Pics of people taking pics of Model S's part 1

bonnie1194 started an excellent thread a while back for pictures of people taking pictures of Roadsters. I thought I'd inaugurate such a thread for the S in honor of this great tradition.

Okay, so this is one of those things where you think, well of course someone on the internet is doing it, but still, I didn't expect to see a thread like this here lol.

EDIT: Cool, I never noticed those rear speakers before. That might be the first picture of those.

I posted a pic of these and the front speakers back on May 5, from the Fashion Island Store EVent. Showed the from tweeters, front center channel speaker bar, and rear hatch speaker bar.

A while back (took me a while to get around to posting this) my S was in a photo shoot for a Tesla supplier. I guess they either wanted custom shots or they couldn't get the stock photos they'd want from Tesla.
    KevinS.jpg

    - - - Updated - - -

I keep wishing I could get shots of people on the freeway. The other day a guy made about 3 full revolutions around my S by changing lanes and speeding up and slowing down to get shots of me with his smartphone. But he was too fast brining it up and down every time for me to get him in the act on mine (not to mention we were going about 75mph and I was afraid of wrecking my beautiful car).

I was stopped at a light in S #70 at Vermont & 6th in Los Angeles when I looked over and this guy was waving at me. He immediately pointed to the Tesla logo on his sweatshirt and then whipped out his cell phone! If you're on here, say hello! (I would have stopped but had to be somewhere.)

So, I was dropping off a friend at MIA today, and pulled up to the curbside at departures. The skycap looked at the car, seemed intrigued, and then peeked inside and nearly flipped out. He called over some other skycaps, and before I knew it the entire skycap staff was looking at the car, taking pictures and video. I fielded a lot of questions. One of the skycaps said, "I've seen every type of car possible at my curb, and this is the nicest one I've ever seen." I thanked him. He went on to say, "Man, I mean 50 Cent was here the other day and this is nicer than his car!" I said, "Seriously? I beat Fitty???" "Most definitely," he replied. A large woman who appeared to be the supervisor came over to see what the commotion was, and she looked inside too and was apparently pretty impressed. "Are you married?" she asked.

I let them know I might be back soon--especially if I'm ever feeling down.

    50 cent, nice

Everyone is totally blown away that has never heard of Tesla!!!
I am constantly having drivers behind me at stop lights aiming phones at me (and occasionally in front of me hanging out of a window and facing backwards!)
Not in the Bay Area though ;>

..I almost forgot driving down from Eureka, I was going about the speed limit to try and make it with a 3 hr charge. I kept getting passed by people that would get just passed me by a couple of car lengths then hit their brakes and slow waaay down to get back behind me and scope the car out. One guy did this and then started taking pictures from the back, then out of his mirrors then he finally sped back up.

In Laytonville, 2-3 miles ahead he had pulled over and parked and got out of his car to post up with his camera!!
My wife saw him waiting and looking over his shoulder for a good shot. I would have stopped if I wasn't trying to make a 310 mile trip as quick as I could

No pics ;< (not from me anyways)

He is problary norwegian(as me), the car is in the same price range as a BMW 520D, so it's not to much of a leap for us. (that is for the performance version, the 60kwh is more like a nice Toyota)

We have to pay insane high "taxes" to buy normal ICE cars. An M5 would cost about 300 000 - 350 000 USD here. (about 2 million crowns fully specced, and we trade USD for about 5.x)

Our government has given a "free-pass" for EV's until 2017 or 50.000 cars sold. (which is quite abit for a nation consisting of 5 million total)

Which is the secret why Norway has the highest reservation numbers in Europe, even though theres not that many of us :)

Our plan was to have someone in the car take a picture of the 17" screen with the backup camera on that showed us behind the car and also have someone in the back seat taking a picture of that person as well but we didn't have enough people.

Wait wait, Dave... if the original picture taker can get the picture of the person inside, taking a picture of the person inside, taking a picture of the person outside taking a picture of the original person, then I think that's an infinite loop and totally rules.

Update: there are clearly smaller collections of picture takers and at least one Model S that would be infinite. This might merit study. 8 \

I don't think it's cheating to do a self capture.
Especially if the capture is from a traffic camera, and displayed on the car's web browser.
I snapped this just Wednesday this week, as I was stuck in traffic here in Portland.
See the Model S above the arrow? That's me! (my carpooler snapped the picture while I was driving)

Didnt get a pic of this, but my 3rd day driving the MS on the highway trailing a Miata with top down, the drive pulled out his phone and held it up with his hand and was taking video of me driving behind him (with his front-facing camera). He continued to record as I passed him on the left (didn't want to be behind him for long, not being shy, but trying to avoid distracted driver only 3 days into my ownership haha).

    Model S Admirers

Walked out of the barber shop today to this:
    IMG_20130605_175701_476.jpg

So I patiently waited out of his field of view while he took his pictures. He didn't notice me for a bit. When he looked up and saw me standing there I asked, "Do you want me to open it up or turn the lights on for you?".

    "Uh, yeah!"

So he took shots in various modes/positions for another several minutes, then I gave him the tour...

Second Show & Tell today in a public parking lot.

    This is fun.

    Great story, scaesare!

I was selling my old car (finally...) a few days ago at CarMax. When I got to the paperwork part, the guy behind the counter introduced himself, walked me through things, and asked why I was selling my Miata. I said I'd gotten a new car a few months ago, and he asked what it was. I said it was a Tesla Model S. He was like "WOAH, REALLY? MAN, A TESLA!!!" He was very impressed (though I got the feeling from a later comment he might've thought it was a Roadster). My other half was surprised the guy had heard of Tesla.

I had the exact same experience! A couple of weekends ago, I was at a small grocery with my wife and brother-in-law and looked out the window to see the same thing. The guy had a pretty professional looking rig and was taking pictures of my car from every angle. I was a little embarrassed because the car wasn't clean! By the time I got through the checkout and out he was gone, so I didn't get a chance to talk to him.

In the Northeast, people seem to recognize the Model S more often than even a few months ago. You can tell by the expressions.
  • Jun 5, 2013
    Doug_G
Admirers indeed. I got a massive thumbs up and a huge grin from a passing motorist today. Some people are just SO happy to see a Model S!

Also today I met a few people at the office. On the way out one of them said, "hey, that's one of these electric car chargers". I said, "right, and that's an electric car in front of it." "What? No way! It's gorgeous! What is that???" At that point I just had to take them for a ride. They were totally floored - had no idea that such a thing was even possible. Their enthusiasm was quite amazing.

The number of people recognizing it is growing rapidly, but it's still a minority of the population. It still makes waves among people who don't know what it is.

Yeah... I've gotten thumbs up/nods/roll-down-windows-and-comment from a number of folks. One guy in a convertible Vette with a similar metallic blue... and another fun one from a guy on a Harley... he pointed at my MS with a thumbs up... I pointed at his bike with a thumbs up...

It's fun when people appreciate a nice thing for what it is without attitude... and in turn I hope by being down to earth and responding in kind it helps build the interest. The folks who'd rather do the "too cool for school" thing annoys me...

(PS- Thanks to the mods for moving my post here... forgot this thread existed)

    Toto,

Did you let M. Duval drive your car a bit?

He was extremely enthusiastic about the car in his blog, even going as far as saying he admits he was wrong about electric cars not being able to equal (or in this case surpass) their ICE analogs. There was an earlier TMC thread about this.

Can't wait to read his full review, and am happy he will likely write it, and not some numbskull "auto expert reporter" from LaPresse (you know who you are).

Honest! Anybody who's seem me at TMC Connect can vouch (I hope!). When I had the phone like that, I had a kit to mount it under the floor of my car's passenger seat, or plug it into the "bag" to carry around. I even bought an extra handset so I could leave the mounting bracket, handset and rear window antenna in the car when I pulled the "unit" out to carry around.

Time to revive this with 2 more. duPont's Cars and Coffee yesterday was a special session held in downtown St. Petersburg where there is a lot of foot traffic. So we got quite a lot of people who happened upon it rather than specifically going to a car show. It's truly amazing the number of people who have never even heard of Tesla and are shocked to find out that such an electric car exists.

Just saw this thread. Literally hundreds of expensive and custom cars at the Cars and Coffee San Francisco I went to on 7/2015. Bunch of Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Ferraris, Bugatti Veyron, Porsche 918 Hybrid, Pagani Huayra, etc.

Sadly, I was the only fully electric car there was mine. The only car of the future. I'm sure this will change over the coming years as the EV movement increases.

Since this is about pictures of people taking pictures. Here are two from this event.
