I was about to post this info myself... but I would have done it in the previous thread that already existed about the Model # Tracker. However, since you've already created a new thread... why not use it?

Well done, Paul, thanks. My data has been added.

It gives us something to obsess over during the wait.

After all, isn't part of the Telsa experience about waiting? I had a "wait-gap" (aka as actually having a Tesla) of several months after waiting for the X and then "settling" for my S. Now I get to wait for my wife's 3.

It's interesting that for a non-car enthusiast, she is excited about getting this one eventually.

Why not prioritize reservations? We all know not everyone who reserved a car is going to buy a car. So why not have an early signing period for the more serious buyer?

I had noticed immediately that it wasn't in the body of the opening post (it's the subject of the thtead) and thought that there should also be a link in the body, just to make it easier for people. But I saw the thread when it was more than an hour old, so the OP would not have been able to edit the post at that point, unless, of course, there are still less restrictive rules on first post editing, in which case he may still be able to.

Might I suggest adding Supercharging as an option - I realize we don't know where the company is with that, but I am curious to know if people would add it if it were an option.

The only date that should be completed at this point is the Reservation Date. Please do not fill in any other dates.

Everyone should complete Section 3 Configuration with what they think they will be ordering. This section will be updated once the actual options are announced (next fall).

FYI: As a temporary messure, you can log in directly after registering without waiting for the email. If this gets abused I may have to disable and go back to manual validation while my ISP resolves the email issue they are having with that server. ModelXTracker.com is unaffected.

It would potentially be more useful if the configuration choices could be seen by the public. Otherwise Tesla already knows where we all are.
  • Apr 8, 2016

    I added mine.
Could be added on map tracker the number of cars on each city? Now it only shows the last registered, we can't see if a big city has only one registered or hundreds.

    Thanks.

Maybe a better summary of the config popularity on the public dashboard?

Hi, thanks for pointing out the menu / report mismatch. I'll fix that. The reservation donut suddenly broke, and I have that on my list to fix. Sidetracked much of yesterday trying to figure out why emails suddenly stopped at my ISP. Turns out I had an overload of gmail and hotmail signups. My ISP added some extra layer of making sure my emails aren't getting marked as spam.

Record Status by week is working if you are logged in. Can you confirm once you log and and try to go to that page via the reports page it works? (I'm also aware now that the redirect is also broken). Arg.
  • Apr 8, 2016
    Rla
Yes, the Record Status by Week works like a charm, I was just thinking there was a mismatch in the menu.

Thanks for setting up the site.
  • Apr 8, 2016
    Darryl
Currently there is only minimal reporting capability within Model3Tracker.info . Over the next 18 months additional reporting capability will be added to the application including graphs and maps. Please make sure you have entered your Country, City and State information correctly so we can generate the appropriate reports by region. (For US and Canada users state is to be a two character abbreviation, i.e. CA, VA, LA, NJ, ON, etc.)

Also add what options you plan on purchasing on your Model 3. We realize this may change over time especially when the final options are announced along with pricing.

At users request some additional options have been added to the application. Keep checking your information as additional fields will be added from time to time.

We would like to get at least 10% of the people who reserved to input their information. With at least 10% we can have statistically viable reports. Tell your colleagues, family and friends who have reserved a Model 3 to input their information.

    Here are some initial statistics.

    For US reservations:

    Current Tesla Owners 20%
    Regular Reservation 79%
    Other 1%

    When/how were reservations made:

    In store before unveil 52%
    Online before unveil 24%
    Online after unveil 23%
    Other 1%

Thanks for helping make this a viable tool to track the progress of Model 3 reservations.

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but that seems like a pretty unrealistic goal. Currently the tracker includes roughly 1/3 of 1% of all orders. You think it is reasonable to think you can increase that participation rate by thirty times?

I think you'd be doing great if you manage to get and maintain even 1% of all reservations in the tracker. My advice would be to set a reasonable goal, and then increase it if you achieve it.
  • Apr 8, 2016
    Darryl
It was like with the X it took a long time before most users found out about the system. It is my understanding the numbers really skyrocketed when there was a news piece done on the ModelXTracker. After all we still have at least another 18 months to collect data and the system has only been online for just over a week.

Not that many people are aware of this site but over the next 18 months there will be more and more users every week.

Hi Paul, just a comment re: state abbreviations. The list of cities, when filtered to Australia, looks like the list below - as a result of some using abbreviations and some not.

If the same "abbreviation policy" was used as is with US/Canada, it would clean it up a bit. The valid options would be:

NSW, Vic, Qld, SA, WA, Tas, NT, ACT

Hopefully it should be self explanatory which is which of the list below, if you decide to clean up the data.

Well, that took longer than planned, but I think I've manipulated the data like you'll need.

I used a linear interpolation between each data point, as provided on the Model3Tracker.info site. The time step is about every 14 minutes (0.01 day) but I'm hoping you can plot all the points. As the years go by, that'll lead to a pretty long dataset however.

The spreadsheet can be downloaded from OneDrive here: 20160413, TM3 Reservation Interpolation.xlsx

    Here's the resulting graph: 20160413, TM3 Reservation Interpolation.png

Now I'd be interested in having a chart of reservations on the tracker. We can then use this to come up with a very rough conversion factor from tracker entries to real reservations and use that to estimate reservations from tracker entries. As (if) we get future updates on real numbers we can improve our conversion factor and even study how the ratio of entries/reservations evolves, so achieve a 'second order' estimate.

With the small sample sizes, this is probably all moot but it might be a fun excercise.
  • Apr 14, 2016
    Gerasimental
This is a really shoddy excel job, but here's a chart of submission ID against reservation date. Submission date might also be interesting to see what kind of lag there is.

    upload_2016-4-14_12-46-46.png

I think all we can really infer from this is that people who reserved on 31 March are more likely to have entered their reservation in the tracker. No big surprise there.

Hey there is another F'Burg person! So I won't be the only on in my area with a TM3.

@Paul Carter, I have noticed there are a few state entries that are the whole state spelled out, maybe you should fold those into the abbreviated list.
  • Apr 15, 2016
    Darryl
I have updated all of the Australian, US and Canadian records in Model3Tracker.info to make sure they are consistent with the standard state abbreviation code.

There are many US uses who are not providing their city or state. To get accurate reporting capability we really encourage everyone to enter this information.
