Custom Paint part 1

Doug's recent group photos of Tesla's lined up at the MP store brings to mind the cars that have for whatever reason, have gone for custom paint.

First a review of Tesla's stock colors

Arguably this light green car gets the most attention of the custom paintjobs.

There is no front license plate on Martin's car. Is that optional in California?
  • Feb 21, 2009
    stopcrazypp
Not optional to my knowledge. Some people get away with putting it in the front of their windshield but I think California law requires a securely mounted front license plate.

No, that's a picture of F12. I think it was Laurent that photoshopped in the gray stripes.

I took this photo a few weeks ago:

    3252334366_e54d353193_b.jpg

At first, I thought that gray hardtop might be a replacement for Martin's since the colors appear the same. However, the stripe pattern doesn't match.

That's what I thought, though a sign in the window often means a customer car, right? Ill wait for him to confirm.

I keep hearing that stripes are popular but I guess this does not count.

Wait for him to confirm what? That he did it, or that it's a photoshop? There's no question of the latter. As to the former, see here and here.

By the way, front plates are absolutely required in CA.[/QUOTE]

Yes, they are by law required to be firmly mounted to the front. But, about 10% of all cars in CA DO NOT comply with this law, and nothing is done unless the police want to harass you. It is primarily needed for radar and laser speed detection from the front of a car: a round front of a car doesn't have much radar reflection.
Of course, the officer will tell you it is to make sure your car isn't stolen....

Note the dealer plate. The setting almost looks like an artist's gallery like it's a photo shoot. (but it may be that the wrap was just finished. What's the picture on the wall?

A long time ago on the owner's forum someone talked about doing a wrap of the planet or something like that.

This one looks like the car drove at high speed through a paint factory. I applaud anyone who breaks the lines of a car. My Race cars were painted similarly out-of-the-box.

Yeah, the Roadster is short. I vividly remember my first drive in my new car, and finding at a stop light that I was looking UP at the license plate on a Ford Focus.

But although it is short, I do believe the Roadster is actually significantly bigger than the Smart, in terms of length, width, and total internal volume. The camera angle posted just makes it look a lot smaller.

Um, have you ever actually seen a Smart on the road? They're taller than the SUVs around here! My friend tells me that what I'm calling an SUV is actually a crossover, but the point is that the Smart has a huge aerodynamic drag area and that's visually obvious. Every time I see a Smart on the I-90, I think "Dumb." They're designed for 30 mph or below and city-only driving. Buying a Smart for a 30-minute commute at 60 mph is quite wasteful of energy.

P.S. I was wondering: What is the color of your Roadster, VFX? Copper? What's the official name of the paint color?
