drewfaulk I just got the factory drop-in (V 1.0) console last month. It was $670 with tax. I'm thinking about selling it and buying the new one so I can get the rear cupholders. Any thoughts as to what I should ask for it? Thanks in advance!
May 16, 2016
drewfaulk Oh, one more thing: does anyone know if the new console fixes the squeaking caused by the console and next gen seats rubbing? It seems like it could be offset 1/8th inch to towards the passenger side or made slightly narrower, preventing the well-documented rubbing/creaking problem.
May 16, 2016
zambono You should wait to see one, there might not actually be rear cup holders just the 2 extra ones within the console.
May 16, 2016
drewfaulk Thanks, zambono. Good advice!
May 17, 2016
GlmnAlyAirCar I think you should as for $5 and sell it to me.
In all seriousness, I am waiting to find out of the new console is worth the premium and, if not, I will certainly be in the market for the original console.
May 17, 2016
drewfaulk I bet I'd get lots of takers at that price. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm waiting to take the plunge on the new one (until I know if it has the rear cupholders or not).

tanner Getting my new facelift model s on Thursday, if it's the same as what's found in the new '16 redesign, I'll be able to confirm/deny
May 17, 2016
drewfaulk Congratulations, and please keep us all posted! There's some question as to whether the one that comes in the new Teslas is the same as the new aftermarket one that will be offered. I believe 1 or 2 new owners have posted pictures of theirs without cupholders, with others stating emphatically that they have received word that there will be fold-out rear cupholders. I'm patiently waiting. I'm also curious if the new console will rub on the Next Gen seats like the old one does....
May 17, 2016
tanner Thank you! And yes, I'll be sure to check it out anyway.
Jun 7, 2016
RandyR As scheduled and expected, I had the new and improved center console installed today, and, YES, it includes rear seat cup holders that pop-out from under the rear seat HVAC vents. A single push causes the dual cup holder shelf to pop-out.
Jun 7, 2016
EcoBruin Can you post some photos for us?

liuping That is great news, since it means they really do exist! Can't wait to see some pics. Hopefully they add it to the order page soon.

Thanks for the update Randy!

Shdhog cant wait to see pics. definetly something i want to look into for my car
Jun 8, 2016
ArtInCT The new center console was supposed to be listed in the Tesla Gear website, but for some reason it has NOT been listed there.
The only way to have ordered it was to switch your order from the old drop in center console to the new one. Perhaps if you can call the Tesla Gear folks, they may have a way for you to order it once you see the pictures?
Jun 8, 2016
Shdhog That's kind of what I was thinking. If it looks like what I'm looking for in my head I'll see if it's possible to order. I'm not in a rush though just picked my car up last Friday.
Jun 8, 2016
SteveW25561 It's so strange we're having such trouble documenting this unicorn. I have a new MS on order and really hope it has these fabled cupholders, yet on other threads new owners are reporting the facelifted car does NOT have the rear cupholders. Showroom vehicles with the facelift also don't seem to have them either.
I didn't see a build option to specify an enhanced center console.
Lets hope the current batch of new cars and retrofits have the same rear cupholder (and not just the front under-elbow ones).

ArtInCT
Steve:
There is not a build option in the Model S Design Studio for an enhanced center console. You did not miss anything. The console we are referring to was a replacement which was only mentioned to those of us who had the old optional Tesla Drop In Center Console on order (which is now no longer offered for sale). We were given an option to upgrade the drop in to the unified console at a very STEEP PRICE. Like 2X +. In addition, there are phone recharge kits for various smart phones at a additional price.
As of now and the foreseeable short term future you are out of luck with the rear cup holders on the refreshed Model S. Many of us thought or hoped that door storage compartments AND the rear cup holder (for rear passengers) and USB rear ports might make it into the refresh but they did not. I have seen three refreshed Model S and none of them have the hidden pop out rear passenger cup holders in the back of the center console.
It is the Model X (I believe) that has the hidden pop out cup holders in the center console. So the one that is coming for me is probably like that. In any case, I have the rear optional console (on Tesla Gear) and that is a really nice console. It has cup holders and a nice storage compartment too. Mine is in Obeche and tan leather. It works really well. Once I put it in, I have not removed it as I really never ferry around 5 folks in The SILVER SURFER. Natch.

Fusion Anyone looking for a nice and inexpensive rear console on the floor that holds 2 cups and a tissue box can try this. Fits perfectly behind the center console on the floor.
Jun 8, 2016
RandyR Here's my first attempt at posting pictures on this forum... Yes, I have next gen seats. Driving today (50+ miles) to and from the Factory for a tour (yeah!) I heard no rattles or squeaks. My only issue so far is that regular USB cables seem to get jammed in the hinge mechanism. I'm either going to use a coiled cable or a flat cable that can be routed out of the rear compartment, so I can lay my phone on top of the rear compartment cover (make sense?). Rear USB ports would have been another great improvement...
P.S. If anyone local wants to meet up for a look, then just let me know...

DoubleE Seriously?! It's not an option for the rest of us?!
Jun 8, 2016
Andyw2100 Am I missing something, or is this essentially a slight redesign of the original drop in center console, with the rear cupholders added, at double the price?
I realize it is all one piece now, with the center armrests, but those came with the car, so unless you have use for the extra set that is going to be taken out of the car when this is installed, I'm not sure how that matters.
I'm not trying to be cynical. I seriously want to know if I am missing some additional new feature.
Jun 8, 2016
Wknapp0924 You are right. It is now integrated so it will look seemless, and two rear cup holders!
I stuck with the original order and took the $600 and got a dash/rear cam setup.
Jun 8, 2016
supratachophobia Ok, so where do we order this?
Jun 8, 2016
SteveW25561 Thanks for the pics, RandyR! It seems a shame that Tesla isn't already adding this to new cars with the integrated center console. The incremental cost must be quite low, and it could streamline the build process! I'll bet it gets rolled in with future updates (and with my luck, a week after I get my new MS!!).
Jun 9, 2016
ArtInCT Randy:
Thanks for the Pictures! Did you order the optional phone docking attachment? That option was mentioned in the letter.
Art
Jun 9, 2016
RandyR No, I didn't order, as I was not sure what it looked like or how it would work or if it was compatible with my droid...
Jun 9, 2016
supratachophobia Alright, so I've heard what is basically a standard Tesla non-committal response from the Online Order team.
This product is called the "Integrated Console" and it will be for sale at some point in the to-be-determined future in some yet to-be-determined trims (this just in, they are using your trim pieces and armrests that you already have to transplant, no confirmation on what happens to the extra pieces). As far as they know, there is no waiting list/wishlist to get on. Those who ordered the premium center console after the release of the 70D/75D were given the option of this Integrated Console first/instead.
Not sure if the 70D/75D/90D will come with the cupholders eventually. So far, to my knowledge, no one has confirmed sightings of rear-cupholders in demo cars as of yet.
Jun 9, 2016
Zaphod So bizarre that the retrofit center console and the current production one are different. From a design and supply chain side of things, this has to be not very efficient. It's seems like one group isn't talking to the other. Maybe there was some rhyme to the reason here, but nothing apparent that I can think of other than two different vendors and under different schedules.
Jun 9, 2016
4SUPER9 My guess is that they first created the console without the rear cup holders, then added them on. Since they are charging so much for the upgrade, they are selling the ones with the cup holders first. Future MS will have the cup holders when the current supply runs out.
Jun 9, 2016
DoubleE That's BS. I want rear cup holders.
Actually, on a potentially $100k+ vehicle, no rear cup holders was a huge oversight.
Jun 9, 2016
zambono Per my DS mine goes into production in a week, lets see what happens
Jun 9, 2016
zambono The elusive rear cup holders, clearly some form of add on which is a different color than the current center arm rest.
Jun 9, 2016
RandyR Confirmed. Yes, the technician at the local SC re-installed the armrests and a few other pieces, and I asked for my "take-off" pieces to be retained/returned to me. Upon pick up of our MS, there was large box in the back with the "take-off" pieces.
Jun 9, 2016
travwill Wow, it looks much better than the $600 drop in those of us in the past had installed. That one has thin walls that flex, the flip cover scrapes along the side on mine so doesn't open the full way now, and overall it scratches too easy and is a pretty mediocre quality product :-/
Jun 9, 2016
supratachophobia Randy, in your expert opinion....
Are there enough pieces left over to take a sawzall to the bottom and fashion a rear center console?
Jun 9, 2016
morbot Yeah, the new one looks more solid than the drop-in version I have from Tesla.
The drop-in definitely feels flimsy. The piano black surface on it is covered micro-swirl type scratches that catch the light, despite me never putting anything on top of it. The phone charger aspect of it never really held a phone in place at all for me, if the phone tipped a bit side to side it'd stop charging (micro-USB Android) and my current S7 it apparently doesn't even plug in deep enough to charge... oh-well.
Shame its $1200... but i understand the install time is probably significant compared to the drop-in. Maybe when the drop-in reaches it's end of life I'll look to upgrade.
Jun 9, 2016
wdolson The 90D ordered at the end of April and picked up on Monday does not have the rear cup holders. I have the Premium upgrade, but black interior with the base black ash trim.
Jun 10, 2016
zambono Thanks it should just be a matter of time, maybe the ones entering production now. Maybe you will need premium but I doubt the trim choice will matter. By the way they are almost there now some USBs
Jun 10, 2016
ArtInCT Good News for me.... Tesla Gear just emailed me that my on order Integrated Console shall be shipping to my local Service Center at the end of next week. So perhaps in a month or so I will be able to get it installed. Jazzed.

Jun 10, 2016
RandyR I don't think so, but I guess it all depends on how creative and skilled one is to create one from these parts. Here is the collection of parts placed together to resemble the original center area. For me, they are just going back in the box and put up on the attic for the next owner...

sorka Odd. My drop-in doesn't have any of these issues at all. The quality is just from a look, touch, and functional standpoint as the new integrated factory units (without the rear cupholders) that I've played with.
Jun 11, 2016
liuping Early versions of the drop in console had more issues.
Jun 11, 2016
Wknapp0924 I just got the drop-in installed yesterday and it is very secure and doesn't feel thin or flimsy at all. I am glad I didn't updgrade to the integrated for 600 more. This fits my need and looks great.
Jun 16, 2016
supratachophobia I wanted to keep this a secret so that my order would get fulfilled first, but.... the Integrated Console is now available on the Tesla Accessories website.
Jun 16, 2016
zambono Cheater lol
Jun 16, 2016
zambono So I'm thinking they didn't put it in the store till now because they were trying to get rid of their stock of center consoles without the rear cup holders. It wouldn't make sense to try to sell a different center to a refresh just to add the cup holders for $1200 so I am going with to go on a limb and say that cars being produced now will have the rear cup holders.
Jun 16, 2016
SteveW25561 My car is in production right now, and I think it's coming next week. I'm going straight to the back seat at delivery! Helps since I already have an MS and don't need the walkthru.

Jun 16, 2016
SteveW25561 And my DS said the new cars don't come with it. I suspect we're just on the cusp of them being slipstreamed into the factory line. Let's hope our new ones have it!!
Jun 17, 2016
zambono Don't get your hopes up, yours must have started production a couple weeks ago.
Jun 17, 2016
supratachophobia I wonder if the cutoff is the 70D? Because all the new refreshed 70Ds have the integrated console without the cupholders. Now that they are out of stock on those and finally producing refreshed 90's, rear cupholders are standard?
Jun 17, 2016
wdolson I have a 90D delivered June 6 and there are no rear cupholders. Others who got VINs a little higher than mine haven't seen it either.
Jun 17, 2016
supratachophobia Well, maybe the fact it became available yesterday means that now it will be in production cars moving forward.
Jun 17, 2016

Jun 23, 2016
Maximus8 When did you order? I ordered my yesterday and I have not heard back. Did you schedule the install with the SC?
Jun 23, 2016
supratachophobia They claimed that it would ship straight to SC and then I would be contacted. FWIW, I did not receive a FedEx notice.
Jun 24, 2016
ArtInCT I still have heard nothing new.... Was told by online orders via email that they would be shipping mine out to the SC at the end of last week. However, no word from either the SC or Tesla yet. However I did get an email that the iPhone connection hardware is shipping out to me. I ordered that for the Integrated Console as soon as it went up on the Tesla Gear website.
Patience is a Virtue I suppose....
Jun 24, 2016
supratachophobia And good communication is foundational. I'm unclear as to why Tesla still hasn't nailed that down. I mean, your part is in a warehouse, the computer clearly shows that. They have a rough idea how long it takes to go find it, put it on a truck and get it to a service center; you know, because they've literally been doing that since 2013.
This comes back to the problem with Tesla setting expectations, which has always been the core issue. And there is a disturbing trend I've noticed where instead of trying to do better at setting expectations, they just don't set them at all.
Jun 25, 2016
ArtInCT Well I do not know about that Supra.... just got an email from my Service Center that the new Integrated Console had just arrived and I am scheduled for an install on July 5th! I suspect it was shipped East by truck, not Fedex or UPS.
Very happy about the fact that it is finally here. I also received an email from Tesla that my Integrated Console phone dock kit has shipped out for the Integrated Console and I should have that in hand early next week. So things are moving along nicely. I did not want my install to go on during the end of quarter rush. All those folks at the Service Center are very busy delivering cars right now.
So this all worked out perfectly for all concerned!
Jun 25, 2016
supratachophobia Seriously? I was literally the first person to order! How did you get it so quickly?!?!?
Jun 25, 2016
Tico It's supposed to be retractable. Did you try pushing on the rear console for the cup holders?
Jun 25, 2016
zambono We are not aware of anybody with a new S who has the rear cup holders just yet. Mine went into production the same week a user received their console from the store which had rear cup holders. It finished production a couple days ago, so we will see what people are receiving now but I doubt I have them.
Jun 30, 2016
ArtInCT Just received my iPhone adapter kit for the new Integrated Console via Fedex. Total turn around was about 11 days and I ordered it the first day it was up on the Tesla Gear Website...
Interesting that the description on the box is MODEL X PHONE ADAPTOR.
Also this is an end user install for the adaptor, the service center does not install this part. Looks very simple to accomplish and only tool needed is a phillips screwdriver and fingers.
This is just a bit more proof (to me at least) that the Integrated Console (IC) itself is in actuality, the Model X console, perhaps exactly the same or slightly different so that it will fit the Model S. As you may know, the Console on the Model X comes with the phone adapter kit and also has the hidden, pop out rear cup holders much like the new Model S Integrated Console.
BTW, my Integrated Console is waiting for me at the Milford, CT Service Center and will be installed on July 5th. Total wait time was about 4 months as I had the older drop in console on order and took advantage of the email from Tesla to switch it to the IC promptly. I will take some photos and get them posted when the install is done.
This will be the first time that my S will be visiting the SC since new. Nothing for them to do. She has been running perfectly.
Last but not least, here is the instruction page for the kit...

Jun 30, 2016
zambono No new model S's have the rear cup holders as of yet.
Jun 30, 2016
supratachophobia Integrated Console being installed as we speak. Review/constipation/pictures to follow this evening.
Edit: That should say comparison. Leaving it as written because potty humor makes me chuckle.
Jun 30, 2016
dohmer My SC installed the adapter and didn't give me the instructions. But it was pretty easy to figure out how it worked. I couldn't fit my iphone with my low profile case when I got it. I opened the thing up to see how it worked and realized (as someone in the forum already pointed out), the bad design means the lightning connector couldn't rise more than it should. I sanded out the bottom of the bracket that holds the lightning cable and that pushed it up enough so that my phone works with the case.
Thought i'd share this in case someone finds it useful.
Jun 30, 2016

jelloslug I wonder if the sliding lid on the new console is the same as the one on the Model X. If so I wonder if you can order the wood covered (or carbon fiber) covered version and retrofit it.
Jun 30, 2016
supratachophobia Interesting. Well I have the part number for the S, I could all about the X. Although, I think the X may have rear USB so while they are similar, they may not be interchangeable. Which, of course, seems silly to have two different part numbers for the same thing, but hey, Tesla also has 14 different batteries and 24 drive units.
Jun 30, 2016
jelloslug I wonder if you could just order the door?

4SUPER9 Right. That's exactly what I did when I received my old style console last week. Just stick a piece of a zip tie under the base of the connector. That raises it enough for a low profile case.
Jul 1, 2016
dohmer Thanks for the link Andy. I did't see your posting before. But looking at the pictures, it seems they've changed the connector a little bit.
