What it's all about part 1

When I get too lost in the center console this or interior finish that, I find that looking at this picture helps me remember why I'm in it for the Model S. Maybe it will do the same for you.

This is great stuff! Hopefully, EVs will be common place for these kids 10 or 15 years from now!

Here are shots of my 5-year-old who has already sworn to drive nothing but electric and that too a Tesla when he grows up! :)

My kids LOVE Tesla. They were totally hooked after we test drove a Roadster. The swag Tesla sent the past couple of years while we were on the waiting list helped, and they totally get the need for something other than carbon burning fossil fuels to power our transportation in the future. These were their happy faces when we saw the Beta in December:

Here's my son performing a quick structural check of the "Skateboard". I took this right before he started jumping up and down. I've taken him to the Bellevue store so many times I've lost count; nearly every weekend.

His current favorite thing is going for a ride in the MINI Cooper S. Can't wait to put the car seat into Model S!

It always makes me smile to think he's going to grow up with this car. Thanks to Elon and everyone at TM for making this car!!!

No kids to share but this struck me.

A brilliant quote from George B:

George is beyond selling cars here. Beyond aspirational.
He's putting a visit with the the car on par with all special moments. Birthday parties, Amusement parks, A Tesla.

We do it here on TMC but he's framing it for others to see the car as something that special.

Ah good, so you know what I'm up against. :) Tell me, how can I get out of some of the more pricy options? References to expensiveness is met by the all-trumping piggy-bank-see-money-is-no-object argument illustrated above... It's only the last couple of weeks I have been able to get out of the 21" wheels, and thank heavens the aero wheels disappeared...

My son always chose the 'oatmeal' (or equivalent). It worked out. The cars I purchased when he was around were all fully optioned or darn close. And he always convinced me to go black paint|black interior.

That's an awesome story! Kids at that age are so funny with what gets them riled up, and what calms them down. I would only caution that no one should have their kids' taste affect their choices, because the kids change their minds in a few months but you'll be stuck with their wish at this particular point in time for years to come.

As a kid, one thing I learned from the Boy Scouts was this:
Wherever you go, make sure you leave the place cleaner or better than it was when you arrived. This was part of my decision point in supporting Tesla and driving a Model S. Let's leave this world a better place for the next few generations . .
Not a bad legacy to aspire to.

Of course! You guys are right. Both those things would have prevented him driving off. Later on when I went to drive it, the windshield wipers came on full blast, cause of course the kids were playing with every control they could reach! Arggh, took me at least 10 seconds to figure out how to turn those off... I'll get used to that Mercedes stalk soon enough :)
  • May 8, 2013
    Arnold Panz
I learned quickly never to let my kids in the front seat, even if the car is parked, because they will screw stuff up (like the wipers), and cause a mess on the touchscreen. It's safer for them anyway, and now they love the rear-facing seats the most. It was worth the upgrade just to get them back there! :)
  • May 8, 2013
    Alpha
Yeah we went for a ride shortly after I took delivery, with my two boys (age 3 and 4) in the rear facing seats. They loved it! A lot of giggling whenever I accelerated decently. It does strain my back though to put them in and take them out-- you sort of have to bend over at a weird angle. I find it a lot easier to just get inside the trunk and sit on the rear of the car while buckling them in and taking them out.

I'd definitely be weary about kids in the front seats, you never know what they'll do! quick funny story: A friend of mine has a Sig S, and he had a very annoying rattle noise when taking turns. The Boston service guys took the car and spent about 8 hours trying to figure out what the heck was causing the noise. after taking out the entire dash assembly, they finally found a tic-tac sitting in the AC vent! it was about 2am when they returned the car to him, and presented him with an orange tic-tac.

Fortunately, they decided not to charge him labor this time, but i'm sure it won't be cheap if it happens again!

OK, back on topic. i cannot wait for my kids to see the car when it's delivered! I think my 3 year old might be more excited about it than i am, which is impressive.

No pics to prove it, but my 11yo drove the Tesla off our private drive in between a couple of trees - good aim given she meant to hit the brake versus the prissy pedal.

I also let our house-sitter use it when we were away on holiday this summer. The car had been in for a windshield replacement and was getting delivered back to the house the day before we arrived home. I offered it up to this 20-something self-proclaimed car nut.

He lived it up for 24-hours (with me monitoring remotely) to make his day, week, month and year.

This is one of my favorite long-running threads so I'm happy to bump it back up.
You might have seen that picture making the rounds on Twitter and then reposted BY TESLA on their Facebook page this morning.

My 10 year old daughter made that signage on the driveway and I saw it--backward-- in the rearview camera while backing into the garage (because no fumes, right!). When I walked around and saw what it said I knew it deserved a picture... which I then tweeted about midnight last night.

Anyway-- so when I checked back on the computer midday today the picture had was making the rounds. My daughter was quite excited "I'm famous!" and quite curious and concerned whether or not Elon had seen it. I have no idea.... so I tweeted him too. We'll see.

Here's the same view from this morning-- but now you can see her "thumbs up" smiley face (the Tesla's name is Serena) which was harder to make out at night. She was very proud of her thumbs up... I'm somewhat less so of her spelling (Allowd) but it does add a lot of cuteness.
And yes, I have since weeded the drain grain <sigh>.
