Hotwheels Model S part 2

Yup. I saw three of them yesterday while perusing the Hot Wheels at Target!

My wife found our first of the Hot Wheels silver cars and the Matchbox red cars last week. We have about 30 of the red Model S Hot Wheels, because my 3 year old son insists on carrying around "daddy's car" all the time, but it was a good find. For a while there, as Mattel was producing the Disney Cars line, we were doing all the crazy stuff like timing truck shipments, gaining friends in the stockroom, standing in line for K-Mart's exclusive releases, etc. Not so much anymore, we just wait until they pop up by surprise.

The blue Model S has just been added to the collection:

    Nice!

    Where did you find it?
What's on the right, blue Roadster Matchbox????

I have a few Tesla models in my collection ... just need to find a Model X?

There is a green roadster from hot wheels as well. Have the packaging for the blue model S so we know what to look for?

    Found it at Walmart.

And the blue Roadster is Hot Wheels as well:

Sweet! What Schuco models are those? I only have the 1:43 red Model S from them...

I have two Schuco 1:43 models, the Red Roadster and the Black Model S. Now just waiting for the Silver Model X with the falcon doors.

Also have a few Tesla models from the injection molding machine at the Fremont factory ... they used to give them out on the tours ... no more.

So far, I've only located the Hot wheels Roadsters and Model S at Walmart, Target and Toys R Us. Are there any other stores carrying these, especially the Matchbox version (impossible to find so far)?
  • Feb 23, 2016

I've had the same luck, for the Matchbox I had to break down and buy via EBay ($5 including shipping...)

2 hotwheels Model S's, 2 matchbox Model S's, and 2 hotwheels roadsters followed me home from Krogers this weekend. Only 99 cents each :)

Man, that reminded me of home. Both the trip to Kroger, and the fact that you stuck that superfluous "S" at the end.

Anyway, enjoy the cars! I had to resort to eBay for mine, unfortunately.

Need a white one. Or need to paint the silver one. What paint would be best?
  • Feb 26, 2016

Get the touch up paint from Tesla :)
  • Feb 26, 2016

Hotwheels has better availability in their Tesla's than Tesla does in their touch up paint! ;)

Has anyone else noticed the Hotwheels models are not very accurate with a cartoonish large rear wing ... the Matchbox models are much better.

If you're not using Tesla's touch up paint, which is a really great idea, you want to use model enamel paints, like the ones from Testor.
  • Feb 26, 2016
    MileHighMotoring
Yes, that's always true - Hot Wheels are artistic interpretations, and Matchbox are exacting replicas.

Wait until you see the Super Volt ;)

The Hotwheels Roadster looks pretty good tho (have tons of them), but I really want the impossible to find Matchbox Model S.

There are quite a few Matchbox Model S on ebay, but not for 99 cents.

You can find these on Ebay. I was lucky. Last month an Ebay seller was modifying the Model S and producing them in White, which Mattel does not produce. I bought two of them and they are nicely done.

So when I went on a hunt for them I found all of the available types at all the stores that sell toys.

    Walwart
    Kmart
    Dollar General
Dollar Tree (was surprised here, but hey, they mark em up to 1$ and make a bit of a profit!)

Walmart tends to be the best I have found to hunt for them, because inevitably they have a giant bucket/bin with hundreds of cars in them.

By the way I fully intend to bring my collection to the east coast get-together (Past meets Future) in VA. I will happily share what I have scrounged up thus far for those interested.

So ... I went to King Soopers yesterday and found a boat load of Tesla Hot Wheels (red). I bought 19 of them. Not sure if it's cost effective to ship these, even at no markup? Doing the math, my cost is $1 + $2.60 for shipping + $0.50 for the padded envelope = $4.10. Does anyone want one for $4.10 or should I return most of these?

How much for 10 in a USPS box to 92653, perhaps something like $10 + $5?
Thanks, Gary ... PM if you wish.

Thanks a lot. I thought I just completed the set when I found a silver Model S, now I have to start looking for the fancy Roadster. (Though it is possible that one of the ones I got is, I haven't looked at it that close yet.)

Treasure Hunts and Super Treasure Hunts (more rare) will have the little circle-flame symbol on the car AND on the card along with some words placed inside the blister pack.
    Good luck!

I finally got lucky and came across the closest mini-replica to my car out there. It's sad that I've realized the hot wheels deliveries are synced between nearby stores. I'm taking a break to let others get a chance to get the new blue model s hot wheels.

Here are a list of stores I've seen hot wheels carried:
    Grocery Stores
Target (my best luck with the Tesla cars)
    Walmart
    Toys R Us
    Five Below
    Kmart
    Kohls

I lucked out today and found a blue Model S Matchbox. WooHoo!

Nice, the Matchbox matches my blue car even better than the Hot Wheels! I offered my family a Starbucks bounty for the Hot Wheels but it was I who finally score a couple. I might need to up the ante for the Matchbox version (Matchbox is more scarce around these parts; I must live in Hot Wheels territory).
  • Apr 25, 2016

Matchbox is rare around here to. The three I have found, 2) red, 1) blue, have come from the same store. None of the other stores that have Matchboxes have ever had a Tesla I could find. (Way more stores have Hot Wheels than Matchboxes.)

You guys don't leave them in the package forever, do you? They're meant to be taken out and driven (or at least photographed). :p

This all seems backward. Shouldn't the Hot Wheels modern-equivalent-of-Sizzlers for Tesla cars run on tiny little gasoline engines? ;)

I just ordered the blue Matchbox Model S. I've already got the red, and the red hot wheels. I just think the Matchbox versions look so much nicer (realistic).

Too true. The Hotwheels edition has a giant spoiler on the back, which kind of ruins the otherwise great replica. I wonder if the refreshed version will do away with it? :)

My aunt bought me one of these to "tide me over" between when I ordered my Model S and delivery. She got me the red Hotwheels version, which looks a lot like the one I ordered. My only "complaint" is that I will be getting the facelift fascia, so the nose on the Hotwheels car won't match my real car.
