Looks nice. Think it is an improvement over the old blue (personal preference of course). Thanks Mike!

If so, I might have to take a detour on my way home. :)

(off topic, and I'm sure this has been answered, but are the HPWCs there available for owners to use?)

Loving that Blue. Have to see what else they come up with in the next year or so to decide, but that certainly makes for a pretty car. :)

Same. I'm really happy they're starting to offer buyers something other than black, white, and red variants. I bet that blue looks sharp in the sun. You can get a feeling of it in the color transition on the front quarter panel.

I had decided against the darker blue when I saw a couple in Miami, dusty and dull looking. It didn't look good as a near-black and didn't look good as a blue in that state (for my tastes at least). So then I was solely looking at Steel Gray (love how similar it is to the Lexus "smokey gray mica") and the Pearl White. I knew these new colors were coming, but I wasn't excited based on the photos I saw. But this picture really speaks to me. This picture seems like a nice, deep metallic blue and would totally go on my list of colors. I guess I will need to see it in person because the design studio's images make me want to ignore the color. If it is like this in more lighting, this will be the color I end up with!

I like ocean blue more than the original, but it's still too dark for me.

Agree. Would like a second blue closer to what BMW had for the M3 around 2003.

Better than the dark blue but still a little bland

    MC Red still my fav

Ocean Blue Comparison (pictures of both)

Just snapped these two pictures at one of the service centers. I like the new blue! But here's a picture of both for your viewing enjoyment:

I think what I like about the Ocean Blue is that there's no mistaking it for Black. For me the Metallic Blue looks black more often then it does blue. But its still a very nice color
  • Apr 8, 2015
    Griffinlair
Obviously, paint choice is a very personal preference. The reason you don't care for the metallic blue (is it black or is it blue), is exactly the reason i love the color. It seems to have more of a "personality" that changes depending on weather conditions and lighting.
The Ocean blue to me(only pictures so far) appears to be always blue, no color shifting. So i prefer the metallic blue.
Anyway, to those who wanted a lighter Blue, now is your chance to get the car of your dreams, that is better than you currently imagine it will be, and will get better over time.

I took a bunch of real-life photos of an Ocean Blue 70D next to my (sadly dirty and dingy) Opulent Blue Cadillac. Even dirty, the Cadillac's shade is a more saturated blue. But the Ocean looks great! IMG_1092.JPG IMG_1095.JPG IMG_1096.JPG IMG_1097.JPG IMG_1101.JPG IMG_1103.JPG IMG_1104.JPG IMG_1107.JPG IMG_1109.JPG IMG_1110.JPG IMG_1111.JPG IMG_1112.JPG

I love how Californians always say their cars are sooooo dirty - try living in our (Canadian) world! My car goes from detailed to looking like I went off-roading in the mountains in a matter of days. It's a futile battle! Your car looks super clean in these photos. It's all relative I guess.

    Perhaps way underwater?

You've not been to sea.....have you. I've seen the ocean in so many states of blue that I'd never know what Ocean Blue actually means.

Reminds me of home. The ocean can look like a deep blue for sure. I was slightly happy with Warm Silver, but after seeing some more shots, I'm sold on this!

Almost, moved to the West Coast of Canada almost 20 years ago. It's Brig Bay harbour on the northern tip of Newfoundland. Just came across that one when looking for a typical pic of how blue the ocean looks from back home.

Ugh. So torn. Was really hoping for something a little more like BMW's Montego Blue which looks a lot like what is on the homepage at tesla.com. But these pics look significantly darker than that. Kinda wish I had pulled the trigger on my Gray, Gray, Gray configuration before the wife saw this new blue.

So the real-world pictures tell the real story: it's just another pointless dull shade of navy. :) Seriously though, they should gauge people's interest in other more vibrant colors. Could be that nobody would even choose from the boring ones were there actually other choice (apart from the red). But then it's already a sea of boring car colors out there anyway in general, maybe that's what people really want and why they just went with the flow on their current palette.

I'm happy with the look of Ocean Blue, and that it stays blue even in the dark or cloudy weather. It reminds me a lot of the color I previously had on a Ford Edge.

I do agree Tesla should be more adventurous with colors since all the cars are custom ordered. The only reason most car companies have bland palettes is because that's what dealers find easiest to sell. You'll rarely find bright colors on a lot even if the manufacturers show them online. There is no reason for Tesla to follow this trend, and I hope the new paint shop will allow them to branch out even more over time.

I stopped at Corte Madera today on my way home from work to look at that Ocean Blue 70D in person. Even though I have never owned a blue car, and have no plans to, I thought the color looks great! Now I want to see a Warm Silver car in person.

Nice comparison. The I do like the Blue Topaz Metallic a little better (at least, that's what they called that color when the Volt came in it,) but Ocean Blue holds up very well to it - just a slight shade darker.

It's also interesting to see the contrast between the hard edges of Cadillac's "Arts and Sciences" design language vs Tesla's sleek curves.

Excuse my cross posting here (posted this is the older Blue thread but saw this thread and figured it belonged here as well).

Saw an Ocean Blue 70D tonight at the Bellevue, WA store (actually were in the mall for other reasons stopped by the store to look at the new color samples and they told me they had a blue one downstairs so we swung by). This is still at night but in the relatively well lit parking area.

Saghost, me too! Love the new blue. If you wanted dark blue or you liked the old blue, just order the black. It's about the same. :)

    - - - Updated - - -

DDarrow, why GRAY, GRAY, GRAY? That could be the most boring color configuration IMO! Really?

And I really don't mean any disrespect at all. I just can't imagine ordering that configuration - I believe this car needs to pop . . I was hoping for a burnt orange new color myself!

That's an interesting point. With the P85D, Tesla is now drawing the "look at me, I'm the fastest car on the block" crowd to a much greater extent than ever before, and the only color they have now that's at all suitable to them is the MC Red.

Some of the traditional shocking Supercar colors like you mentioned are clearly in order to draw those people. I started to name colors, but realized you've pretty much covered them - though possibly a deep metallic purple would be an interesting addition as well.

The new blue is nice. None of the pics shared look quite like the love shot on the website, though.
The two blues say completely different things to me. The original blue comes across as a more "classy" color and the lighter blue, more "sporty". Just my opinion of course, but nothing is prettier than a clean original blue model S. I have to admit, I am selfishly happy that it'll no longer be offered....I've got 4 or 5 dark blues (that I know of) in my town alone. It has to be one of the most popular colors in New England. Anyhow, my next one is either warm silver or (what the kids want) "Red Tesla's are sick dad!".

Ocean Blue??? That's a loaded answer. Depends on which ocean you're referring to. The Atlantic is a pretty true blue. The Caribbean is more of a Turquoise while the Pacific, at least near L.A. is Green!!

It is Avery Brilliant Blue Matte Metallic. You can also get a glossy or chrome blue wrap but I love how matte/satin diffuses light to make the color show more, while also protecting the paint.

    New Deep Blue Color Spotted!

Drove to the Santana Row Tesla yesterday and already saw someone test driving the deep blue rr ?ocean blue? color.

Spoke to the rep about the new colors.

It's very subtle difference but he said they do look different under the sun.

South China Sea on a sunny midday. I remember it vividly from 40+ years ago and with the bonus of flying fish launching themselves out of the faces of 8-foot waves.

Thank you for posting your fine pictures. That blue looks wonderful in the diffuse light from sun behind clouds; probably lighter and more brilliant in full sun.

That may have to wait until Tesla can open stores in Texas. :)

I saw the new blue at the Vancouver Service Center a few weeks ago. The car was newly off the transporter, and still had some of the white plastic wrap on it, but I got a flavour. The day was overcast, and I was surprised how dark the colour looked, but clearly in bright sun it is much brighter than the old blue. Like the MC red, the new blue is a very "active" colour the look changes a great deal in varying light.

I really love the new blue. That 70D you showed is pretty much what I would like to get when I can afford a Model S: 70D, Deep Blue Metallic, standard 19s, gray leather, pano roof.

The Ocean Blue looks a lot better in the sun IMO than in the showroom. I saw the Ocean Blue in the Vegas store. My favorite color is blue but for me, the Ocean Blue in the showroom does not have the rich blue hue in the sun. I ended up going with Red. Now I am anxiously awaiting the completion of the inspection and then delivery of a P85D.

Does anybody have actual photos of the new tesla model s blue?

I am still struggling with my exterior color choice. I'm currently set for white, but also like the black and the blue. It was hard to get a sense of what the blue would look like on the car and of course the SC didn't have a blue one to look at.

Take the family down to SoCal for vacation at Disneyland, and you will see a flood of Teslas on the road of all colors, including the new blue. In case you don't see one, the nearest Tesla showroom in Newport Beach has a blue one you can test drive.
