RSVP for pre-Tesla event meet-up part 1

  • Sep 7, 2011
    dsm363
Meet up is at City Beach (not BJ's Brewhouse as the poll above says)

Reply to this poll if you're planning on attending and how many people you're bringing (including you). If you want, also post a message saying you're attending so we get an idea of who's showing up. Or you can just vote anonymously. This is just to get a rough idea of how many people will be attending to see if it's worth getting a back room at a restaurant near the factory.

mwg found this place and it is probably a better option than BJ's Brewhouse which was discussed previously. It will still be on October 1st. Time 1-4PM. Thanks again to mwg for booking this. We have reservation now for 45 people but can always add more later. We have 10 parking spots reserved so we can line the Roadsters up for a photo-op.

Here's the website with the address:
    Fremont :: City Beach

    4020 Technology Place
    Fremont, California 94538
    Phone (510) 651-2500

    menu:
    Restaurant :: City Beach

It looks like we have the place finalized but please check this first post as it will be updated with the latest information.

update:note the new location for meet-up with City Beach replacing BJ's Brewhouse. This is confirmed with City Beach so we're good to go.

I'm attending with a guest. Look forward to meeting everyone.

How do I make this poll public (to see who voted that they are attending) or do people prefer it this way?

I should proofread before posting of course but could a moderator fix the poll title View Poll Results: to change 'meet-uo' to 'meet-up'? I don't think I can change it once it's up. Thanks.

Am a local and am in. Promised Petefish a ride to the meetup and back. Any 2-hour slot that afternoon is fine by me.

Hmm... there's oodles of parking near BJ's in front of what's now a boarded-up bankrupt retail store (Mervyn's Calif.). There's lots more parking on the opposite side of Mowry Ave. in the Newpark Mall lot. I sure hope though that all those roadsters in one spot don't attract any attention of the bad kind; the area's generally quite safe.

Sounds like 2-4PM will be best. I think the campus is only 4.5 miles away so shouldn't be long drive. The event starts at 5PM but what time are they recommending people get there?

I'll call BJ's brewhouse early next week and see if that time is available.

I hope to attend and since my wife cannot attend, I'm dragging along a friend who I'm hoping will buy a Model S. I've already convinced him to put solar on his house, and he just added a ground source heat pump - so I'm hopeful I can close a Model S sale as well - and then his conversion to the electromotive force will be complete!

    Doug_G
    Wow we've hit 40 people...
  • Sep 14, 2011
    dsm363
I just called to book it. For more than 25 people, they only do it under an event contract so a buffet style menu (can pick it out on their website) with unlimited food and soft drinks/water. Manager said it ranges from $15-25 per person. What do people want to do? Sounds like self pay is not an option. Someone would have to collect the $600-1000 from everyone and put it on one bill. I think everyone taking care of their own tab (especially when people start ordering drinks) would be easier.
We can just reserve multiple tables of large parties of 10 or so but people wouldn't necessarily site together. I don't know the area but are there other options if people don't want to do this?
  • Sep 14, 2011
    ibcs
Manager is missing a big opportunity using an event style contract. I don't see how it will work with someone having to collect the money to put it on one bill. That's my thoughts anyway.

    ---Kent
  • Sep 14, 2011
    smorgasbord
BJ's large party menu is here (PDF).

For $20/person we could do the "Endless portion" Pizzas and the "Endless Appetizers", and soft drinks (including tax and tip it comes to $19.80).

The way these things usually work is that anyone who wants alcohol can order and pay for that independently. The biggest problem is they probably won't let you have people there who aren't eating (or at least paying like they're eating).
  • Sep 14, 2011
    dsm363
I agree. It would be nice for people to come and go as they please and not have to worry about finding one person to figure out how to pay their bill instead of their own tab. If any locals have a better place in mind, post it here. Or we could just reserve tables of ten under names like Mr. Blonde, Mr. Blue, Mr. Orange, Mr. Pink, and Mr. White.
  • Sep 14, 2011
    bonnie
And Ms. White with cf accents.

There is a local bar & grill inside a sports complex called City Beach. It's about a mile from the factory. I checked with the restaurant this afternoon and they can accommodate 60 people with additional overflow in their patio area. Separate checks and no contract. Let me know if you want to go this route. Fremont :: City Beach

This place looks good. I say we go with this unless people don't want to. If you're able to book it without putting any money down, go ahead and do it. Thanks. If they need you to put a deposit down, wait until people chime in I guess to make sure people are ok with the place. I think it looks like a good option. Send me a PM if you're able to book it. I can call them too if you want later in the week. Thanks.
  • Sep 14, 2011
    dsm363
Yes. Left him out. We need more people to come I guess:smile:

I like this. We'll have to go with that. I guess if we change locations we won't need these but good idea if there ever is another event like this.

    dsm363
note change of location for meetup
mwg found City Beach (info in first post of thread) and looks like our best option unless people have strong objections. It's only a mile from the factory, they'll let people pay their own checks, and they have a parking lot. mwg is looking into parking to see if they can reserve 10 spots in a row for possible photo-op. Will there be more than 10 Roadsters at the meet-up? If you're driving your Roadster to this, post a message here too. Thanks.

Great. Actually, we can try and get as many spots as possible for parking. We'll try and find out if reserving spots is even possible tomorrow and then how many people are driving. Look forward to meeting everyone and going to the event.
  • Sep 14, 2011

+1 for City Beach. Very roomy indeed.
  • Sep 14, 2011
    slcasner
I agree with the change of location and will arrive in a Roadster. If the catering at the factory is like what Tesla has arranged at previous events in this area, there will be plenty of food there, so I'm not interested in a lot of food, hence this looks like the better venue. Is the plan still roughly 2-4 pm?
  • Sep 15, 2011
    dsm363
I don't think we're restricted to a 2 hour block so I think the plan now is 1-4PM. Some people wanted 1-3PM and some wanted 2-4PM too so this should work out for everyone.

My wife and I will likely be there. We still need to book a place to stay! Is there a common hotel folks are staying at?
  • Sep 15, 2011
    dsm363
Not sure if there is a common hotel but someone at Tesla recommended the Fremont Marriott Silicon Valley Hotel so a few people are staying there.
  • Sep 15, 2011
    dsm363
mwg was able to arrange 10 reserved spots for the meet up. Since we only have 10 spots, I guess we can reserve them for Roadsters if people don't mind. Would look more impressive with them all lined up and make for a good photo-op. It sounds like they are very flexible with parking so if we need more, we can probably get it.

Does anyone know how to edit the poll title? "View Poll Results: How many people (including yourself) will be attending the meet-uo at BJ's Brewhouse?"
I want it to say "View Poll Results: How many people (including yourself) will be attending the meet-up at City Beach?" Maybe a moderator could fix this? Thanks. Didn't want people to see that and get confused about the location.

I'm going to be flying into SFO on the Thursday and back on the Monday to England inorder to cover the events for GreenCarReports and TransportEvolved.

I'd love to come along. -- but may need some more help finding it etc.

I'm also going to be hiring a Prius for the week, so might be able to offer lifts...

    Nikki.

EDIT: Not able to now, I'm afraid.
  • Sep 18, 2011

Awesome. See if the Prius you rent comes with or can come with a navigation system. That might help. City Beach is about a mile from the factory and the address is

Also, if you're coming from your hotel, someone there might be able to print out a map for you.

Holy crap, TEG's Leaf looks like a mini-van compared to the Roadsters. Of course the fact that the Roadster is so small is what gives that illusion.
