nkohlimd Starting to plan for the early spring when I will change out my tires and use that opportunity to soundproof the wheelwells and paint the brake calipers. I did a similar project on my Porsche last year and it came out great. I found it very easy to get Porsche decals for the calipers on the Ebay. Nothing available for Tesla. Does anybody have any suggestions where I could get decals for the brake calipers? Any help would be most appreciated.
Jan 31, 2014
yobigd20 yea i'd be curious about this too when i'm due for new tires. i dont think i'd go red through. perhaps glossy black with white Tesla decal.
Jan 31, 2014
skdave I can print you a few. Just e mail me [emailprotected]
Feb 1, 2014
nkohlimd Thanks so much Dave, will do.
Feb 1, 2014
rekoh I would be interested too Dave! .... plus I am intrigues by the sound proofing the wheel wells.. what does that entail???
Feb 1, 2014
skdave Looking for photo of one to copy. Can anyone e mail me a photo of the decal on the caliper?
[emailprotected]
Never mind Got the photo! Got 10 request. Keep them coming.
Need address and color you want, Red, Black, Gray. Set of four.
Feb 1, 2014
N4HHE I have almost no interest in painting my calipers, but I too am intrigued by the notion of sound proofing the wheel wells. Is obvious to me that Tesla doesn't know how to do this as well as is done on my 2009 ML320 which is quieter than the Model S at 70 MPH, and diesel to boot.
Feb 1, 2014
dennis Can you do the decals in White so they look "factory"?
Feb 1, 2014
SteveW25561 Wow! I emailed as well. Dave might regret opening the floodgates! I've been looking all over for these in case I decide to paint my calipers.
Btw, are these made with heat resistant vinyl? Even though we don't use the brakes as much on a Model S, I'd venture heat is a potential factor.
Feb 2, 2014
nkohlimd Dave
can we go 5 in a set...room for error is always nice........I think there may be significant demand.....sounds like maybe a good side business.........
Feb 2, 2014
Kenne74 I'm interested in a set of white and would gladly compensate you for your time/supplies.
Feb 2, 2014
skdave -Ok There is a big demand. I had no clue.
So here's the deal. I will print these on high temp. vinyl and I will laminate them.
I will post pictures of them. You can have black, red, gray, all with white letters.
You will need to e mail me your address and color choice. Those of you that care to send a few bucks to cover the cost after you put them on, that would be great. If you do not, no problem. Let's have fun.
Photo's later this week.
Feb 2, 2014
nkohlimd Dave
Thanks so much. Would need them in white individual letters without background - see attached pics for the Porsche. Some may desire black letters...is this doable...also sent out an email to various ebay suppliers to see if they can make them. Thanks for the generous offer......
Feb 5, 2014
skdave Here is round one. Choose red, black, gray, all with white letters.
- - - Updated - - -
We can try, but the surface of the cover is not a smooth surface so sticking may be an issue.
Feb 5, 2014
SteveW25561 It would be great to have the individual letters with no background: if we stick them on then apply a clear coat over them, it should protect it, I'd imagine(having no experience with these at all).
Btw definitely happy to pay for these.
Thanks!
Feb 6, 2014
nkohlimd Dave, thanks so much for your efforts and generous offer. I have found a supplier in Ebay who will make high temperature vinyl stickers as specified. They do these stickers for other cats and she had the logo in her online database. $7 for the set. Should receive mine by early next week and then I will post pictures and provide reference information. Hope that helps.

Feb 8, 2014
skdave I will have my art department cut and put them on clear Monday. .
This would require painting the caliper which I would not want to do to mine.
Feb 8, 2014
andrewket Of course you have to paint the caliper. Were you suggesting a sticker that covers the entire thing?
Feb 9, 2014
nkohlimd Just received the decals from eBay. Please see my link above. They look great. Will have to wait till spring in order to paint the calipers at the time of tire changeover. Cheers!
Feb 9, 2014
andrewket Are they the right size? No hints on scale in the pic. The look huge.
Feb 9, 2014
dennis I got mine yesterday as well, and they are the right size. You get 9 of them for $7.00 including shipping. I plan to get the painting done this week.
Feb 9, 2014
nkohlimd Dennis
look forward to seeing your final product. Since it is 12 degrees here in MA, I will patiently wait till warmer weather. What color are you doing the calipers?
Feb 9, 2014
SteveW25561 I checked that link on eBay but the auction images don't have Tesla. Did you ask them to custom make it? Do you think they can also do the "T"?
Feb 9, 2014
dennis I was wrong. It appears that the letters are too large for the rear caliper, although they are fine for the front. I will follow up with the seller and post the results.
- - - Updated - - -
They have the TESLA lettering script in their available images. Don't know about the T.
Feb 9, 2014
skdave I made the T last Friday in a reflective red. Also made Tesla Parking Sign in reflective red. Will post photos tomorrow from my office. I will make the tesla caliper logo in cut out letters next week, if you all still have interest..
Feb 9, 2014
rekoh I am !
Feb 11, 2014
dennis So here are the dimensions of the lettering:
Factory front caliper lettering: 9/32" x 3 3/4"
Factory rear caliper lettering: 7/32" x 3"
Decals from eBay seller: 14/32" x 3 7/8"
I think that the taller letters from the eBay seller actually look better for the front calipers, but they do not fit on the rears. So I emailed the seller requesting that he make them in 11/32" x 3 1/8". These will fit the rear calipers and are proportional to the lettering he sent that fits the fronts. I got a message from him today with the USPS tracking # for the smaller decals, so I expect to receive them in a few days. Great response by the eBay seller!
Feb 11, 2014
nkohlimd Dennis
did you use the same person I did as indicated in my earlier link. Did you have to buy another set of decals? Please let me know how the second set looks and I will then follow your lead. Thanks.
Feb 11, 2014
dennis I used the same person that you found (thanks!). They are sending me the second set for free. I let them know that any Model S owner that orders these decals will need the 2 different sizes for the front and rear.
According to the USPS tracking, the rear caliper decals should be delivered to me on Friday.
Feb 12, 2014
SteveW25561 How do people plan to protect the decals once applied so they don't peel off with time/wear/washes etc? I was reading on the G2 caliper paint website and they recommend against clear coats since they tend to yellow and deteriorate (and their paints are already high gloss).
Edit:
Actually, on further thought, instead of the decal, we can get a stencil made (ie instead of peeling away the unused vinyl, peel away the logo parts, making a negative) -- then apply the sticker and paint on the logo, removing the vinyl when dry. This would be much more durable than a sticker. I'm gonna write the ebayer and see if he can do this, instead (or basically ship the decals without bothering to remove the 'background', and leaving the transfer paper on.
Feb 12, 2014
dennis I'm going to investigate having paint protection film (clear bra) applied over the decals.
Feb 12, 2014
nkohlimd When I did my Porsche 2 years ago, I applied the decals sand then 2 coats of high temp clearcoat....still looking great. Thanks Dennis, will contact the ebay seller for the smaller versions
Feb 12, 2014
rogbmw Dennis - I would definitely NOT recommend putting the paint protection film over the decals. Brake calipers have the potential to get warm, and it would be a mess for a clear film not made for high temps to get hot/warm. I am the one who does the wheel T stickers and rear stickers. I just don't do the high temp stickers and am glad that someone can offer them. One other thing that people are doing with the wheel T stickers are when they are using the Rial wheel center caps, they paint them one color - say silver, then place the stickers on and use them as a template, then spray the cap another color to match the color of the wheel, then peel away the sticker leaving the painted T. If you are worried about color staying on the calipers you may want to try this, although I think most High temp stickers will be fine. Good Luck.
Feb 17, 2014
dennis Thanks for the heads up! I will leave the decals alone - I have a spare set in case they get messed up. Get the car back tomorrow from the wheel shop.
Feb 18, 2014
dennis Here is a pic of the painted front caliper with the decal from the eBay seller. I also received a revised set of decals from the seller today which are slightly smaller than the previous versions (which fit nonetheless). Looks like he sees an opportunity in serving the Tesla aftermarket!

Feb 19, 2014
SteveW25561 They look great. Did you paint the caliper yourself? If so, what paint did you use? Also, how do you plan to protect the decal from the elements and cleaning, etc?
Feb 19, 2014
nkohlimd Dennis
Looks great. Very nice....look forward to doing mine in the spring when I do my winter tire changeover. I will also be spraying the wheel wells with Second Skin Spectrum for noise reduction. When I did my porsche calipers, I used the G2 paint kit which come in various colors, applied the decals, and then sprayed with hi temp clear coat (glossy or matte available). Works really well and easy DIY project as long as you can jack the car and have all four tires off for about 6 hours. Cheers!
Feb 19, 2014
dennis I had them painted by California Wheels in Campbell, CA for $400. They were first recommended here on another thread by @Laurent. The decals are heat resistant, so I am just going to see how they hold up. I have a couple of sets of backup decals in case any get damaged by wear and tear. It helps that we don't have any snow/slush/salt in CA!

I just got my S85 2 weeks ago and really want to paint them red with the G2 system and use the hi temp stickers. To clear or not to clear over them???
May 21, 2014
dennis NO clear was recommended to me. After 10+ weeks and half a dozen trips to the car wash they still look perfect.

Aug 20, 2014
Rbats Resurrecting this thread as I want to paint my calipers using the G2 kit and high temp decals. Sounds like I have to have all wheels off the floor and removed to accomplish this. I have a jack that can lift one side up but don't have anything that can have the whole car off the floor. What have the DIY's here used to get the entire car off the ground? Any suggestions on equipment needed, where to buy and approx costs? Thanks much!
Aug 20, 2014
Burt Court Don't know what you can find there, but here I found a local company that are car guys. Jacked up two wheels at a time, used floor jacks, wrapped all 6 (six) calipers, and a re-torqued wheels to specs I gave them. Then wrapped four door pulls, front and back "T"s and the "T" in the center of the steering wheel. Prox 30 minutes per wheel, 10 minutes per door pull and T. Parts and labor $300.00. There is a picture of it somewhere on this site, its the pearl white S with polished stock 19" wheels. Have no idea if this is competitive price or not, don't care.

Btw, what were you trying to get done in the last pic? Cleaning rotors? Did you paint your calipers while you had that nice protection on?
Aug 21, 2014

Cleaning up the rotor hats and priming/painting. The rust is terrible on the rotor hats. If I have to do this every spring, I wouldn't feel overburdened.

I would like to do the same and Paint over a stencil. Durability is more important. however, where do you get fonts or better, what company will do the cutting with the proper letters.
thanks
Sep 2, 2014
SteveW25561 I have a computer controller cutter (Silhouette Cameo) and I'm about to try so e test cuts of the Tesla logo into painters tape and see how well that works. I'm still deciding the color of my calipers. G2 now makes a lime green that looks appealing to me on my Pearl White. Still debating though.
Sep 5, 2014
kevincwelch Steve-
Did you try the Cameo cutter yet? I'm interested in this myself, as I have the Emblem font that I've used for a couple of things in the garage and would probably just apply this way as well.
BTW: what do people think about orange calipers with the blue paint???

fred z OK...following this thread is cool, but I would like one straight answer.......where can I get the lettering and the T on calipers...at one time? much thanks

Unfortunately, it's 9 degrees outside. I'll be doing this in the spring.
BTW strengthcoach4, did you spray a clearcoat over the decals?

Herbie65 Hi guys.
Soon my model S will be delivered.
Mo will also paint my calipers. However I don't want stickers on them.
So I will make masking stickers in the same font and size as the original text and parking brake logo's.
They will be computer cut.
After painting, I will use them to spray paint the text and logo's.
Than a clear coat of heat resisting clear coat.
That should be it.
If there are more people interested, let me know, so I can order more masking stickers.
B rgds.

Dannoo Taking delivery of my new Model S early August. Plan to replicate red calipers with white lettering found on P90D. Ebay seller of vinyl letters wants me to provide dimensions of the letters.
