What car/s did you come from? part 2

Once you start driving the S, you will soon forget about the Q7 and get yourself an X ;)

2012 VW TDI and 2007 Prius. The Prius has been sold, the TDI will be claimed by VW soon. Now we have to figure out what to lease until the M3 arrives???

2011 Acura MDX w/ Technology & Entertainment packages.

Loved that car, but new job commute made me hate the amount of gas I was burning through (financially and morally).

Had to give up the MDX early in a trade in. Got a shitty Hyundai Elantra rental to hold me over (hopefully just a couple more weeks).

2013 Nissan Leaf and 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. The 2000 Jetta is the daily commuter on a 95 mile journey. Can't wait for model 3 to replace it. I use a cassette adapter to listen to Talking Tesla :)

How long have you been waiting? I ordered a CPO S60 on August 5th, and I am also waiting not very patiently....

I gave up my 2008 BMW M3 convertible to get my S90D (now just over two months into it). I'll never look back. The ease and seeming effortlessness with which the S moves me through every day traffic without any of the noise, harshness and fuel expense by far makes up for the very rare enjoyment of a sunny day with the top down on a smooth twisty road. We still have a 2012 MB 350 ML Bluetec, but someday soon, it too will find its replacement BEV. Model X not a practical option, very low garage ceiling height, let alone the expense ...

Replaced my 2002 BMW M3 convertible; had 160K miles on it; loved the car but the repair bills were getting painful, so I got out before the SMG tranny finally died. That car was a great SoCal experience, handled beautifully, extremely well put together. I replaced her with a P85+ CPO that delivers better acceleration, same RWD handling (miss the e-diff, though) and same rear tire life! ;)

    You lose. :)
Mine was a 1999 Ford Econoline cargo van - two seats, 149,000 miles, 12mpg.

Suffice to say, Blue Max is quite an upgrade!

The E350 BTC was the best car I've owned. Our family grew so we traded it for a BTC ML but it just wasn't the same. I've always missed it until I got the Model S last month! :)

I've been waiting about the same amount of time. Got a call today from my DS, he said they have to repaint the car, so I guess I'll be waiting longer. Not a bad deal though...

2015 VW Golf TDI here. Using the buyback money to pay half of the MS off :) The buyback pushed me to order a MS instead of waiting for the M3. Holding on to my M3 reservation for now. Early December delivery here, can't wait!

I have a 2015 Mercedes S550 with lots of upgrades. Truth be told, I love it. That's why I haven't placed an order yet.

If it weren't for this lively site, I probably wouldn't bother. It's your enthusiastic testimonials that have interested.

Have you been for a test drive? How worried are you that Florida will be under water when your children are your age?

I did go on a test drive. I drove a MS twice and the MX once. I'm not worried about Florida. What me worry?

I had a 2008 Prius till about 18 months ago. My wife needed an SUV around 2014 for her work, so we were forced to trade in the Prius (@120k miles) to get an ICE. I have been using her 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid since then.

When we switched to these two hybrids around 2007, our hope was that next cars for both of us are either PHEV or BEV. But things didn't quite work out that way.

So I decided to rough it up with Camry till I can afford an S or 3 comes out. I'm picking up my 60D next Thursday !!!

I was surprised by the older Mazdas in the past couple posts. I came from a 2006 Mazda 6 that I bought used in 2007. I have never really been a car guy, so this is definitely the most I have spent on a car. If I didn't buy a Tesla I probably would have purchased a Honda Accord.

oh god, i had not thought of it that way before. even if i bough out my two currently leases, plus my purchased miata, im still like 50k short.

Stuff testimonials. Go test drive please!
  • Aug 31, 2016
    ApauloThirteen
It's a diff size/class of car, so there's the premium for that. Plus for any ICE, run the projected expenses (& I mean all of them (gas, smog, oil changes, 30,60,90K, brakes, etc) for 50-100K mile projected and the comparison gets better (not even, but better).

I confess I didn't read every post, but do I top the list by trading in a 2015 Corvette for a 2016 Model S 90D? Yes, I lost money, but it was worth it.

VW Scirocco 1.4 TSI (not a diesel / scandal machine!)

Was going to move up to a much larger car anyway. I lease my cars; the tax advantages of an EV meant that the MS 70D doesn't cost that much more to lease than an Audi A6 (and once you specify similar engine power, 4WD, all the driver assist technologies etc - the A6 gets very pricey). It's actually not that much more to lease than my VW scirocco was once you price in the fuel saving and the benefit in kind tax advantage. The scary part was that no-one in the NE of England seemed to have one at the time ... I had to travel 200 miles to Birmingham to even take a test drive.

Then decided if I didn't take the plunge I'd always regret it. Definitely the right decision.

My daily driver when I got the Model S in January 2013 was a 2012 3/4 ton Suburban. I had an Audi TT convertible with the 3.2 V6 that was the fun car I drove when no kids were involved. Both of those cars are now gone.

In a month or so I'm going to trade in 2595 for a P100D. It makes me a little sad and a lot excited.

yah but that only applies to the miata, both current leases are EVs. and, in all truthfulness, the model s is actually a 60,000 car.

Just did the math, the original MSRP of every car I've ever owned was more than all the previous cars combined, though the total was usually close to the original MSRP for the newer car. However my Model S is close to 4X the MSRP of all the cars I've owned before combined! It's worth 50X the 2016 Kelly Blue Book value of the car I moved up from.

This thread gets my blood pressure up a little... the British Columbia government modified their EV rebate program to cap out just below the lowest Tesla MSRP. When I pressured them via emails to all ministers involved, the answer was that those people who buy Tesla's are clearly rich and not in need of the rebate.

In reality, Tesla sells to people from a wide range of income levels, as this thread shows. Yes, those with money buy them. But it's also extremely likely that someone who would never consider paying that much for an ICE, will somehow find a way to finance a Tesla. And more people would do the same if the rebate wasn't designed to protect the dealers selling the short range EV and PHEV cars.

2009 Dodge Challenger SE -> 2016 Kia Soul EV
    2013 VW Golf R -> Tesla Model X 60D

Slower performance (on paper) in both cases :D

Got our first electricity bill after solar today (with net metering credit, includes ~55 mile commute and HVAC 24/7 in Texas): $24.57. Down from $230.63 same time last year (without EV). Never turning back.

Washington state eliminated their sales tax exemption for any EV with an MSRP above $42,500. California limited their tax rebate, but they did it based on income, not the price of the car.

If I had bought an ICE, it would have been one with a MSRP below $42K.

Benz R class, here to tell you the savings: Over $3,000.00 gas and $3,000.00 repairs oil changes etc so you do the number! Over $6k a year! And No more marks on the drive way... you know that european car... always leaks oil...

Well, if you want to get into sales tax... LOL... in BC they ramp up the Provincial sales tax from 7% to 10% a point at a time between $55k and $57k. So under $55k, 7%. $55-56k, 8%. $56k-57k, 9%. Over $57k, 10%. In all cases you must also add the Federal GST of 5%...

I've never understood how $1k makes a car 1% more 'luxurious'...

And needless to say, there is NO break given for EV's in these taxes... you just pay!

In spite of the political spin on being green in BC, the reality is just the opposite. Unfortunately.

Finally sold this bad boy. Paid $1k for it a few years ago, put 80k miles on it, and just sold it for $750.
