Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing part 17

  • Sep 29, 2015

    The VIN was F00011
  • Sep 29, 2015
    Cyclone
Aha! :) That low VIN, a 2012 car, and only 8k+ miles. Wow!
  • Sep 29, 2015
    HankLloydRight
At least one person was able to talk and pay Tesla into converting a P85 into a P85+ (the upgraded suspension) , but I forget the cost. Even if it were $15k now, that's $85k for a founders edition P85+ in sig red. It's very tempting!!!
  • Sep 29, 2015
    HankLloydRight
Also the "F" is a dead giveaway. ;)
  • Sep 29, 2015
    Cyclone
I hadn't realized that was the VIN in the link title. I agree, once I realized I was looking at the VIN. :)
  • Sep 29, 2015
    Cowby
Ugh...isn't that a lot for a beefier suspension? and may I ask who (or link to thread) that did such an upgrade?.....hmmm...
  • Sep 29, 2015
    HankLloydRight
It is a lot now. If Tesla is willing to do it again, I'd guess it would cost a bit less. I'm just guessing at the original cost, I don't really remember. I also don't remember who did it -- it was before my time at TMC, but it was right after they announced the P85+. And if I'm not mistaken, this car did end up as a CPO car listed as a P85, but when the buyer got it, it was this unicorn sig-red P85+.
  • Sep 29, 2015
    Fiver
The VIN was F00011. F designating founders, it was the 11th official car made.
  • Sep 29, 2015
    DougH
The + suspension is completely worth it. I went from a P85 to a P85D with +, then back to a P85 and it as like driving a 90's town car.
  • Sep 29, 2015
    Cyclone
Yup. In the TM link, I didn't realize that was the VIN. When looking at Hank's photos, I didn't see the VIN. I didn't realize that the VIN was part of the URL. As soon as I "saw" that this was the VIN, I also knew the F designated Founders. Thanks!
  • Sep 30, 2015
    Cowby
Crickey, you weren't kidding...they do want a lot for it, and now that i've got kids, i'm too cheap to front that now..lol.

hmm, y'all would never guess who the previous owner was....

Is it just my imagination or are the number of CPO's available dropping fast? My best guess is that there were many people waiting until last night's launch to decide, new S, wait for an X or go CPO. The fact that 20+ CPOs dropped off the consolidator last night would indicate to me that a lot of people (relatively speaking) hit the button last night and bought their CPO. If I was at that point last night, I would have done the same. Nice ride but not worth the wait, extra money and frankly it just didn't move me emotionally like the S does. Still, having choices is good. Hopefully those that were inspired by the X are gearing up to trade in their S and we will see the CPO prices continue to drop at an accelerated rate.
  • Sep 30, 2015
    HankLloydRight
Nine cars all came off between 12:10am and 12:20am this morning, so I'm guessing it was an automated/bulk change by TM.

And four more came off sometime today.

Do you know how much the last 85D's sold for?
  • Oct 1, 2015

I haven't seen an 85D on the site yet.
  • Oct 1, 2015
    No2DinosaurFuel
There have been a few. Not cheap. If i remember correctly it was around mid to high 80K for one.
  • Oct 1, 2015
    DougH
There was one a few weeks back, I thought it was around $82K....there is a history of sales on Hanks' site that I cannot access.
  • Oct 1, 2015
    HankLloydRight
There have been two 85Ds and one 70D previously available.
  • Oct 1, 2015

Do you know what they sold for?
  • Oct 1, 2015

    Buckeye2320
I don't understand how some of these prices are still high. When I look at the ev-cpo. I see that a car with the options I want is listed at $70K, but I see in the sold sections, cars with the same miles, year, and options have sold for $55 - $60 K. How do they determine these prices. The mileage is 200 miles different (CPO Listed vs. CPO sold) and the options are 100% the same.
  • Oct 1, 2015
    DougH
How are you seeing sold cars?, I have registered but do not see them. Also, I have given up on the CPO site and now search Autotrader, that's where the best deals have been.

History is part of the paid premium subscription to Hank's site. He is providing a wealth of information free-of-charge to us, but supporting and running the site does cost him. The very small cost for the premium subscription unlocks history (and alerting) and goes a long way towards all Hank is providing us. The small cost for the premium subscription is well worth it.

Yes could not agree more...EV CPO is a really useful website
  • Oct 1, 2015
    DCAC
I don't understand either. I am hoping it is end-of-quarter stuff. Otherwise we can call it appreciation.
  • Oct 1, 2015
    HankLloydRight
There are two different (and independent) subscriptions on http://ev-cpo.com -- "Premium" that gives you 10 minute updates and the ability to create alerts for specific configurations. And "History" that provides access to all 750+ CPO cars that were sold or otherwise removed from the Tesla CPO site. Premium starts at $6/month (or less for more months), and History starts at just $4/month (or less for more months). You do not need a sub for one to get the other.
  • Oct 1, 2015
    jlk
It might have to do with the age of the car (in months). Aside from options/miles, I think that they take off a certain percentage or dollar amount based on the production date. The best clue for this is VIN number.
  • Oct 1, 2015
    world101
Yeah. I have noticed VINs in the P20000 and up include power folding side mirrors and are production builds from mid-late 2013. Those seem to be in a higher price premium bracket than lower VIN cars with virtually the same options and miles. Also it appears color is a factor as well. Best pricing has been on green, brown, and white.
  • Oct 1, 2015

Not sure if this has been noticed or mentioned
Are some of these car increasing in price?

About a month ago, Tesla changed their data format slightly, causing several Inventory cars to be listed at the Price less tax incentives price on EV-CPO instead of the "cash price". I fixed that issue a few days later, but in this case, I think EV-CPO is showing those errant price (2015-09-01: $74,770). But I can't explain the even earlier price of $71,600.
  • Oct 2, 2015
    HankLloydRight
I've added a few new features to EV-CPO.com.

First, I'm now accepting listings of non-CPO cars for any Model S seller that wants to include their listing on the site. Anyone with a "Premium+History" subscription can list a car for sale with all the same sort/filtering options as the CPO cars have, including a link to their selling site (Cars.com, Autotrader, Ebay, etc). These listings appear in a separate tab as "Used Car Listings (Private Sellers/3rd party/Non-Tesla Motors) "

Second, I've added a very quick survey page for anyone that has used EV-CPO to find and buy a CPO or Inventory car. If you have used EV-CPO to help you find and/or buy a car, PLEASE fill out the quick survey here: EV CPO Purchaser Survey All data is confidential and won't be shared or distributed to anyone. It's just to give me an idea of how many people have used the site to help their search for the perfect Model S.

I've also added a small header to explain what the site does and how it works to help new-comers understand what it's all about.

As always, I'm open to feedback and suggestions!

    Thanks.
  • Oct 2, 2015
    dalamchops
lol won't let me take 2 surveys, used it to buy 2 cars.
  • Oct 2, 2015

Ha ha, I hadn't considered that. Can you add that to the "notes" area?

edit:Actually, if you log out of your account, you can fill out a second survey. Thanks!

Great new feature. You'll be the one-stop shop for finding a used or inventory Tesla, no matter where it's originally listed.

    Thanks.

Hi! I'm looking at the ev-cpo.com data and I'm wondering if this is considered a good deal:

S60 2014 pano TP black 17K miles for $55k plus license and taxes.

I see lots of Teslas on CPO that have gone for less than that. And I skipped out on a recent deal for a brown S60 myself on 9/29.

My other option is a brand new 2016 Volt (with Apple CarPlay!) for $27.5K all inclusive. The Volt looks good, is super cheap, but is smallish and I don't really want the gas engine since I expect 53 miles EV range to be sufficient for 99% of my use.

    Opinions? Thanks!
  • Oct 3, 2015
    MsElectric
Don't get the Volt! You'll regret it every time you see a Tesla.

If you do not see the pricing you want call Tesla directly. Some forum members have bought S60s for the late 40s and early 50s by contacting Tesla directly as they have access to CPO cars that are not listed in the public inventory.
  • Oct 4, 2015
    Drucifer
I loved my Volt. It is a terrific, well-engineered and well sorted vehicle that does what it does really well. Also, in 3 years, maintenance was about $120.00 all in. I love my Tesla, but financially at 2.5x the cost, I better like the Tesla more.
  • Oct 4, 2015
    abasile
Great move! Including private party listings is definitely something that needed to happen. Ideally, you want your site to become the "go to" place for anyone interested in buying or selling a used Tesla.
  • Oct 5, 2015

VIN 73201 is listed as a P85 but has Y in the AWD column. Is it a P85D or should it say N in that column?

Some of the autotrader pictures look like it is debadged, in the pictures where I see the badge it's too dark to tell easily from a distance and not high resolution enough to zoom in on the badge.

Either way it is listed significantly higher than the P85D CPO prices so I'd expect that price will have to drop.
  • Oct 5, 2015
    HankLloydRight
I fixed that listing, it is not a "D".

Fellow Tesla owners, I am on the 5 yard line on pulling trigger on a new Tesla instead of waiting for a CPO deal. If someone is willing to offer their $1,000 referral link, please pm me. The only requirement I have is that I would like to split your share of $1,000 i.e. you share $500 of your bonus with me when you get it later (i keep my full $1000). I will obviously need to trust your word (as a fellow Tesla owner) as I will not be chasing you if you run away after you receive the bonus and not share with me (the only ask is your referral link, name, email and phone number). I want put to my order in tomorrow most likely. If nobody is interested in the offer then I will grab a random referral link from the other referral link thread and contend with just my $1000. Hopefully, i am not being too greedy :). Please PM me if interested.

I'm on the lookout for a low price S85 CPO but I agree with others that the listed CPOs are priced very high making them unattractive than new ones. Have you guys had any luck in negotiating the price on the listed CPO cars. Does Tesla entertain the price reduction formula (mentioned earlier in this and other threads) for miles driven and year model?
I can wait until apr 2016 when my current lease runs so I'm hoping CPO deals will get better.
  • Oct 8, 2015

:biggrin:Reserved a 2013 P85 Mettalic Grey, Pano Roof, 19 inch wheels (I drive on avg at least 100 miles a day, plus Los Angeles freeways have been known to be unkind to rims) Obeche Wood Matte Decor, Tech Package, Smart Suspension, Ultra High Fidelity Sound, Rear Facing seats, Premium Interior Lighting and Parcel Shelf. I have a tentative delivery date of first week of November. Although my Delivery specialist informed me that the car the car had already passed inspection and he was arranging for shipment from the New Jersey store. Fingeres crossed that I can get my model S on the west coast sooner rather then later!

p.s I have a colleague who was looking at a CPO at a P85 with the "Performance Legacy Package" my research has led me to believe that means that a car was/is an 85 and the owner used to be able to have the option to add the suspension to make it a P85? Am I way off on this? Any info would be awesome! Thanks!

The sales guy that is trying to find me a PD said that no one is trading in their PD's, so it's going to be a long wait for a good deal....on a PD anyway.

He also did not think that to many people would trade in their PD for an X.....I have actually been told that by several Tesla people AND with the release of AP they are expecting a ton of new orders in the next few weeks.

Douglas, why dont you try for inventory PD. I ordered 85D last weekend for about same price as 85D CPOs that couple ppl bought sometime back. And mine is like new and being 1st owner i can do 4 yr warranty extension if i want. Take advantage of 2k referral before it goes away in 2 weeks.

I have already used up my tax credit for this year, so I either have to wait until 2016 or get a CPO from Tesla or private party used. At this rate I am probably just going to order one and take delivery Jan 2nd.

I'm curious to see what effect the release of autopilot has on CPO pricing. Ie, now that autopilot is real, will potential CPO buyers shift to new AP cars? Will the potential shift in demand have a significant impact CPO pricing?
  • Oct 18, 2015
    DougH
Their are a lot of P85 and P85+'s on the CPO that have been there for a while, that are not selling. I think that a lot of people are going to want AWD and AP cars. Will Tesla reduce the price on the cars that are not selling?, probably not or they would have already done it.

dont think it is a good deal. You can get better deals on inventory 85D (after tax credit) especially if you dont care about subzero package, premium interior, etc. A brand new 85D starts at $76,700 (85,000 + 1,200 dest - 7500 tax credit - 2000 OH/VA referral) so you have another 13K to add options you really want to get to same price on a new car. Keep in mind, if you dont live in SoCal, you also pay shipping on this CPO whereas new one would be free shipping.

Low mileage is good, but remember once you hit 50K you have no option of the extended warranty as a second owner (since it was sold to a dealer). I just got a trade-in quote from Tesla for mine (see signature below for specs) and they offered $45K at 51,000 miles.

I would think a higher mileage CPO (with full CPO warranty) might be a better deal for you.

    Here's one for $51K.

Red and blue are the two colors that I am not crazy about, but for a decent price I could be swayed.

Yeah like hashraf said, not really a good price.

I just created an 85D with the following add on and still ended up lower than that 85D

    85D with Premium Interior,
    Smart Air suspension
    Panoramic

comes out to be $82.2K for me since I am in CA after referrals

So definitely solidifying my point on how the CPO Teslas are way over priced. I guess Tesla is in no hurry to get rid of them. I mean the Model X is essentially delayed again. 5 Model Xs at the end of September release date just to meet what Musk said about release date. I don't count that as a release. I am not sure if there is any more Model X release since then. My guess is they are still working to get the Model X production up. In the meantime Tesla will continue to keep the prices high on these CPO to encourage more people to buy new so they can meet their 50-55K cars this year which I think a lot of people now are doubting if they are going to include Model X in those numbers.

You left out a few more options that are included. When I price it out, I get:
    Model S 85D $85,000
    Red Multi-Coat Paint $1,500
    19" Silver Cyclone Wheels $2,500
    Tan Next Generation Seats $2,500
    Glossy Obeche Wood Dcor $750
    Autopilot Convenience Features $2,500
    Premium Interior and Lighting $3,000
    Smart Air Suspension $2,500
    Ultra High Fidelity Sound $2,500
    Subzero Weather Package $1,000
    Total: $103,750

Buying new in Colorado, that would come down to $90250, not including taxes, delivery, etc.. A VA or OH referral would bring the new price down to $88250 but when buying used in Colorado, I could instead deduct $6000 more off the price of the CPO. I guess I meant it's a fairly good price for Colorado buyers as $83,300 is pretty good for almost new. I'm not really looking for one with that many options but if I got all those options and saved nearly $5000 in the process, I would call it a good deal. If it was any other color, I would seriously consider it.

Wow, no wonder CPO prices are high.

Curious on all the high VINs in the 53s and 54s... There is as low as a 49k with AP on there and i wonder if any of the higher ones have AP built in (sensors and cameras).

If that was a + I would be all over it.

With poor reliability ratings, used Model S prices are going to have to drop or Tesla will have to increase the warranty.

It should be a + for that price. Back in May, I looked at a few inventory lower optioned 85Ds in that price range.

doubtful - minor speedbump in the scheme of things.

exactly - the only thing affected is the stock price.

Perhaps, but where I was ready to jump on a few CPO deals, now I'm not anymore. Reliability issues on a MY 2013 are scary and an unknown for a "normal" buyer like me. CR is even more damning because they think MY 2015 has even more issues.

    Counter:

We bought an EARLY 2013 CPO S85 for major discount off new 4 months ago.
Original owner had done little/no maintenance, so Tesla took a few weeks and performed everything on the maintenance list to "catch it up".
It's >65000 km and running strong, with 4 more years on the comprehensive warranty, and 6 more on drive train and battery.

Recently we did our first maintenance (wiper blade was hitting a bit loud on the down stroke, yes, I know, first world problems).
Tesla dropped off a loaner P85 and came back same day with our CPO S85 beautiful and clean.
Not only did they fix the wiper, they also put on new brake pads as part of a safety change for winter driving, amazing service!

    We couldn't be happier.

    Counter Deux:

I will jump in as well, my CPO 2013 P85 was delivered to my house on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend not fully ready for prime time, and within a day I had developed a list of items that needed attention. The nearest SC wanted it Tuesday morning to correct the items, but I had plans (window tinting etc.) already lined up and told them they could have it Thursday and Friday. They delivered the car back to me Friday (6 days after the 1st delivery) and the vehicle was 100% perfect. I have only had one issue since (heat not working quite right after ver 7.0 upgrade) and the service center worked with me on the phone to get that straightened out without a service center visit.

I would totally buy this car again, and take comfort in the 4 year / 50k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and the remaining 5 1/2 years of unlimited drive-train warranty.
