Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing part 14

    I let a dealer/salesperson deceive me about a sunroof ten years ago - I'm still driving the vehicle and regretting it. My previous car had t-tops and I loved the open air. For the kind of money I'm dropping on a Tesla, I figure I want what I want. That said I've gotta wonder if the pano's worth $5k or more, as that's the pricing I've seen for P's. I'm hoping this is the start of a trend.

    Inventory S60 is up now. Bare bones but $68k before incentives.

    The next ber/Lyft venture?

    I presume the $100K P85D offer you made in "Tesla for Sale" is for the flagship vehicle?

    A few adds and one sold overnight, CPOC at 72 now. Maybe the other 235ish cars will become art cars on the playa later this month?

    The Canadian CPO inventory just disappeared from the website (except for 1 in Toronto). When I last looked earlier in the week there was a screenful. I would speculate it's related to the CAD price increase, but sounds like US inventory has disappeared too?

    What's going on here...the suspense is killing me. Not sure if I should be really happy that I'm picking my CPO up tomorrow, or would rather be waiting to see what's going to happen to the 250 cars that disappeared last night.

    It could be some entity making a large purchase and either reselling it at a higher price or using them in their fleet. Either that or they are removing and lowering or reevaluating the price.

    Or they could be selling to one entity and giving volume discount to make cash move for other ventures. This way they ultimately save money because they do not have to clear stock and provide the warranty.

    Or like others have said they might be trying to fake some data so to shares values higher on their next 500 million dollar funding drive.
  • Aug 13, 2015

    Looks like they are back up on the CPO site. US is showing 304 cars available as of now.

    I just got 5 alerts for "new listings" from ev-cpo.com. Every one of them was for P85/P85+'s that had been previously listed, then removed, so they're doing something over there...
  • Aug 13, 2015

    Do you think this was all just to confuse your site, Hank? If so, it looks like they may have only been partially successful, as it still records each of the previous prices.

    I'm crushed! When the reasonably optioned P85 came out a little before midnight for less than $60k, followed a few minutes later by P85s in the mid-$60s, I was hoping that this was a massive re-evaluation effort, with lower prices to follow. But it looks like prices have remained about the same.

  • Aug 13, 2015

    No I don't think that was the sole purpose, but rather a convenient side effect (possibly intentional) of what ever else they are doing.

    I may go back and add an "original listing date" which wouldn't change. But for Tesla's sake, it would only be accessible to subscribers and not the general public.

    Hmm guess I'm confused as P03023 is listed @ $62.1K. I must have whiffed on my drive by reading comp; thought we discussing P85s which sold for under 60K. One was today & I mistakenly thought you said another loaded P85 went for under 60. I was quoting the build of P01821, the only other sub-60 P85.

    My apology, wasn't paying attention.

    Gotcha, thanks. I should have specified which VIN.

    I think the CPOC updates fairly often now - every 10 minutes, Hank? - but at one time it might have been on the hour or half-hour. That first one that went sub-50 dropped from $54K to $47.9K and was gone in 5 minutes. The buyer checked in here & I think the sold price got manually updated.

    I took delivery of my CPO on Friday. I'm very pleased with the overall condition of the car. It has only a few extremely minor scratches on the vehicle, the interior looks as close to new as possible, and I would estimate the tires being about 7 and 9/32's. Considering the price I paid, I'm extremely pleased. My car was max charged to 200 miles and 90% charges to 180 or 181, so I figure it has about a 4% reduction from the factory number. Not bad considering it's 2 years old.

    I don't know if my experience is the similar to others, but after spending literally 2 or 3 minutes looking over the vehicle, I was asked to sign off on a document listing any deficiencies that Tesla was agreeing to correct. The document had about 8 or so lines, which had all already been filled in with N/A typed on each one. Had there been any deficiencies found with the vehicle, I certainly would be unhappy about how this was handled.

  • Aug 17, 2015
    abasile
    The average annual depreciation rate on cars in general is somewhere in the ballpark of 15%. And we are starting into the time of year where depreciation rates typically pick up. Those prices are a comin' down...
  • Aug 17, 2015
    cab
    So while I am predominantly interested in a P85 or P85+, I sort of assumed "if they don't come down far enough in price, I'll be getting another EV or PHEV to replace my Volt", but then I got to thinking...a new 2016 Volt will be $41K loaded, and new Audi A3 E-tron will be at least $47K with the mid-level trim (as I would build it) and a BMW i3 rex is $48K (loaded but with typical discounts) so THEN the question is would I prefer even a base stripper CPO S60 for as low as $50-$55K (much less Branste's $44k!) over any of those cars? Sure those cars give me an additional $4k-$7500 in federal rebates so that's nothing to sneeze at, but still...something to consider....hmmm.
  • Aug 17, 2015
    davewill
    To my thinking, you have to compare with the after incentives price on the new cars, but yeah, you just might prefer the CPO car.
  • Aug 17, 2015
    Drucifer
    That's where I landed. My 2013 Volt goes off lease and back to Chevy in a month. $25k delta+/- between loaded 2016 Volt LTZ and the Loaded CPO P85 that I got. I rationalized that if I kept the car for 5-6 years, that's about $100/week. So I did an "I can do that" and made my move. Feel free to borrow my rationalization or create your own. ;)
  • Aug 18, 2015

    After having my car for less than a week, I can tell you that I LOVE IT! During the time I was waiting for the car I wasn't able to sleep, just out of excitement and anxiety about the condition and costs of the vehicle. Now I still can't sleep at night because I'm either out playing with the car, or just thinking about it. I honestly can't wait until this new car obsession wears off and I can get some rest and just enjoy the vehicle. It certainly doesn't have all the bells and whistles that other Model S's may, but IMHO I'm not really missing anything.
  • Aug 18, 2015
    cab
    I definitely enjoy some bells and whistles, but certain ones rank way higher on my list. As an example, leather is a must and I love heated seats (even in Texas) and keyless entry. I also like bluetooth calling. Most CPOs have the tech package and leather so I would get those. I don't have to have pano (we NEVER use them even though lots of our cars have had them), upgraded stereo, air suspension, bluetooth music streaming, navigation, autopilot, etc. Honestly, the only feature that woudl sort of stink to not have is parking sensors given the size of the car. It is still a premium over those other cars, but at the end of the day a base S60 feels like a P85D most of the time while you are just cruising along (as my old M5 did compared to my wife's 530i).
  • Aug 18, 2015
    brantse
    I agree, very good points. The nice thing about Tesla is that many of those features (ie. bluetooth streaming/calling, keyless entry [even phone app control], GPS positioned maps [without navigation], rear view camera) come standard.
  • Aug 18, 2015
    Drucifer
    Actually, now that there are lines on the backup camera, the lack of parking sensors is no big deal. Just make sure you stop when the camera lines touch the bumper of the car behind you.
  • Aug 18, 2015
    HankLloydRight
    And always back into parking spots. :/

    I was lucky enough to get Artsci's front camera kit (no longer available) which makes parking a breeze. I can see everything really up close.
  • Aug 18, 2015
    ModelSFL
    Lol on the S60 vs P85D. I found that to be my reality. Given the type of driving I typically do, having that type of power would not provide any real world benefit. I found the biggest feature for me was AP and the futures in it.
  • Aug 18, 2015
    cab
    Oddly enough I find that I use the FRONT sensors WAY More often on my cars with them than the rear (something I would not have imagined prior to getting them). I seem to have all these use cases where I am pulling up to something and trying to get as close as possible. Of course the best sensor would invariably be the "STOP, STOP, STOP you are about to curb a wheel" sensor...:)
  • Aug 18, 2015
    Drucifer
    Now THAT'S the sensor I need. Maybe I should put on some curb feelers.
  • Aug 18, 2015
    BoerumHill
    And giant fuzzy dice hanging off the RVM!

    Related: those alloy rim protectors supposedly work well to prevent curb rash. Any particular brand I should get?

    Model S is a much wider/longer wheel base than I am accustomed to driving. I pride myself as being a Costanza level parallel parker, but I'm gonna feel sick if I scrape an $800 wheel.

    Sorry for the hijack.

  • Aug 18, 2015

    We were talking about this at lunch the other day. Everyone we know who owns a car with auto parking doesn't use it, but they love to boast their car has it.
  • Aug 18, 2015
    Cyclone
    Yeah, I wouldn't use it. I would much rather have the sensors (or a front camera!) instead. I had the power folding mirrors retrofitted on my car because I have such tight space to get through the garage door (lots of room in the garage itself). I wouldn't trust auto parking to work well in my garage.
  • Aug 18, 2015
    dusterbuster
    My wife's i3 has this feature and it's pretty useless. Too cumbersome/slow to activate, and prone to rubbing the tires/rims against the curb. The i3 is so agile and easy to maneuver I'm not sure why you would ever need it.
  • Aug 19, 2015
    Cowby

    May I ask what the costs is to retrofit? I might consider older cars in my search if it's not too much!

    TomServo
  • Aug 19, 2015
    Cyclone
    Generally speaking, the power folding mirror retrofits are about $2,500. However, depending on the VIN, it could be cheaper b/c some VINs had the right mirrors, but need new wiring harnesses; while some VINs had the right wiring harness, but need new mirrors. My car specifically was the former, but others I've spoken with needed both. So in my case, I paid $1,200 instead of $2,500.
  • Aug 19, 2015
    BoerumHill
    I'm aware. Most people are either spending $425 for the TST 19x8.5 or $1100 for the stock 21", so I picked a number near the average.

    $8K seems cheap stacked next to the kids tuition bills. Not sayin', just sayin'...

    ;)

    Anyway, for a little over $100 these seem like a no-brainer no matter how much you are spending on wheels

    For future Model S owners, the supposedly upcoming 360" camera setup should help with that (at least it does on my LEAF).

    I'm getting itchy...

    My CEO caught the Tesla fever from me & plunked down a Model X reservation. Our CTO is contemplating ordering a P90D. I just got a verification call from a lender for our VP of Engineering - he's on vacation but I think he's going to pull the trigger on a 70D. Our VP of Sales just came back from Santa Clara. Did a test drive whole he was out there and is "90% sure" he's buying a CPO 85. Should probably rename the company Tesla Telecom.

    My vacation starts tomorrow - Lake Michigan beach house for 11 days - and I'm day tripping to Highland Park with my brother and nephew on the 28th.

    I don't think I can hold out much longer...

    Hehe well that's 3 offers in the last hour. If they had a CPO referral you'd get it for sure. I'm still leaning toward P85+ over 85D.

    Is there any CPO got partial prepaid annual service for free (from previous owner that already paid for the service)?
  • Aug 20, 2015
    Cyclone
    A CPO would mean the previous owner turned it into Tesla. As such, they either got a pro-rated refund, transferred the remaining visits to their next Tesla, or were out the money. It does not carry forward to subsequent purchasers from Tesla.
  • Aug 20, 2015
    BoerumHill
    From searching/reading various threads on the extended warranty option and prepaid annual service, it appears the former is transferrable but the latter is not in a private sale. So I think no, but I'm no authority, just going on other posts.

    First Post! Walked into the Tesla Store in San Diego on Thursday and put my deposit down on a 2012 Model S P85 Signature Performance in Pearl White with 14K miles on her. Walked out and thought..."did that really just happen?!" Pretty stoked! My dad has a '14 MS85 and we went on a road trip from Santa Barbara up to the factory and took the tour and from that point on I was hooked! The car I put the deposit on happens to be in Santa Barbara where my dad lives and he just took it out for a spin and had me on the phone while he did it. Ha! Seems like a good deal. How on earth do they plan to sell those 2013 and 2014 P85 and P85+ models for the $80Ks and $90Ks when the 2015 85D vehicles show up as CPO cars?

    Wow! I guess i should check put my local store to check out if they have 85D at similar or lower price. I am still waiting for something in the range of 65K though for the 85D. Guess i will have to wait a bit more... Maybe when the model x comes out.
  • Aug 25, 2015
    MsElectric
    You may get your wish of an 85D around $65K next year :)
  • Aug 25, 2015
    sitter_k
    Do you know something??? :)
  • Aug 25, 2015
    MsElectric
    Just basic math :) A CPO 85D sold for around $81K a few weeks ago and we now have a report of another CPO 85D for around $77k. A 2015 85D will depreciate about $1,300 a month for about the next year given typical mileage so $1,300 X 12 (about 1 year) = $15,600 (approximate annual depreciation for an 85D).

    So $77K - $15K = $62K, right about what No2DinosaurFuel would like to pay for an 85D.

    All this shows is how some of the 2014 P85s and P85+ cars are absurdly priced on the CPO inventory for the $80Ks and $90Ks.
  • Aug 25, 2015
    BoerumHill
    Do me a favor and apply those same depreciation rates to a 2014 P85/P85+ that was $112K/$126K list new. Let us know where those absurdly priced CPO in the $80Ks and the 90Ks should be priced.

    As you said, just basic math.

    :)

    Ugh, I just turned down a CPO 60 with pano, uhfs, wood matte, supercharging...for 47.4K- probably gone now as this was yesterday per a service rep, so someone got/will get a good deal. I just couldn't pull the trigger. My want list is only for rear seats and possibly tech package as I've posted before. I would have purchased immediately with 'em. I also just HAVE to see what happens with the CPO market with the release of MX...this is hard!

    All I know is that 2014 P85/P85+ should cost less than a 2015 85D with Autopilot given that the performance is about the same and the 85D delivers a bunch of refinements and enhancements along with AWD and Autopilot.

    The 2014 P85/P85+ should likely be priced in $70s for it to make sense, at least to me. It's not just me. A while back someone did a very thorough analysis of CPO cars that have actually sold (not just "removed") and the conclusion was that some of the higher priced CPO offerings don't move and that most of the purchasing activity is in the lower priced CPO offerings.

    My math says if they drop the prices of these CPO's by 7-10k we should definitely see movement of these cars. We're essentially bargain hunters looking for the most bang for the buck.....and we know we're losing the 7.5k fed incentives (and whatever state incentives we might me eligible for) by going used vs. new.....and yes, the typical client that can afford these cars are ones that can benefit from the tax credits/rebates. Whomever is running the show of these CPO's just doesn't get the mindset of a USED CAR BUYER at these prices.

    Right now there is a S85 for 53K. Not a great deal, but not bad either. It's a 2012 though but well equipped save for the pano roof which I think some would not care for given all the problems it has especially the old gen version. Seems like this one is lasting longer than usual hinting lower demand than before when such car will be snatched up quick!

    O well more waiting... for the < $65K 85D

    Mark my words....an average price drop of 7-10k and that logjam boerumhill speaks of will be released! Check my rough math but, 300x8k= 2.4m they lose, in return, they just gained 300x70k= 21m to their sales. That's not too shoddy from a CPO sales perspective, right?

    If automotive revenue was $1.12B last quarter I'm not sure $0.021B is too exciting. I suspect they'll need to keep prices up for when the residual guarantee cars start flowing into the CPO system.

    Residual guarantee is irrelevant in this case as these prices will be set by the market. No amount of price controls by Tesla will yield in too many people plunking down $80k-something for a 2014 P85 when for the same money or less they will be able to buy a 2015 85D with autopilot.

    All they said with the residual guarantee is that the Model S will be on par or better with the Mercedes S Class for resale value. There is plenty of room for pricing to drop and still maintain parity with used S Class sales.

    Exactly!...again, the minds of a used car buyer at THIS price range is what they don't get, or at least won't admit to?

    Nice!

    I've more or less transformed our small tech company into a Tesla firm. Hoping to accomplish something similar in my clan while on vacation in Michigan for 12 days.

    I've been eyeing that car also. Surprised at the price, but the colors don't work for me (personal preference). The low VIN is also scaring me off a bit. Hopefully someone can take advantage of it.

    I'm not too sure. For example, P33120 price dropped from $76,900 to $64.500, but it is still sitting there for a long time. I clearly don't understand how Tesla priced these cars in the first place. And what's up with changing the listing dates to make them look like new?

    The RVG not only affects the CPO cars, it also changes the liability for all cars that Tesla has to carry on its books. An increase of $10K for the 50,000 cars out there would mean a liability increase of $500M. Not a negligible sum, IMO.

    It will take a lot more than a $10K price reduction to move those 2014 P85/P85+ vehicles in the CPO inventory currently priced in the $90Ks!

    You've got to be an idiot to even consider buying that car at 64.5k, much less 76.9k...that's why it's sitting there so long. Do they think we are idiots or so nonchalant with our money as to give it away?

    Using my 7-10k price reduction on that 64.5k and it'll probably get snatched up, eh?

    That is the most crazy optioned 60 I have ever seen. "I want everything but I have no plans on ever taking a road trip."

    Are you saying this because it doesn't have dual chargers? It does include Supercharger enabled. Am I missing something here?

    because it's an 60kW battery instead of the 85.

    And then there is this gem of an S60 for $86K :rolleyes: It's for the Tesla buyer on a budget who has got to have Executive Seats for the rear passengers...

    You are right. I took a closer look at the listings. Several have already gone through massive price cuts of over $10K, some close to $20K. Still nto selling. The initial prices were ludicrous. But even after price drops, they remain insane. Below a few of the biggest drops I found from ev-cpo.com. Another 10-15K drop will start moving some of these.

    (Price in thousands USD)
    P53122 P85+ 115 -> 96.7
    P26161 P85+ 105 -> 86.9
    P26048 P85+ 105 -> 89.2
    P26165 P85 86 -> 70.2
    P37447 P85 100.7 -> 85.7
    P20903 P85 87.8 -> 71.2
    P48065 P85+ 105 -> 93.1
    P43597 P85 98 -> 82.9
    P41960 P85+ 108 -> 93.5
    P26695 P85+ 101.6 -> 87.4
