austinEV o Window tint. It makes the car look so much better and makes reduces heat gain to very low levels.
o Frunk storage box from Tesla (if you are getting a non-D). I love mine. I put in all sorts of seldom needed items like first aid kit, glow sticks (I end up giving them to kids at parties and replacing them but handy), a cheap tool kit for relative's honey-dos and bike repair, even a survival kit with knife, matches, water. I even through an MRE in there and that still leaves HALF of the space in that box.

CHG-ON As a guy, I love the center console insert. It cost way too much, but I am really happy I have it. I also got the frunk organizer for the microwave. But that won't work for a D model.

Shortmanz 1. USB flash drive for music. I got the Sandisk Cruzer (USB 3.0) from Amazon. It is very low profile and looks pretty good. I don't think the car supports USB 3.0, but it helps when copying files from your PC. http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-Low-Profile-Flash-SDCZ43-064G-G46/dp/B00LLEODCK
2. Charging adapters: You may want to get the Tesla NEMA 10-30 plug adapter to use if you need to plug into an older-style dryer outlet. Unfortunately Tesla has apparently discontinued the NEMA 14-30 adapter that is used for newer dryer outlets. You can also make your own as shown here:http://cosmacelf.net/Home%20Made%20Adapters.pdf

David99 Get an account with ChargePoint, Blink, eVgo, SemaCharge, Greenlots. Just in case you end up having to use a public charger.
I would definitely get the CHAdeMo adapter. L2 charging isn't really making any dent unless you park your car for several hours.
A tire repair kit is really important. I had several flats with all my cars. After trying different ones, this one works the best for me Amazon.com: Dynaplug 1007 Tubeless Tire Repair Kit: Automotive
I also got a bottle of 'Slime' tire repair and a small 12Volt compressor. Of course you want to have a jack and a lug nut wrench.
Never needed dual chargers. There are very few L2 chargers that support more than 32 Amp. At a hotel you can charge all night, so there is the least need for a faster solution. Same with charging at home.
I would get a dash cam. You will hopefully never need it, but in the case of an accident it can make a huge difference. People almost always "bend the truth" when they are in an accident. Even better, get one for the front and one for the rear.

Kickin I agree with the "looks so much better" factor of tint, but I've been wondering about getting it on my Tesla. Living in upstate NY with the winters we have, the sun could actually make a difference to heat the car. If it is sunny and cold out, I'll park my leaf on the top of the parking garage, it warms up nicely for the ride home, unless it is sub zero out and it's just too da*n cold out to make any difference!
May 17, 2015
Andyw2100 If the OP is getting a D, believe it or not Tesla still has not made the all-weather frunk mat to fit the D, and as of a few weeks ago, the rep at the accessory store wouldn't even give a vague distant future date, (as they have been doing for the center console.)

thecloud The Tesla compressor/tire repair kit is a must-have accessory, assuming your car didn't already come with it in one of the states where that's required. Thankfully I've never needed to use tire repair slime, but I do use the compressor at least once a month to maintain proper tire pressure. (I have a separate tire pressure gauge which I picked up from Amazon to check the pressure first, then break out the compressor if it's low.)

DavidB If you plan to use a HPWC that is configured to allow more than 40 Amp, then yes, a dual charger will speed up your charging. However, there will be no improvement in charging speed when using the Mobile Connector or the J1772 adapter.
--
Also: The dual charger only doubles the range per hour of charge when using an 80 Amp HPWC. If using a 60 Amp HPWC, the range per hour of charge will only be 1.5 times as fast as when using a single charger.
--
I do have the dual charger option, and there have been a few times where I've appreciated having this accessory. However, for almost all of my travels it has turned out to be useless, and when I'm home I don't need the fast charge because my car will be fully charged overnight on a slow charge.

Sorry to jump on the OP thread and ask a question.
May 18, 2015
HankLloydRight The Tesla UMC is limited to 40 amps, but I'm fairly certain that the J1772 adapter can support up to 80 or 100 amps if the charging station delivers that much. These are much more common in Canada than the US... but it will still work at more than 40 amps, at which point the dual-chargers will improve charging speeds up to 80 amps.

Barry I've had my car about 6 weeks now and I haven't tinted the windows. Even though it's very sunny here (except for the last 2 weeks, where we've exchanged weather patterns with Seattle), my feeling is that it takes a lot more energy to heat the car in the winter than cool it in the summer, so for now, no tint. Canuck Yes. I've charged at 70amps with the J1772 adapter, on Sun Country EVSE's which are common up here. I've never seen 80amps EVSE's but if there were, it would work. 100amp wouldn't work since the maximum with dual chargers is 80amps (2 x 40amp chargers).
On the center console issue, I thought I couldn't live without one, and got on the waiting list when I got my car, where I sat for about 6 months until it was available. By that time, there was no way I wanted it. I learned to live without most of the junk I had in the one in my other vehicle, and I love the open floor space. The rest of the junk I think I need but don't really use fits in the glove box. I had also bought the GM cupholders in another thread here to deal with the cupholder issue and they look stock and fit great. When I see a car with the console it looks crowded and confined.
May 19, 2015
chriSharek I haven't seen the High Powered Wall Charger (HPWC) on this list. I think that's a must - particularly for a dual charger vehicle. I've already got my breaker, conduit, and wire run for my install later this summer and I'm not planning on getting dual chargers.
From what I understand the NEMA 14-30 plug is not meant to be plugged and unplugged from the socket daily. If you have a garage and can leave your plug there from your UMC set, that might be fine, but I think it charges at a lower rate than the HPWC (single charger, @40 amps, 29 miles/hour charge; dual charger, @ 80 amps, 58 miles/hour charge). Again, for a single charger @ 29 miles/hour charge - that's about 9 hours or overnight from close to empty to full.
Other "accessories" to me would include window tint here in Sunny FL!
May 19, 2015
HankLloydRight This is a TMC urban legend. I don't know where/how it started, but the NEMA plugs and sockets are certainly heavy-duty to be plugged/unplugged thousands if tens or hundreds of thousands of times. The 14-30 and 14-50 components are 100x beefier than your everyday 110v plugs and sockets used in everyday appliances. And how often do they fail?
Also, even if this was a real thing, if you have a UMC for charging in the garage, it usually just stays plugged into the NEMA socket, it's not plugged/unplugged daily.
I'm not sure if you're asserting that the UMC and HPWC charge the car at the same rate, given the same amperages. The UMC is limited to 40 amps, so dual chargers don't help at all in that case. But if a HPWC only delivers 40amps, it's no different than the UMC.
Also, I think very few people are draining their cars to near zero every day, and charging to near-full overnight. That's an extreme edge case. I have a NEMA 14-50 (which I plug and unplug all the time without incident), and if I plug in at night, it only takes an hour to three to recharge up to the limit I've set. So unless some owner is driving 200+ miles every single day, and has less than 8 hours to recharge their car, the 40amp UMC on a NEMA 14-50 works just fine.
OTOH, the HPWC looks much cooler if you have the $750 to spare.
- - - Updated - - -
Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that one could charge at 100 amps, just that if the EVSE is a 100amp service, it's still usable (up to 80 amps) using the J1772 adapter. But thanks for clarifying that incase I was unclear.
May 19, 2015
electricBear Picked up the HPWC before the car arrived, even though I have just a single charger. Future proof and wanted to be able to leave the UMC in the trunk.
Note that your mileage (heh) may vary depending on you line voltage (W=V*A). Substation is about a block from my house and a town park/garage is down the street past me. I see 245v to the car @ 40A and it is charging at 39miles/hour according to the dash. 9.8kWh on the 10kWh charger. This is a full 100A circuit.
May 19, 2015
HankLloydRight I think you mean kW not kWh.

gzerninplatz Get a 50' heavy gauge standard 110v extension cord...as a "last resort", you will always be able to find a 110 socket...and when visiting friends for a few days, you can charge up plenty...
I'm going to be traveling off the supercharger grid, so I just ordered (from EAVESadapters) a 10' 14-50>14-30/14-50, will work as a converter or 10' extension for the 14-50, and also a 14-50>10-30/10-50 short cord...dryers/ovens or RV parks with only 30 amp available, now got it covered (mostly). mknox I bought one of these NOCO Genius Boost boxes. It's quite small and light and I figure if my 12v ever goes dead, this would be perfect to boost it to get the car out of Park and ready for towing. I've already used it a couple of times to boost other ICE cars with dead batteries. It also has USB out to charge phones, tablets and such and has a built-in flashlight. I also keep a plastic trim pry tool to pop the nosecone off.
I also highly recommend the Tesla Dual Charger option. In my area, there are tons of 70 and 80 amp J1772 stations, and this option can cut your wait time in half.

Cyclone After seeing this post, I looked at the item on Amazon and decided to purchase it. Put it in my trunk footwell last night and this thing is amazing! It's a perfect size. It just tucks under the beams on the sides of the footwell before you reach the "cubby" area on each side. The height is perfect that the footwell cover closes as normal. The depth is just right to cover the full area except for the sloping edges. Combined withe movable dividers, this is now a must have accessory! Mine is empty right now, but I will definitely make good use out of it!

Khatsalano - HPWC and charge cards/charge network accounts are a must to me. The HPWC is too sexy and convenient not to get.
- Tinted windows is really nice for the aesthetic and the thermal/visual benefits, but not everyone is into it. I think it makes my grey on grey MS look like the Batmobile.
- Dual chargers: I have this from the factory-installed era ... and I love it, but I've only "needed" the faster charging rate maybe 2 times so far in 9,000 miles. In almost all scenarios, 40A charging does the job overnight no matter what. Superchargers take care of the rest. I would say this is a "would like" but not a "must have."
May 22, 2015
kuttakamina Sorry for the dumb question, but if you don't get Dual Chargers, the HPWC is pretty much useless, isn't it?
May 22, 2015
Cyclone Just to mention that tinting is available in a variety of shades. In my area, I know of at least one local detailer who offers a ceramic tint (thermal benefits) that lets 80% of light through. The base windows with the Tesla are already at this level (unless the previous owner of my CPO tinted the windows - which is entirely possible). My neighbor got "Air80" on all windows and it made a big energy difference without making the car look dark.
- - - Updated - - -
Not necessarily. Some people, like @tliving, do not want to pack/unpack their UMC every day. He went down the road of buying a second UMC, but now that the HPWC is only $100 more expensive than a UMC (it used to $1,200), some people have opted to buy the HPWC even with single chargers so they can leave the UMC in their car. It really depends on your use case.

mknox Not really. You can set the HPWC for lower currents if you don't have the circuit capacity in your home. I do have dual chargers, but only the capacity for a 50 amp (40 amp continuous) outlet in the garage. I was considering a "spare" UMC so I can leave one in the car, but for $100 more, I might just go for a HPWC with the dip switches set for 40 amps and then just leave my existing UMC in the car.
FWIW, I take advantage of my dual chargers almost daily at 70 and 80 amp J1772 stations, including at my office.
May 22, 2015
chriSharek MKNOX, I'm completely with you. The HPWC is a permanent install. I have a carport (the wife gets the garage with the convertible). So, leaving my UMC plugged in all day when I'm not there just isn't a good thing.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but with a 50 amp breaker/40 amp service, the HPWC charges at 29 miles/hour. Can the UMC provide that same level?
May 22, 2015
Cyclone Yes, as can any EVSE outputting 40amp. I didn't mention mileage as that will also depend on voltage at your house, but again, would be consistent between the HPWC, UMC, and another EVSE.
May 22, 2015

On the inside of both sides are three pockets for miscellaneous stuff. On the outside of both is a mesh pocket. In the back is a zippered bay. On the front is a "flip panel" to reinforce the strength of the barrier to the cup holders. The taper of the bowling alley causes that extra flap to flex, creating an extra pocket area. Plenty of room, a hidden area (zipper in back), and sections to store loose stuff. Another great purchase especially now that I can't get a center console in Obece.

May 22, 2015
Cyclone I've used it, but the routing of Waze is growing on me. In my prior car I used Apple Maps and Google Maps for the times I needed it. In anticipation of the Tesla, I used Waze a bit to get used to the interface and its personality. While it still sometimes makes some odd routing decisions, it has been by far the best when routing me around traffic. As such, I've continued to it from my phone rather than use Tesla's NAV and have the Waze incidents site up on the browser.

So, I'm installing an HPWC for permanence and convenience. The UMC is called a "mobile" kit for a reason IMHO.

Cyclone My 4Runner has a built in frame that swings out in the back seat from the front center console (under the rear center vents). It allows for a regular grocery store plastic bag to be spread over it as a trash sack. I got this from Amazon and put it in the Tesla today to help keep the car clean. It's nice. Has a Velcro bottom if you want it to stick to carpet (I have all weather floor mats, so no-go there), a top flap that Velcros shut to the front, has a hard bottom, a removable weight to keep the unit stable, is waterproof, and holds two gallons of waste. Also, the sides are flexible so it can fit into odd shapes. The hard bottom wedges in nicely between the seats so that it will not fall over even with spirited driving.

Sosius Hmmm. Do you think the iPhone holder would stick to the matte obeche trim?

May 29, 2015
Cyclone Sadly, while I prefer the matte obeche trim (I bought used, so no choice), I have not seen it in person to see the feel. That said, the holder is essentially a strong suction cup. Hopefully that provides some feedback to help answer that question when feeling the trim in person.

lg_golfs Ok. Just piling on the love for: Amazon.com: Rola 59001 M.O.V.E. Rigid-Base Trunk Organizer: Automotive
It fits in the footwell perfectly and the inserts are adjustable. What used to be a larger organizer filled with golf gear in the trunk of my A5 is now hiding in the footwell with much easier access.

yobigd20 The pump in the slime kit saved me a tow truck this morning. Was able to get enough air into it to drive to tire shop and get tire repaired instead of the tire getting too low and destroyed. Pulled this out.

May 29, 2015
Andyw2100 You mentioned the pump in the slime kit, but not the actual slime. Did you not use the slime? I ask because I thought I had heard that there were issues, if you use stuff like the slime, or fix-a-flat, with then being able to have the tire repaired. Can anyone shed any light on that?
May 29, 2015
yobigd20 No I didn't use the slime. I also heard that if you use that stuff it makes the tire non-repairable.
May 29, 2015
Law&Disorder Supposedly the slime in the kit will not render the tire non-repairable.

Cyclone My car went in for service today and I got a newer Model S as a loaner. When I went to move my Travel Pal into the loaner, I was dismayed to find that the yacht floor seems to reduce the depth of the bowling alley by about 2 or so inches. As such, it doesn't fit in quite as nicely as in my car. Keep that mind as it doesn't just look like a perfect fit anymore on newer cars that automatically come with yacht flooring. As such, it isn't quite "wedged" in underneath the cubby for a streamlined fit.

jbcarioca Given the topic maybe some of you have a solution for my particular fetish. I have the tesla console in my car but i also want a small trash bag. The ones I have previously used are held in pace typically by the transmission shift level, and we don't have one. Have any of you solved that issue neatly?

- - - Updated - - -
Many years ago, I worked as a tire technician....the slime never rendered a tire unusable or fixable...just caused a big mess for us technicians...Many tire dealers will say that so they can sell you two new tires.... It all depends on where the hole it....side walls are not repairable period....
If you replace one tire you should get a second one to match tread height on opposite tire for proper handleing....

pete8314 Normally I would be, but I've wrecked my foot, so excursions and product photos are in short supply...
Basically the slimline model shares the same 'ball mount' that sticks to the dash. The difference is rather than having the magnetic button on the phone, it stays on the ball, and the phone just has a magnetic disk either stuck to it, or positioned under a case (if the case is thin). This photo probably shows things better, but I'll get better photos loaded to the site as soon as I can hobble out to my car.

bollar Neat. So conceptually it might go into the Apple leather case and be completely invisible? Sign me up!
Jul 5, 2015
Cyclone Perfect! That was my biggest gripe about the other wheelie-type stands. I may have to consider this whenever my current one fails as I feel the ball mounts provide greater flexible/range of motion.
- - - Updated - - -
Thanks. Thankfully my 19s haven't needed them. At Cars and Coffee yesterday, we saw I curbed my tire, but the wheel never got touched.
- - - Updated - - -
Exactly. I have a different product I bought from Anazon (posted earlier in this thread) that's a ball on an arm with a magnetic clip like this. I put the two plates that came with it between the phone and the back of the case and it works great. I put both plates so it can "stick" from most anywhere on such a large phone. Otherwise, you might need to line up where the phone has the magnetic circle to magnet on the wheelie.
Jul 5, 2015
pete8314 Yes, that's exactly what my wife does with her iPhone 6 and Apple leather case, the disk is in-between the case and the phone, totally invisible. Because I've not been able to drive I've not tested the same set-up with my 6+, but will post an update when I can. That said, I personally like the original version, just because I can 'stick' my phone anywhere, mostly on the elliptical at the gym.

thecloud Here's a must-have accessory: vastly improved LED trunk lighting, for around $40 ($30 for the lights, $10 for AAA batteries.) They attach with double-sided adhesive tape; no tools required. The light strips are motion-sensing, so they turn on when there's any movement in the trunk area.
At night, it can be hard to see items in your trunk, because factory trunk lighting looks like this:

But with the addition of two stick-on LED light strips, it now looks like this:

The light strips attach to the underside of the plastic rails that support the parcel shelf. The third strip goes in the frunk.

neroden Tire pressure gauge, tire pump which can be powered by the 12V power outlet and has a long cord, Chargepoint card (just in case, and you don't need to put money on it as most Chargepoint stations are free), all the ends for the UMC (so you can plug in ANYWHERE), and yes, the rubber mats for interior/trunk/frunk. Trunk Midgets. Virtual Must Have. I have two of them, Midget 1 is designated as Vinny, Midget 2 is designated Geno. When someone attempts to touch Killer-Watt, They exit the vehicle and remove the intruder. Midget 2 is also equipped with advanced voice commands, and can do tedious tasks such as close charge port (for those of us that don't have the new motorized closing ports), "Supercharger Plug In", Fast Food Restaurant Visual Locator, and Pointing Out the Obvious.
I do not think I could live with out my Trunk Midgets. They are that much of a Must Have. Midget 1 was the Prototype, Unfortunately due to a Misplaced Extra Chromosome, functionality is limited, though does have a nice Bite Feature for intruders, though occasionally malfunctions, such as mis-placement of beverages, and excessive banging on interior trim.
Midget 2 was manufactured with the proper number of Chromosomes, and was included with advanced features, such as capacity to learn and adapt to situations, advanced voice commands, and is self upgrading, and performs self maintenance cycles at every supercharger stop.
