before you!"

We are hoping to pick it up on Wednesday.

The rear spoiler did retract closed when locked as you can see in the pics.

Figured Ashwood is stunning! I also did not realize that the top of the center console would have the Figured Ashwood as well. I know that earlier models are just black trim.

Its on the bottom of the drivers door B pillar. The manufacture date is very hard to read (ie tiny).

Top left corner of that sticker has the date - has the VIN and all the production info. Mine says 5/16 for May of 2016...

Hey dude, today, I felt the heat pushing in. I was going to after market tint, but with double vision, I have to wait. I believe the sunshade is needed. Tesla knew this. And, that is the reason it was included originally.
  • May 15, 2016
    K-MTG
I wanted to hear that :)

Did you tell the SC about the double vision?
  • May 15, 2016
    WilliamZ
It is Sunday. Do you think they care? Also I just figure out a temporary solution for the sunshade. It is ugly but it is also useful.
  • May 15, 2016
    K-MTG
    Do they care?
HELL NO!! If they did care, the problem would have been resolved already.

If you become in desperate need for a sunshade and can't wait until Tesla releases their own, you can give this a try: Just found this from Heatshield

If you do get it, let me know how it goes. I will probably purchase it for my MX once it arrives. They have a sunshade for all glass on the car (including the skylights on the FWD). So I can drive with all glass covered and rely on autopilot.

I wonder if the 26xx series are SIG's destined for Canada.
Some CAD sig owners have reported getting VINs in the 2601 to 2656 range.

On May 14th about 5pm we finally took delivery of our Model X 90D! Photos here:
    Tesla Model X

All seems well, but hoping the DS comes to shows us the ins and outs as we're trying to figure out auto-park and summons and such on our own. Also, not sure I have the falcon wings totally figured out and live in fear of slamming them against the garage door.

Was at Scottsdale AZ service center over the weekend and saw 2 Xs and several Ss including new design.

    VIN on Xs were:
    47xx 90D
    68xx P90D (say what???)

1st one got me hopeful (my VIN is 48xx)
2nd one confirmed they are manufacturing by price trying to boost Q2 revenue.

    Feel badly for 75Ders.

Since it seems it needs repeating, the reservation was for a place in line to place an ORDER, not to take delivery. :p;)

I took delivery of my X today. So far so good. Not surprisingly - the car is fantastic. I honestly didn't find any concerns after looking at the car very closely - so no due bill items as a result of the walk through. I looked very closely at the overall door alignment as that was one of my biggest concerns. It looks to me as though it it is a hair off - but really close to perfect. The build date was 4/16 and the VIN is 47XX - ordered 1/4/2016.

It is a 90D non pup. I do have a few notes which may be of interest to others and may answer some questions -

    1) Unless it was an optical illusion - the spoiler is definitely active. I haven't been able to pin down exactly when it moves - but on the highway it was down a bit and at slower speeds it seemed to up a bit. It closes when the car locks.

    2) My regular size golf bag fits comfortably in the Frunk as long - as I take my drivers out of the bag. I thought it would - but now it is nice to see it nestled there in its new home.

    3) Trying the garage out for size was a nerve racking experience. I did take a few preventative measures which paid off. My rails are low at 85" and the door itself is a bit lower when open. I also have a 1 foot high knee wall that looked like it might need protection. Lastly - I needed to adjust the opening height of the rear lift gate as it clearly would have opened much too high at its default setting. So with about $20 of investment - a "Prevent a Dent Pad" for the wall and a some foam pipe insulation for the door and rail I was prepared to give it a go. It turned out to be the best $20 I ever spent. What I learned is that it takes a bit of force to stop the rear lift gate on the way up - so be prepared. The side door - generally doesn't hit the knee wall - but sometimes it does - perhaps based on where I parked. With the garage door open - the falcon wing doors do a great job - they stop before they hit anything - although they can't open all that high. When the garage door is closed however - the rail isn't sensed. The foam makes for a soft hit - but I think I will be careful when the door is closed. Overall this is very workable.

    4) If I had self presenting doors - I think I would turn it off. The garage is just too tight to have that be workable .

    5) I am still worried about the falcon wing doors exiting the garage. Based on the experience of the individual who had the key fob open the doors at exactly the wrong moment - I decided I wouldn't move the car if anything was beeping. That means seat belt on at a minimum. Well it turns out that when I leave my garage - there is a ton of beeping from the sensors as it is a tight fit. I think it is likely that I will learn to ignore that beeping. So I am hoping there is some better solution.

    6) I have never owned a fast car - but boy is the 90D fast. I'm sure the P is unbelievable - but the 90D has all the acceleration I need.

    7) All of the controls and setup are very intuitive. I figured I would have an hour or so of setup, but it was all done in a few minutes - Phone home link etc.

    8) I have followed the dialog on front license plates on this site, but the DS told me that the State of Massachusetts was very clear with Tesla regarding front plates - not an option to not put it on.

    9) The windshield is supposedly EZPass friendly.

    10) I haven't driven at night - so haven't yet checked the windshield but will do so tonight.

    11) There were quite a few X's at the Dedham service center to be delivered.

It has been a very long wait - but definitely worth it. I have appreciated all of the commentary on the TMC site - so wanted to contribute my first impression.

Congrats! Can you post some more pics of your garage setup and provide a list of items you used to Tesla-proof your garage? That would be greatly appreciated!

Did you get a sunshade? How is the tint on the panoramic windshield? Is it sufficient?

The time has come my friends!
The Silver Bullet is coming home tomorrow at noon!
My DS called me today to confirm that our 90D (vin 49xx) will be ready for pickup tomorrow.
Still in shock that it progressed as quickly as it has in recent days considering the bevy of recent hiccups with production speeds.
From what I was told, my car finished proouction on May 5th and made it on a truck shortly thereafter. It arrived in Atlanta on Monday and is ready for pickup on Wednesday!
    Sleep will be nonexistent tonight.
    More to come tomorrow.

I will work on pictures. I did also ask about the sunshade - but the DS didn't know what I was talking about. I think they have delivered lots of S's but very few X's in MA - so I informed him that I was eagerly awaiting the sunshade :). The tint is great. It was a sunny day and I didn't really notice any heat issues. I remember sun roofs in older cars generating quite a bit of heat - but I had the sense that this roof is truly different in a good way.

@trmmcd Congrats. You will enjoy. Don't stress the sun shade too much. There is most likely a "Due Bill" in your glove box, but you won't need it. I have been driving mine for 3 weeks and completing a 2000 mile trip -- in the hottest days, I never realize the windshield is there. No heat... no glare and not heat.

Don't know about the ez pass yet. Will get my EV Tags this week.

Well this is a little frustrating. My 90D was supposedly finished on May 2, but my DS (Zach at the Decatur Georgia center) says that my car won't arrive in Georgia for another week or two. Apparently it's being shipped by rail. I guess your car took the quick route to Georgia. :)

Pjjava34, who is your DS and what center are you taking delivery at? Congratulations btw.
  • May 17, 2016
    Pjjava34
I see now...that area is left blank. I really think there is no consistent way Tesla goes about how the delivery process is played out. Everyone is getting different information, some are getting details, tracking and so on while some are getting nothing. I really don't think one can look at another persons order confirmation, vin assignment and MVPA dates/timelines and draw any conclusions about what it means for their personal vehicle. That's just my opinion and observations from reading these forums and trying to calculate when I should have expected to receive mine. What I can recommend is that if your DS is not very proactive in keeping you in the loop (as mine was) you need to take the initiative, make calls and inquire to get the information you seek.
  • May 17, 2016
    Pjjava34
Thanks! I know how frustrating it could be. My DS Zac told me that Tesla recently agreed on rail as the preferred east coast shipping method and a few cars (based on configuration and batching I assume) made it on one of the final truck deliveries to the east. I just got extremely lucky in that sense. Where you will save time is from arrival in Decatur to arrival in your hands. They are finally able to move these "lowe" problem X's much quicker as they need fewer things to be adjusted before delivery.

In California, my Bay Area FasTrak works through the windshield fine.

Interestingly enough, I've had this same experience until today. We broke 90 degrees and my windshield was pretty hot in the upper dark section. I could feel the heat radiating off of it, and when I touched it, I found it to be quite hot. I worked around it by aiming my air vents up at my forehead (instead of at my mid-section) but they don't really go high enough to totally counteract the heat.

I also found that while the car was effective at getting and staying cool, I encountered the negative side effect of that power. For the first time outside of Supercharging, I got to hear the air conditioner from at least 100 yards away in the parking lot. A little embarrassing, I have to say. It's LOUD. Yet another head-turner for the Model X, I guess?

Picked up 034xx last night! Couldn't find any issues. it got to the service center on Thursday and picked up on Tuesday. Lot of new cars at the north Houston service center. Looks great, I got the standard 20" rims, but the 22 black look better IMO. I will likely get them powder coated. I still haven't driven a model x yet, it's for my wife and she took it home. The seven seats are crowded and reduces rear visibility. If the head rest on the middle seat was retractable or absent, that would be helpful. I have 3 small kids so need all the seats we can get. Also, white interior and the kids were all over the seats during the hour or so orientation including there shoes, but no issues.
