Sigh. Order placed. You got me again, Tesla. I plan to keep it on my desk at work so they will have one more thing to make fun of me about. They seem to think I'm obsessed...

    I get that, too

Maybe we should ask Elon to extend the referral program to the diecast models... Would love to get a free Model X model! :)

The chrome trim isn't aligned properly on my real MS so as far as I'm concerned the die cast model is spot on.

If you got one of the first 1000, it has an A battery. Check the sticker.

And just to make the purchasing experience exactly like for the actual car, the smaller one gets hit with duty when brought into Canada. Had to pay another $18.00 when it arrived.

Hopefully everyone is protecting the paint when not gazing at it, or has a good paint protection film applied ...

I wonder how much an XPEL installer would charge to wrap this car.

    PSA Note to Owners:

The frunk cargo net will pop off if a little girl sticks her finger in there and gives it a yank. Repair will require very small needle nose pliers, jewelers screwdriver and extreme patience (which, as a parent, you already possess.)

The bottom of the cargo net has two longer & very thin prongs sticking straight down - that's the easy part. The top is held in place by two shorter thin prongs sticking toward the side and in slightly. They are a bit more challenging to seat. It might take you a long time fiddling with it. You'll be tempted to look for superglue but just stick with it.

For the record, nothing beats having a daughter. Absolutely the greatest. Daddy's toy car will be moving to the office Monday. Matchbox on order for home use.

During breakfast Princess asked if Daddy's Tesla could come home from the office for the weekend. When I got home home she asked if she could please play with it ("I'll be careful. I won't break anything and I'll clean when I'm done.")

Then she filled it with 7 teeny tiny figurines from one of her toy sets and "drove the family" all over our loft apartment. For like two hours. Then she took the microfiber cloth out of my eyeglass case and wiped all the fingerprints off. For like 10 minutes, looking at it from every angle. Future 2038 Model Y owner there. Daughters are the best.

I just got mine - looks perfect! I'm going take a picture of it using false perspective and will announce that I'm now a two-Tesla household. That will be sure to bring on parental ire, as they hate it when I spend money on anything. And I'm 46. It never ends with parents. It'll be a fun joke... :)

Yes, indeed. especially when we train them to have such excellent taste...but then we must pay for that excellent taste.

I still have not done mine. I'll have to call Pete and see how much he'll charge me for the Gtechniq Crystal Serum, the 3m and the bra too. I wonder if it will be 1/18 what he charged for my P85D? It is the same color, after all.

Turns out replacing the wiper was WAY more difficult than putting the frunk cargo net back in place. Darling daughter tore one of them off with the microfiber cloth while wiping it down.

Second trip to the 1:18 Service Center because she shut the trunk on a Calico Critter figurine which was a bit too tall for the RFS. Popped the glass in the lift back out. Custom cut of double sided tape fixed it.

She came to me all doe eyed last night. "Papa...I always tell you when I've done something. Let me tell you what I did. Here's what happened to the Tesla while you were playing golf today..."

"That's alright, Sweetheart...let's see if we can fix those things."

    Daughters are the best!

Nope. But the way she carefully places it back in styrofoam container, lays tissues to cover the body and wraps it up with lightweight paper before putting it back in the container is pretty touching.

I probably shouldn't be letting her play with it (3 repairs and counting), but I'm pretty soft on adorable people who weigh 45 pounds.

Better now than in fifteen years or so, when your first response would probably be more along the lines of "Was anyone hurt?"

I have a son ten years older; dreading the inevitable call. Wish I had never read anything about neuromaturation and the risk taking tendencies of teenagers.

Finally found a really nice garage for my model Model S (wasn't happy with the other ones that are used to display all those ICEs...) :)

The case is really well done (what I would expect for the price...) and has 3 different lighting modes. And I already have an idea how I will Tesla-fy that black bar that hosts the ground LEDs.

I'd love to buy one of these, but I can't find an English site. If anyone finds one, or this on amazon/ebay please post a link.

Ooops, didn't realize I put the japanese link there. Here you go: HOBBYLight - Miniature Track Light. Create Your Miniature Gallery
I don't think it is available via Amazon or eBay.

Ordering site is still in Japanese though - but I can PM you the e-mail address I used to communicate with them. They are very responsive, paying via PayPal, shipped to CT within 6 days or so. Cost: $120 & $20 shipping.

    Cheers,
    Rog

Thanks - that doesn't come with the case though ;)

    I want the supercharger...

BTW I was able to choose the language from the top right menu. So you can read description in English, but the order page is in Japanese only as rog explained. Thanks for recommendation!

Just got the multi coat red, surprisingly close to my Sig Red. Very cool. Now want to get the Model X 1:18 Diecast with falcon wing doors. But first need to get delivery of the 1:1 model.

If it takes the same time for the Model x model like it took for the S, then maybe sometime in 2018. But yeah, I will want to get that too!

You should go to a showroom and take some wide screen shots of the walls to put behind/left/right the car....

Just received a nice aluminum plate to put on the lower light bar of the display case. These guys at Hobbylight are great!

Yes, they sent me one of those too. Funny getting a small aluminum widget shipped all the way from Taiwan. It took me 15 minutes to find it in the package.

Hi Rog, I'm late to the party
Hi Rog, I'm late to the party. I've ordered my Model 3 and got so excited I've now ordered the scale P85 as well. You mention you had an email address you used to communicate with the guys at hobbylight. If you wouldn't mind dragging that up and sending it to me it would be greatly appreciated. Love the pics you took with their display case.
    Thanks in advance!

Hi Mosesvii - how did you get your model to Aussie? Direct from Tesla store or via a friend.

I want one in SAfrica so it might have to hop and skip here.....

I tried to buy in the UK but no Tesla store had one (or even seemed aware of it - nor did they get back to me!). Has anyone found one in a UK Tesla store?
  • May 6, 2016
    hiroshiy
I purchased thru official Tesla site, and they shipped to Japan without a problem. So I guess they can also ship to SA.

Note that the 1:18 scale car is hidden under Apparel and then Accessories on the shop.teslamotors.com page.

Yep, Hiroshiy is correct. I bought mine through the 'main' site as well and simply chose Australia as the shipping destination. I just checked, they have South Africa there so you are good to go :)
