Took delivery of our 70D last Friday. There were 2 or 3 other delivery going on at the same time. This was the Costa Mesa So Cal delivery center.

We can now confirm the new Gray is identical to the Mercedes Steel Gray, exactly the color my wife wanted.

Well, sure hoping my 70D build moves out of production today and into transit as the DS stated it would yesterday.

Totally excited about it delivering within next couple weeks. Just a little concerned when I read all the post of things that are wrong when people take delivery - e.g. headliner issues, misaligned panels, seal issues, etc. Definitely will control the excitement and try to check anything out but if find items it will surely be a bit disappointing in Tesla for delivering anything with issues like that in the first place, things that the factory and/or DS should clearly find and correct ahead of time IMHO.

We'll see, but totally stoked in anticipation still...

Looks totally sharp, great color! The black inserts in front versus the chrome really go with that color nicely too!

Wait a second, wait a second!!! Are those red brake calipers on your 85D? I thought that was a P85D option only!
  • Jun 8, 2015
    chriSharek
Good eye! This is still only an option on the P85D as far as I know. This was just the model I built in the store - and wanted to memorialize my birthday with it.

Having said that, you can get aftermarket red covers at EVANNEX - which I plan to do. They are logo'ed with EVANNEX and not TESLA, but still big, bold, bright red ones. cs

That's my favorite color also. BTW, I see you are forecasting September delivery - that's around 4 months. Is that the lead time for a MS now?

Sorry - no. I should clarify that in my signature line. My son doesn't turn 16 until December (when I get my new car). I first talked the wife into a November delivery for a Thanksgiving trip. Then, I talked her into a September for our National Plug In Day (Drive Electric Week) Event.

    I didn't mean to cause confusion . . . . 85 days until 9/1/15 (est delivery for me).

Interesting, I'll look into that, thanks.

There is a shop locally that will paint my calipers (covers?) red for $50 a caliper. I was pointed to them by someone else and his Tesla still says Tesla on them. Whether they taped that up or applied a sticker or what-have-you, I do not know.
  • Jun 8, 2015
    chriSharek
Take a look at this for $230. Clip on covers - no drilling, gluing and completely reversible. Powder coated aluminum. I'm getting these without a doubt.
  • Jun 8, 2015
    Cyclone
I'm familiar with those, but as the other person pointed out, they say Evannex on them rather than Tesla. I would consider them if they had no printing on them though.
  • Jun 8, 2015
    chriSharek
I'm not sure it's that noticeable. I like the look of the big red calipers, not the nameplate. :)
  • Jun 8, 2015
    Max*
I have 3 things I want done with my car... Tints, audio upgrade and possibly red calipers.
The first is a must (kids in the back, from what I read, it'll get hot otherwise), and I already got quotes. The second is a want. The last is a would be cool.

Now to make it to the end of the week to pickup my car :D
  • Jun 8, 2015
    Cyclone
Well, I have a set of @rogerbmw's red Telsa logos for my wheel caps. They look sharp on another car I saw with them. Going to let that sit in for a while, then decide. The good thing is this is cosmetic, so no rush on changing them.
  • Jun 8, 2015
    RDuke
chriSharek - where did you take delivery (looks like Sarasota)? I thought Tesla only delivered through their Tampa facility. Did Sarasota "prep" your car before delivery?
  • Jun 8, 2015
    Cyclone
Chris won't get his car until September. Much can change between now and then.
  • Jun 8, 2015
    chriSharek
I ORDERED my car in Sarasota - hence the pix. We'll pick it up in Tampa.

Cyclone, the way you say that it makes me feel like I could drop dead in the next 3 months and you're freaking me out! :(
  • Jun 8, 2015
    Cyclone
Lol! No. I just meant it could be like Charlotte. Anyone in Charlotte ordering (and arriving) over the past few years and even until this week, is actually serviced through Raleigh. This is even though Charlotte has an open Service Center since March and an open Sales Center since May. This is because Charlotte doesn't have its finalized state license to official "sell" the car. We met a new owner in Charlotte whose order should arrive in a couple weeks. We are hoping his can actually be delivered at the Charlotte Store by then. So Tampa vs. Sarasota could be that only one can provide delivery today, but maybe by September perhaps both can.

Stupid question. How do I enable the gps portion of the home link garage door opener?
  • Jun 8, 2015
    Cyclone
It automatically links the GPS to where it "tests" the connection. So you bring up homelink, you program the remote into it, and then it says to press to see if it works. Where the car is when you press that (you can turn on the car and drive it around if you need to, like if setting the GPS of a gate after programming in your driveway) is where the GPS will automatically be linked to. There is no manual linking. If you tested the programming at the wrong place, you have to delete the homelink setup for that remote and redo it.
  • Jun 8, 2015
    pmoa
Okay so I did that outside the garage and when I drive up to the house the home link button doesn't auto present itself
  • Jun 8, 2015
    Cyclone
At that point, maybe delete and try again. I got my car only a couple weeks ago with 6.2-2.4.188 and now with 6.2-2.4.239, it still pops up automatically at both places I programmed it. Through try rebooting the 17" screen first and see if that makes a difference.

I painted my ICE's calipers on my driveway with a ceramic paint kit. But not sure if I'll do the same on my Model S.

With the exception of paint / surface treatments -- which seem surprisingly common for a car with such a shiny paint job -- I've noticed nary a dearth of mods with the Model S so far. I'd have thought the early adopters would include "hackers" and there are the camping mode videos etc. but I've not seen a lot of the kinds of customizations I'd expect from such a passionate customer base. Maybe the car really is that good, right out of the rail car ??? ahhh the wait is killing me :scared: lol ("late June" :)
  • Jun 8, 2015
    lg_golfs
    Mine was a pest.

I actually asked my neighbors to come over after trying to pair my car to the remote for 30 mins or so. Figured leave someone clicking the search button the garage door opener.

My neighbor walks into the garage and looks up at the motor. I try the link button yet again. It works!

So, find a neighbor and have them simply look at your garage door motor. Should do the trick ;)
  • Jun 8, 2015
    travwill

For most garages you 1) have to train your car with the remote you have, then 2) connect your car to the garage motor/unit. Most have a button on the garage door opener that you push, light comes on, and then you use you car pretty quickly to open/close, lights blink multiple times, done. This is all rolling code garage doors (99% of them out there).
  • Jun 8, 2015
    lg_golfs
Yep! I had that damn light blinking for ages. Just finally decided to kick in when my neighbor showed up.

    First post.
Ordered my 70D this past Sunday. Order considered confirmed on 06/14/2015. Delivery in July. I already pressed the "Accept" button alerting Tesla no changes in the 7 day period. Am I correct that it makes no difference if you accept prior to end of 7 day period and nothing happens until that 7 day time period is over?
    Thanks.
  • Jun 10, 2015
    Cyclone
    Congrats and welcome!

Other than the process starting 7 days earlier, no. Though this also means that if you suddenly absolutely must change something, you are now subject to a change fee.
  • Jun 10, 2015
    travwill
Congrats as well - agree, no changes but just starting the process a little sooner maybe. You'll be "in the queue" a little earlier.
The main benefit you have is being in CA already - thus taking delivery locally or having it shipped to you will be a lot faster than those of us that have the long train rides with little ability to know where they are...

  • Jun 11, 2015
    travwill
Just seems to depend on how everything works out - I'd say yes if your production doesn't start too fast (prioritization on some models), then if production goes a bit long or is late completing, then again if you sit in the lot a while waiting to ship, again on shipping if train is not direct, stops, etc, then again on final destination if have to sit in local lot before getting over to a SC.

Even though I crane my neck every time I drive by the Tesla store, my eyes have still not seen ocean / deep blue metallic in person yet :) My Ocean Blue Model S is still approx 2 weeks away :crying: so I don't know if I'll be able to keep my own eyes virgin till we meet hehe but congrats to you Buzzz hope the 70D is all you expected and more.

I really like how blue this is from the pics which we all know don't really work with Model S in general and even less with this colour. Some things that are made to move aren't easily photographed ;)

Happy that Tesla tries not to create a "class system" inside the model eg. with some colours only being available on the 85D or P. It's already enough I had to pay for paint -- I didn't even consider black because I feared that the "free" paint could impact resale value more than the cost of the "deluxe" paint.

And, the Ocean Blue just looked damn good on this car, at least in the pictures

Blue vs. Red - both are equally dashing, but red is almost too bright (well its red, and not just red but cayenne red).
Blue is stand out, dashing, yet serene. It'll look even sexier in snow.

BY THE WAY, here is blue with black (what I ordered).

Hopefully I pick my 70d up on Tuesday, I stopped by the Orlando location yesterday and was playing with the range calculators and noticed that the 70d shows more city range under certain conditions compared to the other 2 options, can this be right???
  • Jun 13, 2015
    travwill
Yeah, totally possible and accurate it seems. It is the most efficient of all models at this point, even more so than the 60 it seems. At lower more common city speeds you can achieve the best mileage mainly due to the lower weight of less batteries. 15Kw of batteries weight quite a bit, the smaller motors weigh less (than P85), and the 70D performs well but draws less power at starts (it is limited) by software. Pretty interesting comparisons!
  • Jun 13, 2015
    kuttakamina
+1 to what travwill said. Also real world kWh reports from 70d owners seems to confirm it. Even on freeways if you are a 55mph sort of a person, 70d is probably going to be the same range as 85d. A lot of people don't realize this, but when you are doing 55mph, you never have to brake :). I wish they had that calculation thing online though. They used to.

Cool! I ordered the Same Date and it auto confirmed 06/14. Interesting though at the Sales Office, they say you can confirm earlier by pressing on the "Confirm" button. So I ordered online on 06/07 and press the "Confirm" button on 06/09. It really didn't confirm other than the button went away. I guess I had to wait for that 7 days autoconfirm like everyone else.

My VIN, i think this is it 94090

Another quick question - for you guys that just are taking delivery also, that also got the premium interior & lighting package - say built last week of May forward -

Took delivery today around 5PM of my new 70D. Will look to post more detailed feedback on the car in next day or so when I use it a little more, etc. But in short for now:

    - it seems much nicer now that I've spent more time with it, definitely different!
    - i'm a fit guy, 6', 195/200, and it is snug getting in and out, rubbing the next gen seat bolsters - may have to set an exit scheme to use sometimes. hope they add where it just does it if home/work automatically since that is a lot of time.
    - i'm completely happy with the sound system (UHF). sounds great, playing slacker best quality, good managed bass delivery, high treble notes, etc.
    - the autopilot was pretty awesome in the 5 miles home from service center on freeway with back to back traffic (Chicago). At setting of 1, it kept perfect distance from car in front of me, wasn't TOO jerky in starts/stops (could improve). i feel that it may make me look like a jerk sometimes where the car gets off in front of me and others are merging on - it picks up speed an closes the gap, ha, thus cutting off person getting on.
    - have to get used to the buttons/cruise/stalks/steering but that will be 2nd nature in no time. very easy already i can see.
    - I really DO like the solid white, non metallic. It is bright, extremely shiny, and a beautiful sporty color (is white a color?) for sure! i applied some aquapel to my front windshield today (love that stuff) and a coat of polymer backfire wet diamond (also awesome stuff and easy). looks even wetter/shinier (sp) now.
    - Even the charge port is cool, just opens/closes automatically, and you can also touch the corner of it if you don't have a tesla product to charge with and still opens now.
    - Oh, and I do have LTE - seems plenty fast in nav, audio, etc.

take care and hope everyone with theirs on order gets them delivered soon! was a great experience up to this point, although a hard wait!

It does. I stopped by the SC today to get a quote on trading in my current car and spoke with the delivery guy. Looks like my car should make it here by the end of the month. The Tesla website really lags behind the current state of the car. Mine says it's still being built, but it's on the lot waiting to be loaded on a truck.

They're trucking cars to certain states instead of using train in order to get them delivered before June 30th. This is mostly in states where the tax credit is expiring, but I didn't realize Illinois was on that list.

The auto closing charge port is new for all D models. The touching the corner of it seems very new DS said, and is good for when you don't have a Tesla item to push a button on and need to open it quickly and easily, without the key method (holding trunk button). Plenty of options to open that charge port now & so glad it charges as no chance to forget it now.

"that's a lotta cars" - are they all new, some CPO? Any customer cars in the mix (repairs, etc.?)

Nope, Most if not all are new. They don't put the protective wrap on all cars, only some. I was there a few days back, and it' wasn't this packed. They have a huge backlog of customers getting delivery. Lex is one of them. I was lucky because I got in before all of the recent flood of orders. I was telling Lex on the phone, I feel its our duty to share this car with as many people as we can. I drove up to my co-workers place yesterday to show him the car.

And more arrived today while I was there ! Another 10 or so probably since yesterday.

They're trucking them in vs. train to get the sales recognized for the fiscal quarter. It looks like it's going to be a big one.

I'm even more anxious now that it is so close physically to me lol I have 5 more agonizing attempts at sleeps to go then like Kushari I become a traveling Tesla salesman

One of those shiny pearl white 70d's is mine :D

It's been there since yesterday morning. Appointment booked for Tuesday of next week. DS was saying that they've got double the amount of cars that they're accustomed to. A little over 60 cars are waiting to be delivered!

I ended up calling them directly. Couldn't wait for the phone call and I had an idea of when they were expecting to receive it at the service centre. Order confirmed April 29yh. Production completed around May 24th.

Inside Evs web site does some tracking.
    monthly, looks like
    99,48,250 = 397 Q1
    167,80?,??

looks like the cars shown in kushari's pics indicate an easy beat of 400 for Canada in Q2.

Also, if you'd like to see a minute video of mountain driving in rockclimbing country, check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynbgGpQGabE . I had a Blackvue 650 fore and aft dashcam installed. The aft-facing camera cannot be seen from the rear-view mirror.

I'm considering doing the same thing. I regret not having selected the option when I ordered the car.
My DS said all I need to do is schedule a service appointment to get it enabled, and pay the $3k. I may do so in the next couple of months.

The activation of autopilot features should be pretty straightforward on your car since the hardware is already installed. It should be a simple software upgrade. Is it worth the price? I would say yes if you do a reasonable amount of highway driving. My 70D came with autopilot prepaid, so I have the adaptive cruise control features right now and Elon Musk has said the lane-keeping features should be out at the end of this month. During the first 4 driving days after my purchase, I covered over 2,000 miles and never felt the fatigue I typically feel with other cars on long trips. Part of the answer is the great handling of the car, part is the comfort of the 2nd gen seats, part is the low noise level, but a big part is the reduction in effort cause by adaptive cruise control and auto-dimming headlights. Even when traffic was relatively heavy I left the cruise control on and it made the driving experience so much easier than it would have been otherwise.

My commute to work is 90% highway mileage. I think TACC is great but I think it's still a bit on the high side for 3K. I'm really intrigued with self park.

Thanks for posting the pics. The car looks great! I pick mine up on Wednesday morning. All Black as well....except I didn't get the 21" Greys. I made an appt. to get mine tinted immediately after pickup.

All the best with your delivery.
I will probably get mine tinted in the next few weeks.
Getting the interior a few degrees cooler is critical especially this time of the year.
