doofenshmirtz it never ends...once you get the car, you're still obsessively scanning the forums to make sure you dont miss out on any of the features or tweaks or the latest firmware upgrade - story of my life

Cnasty I am so jealous of all you as I have built this car about 97 times and get so close to pressing order.
Now we are talking about motorcycles, traveling, and beautiful women having Teslas too.
Thank you to this forum. Thank you.

Jun 22, 2016
Neuromancer LOL. Well said by all. This forum is the only thing that has kept me from:
1) Divorce
2) Standing outside the Tesla facility with my nose pressed against the glass
3) A restraining order being issued to protect my DS (who was initially communicative, but has now clearly gotten sick of me)
Interestingly, not everyone appreciates the purchase of a Tesla. I am the President of my company, and I have been told that when word leaked that I was getting a Tesla, some have apparently said things like "Oh, If he's ordering a Tesla, we must all be getting a raise."
Hmm, need to add:
4) Prison
Jun 22, 2016
Chopr147 I have done the same. If I come to this forum next week and have not ordered mine ? Then I should just bury my head in the sand in shameToday alone I added glass roof, subtracted sub-zero, changed the color and at least came to a decision on dual. I will get it.

Jun 23, 2016
Max* Don't keep us in suspense, are they getting a raise? And if so, I demand you to pay me a raise too!
Jun 23, 2016
STbreaker I definitely have noticed that out of cars in this price range, Teslas are the only ones that get that kind of visceral response. It's like asking someone where they went to school and they answer with an Ivy League. No matter what tone is used, it's going to be seen as boastful, when in fact it is the simple truthful answer to the question that was asked.
No one would be saying that kind of stuff if you bought a new 7 series or S class. Truthfully, I've been mostly keeping my purchase to myself for this reason. Kinda embarrassing to admit, but I suppose a lot of things on this thread kinda are in that category

Jun 23, 2016
Max* Same. I park in the far end of the parking lot so people in my company wouldn't know that it's my car.
Jun 23, 2016
Neuromancer No, in fact, beatings will increase until morale improves
That's ridiculous! It's your car... you earned it (presumably). I think you should park it up front and if anyone says anything to you, just say "Yes, but I thought it would be a bit pretentious to bring my Bugatti. By the way, do you happen to have any Grey Poupon?"

Jun 23, 2016
Max* Eh, I know I should, my wife says the same thing, but... I don't.
People who know me, know that I have a Tesla. People I'm not friends with but see on a daily basis, I don't need any judgments from them. Silly, I know.
Jun 24, 2016
Neuromancer Well, crap. Found out just now the car was in Birmingham today. Aside from being the Armpit of the South, Birmingham is also an odd waypoint when going from Missouri (where the car was Monday) and Nashville (where I wait impatiently).
The reason? The car was NOT out on a truck I was originally told... It's on a F**#ing train!
*beats head on desk repeatedly*
So clearly, there was only one thing for me to do today.
Buy some Tesla stock. Pulled the trigger today... Gives me something to watch as I continue to wait. Sigh.
Jun 24, 2016
Chopr147 Other than my wife and kids I have not yet told anyone I ordered this morning. I am a little embarrassed about it and I would love to tell the world, including a FB notice. But I won't do thatRegarding the BMW. I had planned on a 5 series and am so happy I did not do it. I would have been stuck finding a way to give it back w/o losing too much money

Jun 24, 2016
GarrickS Heh, I wasn't really going to tell anyone either but I was "outted" on FB by a friend. Now everyone keeps forwarding me Tesla news articles... that I've already seen because of *obsession*.
Jun 24, 2016
Max* You and me both.
A friend posted something about low gas prices and I commented that they're higher up here, and he replied with "what do you care, you drive a Tesla" and then a bunch of other friends who didn't know started commenting on my car...
Jun 24, 2016
blacktomb I made test drives of BMW, MB, Jaguar and many sporty toys, deposited for BMW. Then I ordered a Model 3 when it was announced and thought it's no bad to buy a small toy in a few years just for fun, what a decision! The next day, I made a visit to local Tesla demo room and had a 45 minutes test drive.
Here is what happened, I cancelled my reservation (and deposit) of BMW and ordered a model S. Now I am checking the website 3 times a day though it never changed. I am 43 and this is how obsessive Tesla can make me feel like 20 years old waiting for a glimpse from a girl.

STbreaker Picked up today. Posted some pics in the delivery thread: Model S Delivery Update
I originally clicked on this thread because Neuromancer is one of my favorite books and I was curious as to what a member with that user name might post. However, the shared obsessions and semi-embarrassing admissions definitely made the wait easier. Thanks guys!

STbreaker
I actually had been enamored with the Model S for a long time and my wife finally convinced me to order - mostly because I was already pretty obsessed and talking about it all the time. During the confirmation week I actually went to drive a whole bunch of cars to make sure I wouldn't have buyer's remorse: 550 xdrive, Audi A7, Porsche Panamera. I also wanted to check out a Mercedes, but the dealership really turned me off by not seeming to take me seriously and not having any car in stock for me to drive. While I liked the A7 in particular, I just didn't find myself anywhere near as excited with the idea of owning one as I was with the Tesla. If anything, I realized that buying any of those other cars would just leave me wanting - so buyer's confirmation?
Today on the way home with the car I was super hype and excited. I'm still buzzing in spite of the 9 hours of driving I've done over the past 2 days - and I'm known for being really cool and level headed (AKA boring) all the time. Anyway, it sounds like you made the right decision. You're going to love it.
Jun 24, 2016
SD Diver Same here - the stock was basically on sale today. Got in at $190. Let's ride this up - gotta buy my wife a Tesla!
Jun 24, 2016
BigAirHarper Sooo I'm only 28 but I've been drooling over the S since my first ride in a P85 3 years ago. Wife and I have finally worked hard enough to get one, so I join all the other addicts here for some reassurance. Our new 60 still hasn't hit production yet. Definitely the closest thing I've ever felt since being a kid at Christmas morning.
Congrats flyingdoc! What type of flying doc are you? Dentist and a pilot of the mighty 172 here. Trying to upgrade to a Cirrus soon tho.
Obviously not enough people on this forum watch GOT or else thIs would have gotten 50 likes. Ours is Pearl White too so trying to come up with some clever GOT references.
Jun 25, 2016
Neuromancer Same... Got in at $190.
Now I'm looking a solar, rocking Tesla gear (which makes me look like a total poser when I drive the family Caravan... Model X in my future).
Buying stock.
Tesla truly is the energy gateway drug.

Neuromancer YES YES YES YES!!!! Pickup scheduled for tomorrow at 4:00!!!! So excited... giddy like a schoolgirl. Pics to come in this thread and the delivery thread.

Neuromancer I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!!!! In an obsessive, unhealthy, "HER" kind of way.
My wife has started checking my phone for nude vehicle pics.
My kids have started drinking to compensate for loss of their father's attention.
I lost my job for incessantly staring out my office window, pining for my next electric fix.
I have an appointment to get a red "T" tattooed on my forhead. Twice.
I have my checking account set to autodraft directly into Telsla stock.
Ok, not really, but you get the idea. Please no one post critical comments about paying attention to my kids... Just a joke.
I didn't get great pics at pickup, so I'll get some and post his weekend.
Fit and finish are perfect. I drove about 500 miles yesterday, including long stretches of AP, and the vehicle performed flawlessly.
On the negative, I got zilch for swag at delivery, which hurt my feelings. Oh well.
Jun 30, 2016
Joules Verne I've been looking at Telsa porn for years. Thanks to all those on this forum posting their pics. Now that I have my own, which I can have my way with, the need for that has subsided.
That said... Post pics

STbreaker Hello Tesla support group,
I've been loving the car and keep finding reasons to go sit in it even at home. I did have a few "firsts" the other day.
Happy to say that one first I haven't had yet is the dreaded "range anxiety." Work is 25 or so miles one way and most any place I normally go to is under 10 miles away, so I don't even pay attention to my battery level most of the time. If for some reason I was driving back and forth between Detroit multiple times in one day, a quick stop at the supercharger could replenish my range quickly if needed.
- ICE revver - a guy in a Dodge Charger rolled up at a light and started revving. I think he had an automatic so he had to put it in neutral to do so. Since I don't have tints yet (going tomorrow morning), I did my best to just act like I couldn't hear him. Actually if I hadn't been riding with the roof open, I probably wouldn't have...
- Gawker - The next light after the revver, I saw people in a car behind me kind of tilting their heads and pointing. When the light turned green, the car changed lanes and rocketed past me so that when we got to the next light they could look at the front.
- Rock chip scare - My xpel appointment isn't for like a month (since Tesla's are so hard to buy in MI, there aren't a lot of places that have dealt with them before). Thus far I haven't removed the front plate bracket because I'm worried that section will be the most ripe for rock chips until Xpel happens. I was driving to work and I started to hear what sounded like sand/dust. I look further up ahead and there is a construction truck driving with hazards on. I immediately change lanes to the left and floor it. I usually drive 5 above the speed limit, but I was going 90 (20 over) at this point. On the way past I see there is gravel trickling out of the back of the truck which gave me a mild panic attack; switched to autopilot to collect myself. There are a few bug remains across the front from all my highway driving, but I didn't see a chip yet.

Jun 30, 2016
Chopr147 Right now I am that gawkerI revved my Yukon but you ignored me
And then blew past me! I don't know yet if I will get the Xpel. Seems more expensive than fixing a few chips along the way.

Neuromancer Bummer.... still haven't stopped grinning with Shadowfax (yep, that's what I went with).
Although, this AP fatality story has me bummed... you KNOW the critics and competitors are about to come out of the woodwork on this one.
Jul 1, 2016
Chopr147 When your life depends on oil or gas cars? Every Tesla minor mishap will be dissected and attacked.
This one was NOT minor! Sorry to hear of a death in this case but , like in these situations the human element will be drowned out.
Jul 1, 2016
Science fan I have experienced just about every symptom described in this thread (and I'm 72). I picked up my new S70 Sunday. The car seems perfect, without any flaws that I could detect. Charges to 237 miles, rather than the promised 234. I will not complain. Autopilot is awesome on highways. The adaptive cruise control works great on the avenues. Little tricks to be learned, like disconnecting it when coming to a light where all the other cars are already stopped (it will wait too long to begin braking). Very, very excited. About to take first road trip from Boynton Beach, Florida to Sanibel Island, with a stop a the Fort Myers supercharger. This car is the best I have ever even been a passenger in, let alone owned.
Jul 1, 2016
Chopr147 Congratulations and good luck! I cannot wait to be in the same "boat"as you in August! To own and drive the "best car ever made" will be awesome!

Also, need more info/pictures of this garage job!
Jul 2, 2016

I'll give some more garage details then too. Thanks!

BigAirHarper Car looks great man! Can't wait to have our pearl white in the stable. We are thinking if naming her Khaleesi.
Jul 2, 2016
Cnasty Love the white...my wife refuses to move from the black.
Looks fantastic!!!
Jul 3, 2016
Science fan Back from my trip from Boynton Beach Florida to Sanibel Island. The predicted miles precisely matched (to the exact mile) the actually experienced miles. I kept the speed to 65 most of the way. Charged to 237 and had 82 remaining when we arrived at the supercharger. My first supercharger experience and I was a bit concerned because I had never done it before. Eight bay supercharger was without other cars charging and hooking up could not have been simpler. My S70 drove flawlessly for the entire trip.
Jul 3, 2016
Chopr147 Happy to hear that. One of my concerns of course is how accurate the predicted miles are. I might have a problem doing only 65 though

Jul 4, 2016
Jlwine Neuromancer,
Thanks for helping lower my anxiety, not only by starting this thread, but by your humor which made me laugh out loud (actual not figuratively) several times thought.
If your travels ever bring you to Indianapolis, please let me know as I feel I owe you a beer and we can exchange Tesla pictures and stories akin to two new middle aged first time fathers!
Jul 5, 2016
Neuromancer Thanks Jlwine, and deal! I get up that way occasionally, I'll let you know next time I'm there.
I've been away from the Pearl White Steed for a few days now on vacation. I check on him several times a day via the App. I'll have to install the cradle cam and sound monitors when I get back.
Jul 5, 2016
Science fan What is a "cradle cam?" I am thinking of getting a dash cam. Same thing?
Jul 5, 2016
Jlwine Dash camera watches your car's behavior, cradle cam watches your new born baby's behavior--so yes its the same thing.
Jul 5, 2016
Jlwine I will look forward to that.
BTW, I know it's too late, but the perfect name for your car would have been "Pearl" (think Minnie Pearl) , I mean you are even from Tennessee!
Jul 6, 2016

.
Caught red-handed, just ordered our S 60 today!

GOFORIT5 I lol'd too when I first read that. Hilarious because I envision myself doing the same had I been in his shoes and the description of action is on point.
Jul 7, 2016
Neuromancer Congrats! Now that the beast is stabled, I know that my pining was merited. Yours is too.
Sorry Jl, but not a country fan.
Vacation has been difficult. I check the Tesa App daily to ensure Shadowfax still rests easy at the proper address, and occasionally check his cabin temp during the heat of the day to ensure safety.
Obsession? No, no. Just concern.
Jul 7, 2016
Xenius Does this mean you did the front windshield too? Looks great, may I ask what the cost was? Looking to get mine tinted when she arrives in August. The tint placed I've used before said "tinting starts at 179, Because that is an all electronic vehicle 3M Crystalline would be the recommended film for that car", which of course starts at 599 + tax. Yeah, the tint on my current car works just fine and was a third the cost.
The whole "you have a tesla you must be rich" thing has already started.
Jul 7, 2016
Btrflyl8e Sounds like the one thing that garage is missing is a live feed HD security camera, so you can actually see your car from anywhere. Just sayin.
Jul 7, 2016
STbreaker After a lot of reading on these forms, it seems that the best advice is to get some kind of nano-ceramic (AKA Ceramic) tint, but the most important thing is you find an installer you trust. Otherwise, the film itself is kinda whatever. Some people insist on 3M, others have used Llumar, Pinnacle, Photosync, etc. Who knows where any of this stuff is made and what is reboxed/rebranded. Personally, I found a tint shop in my neighborhood which has great reviews and has been there for years (run by a husband and wife team). They use Scorpion Venom film - which is rumored to be reboxed Llumar, which itself is rumored to be a reboxed unknown Korean product. I had 20% installed on the sides and rear. It looks and performs great. Costs a little less than $350. I have their written guarantee that if it starts to bubble/color change/etc. just bring it back and they'll redo it or refund.
A few other places definitely were talking $500+ for 3M or Llumar. I had to laugh - it's tint man, even $300 seems kinda excessive.
Jul 7, 2016
rcarpen22 Ha ha, this is a great thread. I drive 60 miles to work each way and I think I would sooner give up food than my car.
Jul 7, 2016
Jlwine There is nothing wrong with having live HD Feed in your garage, watching your baby all day! (So says the guy who will be doing exactky that)
And for the record Neuromancer, the ONLY country I like--love, is Johnny Cash!
Jul 7, 2016
Master One Indeed, thinking about a security system with a set of cameras, one for the carport to be able to have an eye on the Tesla at all times.
Oh, and it's not that bad, just refreshing My Tesla a few times a day. I wouldn't call that obsession, but rather Tesla Fever.

Jul 7, 2016
Neuromancer No, sorry for the confusion, I did not tint the windshield... Just everything else. Got the Llumar 35 installed for $250; the guy did a phenomenal job.
I think rather than installing the HD feed into the garage, I'm just going to move my daughter to the garage and convert her room to keep the Tesa closer and safer at night.
Jul 8, 2016
Xenius Thanks for the response @Neuromancer, 250 sounds much more reasonable than freakin' 599 +tax. Like you said, it's tint, give me a break.
I'll trade to arrange for tint the day I take delivery.
Jul 8, 2016
Chopr147 Also white on order and plan on tint the first week or two. (depends if I can give up the car for an hourNo need for immediate tint. Not like its an Xpel wrap

Master One Hehe, notoriously refreshing MY TESLA several times a day already paid off! Just now a new button "Confirm Now" appeared at my Model S order, which I have placed just 2 days ago in the local Tesla Store.
Is that cool or what? Order already confirmed 2 days after ordering, our Model S is now in pre-production phase.
These are the small things that make you smile, still, being in Europe it's the long wait when our Tesla will be on the ship. Estimated delivery: End of September - October.
I think I'll post a new thread about my experience with Tesla so far, once I have some more time.

To recap:
What's up next?
- Ordered 2 days ago in our local Tesla Store - CHECKED
- Confirmed order today - CHECKED
- Estimated delivery window shown - CHECKED
- DS assigned - CHECKED
- VIN assigned - CHECKED
Oh well, I'm going to collect my free Tesla Hat from the local Tesla Store next week, which my Product Specialist was able to negotiate with her Store Manager.
YES, LIFE IS GOOD!

Jul 8, 2016
Cnasty Definitely a European thing as they may be trying to expedite your orders and cut time where they can as that is definitely not on any US orders I have heard and its not on mine. Rats!!!!
Lucky you and I hope you get it soon!!
Jul 8, 2016
Neuromancer Congrats! I had the same thing here in the states. I was able to confirm after just two or three days. Made me smile too. And then just fed further maniacal refreshing of the page.

MrLunch Wake up, check phone... nope, try desktop... nope, hey, wife has an ipad someplace, be right back...
Jul 10, 2016
STbreaker Ahh the ups and downs of fatherh... I mean ownership
Ups:
- I went in to Detroit to visit my grandmother and was getting a lot of waves, thumbs up, and compliments from neighbors. Kinda higher profile than I like, but I suppose people don't see Teslas every day.
- Was parked at work the other day and a massive thunderstorm rolled through just prior to my shift ending. Of course I had parked in the back of the lot (away from other cars), which now had about 3 inches of standing water. Instead of wading through, I summoned the car out of the flooded area to a place where I could easily hop in.
Downer:
- The driver-side door handle is already intermittently not working from the outside. Since I'm in a Tesla desert, I have to wait until Wednesday for a ranger to come out to change it.
Jul 10, 2016
javawolfpack I made a comment in another thread that I'm considering loading a plugin on the MyTesla page to refresh the page every 5 minutes for me or write a web scraping script that will email me when something changes. Don't really have time to write the script now as suddenly landed extra work, but upside is will be easier to afford the Tesla now

Jul 10, 2016
Jlwine I am doing the exact same thing--and every time I think of Neuromancer's quote "I am conducting what is effectively a manual DDOS attack on the MyTesla page" and a week after I first read it still makes me laugh. Perfect description of my actions.
Jul 10, 2016
kritlop Love the obsession! I am guilty as well as I wait for my end of July delivery on a black S60D. With a car this cool it's hard not to be obsessed. I really wish they would provide more "status" on the MyTesla page. I would love to see more detail about what is happening during the production process and I'm sure many other people would as well.
Jul 11, 2016
javawolfpack You'd think they could install video cameras along the production line and you could see the realtime video of your vehicle as it progresses through productionMind you they don't let you take photos during the tour I've heard (or at least didn't from a 2 year old forum post I read)... so unlikely this is going to happen. But Dominoes can tell me the stage my pizza is at in real time on their app/web page if memory serves (don't eat/order it myself... just recall it from an article a while back).

Jul 11, 2016
MrLunch Woohoo! 17 days from confirmed to in production!
Jul 11, 2016
javawolfpack Awesome!! Seems about average based on the numbers in the spreadsheet, still awesome to have something change on your MyTesla page I'm sureSeems some folks are only in production for 2 days too... Be curious to see how soon you get your vehicle after production (as a fellow Fremont delivery site future Tesla owner).

MrLunch I'll keep you posted

Jul 11, 2016
javawolfpack @MrLunch seems most Freemont, CA pickup folks can pick up almost immediately after it's finished. And I'd expect it might be finished before the end of the week based on the numbers in the spreadsheet. But still exciting... likely need to factor in the ~17 day to production into my timeline & make sure I have all the money for mine in place by that potential timeline

Jul 11, 2016
MrLunch I'm going to wild guess pickup next Monday or Tuesday. Want to see the factory running... any sooner I'll prolly overheat...

Science fan The following is totally true, word for word, except for the very last part.
We went out with two other couples last Saturday night. One asked if my new Tesla had been delivered. I replied that it had. Michelle then said "I think he loves his Tesla more than he loves me!" She was not smiling. Attempting to reassure her, I told her "No, sweetie. I love you both just the same." That's when she hit me.
Jul 21, 2016
Master One Not an issue here, my wife knows exactly how Tesla-crazy I am, and that I still love her.

Jul 21, 2016
CliffG I made the mistake many years ago of telling my wife that I had a computer before I'd met her and hoped it would help her to understand my sometimes obsessive behavior in that regard. Big Mistake.
I have not made that mistake with my MS, though I'm certain she can see right through me by now. And besides, she told me to just get it already - that I "deserved it" (her words!)... She's got noone to blame but herself.

STbreaker Adding to the list of things I never thought I would do, I installed a dashcam. Took almost 4 hours (most of it spent trying to get the cords through microphone area and the pesky rear rubber tube. Apparently I created a new method for dealing with the cord on the other side which I doubt will catch on. I made a slit, not a huge gaping hole. I think it will be fine as long as I don't submerge the car. After pouring a bucket of water on the hatch and going through 3 touch-less washes I haven't seen any evidence of water leakage for what it's worth.
I dropped my car (name's Lina) at a shop for XPEL and Opticoat pro plus this morning. Since MI hates Tesla, there are only a few places that have dealt with them. I've been waiting a month for this appointment and every day I've been having mild anxiety attacks thinking I'm going to get rock chipped. In the end I found 2 small ones. One on the front lip just towards the passenger side and the other on the front logo chrome trim just to the side of the T - I drive on the highway almost every day so it's pretty hard to pick them out from the smashed bugs at least
A brief dialogue from drop off:
Shop guy: "Oh it has the new front end right?"
Me: "Yes. I was worried about that flat front section getting chipped so I left the license plate frame on. Can you take it off for me?"
SG: [after checking it out] "yeah I just need to figure out how you get these weird star bolt things off..."

SG: "So it's brand new?"
Me: "Yes. I've had the car for about a month."
SG: "Have you taken it through any friction washes?"
Me: [facial expression: Through a WHAT?! You think I've been riding around in fear and then decided it was cool to roll it through a sandpaper conveyor?!]
SG: "Good, of course you didn't"
@Neuromancer you owe us some more pics/garage info! I'm sure you're too busy enjoying Shadowfax for that though

Chopr147 Man, that is a really nice color! I hate to spend another $3000 but I may do it for the same reason. Xpel will give me some peace of mind. My upstate house has a long gravel driveway and some areas I go have dirt roads. I think the Xpel is a must. OK, that's it. I just talked myself into itGetting Xpel

Dansblum Such a great thread.
My name is Dan, and I'm a Teslaholic.
I have been a fan since I first saw the roadster, then started reading. Then I test-drove a model s in 2013, and was a goner. I started saving, and negotiating with my wife. I have almost zero headroom in the S - with the panoramic roof it's ok, but I waited for the X. I read for hours in this forum and on tesla.com (I admit it - daily). Didn't initially even have a user ID, just 'lurked'. It went into high gear after the X reveal....put my reservation in a week later (October 7, 2015).
Then negotiations went into high gear. We got a new house, new back yard, two kittens, and a new puppy (and we already had a dog and cat!). And a family cruise to Canada (OK, that was a company reward trip, but I kind of counted it anyway). I will be taking out the trash with no complaints forever, and will never get another toy.... Hardest sale of my life, getting my wife on board!
Though we DO still have an old truck...when the pets need to go somewhere that's what they ride in!
And I still spend more time on TMC than any other website other than work - and that is pretty close. 2 months and 3000 miles in, absolutely worth it all. And still spending almost as much time on here...I thought it would wear off, but so far not at all...

GFORCED Hi Dan. LOL
I just bough a P85 CPO and am more excited about this car than the previous Quattrporte, S Class and & Series I've owned. Its amazing.

Dansblum Gforced,
I totally get it. My Dad is a mechanic and a true 'car guy', so I grew up around all kinds of cars. His taste is more in the classic side - he has a restored 1929 Model A. But this car is nothing like anything else I've owned or driven.
My Dad got to go for a quick ride with me when he was in town briefly. Very impressed...when he's back I'll get him to get behind the wheel...I suspect he'll be trying to find a way to justify one soon after...
