dcohen I was ready to order it until I read about the need to rebalance. Is that from your experience? The website says it's not necessary. Thanks
Does FOBO Tire Plus affect tire balancing?
FOBO Tire Plus sensor weight is 10 grams each but extensive testing has shown a maximum deviation of 5 grams on the wheel balancer. Typical wheel balancing equipment in the market has a resolution of 5 grams as well. The deviation of 5 grams are to be considered acceptable and there is no need to rebalance the wheels after installing FOBO Tire Plus. This is in line with our tire experts.

swengl I know it's not an accessory, but if you are interested in protecting your paint, look at the various "treatments" available (I went with Opti-Coat Pro+ on mine and it looks fantastic). Also, the 2 bucket method for washing is a must, it saves on water usage and helps reduce the potential for scratching while you clean the car. The Heatshield (windshield sun visor) is a must have if you live in a place that gets hot. I keep a small bottle of glass cleaner and a clean microfiber cloth in the trunk, the wipers tend to smear bugs and make visibility worse. I bought (and like) the replacement LED bulbs for the plate lights in the tailgate. And last, but not least, the all weather mats: I bought the front mats from Tesla and the second row/trunk mats from WeatherTech (they were slightly less expensive than the Tesla and are practically the same thing). Enjoy customizing your ride!

4us2bev How long do the batteries last? I recall someone posting they need to be changed every couple of weeks, which seems like a major hassle.
Any problems with the self-stick tape actually sticking?
On Amazon, there are two brands to choose from -- OxyLED and Hallomall -- which did you get?
Thanks!
-- David
Jul 8, 2015
thecloud Mine are the Hallomall-branded lights, as I linked to in my original post.
I think the battery life directly depends on whether you leave the parcel shelf in place to enclose the trunk space. If you don't, and you forget to stow the lights away when the parcel shelf is removed, then it's quite likely that they will come on all the time and the batteries won't last. I'm still on my original set of batteries from when I installed these lights 7 months ago. However, I've driven around with the rear seat down and no parcel shelf for several days at a time, and last night I noticed that the lights are now a bit dimmer and the batteries need replacing soon.
As for the self-stick tape that comes with the lights, it seems to be hit or miss. Both of my trunk lights initially fell down after a few weeks, since the adhesive just wasn't sticky enough to keep them in place. I got a roll of 3M double-sided automotive tape to reattach them, and they've now been up for 6+ months with no sign of weakening. But the one that I stuck in the frunk's microwave area is still in place with the original sticky tape, so go figure. (It's probably because the plastic surface in the frunk is smooth, whereas the plastic under the parcel shelf rails is textured and I failed to clean the surface with rubbing alcohol beforehand.)
Should have mentioned that the lights are removable... you're actually just attaching a thin magnetic strip to the parcel shelf rail with the double-sided tape. The lights are in a metallic enclosure that also holds the batteries, and the whole assembly is held on securely with the magnet. When I need to fold the seats down, I just pop the lights off and wrap them in a towel (which you can see tucked away in the side well in my picture)... assuming I remember to do that.
It's obviously not as good as an integrated LED light that wires into the car's electrical system, but it's super easy and cheap, and makes a huge difference at night or in a dimly lit garage. I've had several compliments specifically on the trunk lighting from friends who didn't realize it wasn't standard from Tesla.
Jul 9, 2015
mbaier I use the exact same solution. I have now used them for a month and have not yet had to replace any batteries. I expect them to last for a very long time as the timeout is set at 15 seconds and the PIR sensor most likely only uses a very small current. Mine did cost 9.90 USD per item with free shipping. I have two of them installed in the trunk, one in the frunk and one on the bottom of the lid of the "deep trunk" compartment.

Cyclone I bought two strips from SuperBrightLeds and wired them into the existing infrastructure of the car. Super bright and turn on/off with the rest of the lighting.

Cyclone Very easy install in the trunk. Took me maybe 15-20 minutes. I haven't done the frunk yet, but I have the supplies. I went a bit overboard. I put a 20" strip under each mount rail for the parcel shelf. I used positaps to easily provide power and borrowed power from two footwell light points in the trunk.

scruzloose33 Your picture makes that mount look really low profile (1-2" mount arm), but the pictures on Amazon make it look like the mount arm is 4-5 inches long. I am looking for a very low profile suction cup mount (worried about 3M tape marking up the piano black finish if I remove it) that I can put in the same location. Any suggestions?
Jul 15, 2015
pete8314 The 3M VHB tape will not mark your piano black finish as long as you're careful when removing. I've removed our mounts from most of the finishes (incl. piano black) without any drama. The best option (and useful all over the car if you need to pop panels are these plastic pry tools, but for something so small like a phone holder, just 'saw' it off with some dental floss until the bond breaks, and then any remnants you just roll off with your thumb.
Jul 15, 2015
Cyclone Mine is NOT a low-profile mount, which I am enjoying. It uses a suction cup that has held for nearly two months, trouble-free. I don't think I would mind a low-profile mount though. For that, I would use Pete's.

Jul 15, 2015
russman Thanks Andy, I did read it, but was confused by the high cost of retooling. Still not quite sure how this would be better then the led strips that are integrated, but I guess we'd have to see it, but at around $27 for 3 bulbs, it's not bad, but I don't see how it can give the lighting coverage that the LED strips provide from those spots. Also, lots of people don't have the light outlets to replace just the bulb in the trunk. So I guess we'll see, but for about the same price, the LED strips seem a much better solution.

Jul 15, 2015
pete8314 I currently use a Duracell lighting strip (with a PIR sensor); it's bright, likely brighter than the replacement bulbs will be, but it's not plug and play, it's not 'factory', and it requires batteries to be changed. It's also my second one after the first died (came from Costco in a pack of 2). The bulbs will be a simple, like-for-like replacement, but much brighter. There's other options that require a little, or a lot of effort, just depends on how much effort the customer wants to put into it. My tooling costs run to several thousand dollars to ensure the plug (and the rest of the light module) are exactly the same as supplied with the car.

tliving Thanks for the reference. Even with the close cost now between the HPWC and the second UMC I think i'd still go with 2 UMC's for 2 reasons:
1) I don't need the speed of the HPWC at home. The UMC is more than enough. Charges my car up for my daily use in 3-4 hours. (I drive ~100 miles a day)
2) If I ever do a really long road trip i'd want to have 2 UMC's with me (N+1). On my short NJ/MA trips I'm ok without taking both but if I go further from home i'd really want that backup. And yes, I've had a UMC fail completely on me (replaced for free thank goodness).

David29 As for floor mats, I am thinking of getting Coco mats. We have them in our Mercedes Benz E class now. They look better than an all-weather floor mat, but admittedly do not hold up quite as well in ice/water. But we find them a good compromise. (You can brush dirt off with a stiff brush, and even wash them.)
Here is a link to the manufacturer's site.

I called them -- they have mats for the Model S and are sending me samples of the various colors I might like so that I can look at them with my car (once I get it) and choose what will go best.
They have wool and other fabrics as well as the traditional European-style coco fiber.

- Anker 9.6A / 48W 4-Port USB Car Charger with PowerIQ Technology $14.99
- Anker [5-Pack] Premium Micro USB Cables in Assorted Lengths (3ft, 6ft, 1ft) (cables for the above) $12.99
- SanDisk Ultra Fit 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive $44.99
- Silicone FobPocket for the Tesla Model S (Blue) $10.99
- CHAdeMO Adapter $450
Highly considering the Fobo Tire Plus set too. For those who did get it, which color is the right one to get? I don't have the car yet to look up close at the wheels up close but I think the silver would be the right match?. I'm getting the base 19" wheels with my car.

Sep 12, 2015
Urgo I ended up ordering the Silver Fobo Plus's last night. I imagine they work similar to a old fashioned pressure reader. They get screwed onto the fill valve so they constantly can measure the pressure pushing out of it. They then wirelessly report their readings to the in car unit which your phone connects to via bluetooth to get the data. At least that's my understanding. According to their website and other people who have posted you do not need to get the tires re-aligned. I'll have to let someone else answer the color question for those wheels.
Sep 12, 2015
Andyw2100
I'm not sure what color sensors would look best with grey wheels.
And yes, Urgo's description of how the system works sounds about right. A new feature is also going to let someone not with the car get the pressure readings from the car, as long as someone else is actually with the car. The data will be transmitted via the phone's data connection. It's already available in the iPhone version of the app, and should be soon in the android version.

I selected the expedited shipping for $20 which turned into an hour long back and forth with fedex today. Got woken up by them asking about what the product was and they originally categorized it as a vehicle safety item and sent me a scary looking HS7 form to fill out for US Customs. After exchanging a few emails and showing them the website they changed it to a FCC Form 740 which basically just puts in writing what fobo has on their website, that though it does use radio frequency it complies with the FCC.
