She has arrived!!!!! part 1

  • Sep 7, 2013
    leilanimunter
Introducing Phoenix, she is my dream car. We named her Phoenix because she flies and because she rose from the ashes of the electric cars that failed before her, and the ashes of the world we are damaging... and also, as my husband adds, because she is hot - like Phoenix, AZ ;)

Very pleased to have you a part of the Tesla community, but a bit confused about your post and signature.
How can you be a "carbon free girl" when you have a carbon fiber interior and spoiler?

I understand and respect your desire to avoid animal skins on the seats of your new car, but your reference to "vegan seats" creates an image of upholstery made from corn husks or sweet potatoes. Say it isn't so. :scared:

    Right on Lailani!
And you'll find it only gets better with time, as you grow to fully synch with with all of its nuances. That this new norm, puts the past to shame.

As others have already said here before, that ordinary ICEs will seem like farm tractors now. It's true. :)

I am anxious to hear what you will do with the driver's seat since you can make the car perform better than any of us. It is general knowledge that the seats don't keep you positioned when driving aggressively.

I made it, it's been sitting in my house waiting for Phoenix to arrive! I can't remember the name of the site but it was just one of the many customization websites where you can order whatever you like. I think I just googled "custom license plate frames" or something like that...
  • Sep 8, 2013
    StephenM
I actually was looking for something customized on-line before, and I wanted the "Made in America" printed on there, but the few stock samples was a little too cheap looking. Yours looks really clean. I'll have to revisit.

Funny story that I have to share... tonight after getting home from our first road trip, Craig and I were sitting on opposite ends of our living room couch watching one of our favorite shows, Dexter, and I couldn't help but check in on my Tesla iPhone app to check on Phoenix, who was in the garage charging. I update Craig on the status of her charge and he looks back at me, smiles, then tilts his iPad up to reveal that he too, was checking in on her. And so, on day two, it appears that the mutual psychosis has begun...

    - - - Updated - - -

I have been waiting to take this photo for a long time. We were leaving for our first road trip when I realized I had forgotten our camera. We needed to turn around and there we were, in front of the BP station. It seemed like a sign that it was time to take a photo that was a long, long time in the making. I must say, it felt fantastic! We powered up on solar instead :) Powering up on Solar in Asheville, NC

    Congrats!
I've had mine on reserve since september 3rd and I swear, i've aged 5 years in anticipation. I sense a second Tesla in your future. You'll be itching to claim it between the 2 of you. If I like mine as much as I think I will, then i'll buy the X when it comes out. I have an infiniti QX56 that'll collect dust once my P85 comes in. Looking to hear about the +! it might be my only regret, I ordered everything except + and cold weather package.
    Enjoy

Don't worry Leilani this is a very common disease for new Tesla Model S owners and is well known as:

New problem: I was on the road today and got a text from my husband saying "Um... the speed limit is 65" because he downloaded the Tesla app to his iPad he could see I was doing 85 on the freeway from his desk at work. So, I can foresee my future now: lots of text messages telling me to slow down. Damn.

Leilani: One of the things I have enjoyed the most about my Tesla is exactly what you pointed out - an opportunity to meet people I have never met before. I've joined several car groups here in Northern Virginia, and got to meet some terrific folks from all walks of life. And, thanks to Tesla, got to drive my car (along with 44 other Model S owners!) on Richmond International raceway, a NASCAR short track! never would have had nay of these opportunities were it not for Tesla and my good fortune to have been able to purchase the Model S!! TSLA Pilot
Actually, my understanding is that the initial year of Tesla Model S's had cow skin-wrapped steering wheels so anyone wanting a vegan Tesla had to take a little extra effort. That's what something Leilani (and many others) had to do--send an email/make a call and Tesla would replace the murdered cow parts for cruelty-free leatherette. (And, in my case, was THE reason I re-instated my MS order.)

There are some questions on the details but some believe that Tesla has switched to vegan steering wheels on all MS's for ethical, moral, and environmental reasons. Thus, all standard "textile" interior MS's are cruelty-free and vegan (maybe)!

This is great news for Tesla, the planet, and all the animals that aren't killed.

    • Good evening, officer.
    • Do you know how fast you were going?
    • Yes.
      <grunt><pause>
    • You were going 130.
    • I didn't realize EVs go that fast. That's amazing.
    • Well, you're right. I mean... that's irrelevant. Do you know what the speed limit is here?
    • Yes.
      <grunt><pause>
    • Are you aware of how much tread you have on your tires?
    • Yes.
      <grunt><pause>
    • It looks like your tires are worn out. How old are they?
    • Well, I'm not sure. But it's a new car that I got last week.
      <surprised look><pause>
    • Do you always ride around town in this outfit?
    • What an odd question. Do you ask this of all the people you stop? Are you even allowed to ask that?
      <grumble><tone change>
    • I was referring to the racing helmet.
    • Oh! No. But I just got this Tesla and I was told it's probably a good idea.
